Street Fighter IV - Gen Discussion & Info
So what's the general consensus people? I want to pick this up, but only if I can manage to get it for < $40.
Good luck with that, I guess we'll see you around Christmas then because unless Target or BB sell it for $40 for a one week sale good luck finding it at that price. Maybe on EBay in 3-4 months or with a Gamestop coupon w/Edge on a used copy.

To the poster about the soundtrack, yeah it's nowhere in the packaging/manuals. Going to ask on capcom-unity when I get off work.
Now that I have Street Fighter IV and the regular fightstick, why is the headphone jack made in a way where you can't use the standard 360 headset? I want to hear people talk dirty to me while I lose again!
If you look in your box there's a little cable that you can connect to it so all 360 headsets work.

Got it this morning and was trying to unlock all the characters before I had to go to work. I heard some people have problems with Gouken. Just to confirm so I don't waste time with false methods:

- Beat the game with Akuma
- Play again with someone you already beat it with
- Get 2 Perfects & 3 Ultra Finishes
- After Seth you fight Gouken & you must beat him

I figure I'll use Ryu and spam fireballs for the perfects. His Ultra is easy to connect with. So that shouldn't be a problem. ANyone see anything I'm doing wrong?

Well I suck at this game, like bad. I'm going to blame my new stick and keep crying that I can't get past the second round of arcade on anything but Very Easy.
i usually suck balls with sticks
Oh yeah? like 2 balls and a stick?:whistle2:#

Back on topic - The character unlocking can be done on "easy" mode, and should be available for all other modes, right? Anyone?

FYI, the fact that the XBL Marketplace shows the Brawler Costume Pack as being a 124KB download tells me those alternate costumes are on disc and you are just downloading an unlock key. Friggin' nickel-n-diming a-holes. I wanna fight the power but I'll probably cave and buy some of the later costume unlocks.
Back on topic - The character unlocking can be done on "easy" mode, and should be available for all other modes, right? Anyone?
Yes, you can put it on "easiest" mode and doubt you'd have much of a problem. And yes, once you unlock them you can use them in every mode

I'm not buying a single one of these costume packs. Not only is it too expensive for something so little, but I find it ridiculous when DLC is out for a game on day one. It means the content's already done and there's no other reason it couldn't be put in the final product other than take our MS points.

Just picked up the game...tried playing arcade but kept getting interrupted by challengers. went 2-0 and actually dropped my jaw when i (bison) did a knee press into his super on ryu.

now i figured out i can turn that feature off in arcade mode & playing trial. How do i do a special into a super? in trial 4 section 2 it wants me to do j.HK>HP>SK>Super I got the first 3 down just dunno how to do that scissor kicks into special >

Use the charging motion of the scissor kick to also be the charging motion for your super. In other words it sould be:

Hold back 2 seconds, forward, Kick, back, forward, kick.

worked perfectly thanks a bunch. on to trial 5!

I really wish for the trials you could watch the AI do the move like in VF5. Would make it a hell of a lot easier to figure out the timing for some of this crap. I give up for now this is getting way too frustrating.

Since I was not dumb enough to pay and extra $20 for the useless Collectors Edition I consider getting the costumes for FREE.
Is anyone else finding Balrog to be pretty damn cheap?
Uh single player or versus? I love him in versus. He's my new guy. He's godly. Abel gives me the most trouble in single player because you can't hit him out of that fuckin roll.

Found a place that had one CE left. Anyone else get the movie in the game case and the soundtrack in the movie case?

I don't understand how this guy is still around. His trolling/stupidity doesn't even make sense.

The CE only has the one DLC pack, though. Anyways, the Challenges are starting to get ridiculously hard at this point. Auto Revenge Refill along with the ability to not see them. What kind of crap is that?

Unlocking colors/titles/taunts should not be the most difficult thing in the world to do, you know? Especially colors for crying out loud. I just get the feeling Capcom's going to go Namco style DLC here after these costume packs are released.

