Stootsi.com has a section known as the "Salvage Mall", in which items are sold as-is, without refunds.
The Disclaimer, as written by Stootsi.com is written as follows:

 • All products sold on salvage.stootsi.com have issues. We will do our best to present these issues to you.
 • All salvage products are sold as-is, with no warranties expressed or implied, unless otherwise stated on the item page.
 • Nearly all of these items are former customer returns, untested, unfixed, or just not working in some regard.
 • Cosmetic conditions will vary tremendously, but will be clearly advertised.
Basically, you're taking a gamble for buying items that may or may not work for ridiculously low prices. Each item has a short description of the condition, so make sure you read the descriptions! So buyer beware, if you're not feeling risky.

I have bought a wired XBOX360 controller from this before under "good" condition, and it has worked perfectly. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Items Include (updated):
XBOX360 white wireless controller (limit 1) - $9.99
Wii Remote - $14.99
XBOX 360 MC2 Racing Wheel - $9.99
Datel Maxdrive 160GB HD PS3 - $34.99
PS3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller (limit 1) - $2.29
Nyko Wii Remote Charge Station - $2.99
XBOX360 Wireless Headset Halo Edition - $4.99

New items are constantly being added and removed, so check back often.

Shipping is $6.00 flat, and everything's tax free except for PA residents.
Decided to roll the dice on the two $10 adapters. If one works, it's still a steal at $26 shipped, and I'll try to dump the other off on someone for $5 or so. If both don't work at all, well, I'm douche.
I bought one. Maybe if they all don't work, we can combine them into a working one.:)

LOL..maybe. We should have enough parts to at least get something going. :applause:

Should be interesting to hear what kind of results people will have. I like the idea of setting up a "junk swap" for these things: just find two devices with different problems and do a little tinkering to turn it into a functional product! Or just send it in to the manufacturer for repairs...but that's not as adventurous.

Earlier today they had a Metallic Rose DS for $24.99 that "didn't read discs" (err, shouldn't that have been cards?). I was tempted to give it a try just to see if it still worked for GBA and gameshare, and if worst comes to worst use the battery and parts if I needed to for my current DS, but it sold out while I was debating. Afterwords I started wondering if they were just returns from people that couldn't get them to read UMDs :p

salvage.stootsi.com seems like a more enjoyable version of their mystery box. Instead of getting an item that works but possibly isn't what you want, you get something that you want but possibly doesn't work.

At Stootsi.com right now the item on the main page is a random PC game for 1 penny and shipping for 1 penny... So two cents after shipping. I'm sure the games all suck, but for two cents I bought one anyways.

edit: nevermind gone

Yeah, I like this idea from Stootsi, and it's a lot better than buying salvage on eBay, where morons bid upon "as-is" crap all the time. I remember months back when I was interested in cracking open a broken 360 and seeing what I could do with it. All of the systems on eBay were going for $100. Screw that. I mean, for a few bucks, I'll roll the dice on a bunch of this stuff. That DS for $25 sounded like a great deal. I would have bit on that, as well.

Personally interested in repainting a 360 controller, so I'll keep an eye on stootsi salvage. I just need a cheap replacement shell.

I actually bit on the 30gb Ipod with the broken screen. It says that it's in perfect working order except for the screen. I used to replace broken screens on the old fat DS consoles and sell them like new on ebay back in the day. Hopefully this won't be too much harder to fix.

i thik ipods, because of their construction, are somewhat more difficult to repair in comparison to a ds, that actually uses screws to hold the unit together...

good luck, though. keep us updated on how it goes.

They have a 12mp digital camera up for $15. It says it is untested and has a chipped screen. For like $21, if it worked, it would nice to have to take on trips to amusement parks and such. If you lose it, who cares?

If the combo BD/HD-DVD drive was a bit cheaper, I might be interested. As it is, you can get the same model from Newegg for $150+, and you'd obviously have more protection. For like $100, though, I might have been tempted.

