Street Fighter IV PS3 Official Discussion Thread

Wow, it's been a while since I've played cause I just got my ass handed to me by a good Chun-Li player. My 5 wins to that person's 15 wins... was fun though.
smh Blanka flowchart...

play me, that's all I gotta say
lol, your blanka is great and I can honestly only beat him with Honda. lol but that chart is so true for most blankas online now
Yeah people have just plain gotten better since the game has been out for a bit now.

I haven't gone online on it for a few days because everyone always disconnects. I'll go online when championship mode comes out. Or if I see a friend on.
I will start playing again to get up to the 506 wins so if you see me on hit me up

finally got the 500 matches the other day, now I am only 5 challenges away from the gold trophy. hard time trials 3,4,5 and survival 3,4

I will probably never finish the move trials so that is a lost cause for me.

So. . . has the new PS3 update fixed the lag for SF4? I remember reading somewhere on here that the new PS3 update was supposed to fix some networking issues. If it does fix the lag for SF4, I'll still whine and cry about losing, but I won't have any excuse, now! :whistle2:#

You're so close though, keep at it. 5 more sets of trials to do and you've got a platinum.

I'm waiting on a custom stick from SRK but everytime I quit playing for a while and come back I get whooped. I am probably just going to not play until May when i get my custom stick. It takes too much effort to be competitive. I'll friend some of you guys when that time comes.

I never understand when people say stuff like this. Out of the hundreds of matches I've played only about 5 were laggy.

I've even had some matches against red connections run flawless.

I lost a tournament last weekend to E Honda in loser's bracket (I lost winner's to a Ryu player, who's actually a top ranked 3S player in USA)

seriously, next time I play Honda I'm jus gonna turtle... sit and wait for him coz I seriously cannot win if I try to get close -_-

I ordered some Saturn USB controllers, and i've about tapped out RE5 for the time being. I should be ready to start playing online soon!

I doubt it's the machine. It's the connection. All my friends have been able to play fine, but they have cable connections. I have DSL, and before that, I had WiMax, and they both weren't so great. I don't think it's a matter of speed though, I think it's more about ping. Testing connections, I sometimes get a ping of 50 ms, although, it's been a little closer to 20 ms lately, where my friends (with cable) get 3 to 5 ms.

The irritating thing about lag, is that you do something (hadouken, punch, BLOCK[!]), and it'll come out half a second later unless you get hit (in which case, you get hit and it won't come out at all).

So, I doubt the firmware update changes this. . . but here's to being hopeful?
For people complaining about lag, go here:

Then go to Tools and run a Line Quality test and post your results please.
50ms ping is excellent, I get 160ms on average myself and play flawlessly all the time. Looking at your results, there's absolutely no problems with your line, so we can kill that possibility. How do you have your network setup?

Just played a ranked match with a skilled Sagat player, first round he wiped me out, second I managed to get a win, and the third we were both down to about 5% health but he hit me with an Ultra before I could throw him..... such an adrenaline rush.
That was intense, like the equivalent of consuming 2 energy drinks in a minute.  I'm addicted to Street Fighter again.

yeah same thing happened to me, my Rose and his Guile had 0 health in the final round, of course he just kills me with block damage from his flash kick haha. I'm sitting at 700 BP and he was at 2600 BP... so close... lol...

well hey I need to play some more games, so anytime you see me hit me up so you can practice your blanka against my honda.

I am starting to get addicted to SF4 again myself. I just wish I could finish those move trials. arghhh. I can see it now. this time next year I will stilll be complaining about the move trials.

you ever have those days when you can hit every combo and do exactly what you wanna do when you wanna do it? then the next time you play absolutely nothing comes out right? well that happened to me last night. I think i need to play nonstop again because it feels like a day off makes you rusty real fast.

I posted this in the trading forum, but I figured I would post it here also, to let you guys now. I'm having to sell some things, and one of them is my only slightly used Chun Li PS3 fightpad controller. Everything on it still works perfectly, I just need the extra cash. PM me if interested, I'm asking $35 paypal for it shipped (just the controller and wireless dongle, no box).

