Thought on some hours worth of WWE 2K17 (PC) from last night.
It's on Humble Bundle for Free Trial - so I figured: "Why the heck not?"
It's got a few more interesting things to it - you can now cut entire promo's (before and/or after matches); you now have separate in-ring and out-of-ring signatures + finishers (so if you have a submission and can't make it submit out-of-ring in a match; or you move that can't be done out-the-ring b/c you need ropes to springboard, set-up, or whatever - so now you can have different variation of a move or just flat-out an entire different move in its place; instead of getting stuck w/ nothing or something generic to sit in its place like WWE2K15 or 16 did); and a newer roster (AJ Styles is here!); even more wrestling moves; much more depth in Create-A-Wrestler/Create-A-Diva; Create Arenas; Create Video Packages for your Entrance; etc etc.
You can have in-the-locker attacks, backstage brawls, and other cool things happen also - making this feel more like a WWE Event. You can still run-in and be run-in on, like 2K16.
It does a much better job with animations (less clunkiness + weirdness happens here, compared to previous WWE 2K15+16) and getting the FEEL of a WWE Show. Combat's look and feel is a big smoother and more fluid in 2K17 over 2K16, just like how 2K16 improved over 2K15.
Cutting promos can be good b/c 2K15+16 had an issue where getting lost in a Rivalry, you'll get stuck wrestling the same person over + over + over + over again all in a row in often the same type of much. At least in 2K17, you can cut a promo (before or after each match - you can do one per event) - so you can call pretty much anyone out, and if they decide to come out, challenge you, or maybe Authority changes things and books a match - it could be interesting. You can do promo's aimed at the crowd or other wrestlers, if you so desire.
2K15+16 in MyCareer had issues w/ booking you too much in Singles 1-on-1 Matches w/ MyCareer - where-as in 2K17, last night, The Man With Three H's (Triple H) + Steph booked me into a Ladder match w/ AJ Styles, after I called AJ out + we (me and AJ) had a back + forth promo going. Promo's aren't voice-acted (unlike 2K16), but there's tons of dialogue options + text to pick from - so, that part's cool. And different states + crowds might have different styles - i.e. one crowd might favor heel promo's, another might like face promo's - so there's that, too. You can even do promo's dedicated to trying to do a face turn or heel turn - if you so want to, as well.
Runs quite well here on my aging i7, GTX 970, 16 GB RAM, and W7 64-bit also. Not really having any issues at 4K here at High settings, which is similar to how WWE 2K16 ran.
I like it A LOT - big improvement in MyCareer Mode here. But, I still will wait for a discount, especially since I'm a big-time wrestling fan & likely will buy it every damn year it actually hits the PC.
Still playing WWE 2K16 here + I really want Season Pass for 2K17 b/c this honestly is the type of games that lives (and dies) with having more wrestlers, modes, moves, etc; and I think there's really good stuff set there for the Season Pass.
