Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

I'm like 30-something percent through SSE and I am bored as fuck.

Also somewhat disappointed that you don't get different trophies for beating classic on eay, medium, and hard for each character.

It drives me nuts when developers overlook something like this. I know it's a complaint about something ridiculous, but you should get something for 100%.

It's never worked that way.
 
Phew, just spend 20 mins and 1200 coins in that damn coin launcher game. Even that is addicting as fuck, lol. I love collecting trophy's and then reading them.

The random match feature is just plain broken. I have been trying it since launch day. I get 3 people in and we wait forever for someone else to join and eventually someone gets disconnected or leaves. Whee.

So here I am spending time gathering and entering codes.

I got my copy in the mail today and I've really been enjoying it. SSE is ok. Some levels are a lot of fun, some seem to drag on too long.

I played about a dozen online matches with a friend and I had a really good time, but I couldn't connect to a "with anyone" online match, I would get some error (I think it started with an 8) and got kicked back to the main menu. :cry:

I don't think it does. Otherwise random people could do that and then kids would add them, which nintendo doesn't want happening

Finished SSE finally at around 82%

Toon Link + Star Wolf are all I have left to unlock. Though being a complete Smash Bros. n00b, I keep getting owned every single time I go up against those two. Bah!

Since Online Random matchmaking won't work worth shit for me since trying yesterday, I'm giving the friend list request a shot.

I think Toon Link managed to beat me twice. He's rather difficult.
 
Good matches, Ecofreak. Just glad I'm starting to get comfortable with someone, even if it's Lucas. :lol:

And hooray for being back to lag-free! Would have been able to try out some 4-person matches but people were joining too late I guess.

All my local friends were insanely good at melee so I lived years thinking I was the worst smash bros player ever.

edit: I think Ikhon won more matches anyway :)
 
I am a newb to the Smash Brothers games, and I honestly don't get it.

I have played many other fighting games and this just feels so random. It's like button mashing heaven with a hojillion items falling from the sky, and randomly falling off the map due to it scrolling around or floors dropping. I try standard fighting game things like blocking, then counter attacking and it just doesn't work. It ends up just being two people swinging madly. The smash attacks seem too slow to be useful (even when you don't charge them at all), and you just get hit by a normal punch.

I am still trying, but I really don't get the strategy, tactics, or appeal of this game.

This is my first Smash game, and while SSE certainly isn't like the multiplayer madness you'll get to later on, it gives you a nice intro not only to the character, but also how the mechanics play together, letting you get comfortable with things.
 
You'd have to turn items off and cut down on the crazy stages if you want to get it like a traditional fighter.

Spacing is a huge deal. Grabbing out of the shield is the basic counter attack, you can also attack out of a ground dodge.

Its competitive enough that people at the high levels concern themselves with things like frame data.

and the basic brawl stuff doesn't seem to work for alot of people, including myself. Seems like Nintendo is finding a "fix".

I have that there right now. It's just weird because it's Tom and not cheapwiigamer or anything close to that. Still was a blast. I'll be on later I think.
 
Good fights MATT and DASu (not sure what you're CAG names are, I've added quite a few people to my friends list, so I lost track). I must say, I really enjoyed the scuffles to obtain the smash ball :lol:

I love the ledge-hanging trick. I managed to kill one of you with that. Can't remember who though...

I'm avoiding online as much as possible, ideally I would like to entirely. Right now I'm trying to set up some Austin weekly in-person meetings with some people at Smashboards.
