Super Paper Mario to come April 9 (Update!).
Nintendo's pretty smart with what they're doing. They've definitely got some *huge* guns in their arsenal for Christmas '07. Taking two holiday seasons in row is going to be massive, and given the current course, there's no reason why they shouldn't overtake the 360 by early '08.
There's a reason why they won't overtake the 360, Halo 3.
There's a reason why they won't overtake the 360, Halo 3.
Halo 3 is bigger then anything Nintendo or Sony has for 08 (not bigger then GTA though), but does anyone really think that the vast majority of people who want Halo 3 and willing to pay $400 for the system don't already have a 360 for Gears and the hundreds of other shooters on the system? Without a price drop, I doubt Halo 3 moves the same number of units we all think it can.

Even with that, while Halo 3 is bigger then any title anyone can come up with, I think that Super Smash Bros Brawl comes close to driving as many units as Halo since the Wii is cheaper (assuming it makes November which it probably won't).
There's a reason why they won't overtake the 360, Halo 3.
And yet, the way I've been seeing hype for this little white box grow, I'd say Wii Sports is a Halo-killer in terms of selling systems.

Halo 3 will be huge, but I think in the end Wii Sports will have sold more Wiis than Halo 3 will sell 360s (especially considering a good chunk of the people already anticipating Halo 3 have a 360, myself not yet included). It's not a move aimed at us, so it's hard for us to fathom, but just yesterday my Dad was trash talking me about how his Wii Tennis scores were higher than mine (I nabbed him a system a few weeks ago and sent it to him after he loved mine at Christmas). He has many people coming to his Super Bowl party early next weekend just to play the Wii. It's really weird.

If the hype is sustained and they can actually get these systems in stores, I see no reason why Nintendo wouldn't overtake Microsoft in systems sold by a slim margin this year. That's a lot of "if" though.

I'm anxious to get my hands on Super Paper Mario. Now would be a great time to start releasing demos via the Wii Shop Channel, Nintendo. My little SD card can take it, I promise.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I think Wii Sports is a killer app.

I 100% agree. I can play Wii Baseball for hours. I WILL get flamed for this, but I have more fun playing Wii Baseball than I do Twilight Princess.
Well, only reason I asked is because an earlier thread where some people posted that it came back and would come out on GC first.

I'm just wondering why line ups for everything but the PS2 and 360 look so sad.
Because those are the only established systems at the moment.

I'm a Wii Bowling type of guy. That's the first game I bust out when people come over to check out the system.
It is truly amazing how people can find negative in absolutely everything. Unbelievable.

Godfather, SSX Blur, The Bigs, Bust A Move Bash, Tiger Woods, Prince of Persia Rival Swords, Blazing Angels, Cooking Mama Cook Off, Legend of The Dragon, Heatseeker, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Dragon Quest Swords, Alien Syndrome.

Im assuming you are thinking those will all be crap?
I doubt they'll all be crap, but nothing their really interests me personally.

Godfather-hate GTA and gta ripoffs (hate open ended gameplay, the control etc.)
SSX Blur- hate extreme sports games
Bust A Move Bash- not a big fan of puzzle games, never liked any previous games in this series
Tiger Wood- hate golf
Prince of Persia- series got stale after the 1st game, and this is just a remake of the 3rd one
Mortal Kombat Armageddon- series has sucked balls since MKII
Dragon Quest Swords- never got into the series, and this is just a spin off. Could end up being good like Rocket Slime, but probably not worth $50
Alien Syndrom--haven't heard of this one before.

I'm also no interested in Wiiplay, Mario Party or the Mario Soccer game. :D

Different strokes for Different folks.

Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario and Smash Bros are the only confirmed/likely 2007 titles that have me excited. But I can't complain as 4 titles I'd probably buy at $50 is pretty good for one system with my exteremly picky and limited tastes. And there will hopefully be a decent surprise in the third party games here and there.
Brawl? Yeah, it will, but not towards the end. Maybe a November release? I was kinda hoping they would do it like the Cube launch...a month or so after.
I hope so, but I can't see them releasing MP3, Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl all this year...the world might blow up from so much awesomeness. and if one were to get delayed for improvements, it would probably be Brawl.

