SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]

Really I'd say its between DOA and VF5, Virtua fighter feels slower to me than SC4 but that could be partly my inexperience with the series to.

^^No
I played some good matches list night on LIVE. Someone was playing a very cheap Sieg though. I try not to pick apprentice online because the force lighting will keep them all the way on the other side. He reminds me of a refined Spawn in a way.
I also made a nice custom mitsugri

I went ahead and purchased the Greyed out characters. I think that's how you get them. Pretty lame if there was another way and no one's figured it out yet. I think I've unlocked every character now (I don't know how many characters are under the Star), and I don't have Yoda of course (PS3). Now I'm trying to figure out how many stages there are to unlock, and how to get more Style/Money for Character Creation.

It says in the game that the characters must be purchased in the CAS mode. The game actually tells you this when you try to play with them locked, so I'm assuming it's the only way.

There are five different characters under the star, not including multiple costumes.

Money (Gold) for Styles and CAS items is gotten through playthroughs of Story Mode, the Tower, and Arcade. Again, the game tells you when it's given you gold, so it should be obvious. Pretty hard to miss.

So Mitsurugi, Nightmare, Siegfried, and Kilik seem to be the favorites online. Also saw some great Shura and Scherazade players.

Now is the time to use non-popular characters for free wins against people who spam the same shit with popular characters

I wish the game had a kind of Shop for easy access to unlocking Costumes/Weapons/Equipment/Statistics. I feel that the Character Creator is great, but allowing to be the only way to get the stuff I mentioned before is kind of a hassle.

I know that I have to play Arcade/Story/Tower to get get Style/Money. But I don't get is why can't I track how far along these characters are in terms of style, what the maximum style is, etc. I assume there isn't a max style, but increasing a style doesn't do much after a while.

cassie 236B!

236B!

236B.....:B!

hm. i might go out and buy sc4. but i only have a 360. *sigh* i don't have a stick...

You should totally buy a PS3!

Man, few things piss me off more than lag in this game... it's so annoying to mess up a combo because the game stutters, and then take a few hits from a scrub. Because they don't deserve it. They didn't earn those hits.

The max style is 9.

You can see this in Create a Soul mode when the highest level skills require your style to be level 9 for that character.

So what is the deal with exclusive content in the LE?

Are these outfits for custom characters only or for regular fighters?

Also, the alien chick with the spikey rack is fun to play as.

i'm still waiting to see if i can borrow the anime expo ps3... =)

then have them foot the bill for the ps2-ps3 converter...

btw, your complaint about lag is why i never will play fighting games online. i did it twice for brawl and it was so frustrating and dumb that i won't do it anymore.

I notice the lag is worse playing ranked matches, but not unbearable.

In 4 player private matches with friends, I hardly (as in never) notice any lag.
Play GGPO ;)

I don't see a difference from this netcode and tekken... le sigh.
I haven't seen any lagmatches yet like I have in Tekken, so I'm taking that as a good sign... though yeah, it's still incredibly frustrating. I see where you're coming from when you say that you don't play much DR online, MM. But I'll still play a lot with friends online, most likely.

I haven't even tried going online yet. I really don't want to jump on line and play like every other button masher. Anyway, I think the character I'm going to start using is Cervantes/Shura. I seem to do pretty well using them. I just need to practice some more moves and GIs...

I just unlocked Ashlotte today. She has the cutest Match intro in the game.

This game is everything I expected it to be, nothing more or less. So basically it's pretty good.

Love playing as my CAS characters, even though they kinda suck with some of their moves. Also I'm not sure what leveling up does...I think I may have an idea, but not sure.... Can someone explain this to me? RPG fighter?!

Style levels let you equip better skills in the CAS mode.

yeah same for me the first few ranked matches I played were very laggy, last night it wasn't too bad, but all player matches with 4 four have been great.

So wait, when you have a custom character, and you don't equip any armor, they're always taking more damage that usual? Hrmm.... because that's what I've had and I've been doing fine.

Yep, unless you're playing online and playing regular matches instead of special.

I haven't played online yet, trying to get better first as I haven't played Soul Calibur 1/2 in awhile, but I think it's a pretty good game so far. Made a few created characters so far, including one to look like Mai from My-Hime. Might try and make Mikoto next, though not sure if I'll be able to find the same hair style for her.

