Street Fighter IV - Gen Discussion & Info

WOW! Seth is like the weakest player in the whole game. I swear when akuma does his ultra it takes away at least 60% of his power. And its bullshit when you warp and the other character automatically changes direction to hit you. What is the point in the warp behind someone if the CPU auto switches the other player around to give the opponent the advantage. Oh well. fuck this game im sick of it. I keep losing, and its most of the time by Bullshit moves, and 10% health less for the opponent. Then when i go to fucking win the player quits.

Eh, just because you warp doesn't mean it should be a free attack for you. Otherwise it would be abused. Seth is great for warping and doing his piledriver, but really...you can't complain about him because his damage is toned WAY down in multiplayer. That's just how he is.
Does anyone know what parts I need to swap out the ball top stick in the tournament edition to a bat top stick? I've heard lizardlick mentioned on sites before. Anyone have any other sites?
Just wanted to make sure people saw this becuz it was the last post on the previous page.
I wish Seth was stronger too. :(
Me too, i love his offensive moves, but he takes damage really easy.

One thing i really hate about him is his ultra. Sometimes i try to do it in the heat of battle and i end up warping all over instead of pull off the ultra.

I like both Seth's ultra and super... only problem with him is too much damage. If they release a patch they need to: nerf Sagat and Zangief and make pretty much all console characters like twice as strong.. hahah

Well i didnt mean i dont like his ultra, its pretty funny. Its just that the directions you have to press are too similar to his warp move.

Lot of characters are like that though.. Dhalsim.. Bison.. :\

Whenever I try to do EX shoryuken with Akuma I always forget it's a 2-button move and end up teleporting instead.

Uses for a warp would include if your opponent does a meaty attack and whiffs you can warp behind them and get a free attack before they recover. This tactic works best against ultras you know are coming since they usually have pretty gross recovery time. Other characters like Dhalsim have similar uses. Ground teleports with Sim are really unsafe if you don't know what you're doing though since the recovery time is pretty long. Which is why you want to instant teleport (air teleport) with him. Which pretty much gives you a free combo if you land a close attack. Ie dp,uf+PPP, HP, Yoga Fire. Sim can also use his teleport for a pretty decent cross up. Do a wake up Yoga Catastrophe, teleport behind, and start attacking. This causes a pretty confusing situation if done correctly since your opponent won't know which way to block. That can then lead to a pretty sick damage if the Catastrophe lands and you have a super meter filled you can lay a yoga fire into them as the Ultra hits and then cancel into a Yoga Inferno.

Also, Akuma also has a pretty short health bar. He takes alot of damage when hit. To balance that his Ultra hits alot and pretty much can't be consistantly combo'd without a perfect setup.

Raged?

Why the fuck are using Seth to begin with; pick a better character.

This game is full of frustrating situations. I lost about 300 BP in 3 fights to some lucky bullshitters, but I'm not going to /sf4

I've given up on ranked. Its not worth it. Beating up chumps for 20 pts or less when i lose 124 if I lose is lame. I just play player matches, and mostly with my friends.
Raged?
Yes i was raged. Sorry but im not that good at this game and its really annoying when i lose all the time. Especially frustrating losses like when i get someones power down to 10% or less and they end up winning. Or because i try to puch or kick them and my character wont attempt the move because the opponent was quicker to hit me first. Sometimes its like i cant block or get a chance to do a move because of this. Then there are the times when im trying to pull off a special move or ultra, and they just dont work. Its frustrating to go to do a move and it doesnt come out.

I started to play Seth when I first unlocked him but found he was just to slow for me. I would do the warp but like was said they would change direction and then I would be hit. I'm sure if I was to learn the character I would have been better with him but don't think he is all that great. Even in single player I thought he was crap.

To win more BP search for people "more skilled". If you win you'll get more BP if you lose you'll lose less BP. From my experience people with the same skill will usually get you 50-60 BP and it goes up and down from there depending on how skilled the other player is.

