A Scanner Darkly. I give it a 3 out of 5 for someone unfamiliar with the original work, and a strong 4 if they are. Very fun to watch even if it's not to pay any attention to the story, as the visual style is awesome.
I just got through watching The Departed. Realy...Good...Movie... I'd give it a 9/10..
I've only seen bits of it in passing, I'm confused about it. Is it action, drama, both?

It's both, mostly drama I would say, but it's not slow moving. You should really take the time to sit down and watch it (DVD comes out next week I believe). Amazing movie.

High Tension

I'm not squemish, and it takes a lot to scare me, but holy shit was that intense. Though the twist was a bit easy to get, but still, fucking hell.

The intesity of the movie and tension, for lack of a better word at the moment, are awesome, but the rest of the flick fails. That twist was awful. It took the whole movie from underneath itself. I was really enjoying it, but then that twist justs opens the flood gate of plot holes.

Thanks for reminding me, grabbing the 2-discer for sure next week.

Warning, spoilers for multiple movies in here:
You can figure that much like the Machinist and Fight Club, the protaginist is having hallucinations that attribute to these alternate lives. Since the story is being told solely by Marie, we see her warped perspective, sort of like Jack "watching" Tyler Durden. That covered a lot of the plot holes, and while not an original plot device, I thought it was done fairly well.

Not really, because where did the truck come from then? And how about the chainsaw? The gas station scene, the head at the beginning and the newspapers claiming that multiple women in the area had been killed, etc. There's mounds of threads over at IMDB that discuss this very issue and most can agree that there are some major plot holes that no matter how you try to reason them, it just can't be done.

High Tension is good. I try to look past the plot holes and just enjoy because of the intensity. I hope you watched it in French, and not the god awful English dub.

Last movie for me was:

The Illusionist

It was alright. Not OMFG like some people would have you believe. Ending is very easy to guess.

I watched the Illusionist and the Prestige back-to-back. Really can't say which one I enjoyed more. They both had their strong suits. I think I'll go with Prestige though because it was more complex story-wise.

Just saw The Prestige (8/10). A lot of good movies have been hitting DVD for the past few weeks. There's been: The Departed, The Illusionist, Crank, Saw III, Open Season, and Hollywoodland are all good movies (depending on your taste). Not that many "suck" movies to speak of.

The Departed. me and my wife watched this last night. One of the best movies we have seen in a while.

I liked it so much, I decided today,to go to best buy and buy The Departed BB exclusive steel book 2 disk set, as a early birthday gift for myself.

I can't wait for The Prestige! I wanted to see these two movies in the theater but, never did.

Man! I felt the same way. The movie was awesome, until the twist...

I watched about half of the Departed. I couldn't get into it. Probably something to do with that whole sub-genre. I never liked Scarface, Godfather, Goodfellas, any of that kinda stuff. Just so not my thing for some reason.

At the moment though, I'm currently in the middle of the Alien franchise. I don't know how I've managed to go this long without seeing them.

saw Norbit last night in the theater ... date and I had tickets for Breach but didn't get to the movie theater in time, so it was either Norbit or the asstacular crapfest that is Ghost Rider.

Kingdom of Heaven (theatrical version).

To anyone who owns or has seen the 4 disc Director's Cut, is it worth a re-buy? I love this film, but I keep going back and forth on whether I want to buy the 4 disc version. (It will become more tempting after a price cut or at the next DDD sale.)