My PSN connection seems to drop every once in awhile, so I'll need to try and see what I can do about that before playing a lot online.
Wait wait wait. Mitsurugi? You beat him with Mitsurugi? How is this possible?

Also, I was using Form 1 of Vader. I guess the 2nd one might be more powerful? I tried him out, and he seemed a bit stronger.
Well, as you know Mitsurugi's got some nice "sword throws" (for lack of a better term) that allow you to 3 and 4 combo someone right after you use your blade to toss them in the air. All you had to do to beat the Apprentice was start fast with those and keep him off balance (so he couldn't toss you in the air too often) and you were home free with some low sweeps and kicks after you gave him a ride on the sword. :) Not to mention quite a few of the sword hits from Mitsurugi stun the opponent (or at least can)... It doesn't hurt that I have used Mitsurugi since SC1 on the DC. :) He's always been my favorite... Ivy was always my 2nd favorite (mainly for the long reach her sword has.) After SC3 came out, I got into trying some of the larger, slower characters... so I got fat and lazy with huge axe shots. But I'm back in the groove now. ;)

I gave up trying with Vader, because I inadvertently thought he had automatic grab evasion (or something like that)... but I kept getting slung up.... and Mitsurugi's quicker on the blade than Vader. Though Vader's got some serious combination blows.

But, as I've gotten better with Vader, I think I can use him to take out the Apprentice again if need be. :) (I'm having too much fun making my own characters... heh.)

I see a huge difference, but that could just be because I'm matching up with people closer to me (doesn't everyone who plays Tekken online live in CA or something? )
so vader and yoda will be dlc for each platform? Can you make a custom character using lightsabre and force powers?
yes eventually, no to the second question, and you can't edit yoda or the apprentice either.
big ol WTF @ Amy's ending...

Wish I had more time to play this now, but def. will be practicing up this weekend.
Yeah, that one was just... stupid. Amy sucks as a character too, or at least I thought so.

yeah, I just got the Amy ending...puzzled to say the least. I haven't tried out Mitsurugi yet, but I know he's got some nice, cheap stuff if the Computer is anything.

Also, DLC is supposedly up for SC4 on PS3...in Japan. Individual items including the first Customization pack, Individual Music pieces and other stuff. The Customization pack is 150 yen. Don't know what it is though.

It would be nice to have some DLC that gives you vader/yoda, the ability to use lightsabers/force, and some star wars style clothing. I think that would be worth a price since we might have to buy vader/yoda anyway.

I want this.

Haven't seen mashing this bad in an online fighting game ever. people aren't even side stepping or anything...just using the same shit over and over. I don't know how many Yodas and Apprentices I've destroyed in the silliest ways possible (side step attacks are their kryptonite, or whatever the fuck jedis are allergic to.)

Haha, I've been doing the same here. I didnt realize I forgot to put a shirt on my character, so I've been fighting for a good time without one. But once I maxed out the level, I realized I was missing out on a big bit of skill pts.

Hey chac, you were right... I played my first few matches of ranked online games... wow. is it me or do people online not know that you can do more things than press A or B twice over and over?

I don't think I'll ever unlock everything in the Tower of Lost Souls. Some of the requirements are things like defeat every enemy using a critical finishers...

I think there is a way to stand up quickly and also guarding low while your trying to get up is a decent idea. A lot of people especially the computer like to attack low while your down and getting up. Another thing is to look for an overhead attack as well its going to be one of those two strikes if your in the down position trying to get up.

I've always been a little afraid of going online in this game since I've only played SC1. But from the sounds of it, I probably won't get my ass kicked. ;)
Can anyone give me any tips on how to not get beaten mercilessly while I'm trying to get up?
Blocking is a good idea. You might also want to go into practice mode to see what you can do as you get up. Like a df + B that hits high, b + A + B that moves you backwards while attacking, etc. Going for the usual crouch + K, A or B might get you in more trouble.

yeah if you get on now and actually practice a bit before doing so, you'll actually be better than most online.

Not with lag...lol

Tried playing against Kilik with Talim and every time I pressed A, it'd take like 3-4 seconds for the move to come out...while my foe just wails on me. This was on a four bar connection...pfft