I got my stuff today and I am pretty disappointed. Everything is broken (expected), but half of it is not in "good" condition. My controllers were physically broken, with pieces of the controller rattling inside and the thumb sticks broken... The bluetooth headset's ear piece is broken, so it is completely useless also. I do realize everything was going to not work, but even for parts (controller shells, etc.) this was a complete waste of money.

*sigh*

That's too bad. Were the items actually described as physically broken? It's kind of misleading to say something can be used for parts or repair when it's completely trashed.

I'm sorry to hear that Brett. It seems like Stootsi's out to make a buck. They need to not have misleading adjectives for the physical condition of the merchandise. They know exactly what kind of crowd would be happy to receive broken items, but they have to lie to even them.

i'd write to them and complain... i mean, clearly you were not expecting them to work perfectly (or even at all, as it seems), but they have been listed as being in "good" condition, and physically broken to the point of being unusable even as parts is very deceptive.

Indeed. I think we all went into this knowing what we were buying...or at least, we thought so. I'll wait and see what condition the adapters come in. Still waiting for shipping confirmation from them.
Smashed into several pieces with a mallet?
I hope so. Then, I can be a cool kid and make a video of me running them over with my car. Awesome.

I am just upset because they stated the item would be described in the best detail possible. Clearly they label "good" cosmetic condition as having the thumb stick pad removed and being cracked halfway, along with the L2 button having the plastic removed. The 360 controller didn't have anything wrong in their listing, even though the plastic case it came in has a noted stateing the right thumb stick doesn't click. I really am not greatly upset, although I did completely waste $23 on crap. I might be able to "salvage" the 360 controller case, but that wasn't really worth it.

Edit: Many of my items are quite dirty too.

Damn, I wanted the 360 wireless controller. I guess I'll check back later and see if I can't snag one! Thanks OP!

Very disappointing. I'll update tomorrow night when I get my "good" sixaxis and 2 "good" 360 wireless network adapters, but it isn't sounding good. Not so worried about the controller, since it was less than $8 shipped, but the wireless adapters came to about $26 shipped, so I'd hate to have thrown that away. On the other hand, the wireless adapters have fewer moving parts, so hopefully it won't be too bad -- unless bigdaddybruce44 has already run over them with his car.

Well, between, you, me, and bigdaddy, it sounds like we'll have 5 adaptors, so we should be able to at least get two or three working, right?
haven't you guys learned that stootsi is a piece of crap?
Besides the nonsense with mystery boxes and the random PC games, Stootsi is generally fine to deal with. And those problems mostly stemmed from their complete inability to handle a massive volume of sales, and their decision to make most of the boxes exactly the same.

update

360 controller is in good physical shape and lights up, im at my moms so i cant test it

halo 3 headset in good shape but completely dead, wont even light up

Hrman Kardon ipod adapter looks brand new and actually works

so out of 3 items i guess i got 1 and 1/2 working because i dont know if the controller works 100%
did it come with the charger?
yes it did actually, and the extra ear loop thingy and the manual, i called microsoft, they need my 360 serial number for some reason then they will let me know what they can do with the headset

I ordered one of the 30g ipods with the Sad Face which hopefully will work by either reformatting or most likely reseating the hard drive.

If all else fails eBay should cover the cost :)

$10 for an xbox 360 wireless adapter? I am very tempted to buy one... there is also an xbox 360 wireless halo controller for $5.49 if anyone is interested.

ok, my stuff came today... for those following along, this is what i ordered:

1 Nyco Wii Charging Station
1 Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Headset
1 Psyclone HD Source Selector

alright... got home unpacked the box (which was pretty big... got my $6 shippings worth!). the boxes for the charging station and wireless headset were both open box returns... the 360 headset said "does not charge" on the packaging, bad sign. the source selector, looked to be pretty much brand new, with the remote control still in plastic wrap and the little plastic pull tab still in the battery compartment... this is going to pay off after all, i thought!

so i plugged in the system selector and... nothing. would not turn on. i tried plugging it into different outlets and the same result. i did notice that occasionally a red light on the front would turn on right when i plugged in the ac adapter, but then would quickly go out.

i then went to the charging station, and it didn't work at all. i plugged it in, and the lights on the front didn't come on to indicate if the batteries were charging at all.

