I️ like the despicable me movies but that artwork is bland af.

If there wasn’t a John wick chapter 3 coming out I’d bite on that release, dog the artwork.
If you are concerned about paying for 4K discs just sell them individually to offset your total cost. Someone on the forums here or over at Blu-ray is always looking to buy them.
 
So many dumb Popart and other steelbooks in the later part of this year.   This thread has slowed down massively.  It has been really nice actually;  I haven't felt the need to buy very many steels lately.

Honestly I think we're in a large lull of BD movie buying for most people.   I have noticed the slowdown in traffic at my BB stores and from talking to employees.  The regulars haven't been coming in to buy and media revenue is down overall.  Personally, I think its because things cost too much and 4K UHD needs to get cheaper.  The big publishers need to start doing a better job. 

That said, my BB store just put up a new steelbook panel today.  It's located right before the television series section.  A bunch of old steels came back for $9.99-$14.99.   I only bought Gods of Egypt today since I had nearly everything else.  Bad movie but the art is very nice.

Yes, it's just a novelty VHS cassette shaped case, but figured I'd note it here. I think the Target exclusive Cars 3 with the booklet will also be $10...not sure on any other black Friday 4K/blu/DVDs that would be of note or interest or a great deal, whether at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, or amazon.

I love that Gods of Egypt steelbook design and the movie is kind of dumb fun. $14.99 for it is a no brainer especially when you consider it includes a 3D disc as well.

Can't decide if I should pass on these or just get the $4 BvS ulitimate which is the one I haven't seen in ultimate format.  Yes, I know most people were critical of the movie but stepping back and not comparing to the DK Miller series, it was not as bad as everyone made it out to be (other than ZuckerLuthor, that was horribly done).  So I'm curious to watch the extended/ultimate editiona nd for $4, what the heck.

Edit:  Oh, looks like the JL: New Frontier steel is on sale for $15 if anyone missed it or to get a price adjustment.

Those comic style DC steels came out a couple weeks ago. Don’t think they got mentioned here because they’re fugly. I️ think most of us rely on the Bluray.com forums for our steelbook news.

Speaking of there are pics of the Ragnarok steel and it’s awesome looking. Also pics of the Kingsmen steelbooks which are more comic style garbage. I️ got last years Kingsmen steel from Best Buy and probably would’ve picked up golden circle had it matched that release but am gonna have to pass now, also due to golden circle not being particularly good.

Literally every Best Buy steelbook going back to Thor: The Dark World has had 3D in it, so 3D being in their steelbooks has been the rule and not the exception. Only Doctor Strange and GOTG Vol.2 have had steelbook options without 3D, but they DID have one with. This is the first to not offer it at all, unless they add another listing down the line or this one gets changed.

I was talking about movies in general, not just MCU movies. Is it the distributor that determines what discs do in a bundle or the retailer?

Also, Best Buy messed up my order. I canceled Atomic Blonde and Valerian, and they sent me both. Atomic Blonde arrived with no email notice at all, and so far no charges on my credit card either.

Ahh thanks for the tip, had no idea these were being sold in stores too and amazon doesn’t have the Vol II steel online. I checked and the Best Buy’s by me do have it for $7.99

Yea, I saw them under steelbooks for the holidays. It has other ones like the Deadpool reprint with a Christmas themed j-card (Deadpool wearing a santa hat). Alien Covenant was part of it, and I can't remember what else. It's like 20ish steelbooks, all for $7.99 (or was it $9.99 when I saw it...)

The Split and the Get Out steelbooks are fugly,  so it was an easy decision to go with the cheap pre-Black Friday versions instead.  Whiplash looks nice.  I definitely want the John Wick 4K combo even though I already have the normal steels.  Fantastic Beasts is a definite buy. 

It was nice that all of these steels were revealed prior to BF so we could make our buying decisions.

Wow, its pretty crazy that all of those are coming out 12/5 at Best Buy! The good thing for me is I won't be getting many, if any of them. I already have the standard release for many of these and am starting to get hesitant about double dipping unless the price is really good. I may pick up the Fantastic Beasts 4K rerelease as I passed on it the first time and kind of regretted it since I loved the design. $10 cheaper this time definitely makes it more palatable.

 
 
It's nice they're releasing them, but it'd also be a double/triple dip for most things I'd buy on there. And it's kinda frustrating that they keep re-releasing the same ones for cheaper. Makes me only want to wait for when they're on sale for less than $10.

I don't see it in the description, but I wonder if despicable me 1 and 2 steel book have digital codes like 3 will? Well I hope it will at least
 
Ordered the Split and Jumanji steels for store pick up. Reports over at blu ray seem to be that they may have limited quantity (Get Out too) in store but they are available for shipping online.
Also right now there is a promo for store pick up orders, qualifying orders of $10 or more between now and the 16th will get you $10 reward in mid January. You can make three different transactions to get three $10 reward certificates.

At my store today I picked up John Wick 1&2 in 4K, Despicable me 1 & 2 (one of the only steels with just 3 copies each), Fantastic Beasts 4K (had 2 copies), and the Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars. 

Everything else had very high availability. Men in Black, Jumanji, Whiplash, Underworld, Alien Collection, and Resident Evil, American Assassin all had around 8-12 copies on the shelves.  Didn't see or pay any attention to Split or Get Out, but the art is really weak on those two.  Logan had just one copy. 

Hopefully that helps someone prioritize their buying.  It was an enormous release day today. 

 
I enjoyed it but it was a little too self indulgent. Should’ve been edited down 20-30 minutes alone on those long lingering or wandering shots where nothing interesting happens for minutes at a time
