SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]

Question for people with the game:

How difficult is it to 'share' created characters? can you save them to an external device or are they stuck in your main save file?

I'm wondering that as well, although I think the million dollar question is still what the bonus DLC is in the limited edition. I must know!
You can share characters?

Didn't know.

I know you can't copy save files ;(
For the PS3, can't you always copy save files?

That Altair is sweet, someone better post build specs on him. That will be my CAS character. AC had its problems, but Altair was sweet as a character.
For the PS3, can't you always copy save files?
Nope. Some games have their files locked onto the PS3 they were created on.

Yeah, I hope spec sheets will be doable (similar to III's), but with the vastly expanded customization, I'm afraid it will be more trouble than it's worth.

I finally sat down and played some vs mode last night against some friends...

Me (Cervantes, Yoshimitsu), each of my friends were using Hilde and Siegfried.

I'm now convinced too... Vader sucks. He's way too slow and the worst part is he doesn't have a quick enough 8WR move to help him get around. ;(

Not yet. Although the PS3's online system is now up, and it's surprisingly good from what I hear. Although tomorrow...
Ergh, I want Soul Calibur IV. But I dunno if I can justify $60 on it.

I think $60 is way to much for a fighting game.
I want it really bad,but I don't want to pay 60 for it either.

Fighting games offer some of the most replay of any games, their character models are generally the most detailed and refined of any genre, gameplay model wise, and this game comes with a robust create-a-character, and of course online play. The only other game genre more worth it has to be RPGs!

I guess it just depends on how big a fan of Fighters you are. I can't play FPS games for too long before they're boring to me, but Fighters I'll play for years.

The Interview on 1up with the creator mentions that the game will have original music from past games available on release day... (as DLC I'd wager) I'd love it if the music was the Khan remix music from Soul Edge ^_^

I'm in the same boat. Soul Caliber is my favorite fighting game besides the MvC series. GS is having a 20% Trade in bonus towards SCIV (30% with edge) so I might get rid of MLB2K8 since I just won it in a contest to recoup some of the costs.

For the amount of gameplay and depth/learning you can get from a fighting game. I'd say $60 is a DEAL.

You get what you make of it. It's up to you to take the experience to the next level ;)

You're definitely right about that. I know I'll really enjoy it and the character creation looks bad ass, that's why I'm so tempted. I've never been really competitive in fighting games, but I'm a solid player regardless.

i dunno man

we're spoiled in socal, we have competition. like, top top top competition.

but when you live where there's no competition, fighting games are boring

it's like one dude owning a football and having no one to play with =)

I've been holding onto my $100 Walmart Gift Card that I got when I bought the MGS4 PS3 Bundle just for this occasion. I am picking up a copy of SC4 and a 2nd Dualshock on the way home from work tomorrow.

Well to those people, I have this to say.

Get out of that hell hole. =)

I really don't get where this concept comes from. It's a genuinely closeminded and belittling approach. The fighting game is no less worth the money on launch day than any other genre.

It reminds me of the guy in the fighting game thread who was insinuating that no one would buy more than one fighting game because one fighter is enough for a year.

To me, there's a couple million yahoos that buy MAdden every year, so it's like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me :)

If they try to nickle and dime me by charging for Vader, when they show both Yoda and Vader in the logo, then I'm passing up this game as a matter of principle, I don't care how good it is, charging for a character that should be in the game to begin with is absolutely inexcusable.

Vader and Yoda aren't in the logo... They're on the cover art of their respective boxes, but Yoda is not at all on the PS3 box and Vader is not at all on the 360 box.
Vader and Yoda aren't in the logo...
I don't care what you call it. Let's not argue over semantics.

The point is, I'm not buying this game until all the characters they market the game with are playable in the game, and included in the cost of the game.

People bending over and spreading their ass cheeks to let huge companies sodomize them with bullshit nickle-and-diming schemes again ???

TOMORROW!
I'm excited.
I'm really tempted to get it on both consoles, which is sad.
However, I'll get it for 360 when the price is cheap for achievements.
For now, PS3 is all I need.

Mine broke a week or so ago, so sucks for me too.

I am still not decided if the LE version is worth the extra $10.

Does anyone know what the special customization bonuses are for the LE version?

Also does the LE version come with a regular disc case or one of those lame ass cardboard covers.

Hopefully one of you lucky people that got the game early can help me out!
That sucks guys. I hope its not true sleepy!
You could always go buy a PS3... :D
! You take that back!

Both characters were never marketted for one version of the game.

Vader was marketted for the PS3 version. The PS3 version has Vader. No problem.

Yoda was marketted for the 360 version. The 360 version has Yoda. No problem.

If you want the BONUS of having both characters, then you have the CHOICE of buying it.

I mean, are you going to now cry at Pokemon for having exclusive Pokemon in Diamond and Pearl?

Ok... well, I love Little Big Planet and I don't think that's worth $60 either.

Games in general are overpriced. But, like movies/tv series I don't think they ALL have to be similar in price JUST because they are new.

They should have just had Vader and Yoda in each version. And had Kraytos/Nariko in the PS3 version and Ryu in the 360 version (for example).
They should have just had Vader and Yoda in each version.
They should just have all 150 Pokemon in both Red and Blue.

Bullshit. Since the first trailer, they've had BOTH Yoda and Vader present. Now they even have footage of the two fighting. You don't market "versions" of games. You market THE GAME. Sure, there's some exclusive content here and there, 360 will get exclusive chapters for GTA IV, for example, but that's not THE GAME, that's EXTRA DLC, that's not something that was IN THE TRAILERS, IN THE PREVIEWS, IN THE PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS, as something that is IN THE GAME.

Even games like RockBand with DLC completed before the game ever came out, at least have the decency to not play the DLC songs in the trailers before the game comes out. This is just one notch higher on the bullshit ripoff scale.

Pokemon are little things you collect. And you trade Pokemon between editions. And they don't charge you money for it. I'm NOT complaining about having Vader and Yoda downloadable, I'm saying IF they intend on charging me for it, I'm not buying the game at all. And what they market the game as, should be included in the game, WITHOUT EXTRA CHARGE.

I mean, we are cheapassgamers after all. Games are expensive when released and it makes sense to want to wait for a title to go down in price if you aren't an ardent fan of the genre.

However, that doesn't mean that an entire genre should be valued less than any other. That's what bothers me about people saying that. You didn't say that you thought 60 bucks was way too much for Soul Calibur 4. You said that $60 was way too much for a fighting game.

I think sports games are crap. That doesn't mean they shouldn't come out at $60 like every other game. I think the most Marvel games today are crap. But they come out at regular price like everything else. I'm sure someone out there loves the Fantastic Four game... maybe... possibly...

... okay, maybe not.

And that's why you're not in marketting.

In other news, CAD (ugh...) has a new SCIV based comic up:

sorry but they have clearly marketed each version's specfic supposed "exclusive" character..

that being said i rather have the option of "buying" vader/yoda then not having one at all

Bingo. Plus, PS3 owners will be able to split the cost 5 ways, so It's certainly NOT a big deal.