OMG! How do you play with a ping that high!?
Well, I'm running a DSL modem to my Linksys router which the PS3 connects to wirelessly. I've tried hardwiring it to the router, but it's still lagging. I've given priority to my PS3 on my router (I think?), but even if I'm not doing ANYTHING on-line, it'll still lag. My PS3 has a static IP, with, I get NAT type 2 with UPnP available, all tests successful, the ports on my router opened (port 80 tdp, 5233 or something, etc.), and I still lag. I usually only find people with at least 4 bars, and I still lag (they don't seem to be lagging at all though). The funny thing is, I think I remember playing against 'no bar' people, and I guess they lagged, too, making it 'fair'. :/

I can play shooters just fine though (usually; sometimes it will lag, but I attribute that to PS3 hardware lag when too much is going on).

I appreciate your help btw, I just don't think there's anything I can do, except get a cable connection (or FIOS, which isn't available where I am). Thanks anyway though.

I actually have cable, lol. I play very well with a ping that high too. No problems at all.
just saw this over at gamefaqs about blanka and I to me it is just as funny as the ken flowchart. look for yourself.

it is missing the slide, but it is still pretty dead on.
These flowcharts are fun. You could do one with Cammy and Akuma too. Cammy would pretty much be drill and spike infinitely. And Akuma would be jump back, air fireball, red fireball, do i have an ultra yet? ultra!!! Infinitely.

So I'm entering my first tournament since the Game Stop one back when the game was launched.

For those of you who have been climbing the online ranking ladder, do you have a rough break-down of the skill levels? I'd like to know where I fall in the skill curve at a measly 1100.

Example:
Beginner = 0-2000
Intermediate = 2001 - 6000
Advanced = 6001-12000
Stay Away! = 12001 - Ridiculous

You can't go by BP really. 1)People disconnect. 2)Make new accounts to get huge ammounts of BP from everyone since they are at 0bp 3)spammer scrubs have tons of BP somehow despite being easily beaten.

@ecofreak- yeah the bp system is really not a good measure though it is reliable once people get in the higher numbers like 7000 and above.

honestly as it stands right now there is no real way to tell how good a player is until you actually fight them. though you can pretty much tell how good they are from the first few moves in the round.

WHOA I never saw that part, 25 fucking dollars? Really?!?
I thought that giving it for free was a way of relieving some of the rape that people endured from the costume unlock keys.

I thought I misread the Famitsu article for a second. Yeah, Kotaku fucked up, they edited the post. Expansion still free.

Did kotaku go around sniffing those highschool girl panties again and committed a huge boner?

The only way I could think that Kotaku said it cost $25 was that the person misread the date 24th as 2400 yen or something, as long as they didn't question any other website's credibility, a mistake's a mistake.

Though not having the same features cross-platform in this expansion, let alone not having the ability to export replay video files to the hard drive on the PS3 version, seems weird.

@godly one. if this is the case then us ps3 users are getting screwed and now I have to actually go out and get sf4 on 360 :(. they still have CE sf4 360 versions at all my local bestbuys. lol

this means now I really have to buckle down and started playing ranked matches so I can get my BP up to get into the better tournaments. *now I get to really unleash my zangief for the world to see* ;)

Also aren't the costume packs supposed to be sold as a bundle starting next week or something? I wish they gave the option of picking 2 or three packs for a certain price.

*on a side note I still gotta finish 5 things in RE5 before I can focus truly on SF4 again.)

The only console up until now that openly let people export screenshots and spam Youtube with gameplay videos doesn't get the ability to export replays to the hard drive, like it doesn't make any sense. But the majority of people probably aren't going to be using the replay system more than once anyways. I'd just label someone's ragequit as "beautiful" and go back to psycho crushin' fools.

