Super Paper Mario to come April 9 (Update!).
Wow. I wasn't expecting this to be a 20+ hour game. Pretty cool.
For $50 it BETTER be.
I'm going to go preorder with my next paycheck.

Cannot wait.
Even if you preorder you still have to wait. ;)

I don't need your logic!

I DON'T NEED IT AT ALL!

Since NOA decided Shane couldn't have up his whole Super Paper Mario questions thingy - here's the rest of it, or at least some of it.

I "spoilered" it just in case.

Braidedsamurai87 asks, "Will there be a Gamecube release eventually?"

Sadly, nope. Nintendo really should have though...look at how well Twilight Princess has sold on the Cube. Missed opportunity, guys....

Sunderland asks, "Does the game has a sense of humor similar to,or better than that of Paper mario 2?"

Yep, expect the same off-the-wall humor and hi jinks from PM2...I'm pretty sure the same writers/translators are back. I laughed out loud a lot while playing this game...it's especially brutal in its mockery of message board trolls.

Moogletim asks, "You said that you dont start out with the basic actions like run and other actions on the 1upyours show. Is it like Traditional RPG's and that you earn or buy them like magic in Final Fantasy?"

Good question--each character has one unique ability (Mario can 'flip,' Peach can float using her parasol, and Bowser can breathe fire), but all of them can use the abilities given to you by 'Pixls' these weird little familiars that you find throughout your quest. These guys allow you to do stuff like run really fast, throw objects/enemies, etc. The magical effects you've seen in past PM games only exist as one-time-use items.

JoeFu asks, "How is the difficulty for the game? It's not too easy is it?"

It starts out pretty easy, but gets pretty damned tough by the end...and the puzzles offer solid challenge for your brain throughout.

Underfooter muses, "Is this the next big thing for wii owners after Zelda would you say? Or is it just a mild distraction until Super Mario Galaxy?"

Compared to most of the Wii stuff out there, this is a really meaty game. It's also more accessible than the past PM games, given its traditional mario gameplay. The complex 2D/3D mechanic might scare off little kids, but I think that older gamers will want to spend some quality time with this.

New_Generation_Gamer asks several questions, starting with, "You said the player controls 'several different characters' throughout the game. Does that mean any multiplayer at all, even minigames?"

As far as I can tell, SPM has no multiplayer gameplay whatsoever. It could have a hidden minigame or something, but so far, no dice.

He then asks, "Will it work with Wii Connect24 in anyway?"

Nope.

And ends with, "Also you said you missed some optional stuff, does that mean alot of sidequests to keep you busy when you get tired of the main story?"

You'll spy the occasional mysterious locked door or inacessible area, but it's not a wide-open RPG by any means. I'm guessing there's about an hour or two of side-questing that I missed my first time through.

Some crazy kid named JohnTV asks, "Will you send it to me? Today?"

Sure thing. It's on its way.

Chronomoose asks, "Shane, do you think that Nintendo will ever do a true Mario RPG sequel rather than Paper Mario? Or is that something that went out the window when Squaresoft-Enix moved on to greener, more Sony-ish pastures?"

Seems doubtful to me, bro...at least we'll see Super Mario RPG on Virtual Console eventually. The only Square/Nintendo co-op games on the horizon are the Crystal Chronicles sequels for DS/Wii. Maybe one day we'll see something else...like maybe a Kingdom Hearts/Mario crossover! Dare to dream...

CrankyPanda (among others) asks, "Does it continue the story of a past paper mario, or does the story come from the ground up?

It's a totally original story that takes place in the wacky world of Flipside. Nothing from the previous two games here, except for Mario. and Co.

TrueNerd asks, "Is the music more akin to the other Paper Marios or is it remixes of the classic platformers or is it something entirely different?"

You'll hear plenty of fun remixes here, along with a lot of original music that uses some cool retro/chippy instruments to good effect.

Sign me up. This is enough that I am definitely going to get this game now!
wasn't paper mario TTYD like 40 hours? ... or I might just be forgetting and its only like 20...
25-30 hours

Haha, yeah right, how many $50 games can you honestly say are 20+ hours in single player nowadays. Better be my ass.