Godfather: Port
SSX Blur: New game, totally different gameplay.
The Bigs: Port
Bust A Move Bash: New game, same gameplay
Tiger Woods: Port
Prince of Persia Rival Swords: Port
Blazing Angels: Port
Cooking Mama Cook Off: Remake
Legend of The Dragon: Port
Heatseeker: Port
Mortal Kombat Armageddon: Port
Dragon Quest Swords: New game, totally different game play.
Alien Syndrome: Port

I don't think that these games will suck, it's just that the Wii needs third party exclusives that are designed for the Wii that are new IPs. That list you posted seems to only emphasize this more.

Me... lol. Beaten the first one 3 times or so, and TTYD once or twice (forget xD). Ya, great game....I feel like playing it again!

Is this game supposed to be an RPGish game like the other Paper Mario games, or is it to be a platformer like the Super Mario games just with a 3D element?

I was really looking forward to this game because I thought it was to be like the latter, but it seems that everyone else has a different view of this game. Has it been stated to be either type of game? (Source?)

I want some more Mario platforming! NSMB just left me wanting more.

It is primarily a platformer. But being that it is in the Paper Mario universe/style, there might be RPG elements.

Some kinda of Metroidvania shit would be incredible.

I beat TTYD last year and have been waiting for this game since. I am glad it is coming out in April just in time for my birthday.

have not beaten it, but I spent many hours watching my nephew and niece playing it. Looks like fun, but I'm more interested in platformers.

Are they going to slap a "Best Seller" logo on some of the initial shipments of this game like they did on my copy of TTYD? That still irks me a little bit, but yes, I've beaten both previous Paper Mario games.

I'm certainly glad to see this is coming out pretty soon though as after I finish up Twilight Princess, I really didn't see much that I was going to be interested in this spring. (Please don't list the games that I should be interested in, I know what's coming out).

Thousand-Year Door is probably my favorite RPG not named Oblivion from the last five years (I haven't played Final Fantasy XII yet, or even removed the shrinkwrap), as it's got outstanding gameplay mechanics to keep the battles more interactive, and the highest form of 'adult' humor: the kind that doesn't require profanity or suggestive themes (see: the ravens in the trees random banter). I'll take Bowser pratfalls over preening, poutty pretty boys (and prissy, perfect princesses) anyday.
Raises hand. Great game.
Same here. Only gripe was there was too much worthless dialog that had you reading too much when the story and dialogue was pretty crappy for the most part.

But still a fantastic game.

Not much bearing on Super Paper Mario though since it is a platformer.

These are my exact thoughts. I'm tired of bullshit boyband fantasy swordcamp titles that adhere to all 192 cliches that one website catalogs.

Bowser was hilarious in the game. I kept having the feeling that he was constantly yelling "HELL YEAH! HELL YEAH!" the whole time he was doing anything. Which made every scene he was in especially hilarious. Marching around, knocking down blocks 'n shit. This makes me think he should be saying it at all times. Stealing the princess? HELL YEAH! Stealing some item of unquestionable power? HELL YEAH! Beating the shit out of Luigi? HELL YEAH!

I beat and enjoyed TTYD. Though, much like with SMRPG, I don't understand the overwhelming accolades. Nintendo characters imposed on another ho-hum RPG narrative still makes for a ho-hum narrative. Some people like the NOA localization team's sense of humor--I don't.

There have been RPGs that I have played multiple times to try to level faster using secrets or simply because I enjoyed the combat system, but TTYD wasn't one of them. I thought the Badge system looked like it could be fun to piss around with on a number of playthroughs, but I just couldn't bring myself to press A as many times as needed to get through dialogue, etc. all over again.

It was a 20-25 hr. RPG made much longer by cutesy dialogue that went on and on and on. But goddamn was it a fine looking game.
Emphasis mine.

To say that you are in the minority here would be like saying water is wet.
I'm mainly talking about the long periods of dialogue inbetween missions. Some of the end game stuff was great (like the Ravens etc.).