"The Color Pack"
"The Title Pack"
"The Icon Pack"
"The Personal Action Pack"
"The Character Pack"

I foresee all of this shit coming as DLC sooner or later in the game, and it's quite disgusting.

I've put about 4 hours into the game yesterday and I'm really loving the game so far. I've not put focus attacks into my repertoire and really need to get into canceling focus attacks into other moves, but I really like the intro movies for each character.

I'm also having consistency issues with ultras and supers but I hope that will disappear when my TE stick pre-order finally comes into GameStop.
Is anyone else finding Balrog to be pretty damn cheap?
I've only run across Balrog twice in the arcade mode, but I didn't have problems with him. Zangief and Abel, on the other hand, special throw my ass anytime they please in Arcade mode on Medium.

I dont get the community in this game.

I havent played that much SF in my lifetime but I always played with Ken first and then mixed it up every once and a while. That apparently has been deemed super noob and every move I do is considered cheap because apparently to many people play as Ryu, Sakura, Ken. And throwing a fireball is a damnable offense.

On the other hand..I have played 15 fucking Akumas 10 Geifs and 10 guiles. All of which constantly do the same 8 moves over and over.

I have been piledrived 15 times in a row and havent complained once but the very second I throw a fireball all hell breaks lose.

^ That's just the basic trash talk of any fighter, it's not limited to just SF. Trash talk annoys me too so I just turn off voice chat. It doesn't matter what you do, you're gonna be hated for winning. If you can win by doing the same move over & over again then they deserve to lose.

Do what I do, turn off the mic.

The very reason I usually just play with people I know and locally at that. Too many "experts" at fighting games and not enough players. Hell, I suck. I know I suck. And usually I only relate to a few characters in a fighting game, and damn anybody who doesn't like it. I'm all about just having fun.

Pick who you want and throw all the fireballs you want, and if they don't like it....go get laid. It's more than they are able to do. :)

Eh, it's there in every game but SF definitely has more elitism around it then any other. Like Sirlin says there's nothing cheap if they leave that opening and do whatever it takes to win. If they don't adjust that's their own fault. My favorite from playing HDR online was the person who wasn't that great but talked trash and changed characters every round because they could string all of any characters specials together and made them look impressive.

I'm still having trouble getting through the challenges. Like how am I supposed to cancel out of a heavy kick into Hyakuretsu or from a jumping heavy kick into a Burning Kick. I just don't get it. With Viper I'm even doing it in one motion and negative edging it and he's still recovered.

Got my copy yesterday. Got my ass handed to me by the CPU with C. Viper about a hundred times before I beat her. I love the game design, game play, everything is awesome. However, the AI tends to be cheap at times. And do not use a microsoft 360 wireless controller or pulling off moves will suck.

I just counter Akuma, Ryu, Ken and Sakura with Balrogg, Blanca or Guile. If I see someone pick them, I pick one of those 3. Balrogg is prolly the easiest to win with vs them though as they can shoot fireballs all day and I jump them and send a heavy punch into their face, do it a few times, they're stunned and pretty much fucked.

love the game so far. definitely notice a difference between this and HDR. I think the Arcade Mode w/ Finding player matches is the best way to find matches. I only played 14 matches. 1 Sagat, 1 Guile, 12 Ken&Ryus. Blarg!

Seth is fucking impossible with C Viper. God damn! 30+ fights and I didn't beat him once. I really wanted Cammy too...

Jump in, Fierce Kick, Fierce Sweep, then back off. Rinse and repeat. It's that simple.

The game seems so damn hard for fighting games newbies like me..but I suppose you get the hang of things eventually. So far I'm played on Medium and got through the first three matches in arcade then it gets way too hard. Doesn't help that I can't seem to perfect any moves with the regular controller. Might have to invest in a fightstick.

This sums up pretty much what I was talking about. Like what about my post made you think I wanted to hear how easy you can beat Kens, Ryu's and Akumas?

As anyone looked at gamefaqs? Every other topic is about how picking Ken and Ryu makes you a noob....then inside the thread everyone just list how easily it is to beat them with their godly skill. Its like the ultimate e-dick measure contest.

