so salty, i think someone still has an ice climber mallet shoved up their arse
The way I like it. Must be the bad memories of when I played as Fox and got pwned by the IC all the time.

I thought they were going to remove the Ice Climbers. Well, I guess some characters with hammers is better than more and more and more sword wielding ones.

I'm glad to see that the Ice Climbers are returning. They're one of my favorite characters to play as when I just want to mess around.
I'm telling you, they need to add the excite bike guy as a main character.
A year ago I would have called you insane. Now that Wario's Down B is a motorcycle, though, it wouldn't be too far fetched.

There's at lease a strong chance of bein' an assist trophy.

Hopefully this means that only the clones from Melee will be taken out or receive new movesets.

It'd be great if there were alternate costumes for characters though!
(Like a Dr. Mario costume for Mario instead of a separate character)
Finally Gamefaqs can shut up about "so and so isn't returning." I think this shows everyone will be back (ok minus gay clones like Pichu and Young Link).
YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH~!

In my heyday, I could dodge everything with Young Link. Sure, I couldn't attack worth crap, but still . . .

Also, whose to say that Young Link and Wind Waker Link (who is confirmed) won't be one in the same?
Also, whose to say that Young Link and Wind Waker Link (who is confirmed) won't be one in the same?
Really? When did this happen?
Really? When did this happen?
Can't remember, but i think it was a Japanese Radio Station a good long while ago. I'm sure one of the other guys could answer with better clarity.

Wasn't that "announcement" contained within the same rumor that said the Ice Climbers were cut?
Ice climbers are lame.
Quite the opposite, in fact. They need full use of their limbs in order to climb snow and ice covered mountains.

Jesus christ.

No no no no no.

This is the same bullshit rumor completely made up by someone at Gamefaqs. They tacked on a phony "Sakurai said this on the radio in Japan" story to give it credence.

How has this rumor persisted? I seriously have no idea. It was reported all over the place and continues to popup in various venues.

The comments about Bowser Jr., Ridley, and WW Link, as well as the comments about cutting Mr. G&W, Ice Climbers, and the supposed-clone characters (Pichu, Dr. Mario, Falco, etc) - are all false.

I'm willing to bet I've had to say these words on this site 4-5 times now, not counting a few other sites.

But it's all nonsense.

Ice Climbers were too good to throw out. At least their grab is top tier in my book. A free smash? come on...

And a word of advice... do not take anything on any form of internet message board seriously (even this one). There are too many rumors and claims that their mother's uncle's great grandfather's neighbor's dog said scooby doo will be in Brawl.

Now I'm curious as to whether the Brawl dev team got some well known/ranked Smash Melee players to test this game out (for sure they know the mechanics of the game by heart).

The answer is yes and I'll quote myself
QFT,

I recall an interview with the lead when he said he went into the studio Nintendo formed for him to meet with his new team to find out that the future developers had managed to play thousands, if not tens of thousands of Melee matches.

Brawl is being made by hardcore Smash Bros fans. I only hope that they manage to maintain the pick-up and play nature that made a round of Melee fun to play with someone who only knows Nintendo from its NES days.
I was referring to actual tournament players. It's understandable that the devs play thousands of games, I would expect that of people working on an incredible franchise. However, it'd be nice to see input from actual tourny (ranked) players, not that the devs can't possibly be of professional calibur. But those high ranked players aren't just up there for show, they've most likely spent as much if not more time playing Melee than one of those so called hardcore devs.

I just hope the game doesn't become something where every move gets a cutscene, even for something like Wario picking his nose.

It's pretty obvious many people have extremely high expectations for this game. I just hope Sakurai's team can meet at least most of them.

edit: another note, if I'm not mistaken, there haven't been any dominating Japanese SSBM players at any one time, so it'd be nice if Sakurai actually got some opinion from the States (I'm assuming harbors one of the bigger, if not the largest Smash fanbase). I mean, that poll they did a while back was pretty much for the Japanese fanbase, while the US fans were expecting a similar one (which never came).

Todays update, the Golden Hammer. From its humble beginings against barrels, to its one time use nature in Kid Icarus a hammer has been an object that Nintendo frequently enjoys to use.

One might say that Nintendo has made it a small p.r.o.j.e.c.t to include a hammer in all of its games as if they were nails...
*sigh*

Another "meh" update.

Here's hoping we get a big Character reveal for TGS!

*crosses fingers*
If there's going to be a "big reveal," then it will happen at TGS. So, for those still holding out hope for Sonic (myself included), I can't imagine it happening anywhere but at TGS. Nintendo would easily steal headlines from Sony with such a move.

Given Nintendo's history, you're setting yourself up for disappointment in thinking they'll do anything big anytime soon.

They are really set on this little-by-little process.

I'll be completely surprised if something big happens at TGS.

I bet this new item will lead to alot of "...i was at 450% damage while vs. giga bowser and then the golden hammer appeared and i d-d-defeated him!!!!" topics on gamespots ssbb boards

anyways, its seems sweet but limited times it'll show up - not so much

I'm more curious about the floating abilities of this item. Also, why are they including MORE button mashing?

Also, I love that fake video that is at the top of this page.
Nintendo never goes to TGS.

EDIT:
Erm wait, are they actually going this year?
It was announced that they would be there earlier this year but they apparently pulled out.

Supposedly Nintendo's having its own conference on the weekend of October 10th in Tokyo. If it's true I'll try to go!

Me too.

Sucks there won't be any record keeping, but oh well.
We can Smash online, we can Smash... online.

See you guys there.

Those opaque character icons next to the percentages are horrible. It pretty much guarantees that they've designed the levels such that no action takes place on the bottom section of the screen.
anyone notice the eggplant logo?

eggplant wizards as a playable character? probably.
Nah. It's just a logo for Pit. There's one for all game 'worlds'.