Wow, i lose 3 matches in a row, then when i finally go to win one, they quit. Cant win being a suck player.

but its why i hate the whole bp system. you can just sit there and play new players all day and rack up a ton of points...and lets say you are the one looking for more skilled.you end up getting trash like that. i feel for 7th number and the others. i dont think capcom really thought it through about the online ranking system but atleast they are making an attempt to fix it and hopefully get rid of this bp mess.

what a loser.i hate players like that.

The ranking system would be better if they made people fight people on the same level of winning percentage. Screw BP, right now i have 312BP and the most i had was 971. But im constantly winning only 30% of my matches.

And for quitters they should make it where they lose 100+ BP points if they quit and it ends any kind of streak they are on.

That's not really how it works though. If you play more skilled players and win you get more points and they lose more points because you just beat a more skilled player and they lost to a less skilled player. If you lose they get few points and you lose few points. Sitting there playing lower skilled players all day will net you only a few BP and you can not search for less skilled players. Say you lose a match to a lower skilled player you lose lets say 100bp and they get that 100bp. Then you go back to playing lower skilled players and only gain lets say 20bp per match. So to even get that 100 back you lost you have to win 5 more rounds. Also, having a high bp does not mean they are a high skilled player. Unfortunately, having low bp does not mean low skilled either.

Try doing some of the trials with your favorite character to get the movements down. You can unlock some titles while you work on the motions.

If you're on a normal 360 pad, I feel for you. Mine is worn down a bit, and it's already a challenge enough to make sure the controller knows you're making a Z motion instead of a half-circle. Just keep at it and you'll get better eventually.

I agree with the quitting thing. I had someone quit on me in the last round when I busted my ultra on them while they had 20% of life left. I don't even know how people quit. I know I can't push start to quit. Some people need to learn to take a loss, if they can't take losing their BP they need to play player match.

I'm far from great, but I can hold my own against a lot people with higher BP than me.

See this is what i dont understand. When both people try to grab at the same time, they cancel it out and they both get moved back a little. Well this match i just had dude grabbed me two or three times as i was trying to grab him at the same exact time. Yet they never got canceled out, and he would always grab me.

Ive been doing better. I won 5 out of 7 matches using Ryu. Those 2 losses are mainly from fuck ups. Like trying to do a move and it doesnt come out which leaves me getting hit with a bunch of moves.

Holy crap! Ive been searching for people with similar skill, instead of just making a room and taking on anyone, and i won 14 of 20 games. Thats 70% of my matches. Usually i win about 30% of the time. Ive been using Ryu for them all. And some of the losses could have been avoided had i been able to pull off the moves i wanted, and one match i did my ultra but akuma did his and he went right through my fireball and grabbed me. It was that close to a win. I think maybe im getting better. Like when im close to beating someone, isntead of freaking out and trying to get one hit off them i kind of take the situation in hand and think. But wow what a turn around. My longest streak during these 20 games is 4 wins and 2 losses in a row. I know sometimes i go on a rant, because im frustrated at losing. I really should stop posting when im mad. lol. Oh yeah, my BP was like 300 something earlier and now i have the most BP i ever had with 1008. :)

EDIT: So i played 34 matches today and won 23, which is 67% of my fights. Now this is fun. :)

Aww yeah just got the win 10 ranked games in a row achievement! :D Thanks to some Zangief player who just gave up cos i just shot fireballs at him. Normally i wouldnt do all fireballs, but i had 10 wins in a row on the line. LOL Im not stupid enough to let Gief get close to me.

EDIT: Wow my last 50 games using the search for people with same skill level, i went 37 wins 13 losses with Ryu. 74%. I even bumped my overall winning percentage from 30% to 36%. Its really amazing that im doing this. Maybe all along i was always fighting people way better than me. Or Ryu is just that awesome. LOL. I even completed another Hard Trial #2 with Ryu in like 10 tries. My highest BP now was 1401.

