Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
Thanks for trying eliter, do you want to make a room and I'll try to join?
I tried joining your room as well. No go. Same for my friend in brawl or home run-contest.
I own Super Smash Bros Melee and have unlocked all the characters, all the modes, and all the levels save one. But for the life of me I can't unlock anyone in Brawl. I've faced
Luigi
5 times,
Marth and Falco
, and I have yet to win. I went into SSE to unlock some characters, and I hated it. It's incredibly boring and tedious. And the controls seem much more floaty and imprecise than Melee. I've never been more frustrated by a video game in my life. I never return or trade in anything, but I'm seriously considering doing that for Brawl.
I like melee better.
Control Wise.

Well according to good ol reliable gamefaqs board minus the stupid posts, the FC network is down for everyone it seems. I've been trying to join your games Snore and eliter1, but its not working.
I will get back in Panda.
Gimme a few min. I'm trying to unlock Jigglypuff. Stupid bastard. I swear CPU is harder than in Melee when it comes to unlocking them.

I set up another game, if people want to try and join while i get seomthing to eat, feel free. Just post any updates to the situation, maybe it will be back up soon.

I tried but it didn't connect.
VM - are you up for a game? want me to try and create a room or something where other CAG's can join? If they can join, I'm online but not in a room, can't join Boo's game apparently.
Had a room, seems no one could join.
I can't join any rooms right now.

CPU is harder. I almost lost to Wolf even knowing CPUs aren't to be taken lightly, I got screwed over from jigglypuff cause I thought it was going to be as easy as it was in melee.

rant: I hate the auto homing for the grappling hooks, it makes it completely useless now, I used to be the master at it with link.

We actually want the Wifi to be down as much as possible. 'Cuz then Nintendo would give us a free VC game.

Which will be Pinball, no doubt.

It's December 2007 on XBL all over again! Hooray! And people say Nintendo isn't trying to emulate the online capabilities of other systems.

In all seriousness, it's a free service and their servers are almost definitely being hammered right now by all of the people who bought the game over the weekend. I'm still expecting things to clear up as time goes on...but some more servers in the short term probably would be a good investment on their part.

Ya know, I LOVE this game. A lot. Maybe an unhealthy amount :(

But this overall feels kind of easier. I unlocked everyone and every stage in 2 days. Yes yes, I played nonstop. But I did with Melee and it took quite sometime to unlock everything. I don't like the fact that you get everyone just by playing through SSE. Yes yes, I know you can do Vs Matches. But it's not like other Smash games. Remember how to unlock Luigi in Melee? It was easy, but it was something different. Some characters you had to beat classic with everyone, or beat classic on a certain difficult w/o continuing. ETC. It almost feels kind of lazy :(

Now these Masterpieces make me mad. Such a great concept (and yes, even talking about them being 40 seconds - 2:30 demos. But there's like....7 games? C'mon now. Why isn't there a Sonic game? No Earthbound? There could be more games.

I really don't have many complaints about the game, really. With the new characters, I'm really not impressed. I do like Pokemon Trainer a lot..but that's it. Everyone else is pretty, meh. Maybe that damn Dojo site made the game even more then what it turned out to be. That's probably the "problem". Now before I get stabbed, I am NOT disappointed in the game at all. I just feel that the damn Dojo really made things seem alot better then what we got.

Time for bed, I'm rambling ;(

Might be now you are a better player than you were then. Played this with both my kids tonight all 3 of us had a blast and my 5yo has a knack for it. He came in first a few times

Good games Dragon_Master I told you I sucked! At least I finally won 1 game after like 20 tries haha! I hate one on one I don't know what i'm doing yet.... Damn newbs :D
Hey if Nintendo can clean it up and make it better and I lose a couple days of playing Brawl online, that is fine with me.
word. If it takes a bit to be smooth thats fine.

also Nintendo won't give us a free game since we don't pay for online, yet.

Probably not, Microsoft gives free games because most of its live users pay for a service and Nintendo doesn't. They probably wont feel obligated to give anything away.