:D Yeah, a little game called Gears of War begs to differ. 6 - 10 hours of gameplay for $60. I'm getting to the point where I don't care how long a game is, as long as it is a fun and satisfying experience. Hell, even if a game is only 10 hours long, that just means you can probably beat it in a week and trade it in for pretty good value.

Most games average about 20 hours, not taking into account RPGs and open-ended games that can go for 50+, so what the hell are you talking about?

Depends. A lot of shooters (Gears of War), racing games, action games (God of War) are more in the 8-15 hour range these days in single player, with the multiplayer being the main draw in many of them.

I'm just talking about the fact that you act as though if it weren't at least 20+ hours, you wouldn't be buying it, which I seriously doubt. Or that you are somehow entitled to 20+ hours of single player by paying $50, which in this day is just not the case. Like others stated, most games in single player now end up lasting me 10-15 hours if I'm lucky, i.e. Crackdown, Gears of War, Wario Ware Smooth Moves.

Hmm, what the hell are you talking about? Browse through this thread real quick.

You'll notice that most single player, non-rpg games are under 20 hours.

Maybe you should change your sig to:

20+ hours of gameplay is what makes games great - not story or graphics

You act like those times are 100% accurate fact. Do you even know what they are based on? How they were calculated?

Yeah some games are shorter than 20 hours, but then that is why I said the word average. Not to mention the fact that different gamers play at different speeds - most wanting to rush through a game.

It doesn't really matter. Any gamer who wants to consistently pay $50 for a couple hours of gameplay can do so. I won't be the one getting shafted. After all I AM a Cheapass.
Am I the only one who wants shorter games?
Nope. I'm suffering trying to break 20 hours with FFVI (my all-time favorite game).

But at the same time, I won't be paying $50 for shorter games either.

I don't want shorter games as I don't feel compelled to buy and play every decent game.

I try to keep my shelf to only 1 or 2 unplayed games, and when I finish them I go buy another 1 or 2 that I've had my eye on and take my time playing through them.

Games I miss out on I'll get to eventually during a gaming drought.

I also try to only play games that I'd rate at least a 8.0--and preferablly 9.0 or above--so that cuts down on my list of games to try out and when I get a game I don't end up liking I just quit playing and get rid of it and move on to the next game.

Thus I don't reallly care if a game is 10 hours long or 70 hours. I just play it, enjoy it, finish it whenever and move on to the next one.

lol if this game was less than 20 hours I WOULDNT buy it. I'd rent it instead... so ya thats true it BETTER be AT LEAST 20. You don't see many RPG type games under 20 hours...and I dont buy many if any games at full price if they're below 15. ...I can spend 45 bucks less and beat the game in one weekend if its only 10-15 hours...

This is cause most games don't have playability forever and many don't have decent multi anyway... and if you don't play online multi at all for consoles...

Some of the stats are just guesses as to how long it took and some are based on memory card playtime data. They may not be 100% accurate, but seeing as people are wanting to know generally how long it will take to beat a game, they are pretty good indicators.

You're right that it doesn't matter, since the idea of getting your money's worth out of playing a game is very subjective, it's just that I think you're wrong that the majority of games (again, non-rpg) offer 20 hours of gameplay. I would say that is actually the exception and not the rule.

For me, it doesn't matter all that much. I probably have around two hours of gaming time maximum each day (1 hour at lunch and 1 hour at night), so a 10-15 hour game can last quite a long time for me.

I came in here looking to talk about the next Mario platformer and have a good time, but I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Hmph.

Yeah, I just saw this today and I'm continuosly disappointed that Nintendo's PR just refuses to let people know more about their games and actually be able to know about what they're anticipating.

How long were you planning on discussing it though? If it wasn't 20 hours or more than it would probably be better if you took your business elsewhere, we don't need your kind around here.

Nintendo needs to release more. This is the next "big" Wii release that almost every Wii owner plans on getting day one. Why does nintendo NOT want people to know about this game? Its stupid, and only hurts customer relations.