Damn i only have Ryu hard trial level 5 and i get it all the way till the last move. I cant get him to do the ultra before dan hits the ground. He always ends up doing it after he hits the ground. Damn, so close!!

That was a waste of a couple hours. I cant believe anyone can do this in a game, let alone in the trial. It just seems impossible. no matter how fast i do it, ryu wont even attempt to shoot the fire ball till after dan hits the ground. Great, now Chun Li and Ryu are ones i only need to beat 1 trial for and they seem impossible.

I"m done with ranked matches. The whole system is broken. I lost 124 points to someone, no big deal. The next 3 matches, I get 1 point each...on MORE SKILLED search setting. The game just finds whoever is randomly in the queue. Its just stupid.
Dman you need the bat top and an adapter, but I don't think LizardLick is taking new orders until April.
Do u know what kind of adapter?

Just want to throw my name out there for those that are looking for fun matches! (I'm not that great and just want to find some fun and relaxed competition)

EDIT: I'm trying to learn Bison because I really love his alternate costume - but I just can't seem to keep up the pressure like you are supposed to do with him.

I got the game this weekend, I suck at it but wouldn't mind trying the multiplayer.

Would it be best to go into player matches?

There seems little point going into Ranked matches if I'm barely going to get a hit in, I suppose I'll learn something out of each fight if nothing else.

Ranked matches are only if you care about battle points, which is nothing more than a penis measuring contest. There is an achievement to win 10 in a row in ranked, so you may want to do that, otherwise, you'll likely find the same skill levels in player matches anyway.

It's set up so if a person disconnects there's no penalty? Who's bright idea was that? All online games that are match based need to give an automatic loss to a person who disconnects and a win to his or her opponent otherwise there is always major abuse.

I haven't seen it confirmed, but I think you take a loss still. The only thing is, even if you lose, you can disconnect before the game removes your BP's.
I read about the shortcut for shoryukens by going F-DF-D-DF then attacking. Can do em non-stop now and its great :D Increased my win percentage by 10% yesterday by winning about 13-14/20 matches
Can anyone explain what this means?

The disconnectors probably just found a way to win without getting a loss by signing out of their profile or something. Honestly, just play player matches. Find a friend or a cool person online and just get a bunch of matches in.

I find this to be much more enjoyable. I don't "get" this game like the past SF games(it still feels weird and I whenever I rushdown I get hurt) and the netcode is all over the place with random players.

And I dunno if this was discussed but I have a friend who claims in Ranked Matches over the weekend he was fighting a Ryu whose Ultra and super meters never depleted. Has anyone heard of hacking in this game? He's usually full of crap but sounded sincere (aka pissed) when we were talking about SF4 in a party.
Can anyone explain what this means?
Technically, the motion for a Dragon Punch is F,D,DF+P. You can do f,df, d, df +P and just roll your thumb. Easier than the actual input.

If any of y'all ho's ever wants to play a bit of player matches, I'll take a break from my BP whoring to school you.

Just add a "CAG" note to your friend request so I know where it's coming from, because I have like, so many people trying daily to become my friend.

Slowly I'm playing new guys and learning their combos and stuff. I find the charge characters more difficult to play as. I tried Blanka, and his moves seem very weak for the part. Then when I play the odd guy who actually can use him somewhat decently, hes terribly tough to beat. I really like his crouch punch though where he lies on the ground.
Just tried Cammy and its really fun to play as her. Midair grabs are terribly fun and I like the speed and move range. I played this ken who jumped over and over trying to get away whenever I kncoked him down. I must have jump grabbed him around 7 times before KO :p

Who's tried out Gouken? Using him against scrubby kens is hilarious, they'd do their standard jumping RH, and eat a parry/counter that sends them flying across the screen. Then, not to be deterred, they'd repeat, and eat another one. 30% damage by just defending lol. I think Gouken has one of the coolest looking ultras, just gotta get the timing down.

Using the back grab move flips them into an ultra setup, and works pretty good.

Lol, I'm just blanking on what F, D, DF, etc. mean.