I totally agree about the unlocking stuff. While I love the whole challenge board and I will probably complete it because smash bros is the one game where I feel I need to unlock as much as I can, getting new music or a trophy for doing some super hard or lengthy task is not a good compensation for me personally. Hell in melee it took me about 70+ hours of gametime to unlock all the stages and crap (damn you event 32). Yeah and the SSE thing kinda stinks too when I can beat that and get almost everyone, I wish it was different like melee.

Still overall, I

Son of a bitch was I late to this party, I added everybody up through Munk on post #185 and those who PMed me and I'm maxed out. PM me if you add me and I'll make sure you're on here or delete somebody.

I love the unlocking in this game. For a game thats mostly about multiplayer (yeah there's ton of SP modes, but who buys this game to play by themselves?) its nice to have the unlockables be relatively easy.

After half a day of playing SSBB, it feels sort of slow compared to melee. Just needed to adjust to it I guess, subspace emissary mode is soooo long (only 23% done so far). I do have to agree that the new characters are meh. Can't stand Meta Knight's and Pit's double jumps and when you double jump and press UP + B to recover...

I do miss Fox's combo in melee where you can grab an opponent, press down, and use the reflector shield.

I just added everyone up to Music on the front page, and Kaijufan. fuck, this reminds why I don't mind paying for XBL. I'll be adding the rest on the front page over time.

I think I was lagging in one of that games, I forgot who I was playing with, sorry about that. Hopefully I get a better connection next time I play

More people add me!

When I have 25 or so people on my friends list, and nobody is online, I have a problem!

(Plus, I haven't got into a single random match since buying the game...so I need more friends!)
I need more friends on my list, since random matches still don't work for me...
Me too. It's weird though, i have another 5 who added me, but it still says awaiting registration after a full day. Nintendo Wifi connection is a nintendont :(

You're right, you do need more friends.
WOW... 5 bombs... that was so wrong
LOL was that you? last kill would win it all and boom you exploded. :D I was first out in that match and cracking up when you exploded.

Good games everyone!

Rig i'll add you next time I get online. I've been playing for about 2 hours straight with several other CAGs didn't try tonight but last night strangers worked fine although they tend to not hang around for as many matches as CAGs.
BTW Rig, Good Games!
The first one, I had a lot of lag. :/
Thankfully it got fixed after that.
You too! You play a very nice Pit.

I personally think the majority of the things people are finding problems with don't amount to much more than simple nitpicks.

But that's neither here or there, because it's all opinionated.

It's probably also because I see everything merely as different. In other words, the fact that you can't air dodge in any direction now (and instead just in the direction you are following) forces a new set of rules and new tactics. Most people seem intent on harping this as making the game easier, but I think it just alters the way people are going to play.

If you think about it, it actually makes the game more strategic. Now instead of getting a dodge that can also change your direction, you've got to do it at a precise time, and don't get to rely on moving away from your opponent as a backup.

There are some things that I do think make the game more accessible (I don't like the "hold A for infinite attacks" stuff with certain characters, like Fox), but overall I think most of the mechanics are very well honed.

I also don't think it feels all that much slower. The game is still incredibly frenetic.

Finally, I really hope no one starts up with this "this game looks the same as the last one" nonsense, because that implies the wrong idea entirely and shows that the person making the statement isn't really paying attention. Are the graphics stepped up? Yeah. Are they completely upgraded ten fold? No. However, you should be paying attention to the animations, because those are all entirely reworked and look amazing.

Just watching a character do a charge up, and go through a series of frames with all those little jolts and shakes? Unbelievable.

That is where the graphics department is stepped up by an immeasurable degree - the animations. Smooth and very full of life. It's the same feeling I got when I saw Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast and thought everything was mindblowing.
You're right, you do need more friends.
Only if they play with items on!

I'll be sure to add you too, $hady.

To dovetail into this part of your comment, I'm amazed at the hair work. Sonic's mane and Peache's hair bounce or fly up if they are moving down or floating down. Its an impressive touch. I'm also impressed with who the graphics have been improved without drastically changing characters. Sonic looks like he could be taken from and XBL HD remake of one of his games.