But I didn't need the 5-10 minute cutscenes in after getting a star etc. Just slowed down the game as the main story was boring IMO and it got repetitive without the rambling by the old Toad professer after every stage etc.

I was 27 when I played it, maybe the story was more engrossing for younger gamers. Beats me.

Exactly what I was getting at.

Still a great game though, as gameplay is the key.

I'll agree with oyu that it took a bit too long after getting a star, but to say that the dialogue was crappy is just plain wrong. I play the few RPGs I do solely for the plot, the only exception being Nintendo-released RPGs: I play those purely for the dialogue. It doesn't matter what point in the game you look at, it's always THE BEST localization out there.

"The Great Gonzalez" alone made the entire game worth a purchase.
It doesn't matter what point in the game you look at, it's always THE BEST localization out there.
Again, this is very much subjective. What you consider "THE BEST" others consider "mind numbingly saccharine."

I've never given the "kiddie" argument any credence, but if I were to cave and lob kiddie bombs at Nintendo, I wouldn't pick on the graphics, gameplay, or game themes, I'd pick on the localization efforts. TTYD is a good example of a title that feels to me like NOA localizers took liberties with the original to make their own cutesy dialogue.

And when there's that much dialogue, for the first few hours you kind of chuckle and say, "Okay, that's cute, I'm hitting A now." Beyond that you're tapping A as fast as you can while muttering, "Yes, yes, you're all so quirky and original. Move along now..."

I kind of wish they had made a Paper Luigi game based upon the stuff he talked about doing during TTYD. His adventure sounded pretty trippy and humorous. Maybe they'd be able to farm it out to somebody since they already have the story and gameplay elements laid out.

It'd make a good DS game. That's for sure.

Haha that part was awesome....Getting yoshi was sweet, Rawk Hawk was the ultimate wrestler, and The Great Gonzales was the best name ever xD
Anyone see this:

http://www.destructoid.com/coming-for-psp-crush-29428.phtml

Looks cool and reminds me of elements that was featured in the demo for SPM from last year. Hopefully SPM has similar puzzle elements. And the description from Nintendo Power makes me think that the leveling up system might add some cool puzzles.
Wow...that looks really fuckin' cool. I'll have to keep my eye on that one.

I saw a bunch of screens for SPM and was surprised by how grainy things looked. I figured the graphics would get a boost out of the GC to Wii transfer.
Predicting prices for TTYD will go up soon.
Its a Players Choice title and I have seen it everywhere. If it goes up, people are just morons.

I was speaking of a non-PC version, if there is one.
In case anyone was still unconvinced of the April release, Nintendo just put out a goofy press release announcing the marriage of Peach and Bowser...

... on April 9, 2007 at the beginning of Super Paper Mario.

April 9th is gonna be quite an eventful day for me: Both teh wedding of Peach and Bowser AND my mother's birthday.

According to the rep I contacted, "GameCube still has a large base of users but Nintendo’s focus is making games for DS and Wii." So there might be other announced Gamecube titles made by Nintendo jumping to Wii, like DK Bongo Blast, which is marked as a TBA release.

Pretty sure it's been all but confirmed that Bongo Blast is now a Wii game.

We won't see anymore first part (and no decent games period) on the GC in the future. It's as dead as the original X-box.

The PS2 will straggle on for a while due to its HUGE user base.

You're just throwing out 3rd party games to throw out 3rd party games. Yes 50% of those will be crap. Given EA's track record with games, and most importantly games rushed in the 1st year of a system all EA's games will be rushed ports. Blazing Angels in no way has any potential to be good, especially given Ubisoft's rushed crappy Wii titles. And I'll hold out hope for DQ and PoP.

As numerous developers have stated, when making 3rd party games for a Nintendo system you're biggest competitor is Nintendo. Nintendo has such a strong track record with their software that after consumers shell out money for their software there is less of an incentive or a lack of money to buy 3rd party software. Its true. I really cannot think of any 3rd party GC games that sold tremendously well besides RE4 and Soul Calibur (exempting EA games, because those will sell well on any system)..