I guess I am just surprised by the fact that there is so much hate for 2 original members of a long standing game.

Well it all stems from back when they were 5 or some similar age and toddled into the arcade and some teenager playing as Ken or Ryu kept wailing on them. So now that's their mission in life, to make sure everyone knows how much they suck.

Your first problem is that you visit Gamefaqs boards. Almost everyone on that forum is a douche.

Second, for all the complaining you've done, you're still playing the game. I guess that's commendable. :)

Third, play who you want. Who cares what everyone else thinks. I just got done playing 2 different people, both Blanka scrubs. They seriously think they'll catch me with electricity repeatedly. Its laughable.

gamefaqs is for like 11 year olds with negative 17 friends

game is really fun so far, but some characters piss me off( vs cpu) like sagat and seth are pretty hard to beat even on medium.
unlocked cammy so far...

I finally got this game today. I am getting my ass handed to me, I have the Hori Ex2 and I'm having a lot of trouble pulling off moves. I mean I'm having a lot of fun but damn this game is difficult.

And I've learned that Street Fighter fans are some of the biggest douches on the planet, I realize that it's a competitive game but people are just straight asses most of the time online.

1. Looks like someone was asleep at the switch on the DLC code sheet that comes with the CE - the logos/legaleese at the bottom all are XBox 360/Live, but the text in the middle says Playstation Network.

2. Seth's (English) voice in the movie being provided by the guy who did the Narrator in Crackdown made it hard to concentrate at first. I kept expecting to hear "NICE WORK, agent!" every time he started talking.

You aren't the only one about that Hori Ex2. My friend picked one up and he's not great at SF, but he's having trouble with moves too.

Hey, I have said all along that the fighting in the game is rock solid. Its just when other things come up I am critical. I like the game actually...I suck hardcore at it but its still enjoyable.

I am just surprised at the amount of complete douche monkeys that surround the game.

Also...I dibble and dabble in gamefaqs whenever a new game comes out beacuse as crappy as they are.....they always figure out the newest cheese, glitch, tactic..whatever.

I learned how to beat many a boss, level, part, person, etc etc from gamefaqs.

is it just me or is the hori ex2 stick make things harder to pull off. I'm waiting for my TE stick to ship from amazon (a week from today) along with a fighting pad. Hopefully those are better. My brother is kicking all kinds of ass using the xbox controller joystick....

Little of both, took me forever to beat him in single as is, but his dodge and punch is a bitch no matter who I use.

Now I'm stuck on Seth though and goddamn it's bullshit he can butt in mid combos to beat you down.

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to research what the differences are between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions so I can figure out which one to get, ie: online playability, downloadable costumes, graphics, etc. I figured that having to use the XBox 360 controller is the worse of the two, but that there may be more online players and better visuals w/ the Xbox.....? TIA

The impression I get is that more of the "elite" are going PS3, probably because it's easier and cheaper to make and mod custom sticks. Overall I'd bet the 360 will have the more robust and varied in skill player base but that's just me speculating. Otherwise there's really no differences that I've seen published, not any even this one's this color and this one's this color things like you usually see. If you're sticking with the normal controller you'll probably be better off going PS3, if you're going stick or fightpad then it's probably a matter of which system you have more friends to play online with.

I'm so glad I stopped banging my head against the challenge mode and went unlocked my girl Cammy in the easiest one round settings possible. Jumped into medium with her and bam I've got some skill again. Shockingly I actually find her different inputs from HDR a little more comfortable and her new Cannon Strike makes it a lot easier not to get punished for jumping over shotos. Why did they rename Canon Drill though. >.< Anyone able to point me in the right direction towards unlocking some more colors?

CPU Abel is still a cheap piece of garbage.
Well, the Guile & Cammy players were really bad. They kept wanting to jump into the Spinning Lariat. Just stay low and sweep the legs. Cammy's Cannon Drill could make short work of that tactic.
:wall:That was the computer he was playing against. It was Challenge Mode. Did you not see the menu?