Seriously -- what good is giving 360 owners the ability to download videos when not ever 360 has a HD to download to, while all PS3s have a hard drive?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!:bomb::bomb::bomb:

Personally, I'm pissed off. The PS3 is the console used for all tournaments, including the biggest tournament in America (if I'm not mistaken, EVO).

People bought more copies of the PS3 version because of the controller (likely), and thus are perhaps a more competitive bunch. So what good is having an actual worthwhile replay capability on the system that would see the least benefit?!?!!? :bomb::bomb::bomb:

The whole thing is backwards if you ask me.

BIG EDIT

Turns out there is more to Championship Mode than we originally heard...
Here's how the tournaments work in the Championship Mode: Tourneys are divvied up into five different levels, making it possible for players of various skill levels to compete on the same footing. Like with tournament play, character selection is "double-blind", meaning you cannot see who your opponent has selected for his fighter. Player score Grade Points (GP) for wins and can use their accumulating GP total to enter higher level tournaments.

Those who win tournaments get Championship Points (CP), which Capcom compares to "prize money". So fighting against players with higher GP means a bigger CP purse. The top 5,000 CP leaders get the option to upload replays that are available for everyone to watch on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

As we previously posted, the PS3 version lets users vote in real time on things they think "Funny", "Awesome" or "Beautiful" — and vote every 30 frames (which is 2x per second). There is a cap to avoid total spamming, Capcom points out. Voting is not possible on the Xbox 360 version; however, as we posted previously, players can save their machines and see which inputs players are using.

"The new tournament system is totally addictive," Capcom's Seth Killian tells Kotaku. "Winning takes you higher and higher, but even if you get knocked out in your first match, there's always another tournament starting immediately, so you're never out of the action. With replays, if you're a junkie for great Street Fighter matches like I am, you basically just got the best cable channel in the world for free."

The Championship Mode hits April 24, free of charge.
I am disappointed that PS3 users won't be able to download their own replays, but at least we'll have access to the top tier matches for review. It's a half-loss, at best and totally stupid at worst.

Well, Capcom could always
Fix the horrid lobby system
Lets players unlock costumes through gameplay instead of having to shell out the cash

No? Alright, since we've been granted this ability, I'll vote this expansion as:
"Funny" "Awesome" "Beautiful"

honestly the only DLC i could ever feel okay paying for was the RB2 music since there was licensing involved. Right now the only DLC costumes I have are the ones included with my CE.

I'm inclined to agree that charging for things like costumes is totally asenine, but someone has to play for the cost associated with servers -- and I believe that it's Capcom.

Once you pay for the game, that's pretty much it for what you give to Capcom yet they continue to spend money so you can enjoy their online services. Should the cost of such maintenance be included in the original price tag? Perhaps, but there would be a big PR fiasco trying to explain why it's more than most other games.

This doesn't just apply to SFIV, but to all games with large online communities. Paying for licensed DLC certainly is understandable, but I believe that "bonus" features such as additional costumes (that neither limit or expand upon the experience) are company's attempt to recoup the incredible cost associated of developing games for this generation of highly-advanced platforms.
you and me both jterp just got one more thing to do in re5 and I am fully back to being devoted to this game again.
your gief is retarded to play against...............
too good! got so frustrated playing ya lolol

SF4 national finals were crazyyyy. Some guy even has videos up already. Daigo VS Japanese champ Iyo was definitely the best match of the night:

And then whenever Justin Wong did Rufus's ultra, the crowd would all do the last motion. Awesome (ultra starts at ~2:00):

Took some horrible quality camera phone photos (gallery and commentary here) but I'm sure all the blogs will have better stuff up tomorrow. Here's some of the stuff I picked up instead:

Brought my copy of SF4 to get signed by Ono -- they weren't giving those out. :)

QFT -- I enjoyed that match more than the championship.

So why, in this day and age, couldn't Gamestop have done a live feed?

By any chance do any of u CAGs have a MAS arcade stick for the PS2 that u use for SF IV on the PS3? Is so, does it work 1st off, and 2nd, is there any lag? Thanks in advance.
