Doh, I wonder what the update for Crackdown was for.... to enable Halo 3 Beta at a specific date?
 
Most people are looking forward to a black 360 because they want to buy it... I'm looking forward to it because the current core will have to be sold out since it won't be made anymore, and will probably get a nice price drop...

My 360 is broken, I have a bunch of accessories (Just not a HDD), all I really need is a new system, and im not paying MS 140 bucks to get it fixed, I'd rather get a new one

The "news" is exclusive, not that the news is about exclusive games.

My guess/sure bet is black 360. The other, I hope has to do with some Halo 3 news.
 
So it looks like I'll be getting whatever the "surprise" is, tomorrow after work. If I didn't have to be up by 6, I'd try to stay up and get it tonight.

Oh well, there's always the morning and have the console suhut off after its done downloading whatever needs to.

Edit: All that due to a 9:00 PM PST break on whatever the news is.

Aaah, this is driving me crazy. Nothing seems to be different or new or anything when logging back into Live. Hopefully it will be revealed later tonight. I hardly even noticed Live was down today, but since getting on here a little while ago, I was reminded and now really, really want to know what's going on. I'm out of breath...

If the beta goes up before midnight, and by up I mean that it is downloadable (not necessairly playable, as long as you can download the goods) and there is a set release date announced for it to be playable, I will give away a copy of Gears of War on CAG.

Reallydoh - I don't think it's going to be anything amazing because there's nothing they could announce, short of maybe MGS4, that would be a "!!!!!!!!!" surprise. What, they announce a more expensive model of the console that we already know is coming? We get a Beta we already paid for? Not saying those wouldn't be exciting, but it's highly unlikely that it'll be a true "surprise."

Heck, I'd actually be more happy if the two announcements were:

1. All GH1 tracks available for Guitar Hero 2 on day one.
2. CAMERA SUPPORT FOR TEXAS HOLD 'EM MO'fuckER! Oh YEAH!

I don't have a 360 (Stupid Wireless adapter; not kidding on that). You're talking about Elite and 360 as the 2 surprises, right? So, which comes first?

If Halo 3 comes first, I suspect XBL to be down 5 minutes after the announcement, if not sooner.

Talk about making a profit off of original adopters. I could trade in my 360 and add $180 and just get the new 360.

Wait. How are things going to be transferred from the 20gb hd to the 120gb hd?!

$300 trade-in, where? Sucks that I would want to transfer all my stuff FIRST to my new HDD...guess thats out of the question.
 
I swear if its just the Elite announcement.....fuck Major Nelson. He has to know that probably 95% of the gaming population pretty much knows its coming, so I don't see why he would call it a "surprise" versus say "an announcement"

i have heard rumors of a data transfer cable, that would be included with the new hdd or new elite system, but its just a rumor so far

I agree. If the Elite is the "major" announcement it will be a huge letdown unless it retails for less than the rumored $479. OR if there is a trade-up option for early adopters. Everyone already knows about this, and isn't really something that needs to be hyped. A simple press release during the day would suffice.

I also doubt it is the Halo 3 beta... at least tonight. All the people that are in via Bungie's methods need codes. Codes that have not been sent out yet. It would be unfair to let all the Crackdown users to get a jump on everyone else who got in on the Beta.

I'm thinking that maybe they did secure a couple exclusives. Maybe they locked down Rockstar for a GTA IV complete exclusive, or maybe MGS, FF, or some other high profile title. Partnering up or purchasing Capcom would also be huge. Those would be "major" announcements.

Well, that must be tonight's announcement as it's an Associated Press item. Worst kept suprise ever.
Hopefully (and probably), tomorrow we will get some Halo 3 details.

Notice that www.majornelson.com has nothing about a suprise announcement, probably to avoid negative feedback about this so-called "suprise".
 
$180 is way too much for a 120 GB hard drive. Newegg has this 2.5" 120 GB SATA 5400 RPM hard drive (the exact same kind as the 360 hard drive) for $85. Microsoft would buy hard drives in bulk so I'm sure they pay less for their hard drives.

Also, $179 for the 120GB HDD is fucking stupid. It's like they just want early adopters to unload their systems for the Elite.

As for me, I'm hoping the original units see some sort of price drop. That's why I'm excited for the new units.
 
179.99 for the HD is insane.

It's just a freakin SATA drive. Frys has a 500GB one every week for $140ish+tax. Even if the drive itself is a notebook form factor or whatever, the markup on this thing must be really high.


I'm hoping that the Black color will not be limited, and they'll offer a Black Core package for existing owners. Otherwise I will probably pass on the Elite...it'll mess up the color coordination with the HD-DVD drive anyway :)

I, for one, will not be buying a "360 Elite" at the outragous price of 479.99. They talk about technology changing and they can make parts cheaper now then 1 1/2 ago so why does the price go up by 80.00? I would buy an "Elite at 399.99 though.

I think if the price was 479.99 a lot of people would question, Upgrade my Current perfectly fine working 360 for an upgraded model with features you absolutly do not need.

Go out and buy a Brand New Console in the Playstation 3. Pretty Close Price ranges now.
 
It seems like they are punishing the people who have already bought a XBox 360. Yet the people who have yet to buy one can buy one with HDMI capabilities and with an extra 100 GB of hard drive for only $80 more.