i tried the headset last... and the box was correct: it did not want to take a charge. neither from the usb charging cable it came with, nor with the ac charger i had from my other wireless 360 headset.

at this point, i was kind of annoyed, and i really wanted to figure out what was wrong with the source selector. because it was lighting up red when i first plugged in the ac adapter, i figured it was a problem with the power... but i wasn't sure if it was just the ac adapter itself or the source selector. since i didn't have another ac adapter of the same current as the one that came with the source selector, i decided to crack open the source selector and look around inside it. i found that the power connected to the motherboard via a daughter board which was being stabilized by a nut and bolt assembly... however, the paper/plastic washers that were holding the nuts firm to the board were broken. i unscrewed one of the nuts that was touching the board, plugged back in the ac power, and it turned on right away.

so, out of the 3, the system selector works... and as i stated in my first post, i'd be happy if only that one worked out for me. as it is now, i'm out like $5 from the charging station and wireless headset, but i will probably mess around with the charging station to see if i can figure out what exactly is wrong with that. i am also now an owner of a 360 wireless headset usb charger, so that is useful as well...

hopefully the other person who got the dead headset hears from microsoft and they will give us replacements.
Well, my two adapters are due tomorrow. I guess we shall see how badly damaged they are.
I ordered a Sixaxis on the 16th, and 2 360 wireless network adapters on the 17th. When I got a shipping notice on the 17th, I assumed it was for the sixaxis, then I saw the order number matched up with the network adapters, so I assumed they combined the shipment. Tonight I received the network adapters, but they apparently haven't sent the Sixaxis yet.

One of the adapters was repackaged in the original plastic, with insert and manual, the other was by itself in a bubblewrap envelope (both together inside a cardboard box). They are both clean, and in very good physical condition, both flash red a few times when plugged in, followed by a steady red, which is supposed to indicate, according to the manual, that it is ready to be connected to a wireless network, but when I try to connect, I am told that the network is disconnected. I haven't had a chance to contact MS yet to see if they can help me, but, as far as the adapters are concerned, I got exactly what I ordered, which is actually better than I was expecting (at least I know they are getting power).

I hope yours are the same or better.

Thanks for the update, guessed! That's very good news. As long as they aren't smashed to shit or something, I'll be pleased. Can't beat taking a risk like this at $26 shipped for the two. If neither of them works, and I can't get them fixed, I'll just throw them up on eBay as "as-in" auctions and probably get my money back or lose a few bucks. No problem there.

update: just called microsoft regarding the 360 wireless headset... i'm sending it to their repair center in texas, and they are going to either repair it or send me a new one for free.

huzzah!

Nice. I will certainly try MS if one of these adapters is in good shape.

called 800-4-MY-XBOX

selected the "Accessories" category (thought about selecting repairs, but didn't)

when it asked for which accessory, i believe i said "Other" because wireless headset was not listed

they had me try different things, like plugging it in and holding down the power button for a long time, but nothing happened. they also asked me if it was getting abnormally hot or cold (?) while being plugged in and i said no.

then they asked me how long ago i bought it and i told them that i had bought it five days ago online, and that it had arrived today and i'd been having problems with it since (they never asked where i bought it.)

after a while (i think the guy was new... he seemed somewhat frazzled and slow) they asked me for my address, phone number, and email address... and then they asked me for my xbox serial number, which i found strange, but whatever.

then they gave me the address and reference number and told me that when they receive my defective unit they will ship me out a replacement unit... not sure if it will be the same unit repaired, a refurb, or a new item.

unfortunately, you have to foot the bill of sending the item to them... they suggest paying for tracking so you know when the item gets there.

I have done this twice already with broken controllers I have got from different places, they are always cool on the customer service end. I just send them in and like a week later I got a brand new one in the mail.

they are telling me that i need the receipt, ill ship out with out the receipt and see what happens, worst thing that can happen is ill get the same thing back. I got the reference number and everything.

I hope the iPod I ordered from them really only has the Sadface issue...since that's apparently just 9 times out of 10 a loose connection between hard drive and motherboard.
