"Surprise Sony Sequel" going to be announced on Gametrailers TV (Thursday)
Didn't Sony file a website from Motorstorm 3 a few days back? It could be that.
I have a feeling it will be Motorstorm 3
I'm disappointed, but glad for the fans.
yep same here its like christmas hype and all you get is socks........
Nothing ever wrong with new socks
there is when youre hoping for a playstation lol. or in this case hoping for some news on a new sly cooper game.

OK on one hand I like the new announcement and I'm glad that Zipper is back at the helm to making a Socom again. But on the other hand I'm bummed that Sony probably won't ever release a sequel to the old classics that made the PS1 so popular, at least not for a while.

Socom is the greatest franchise owned by Sony. Forget GOW3, Ratchet & Spank, etc. Nothing can make money for Sony like Socom. Socom is home to the most long-standing fans of any PS series. Many were like myself and bought a PS3 just for Socom, and it still averages more players a night than K2 or Uncharted2 after release 18 months ago. Zipper are also kings of console online, look at S2 lobby systems. Its gonna be an amazing game with the best MP on consoles, no doubt about that

I'm sorry, but SOCOM as a whole has sold roughly 12 million copies worldwide between 9 games. God of War has sold about 8.5 million copies worldwide between 4 games and that figure doesn't include God of War 3. Yes, SOCOM is popular, but it's fanbase is rather small compared to other series. I think SOCOM 4 will be a good gauge of just how popular the series still is. All I know is that MW2 has about 400,000 people on at any given time during the week and quite a bit more on the weekends.
What does this mean for MAG then?
They already said like 20 times they won't stop supporting MAG. Seriously, it's in the blog post.

Ugh, what a waste. We could have gotten a good game, instead yet ANOTHER cookie cutter shooter. Lame and more lame... Oh well, hopefully E3 will bring us better news.

Congrats on judging a game you know nothing about.

and they're making that very clear. They've responded to 4 comments regarding dropping MAG support as that being very false.

I'm really getting tired of FPS games. On well, good for the Socom fans. Hopefully Gran Turismo 5 comes out this year next to Socom 4. I never played Socom, so maybe if I see some footage and gameplay I will see if I am interested or not.

Socom isn't a FPS.

SOCOM is quite different than most FPS in feel (not to mention it isn't FPS). With Zipper back on board... definitely give it a shake if it looks like it is shaping up.

Hopefully it'll look a lot better than MAG visually speaking. I'm not graphics whore, but the visuals were a bit of a let down for that game. I understand it's because it was an online game with bigger maps and such, so things should be better for SOCOM 4

I thought it was an FPS, My mistake. I am getting tired of games were all they do is give me a gun, a team, then kill marked targets though. I just have to see how this turns out and see whether I am interested or not.
I'd rather have Twisted Metal.
Same here. We got a new Twisted Metal when PS2 came out, wheres our PS3 version?
Thank god....a Zipper made Socom is one of the main reasons I bought a PS3... Confrontation was a HUGE letdown
Really? Confrontation felt more like a return to home to me. Granted I haven't played any of the psp socoms but after Socom 3 and MAG I've lost any interest in a zipper made game.

It's still a stupid shooter, doesn't matter if it's first person or third person. The genre is flooded, stagnant, and inferior when it doesn't support M/KB. I don't see how people want yet more of these.
Didn't they say Jaffe was making Twisted Metal? I bet they'll announce it at this years e3.
Yes, it's pretty much been confirmed. There was even a cryptic codes in Eat Sleep Play's debut release "Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted edition" that revealed ""Twisted Metal is coming on PSThree".

it's the most popular genre in the US, and will remain so for years to come. considering all the retarded RPGs they constantly flood the market with, the more shooters they make, they'll eventually release some good ones worth buying.

I was skeptical, considering the last SOCOM release for the PS3, but after seeing those screen shots, I would love to see how it pans out.

The last SOCOM was made by Slant Six, this is being made by Zipper who has made the best games from the franchise. I don't think those are actual screenshots to be honest, they look kind of touched up or something.

Um, most people don't have a damn choice. Sure if you own a Wii or PS3 you'll find some variety, not that either are safe from the shooters. But if you're unfortunate enough to have gotten stuck with a 360 then that's pretty much it other than sports and a couple racing games.

Large numbers doesn't save them from being lame though. They don't change from one another, if you've played Doom, Quake, and UT, then you've played them all. Am I right? Of course. I guess I'm just disappointed that they keep coming despite the need for original games or good a series making a comeback.

what in the fuck are you on about?

1. You're talking trash on a system that has the best online community for a console. Period.
2. Doom isn't even what started it all. It's a little game called Wolfenstein. Ever heard of it?
3. The Wii has more shit games than the DS. I should know. I have one.
4. If the best selling game is a shooter, it's safe to say they'll make at least 10 more this year.
5. You say "original", then proceed with an oxymoron like "a series making a comeback"

As you can see in my five point bulletin, you and your avatar should remove yourself from this thread

Wolfenstein isn't the one that took off and spawned a trillion clones, Doom is. If we're going by just the first FPS, that isn't Wolfenstein, either.

God damn the hate is strong with everyone over Socom.

One one side you have the uninformed saying Confrontation is shit so why would they make another? Oh idk, because Zipper didn't fucking make that pile of trash.

On another side you have people saying they don't want another generic shooter. Well fuck you then. Socom has always been one of the most competitive online games I've ever played, only rivaled by some highly competitive games on PC. This isn't silly respawn TDM like CoD, Socom's online is epic.

And for all of you saying you don't want another FPS. Just shut the hell up. Get it right first, it's a TPS, Third Person Shooter. You guys are probably the same people that talk trash on this, and in the same fucking breath display an act of weaboism and drool over the latest RPG. It goes both fucking ways.

And one last thing. Sorry for my rant. I'm just ecstatic Zipper is making a true next gen sequel to our beloved series and I'll be damned if anyone's going to bring me down from this high.

this is taken from Wikipedia

"...The genre coalesced with 1992's Wolfenstein 3D, which is generally credited with creating the genre proper and the basic archetype upon which subsequent titles were based."

dare I say BLOW!

I dare

I don't know how FPS games got thrown into a discussion about SOCOM. SOCOM has always been the epitome of console competitive gaming in my eyes. The game just demands so much skill that nothing else could come close to.

The people dissing it obviously don't know very much about it and probably take Confrontation as the definition of it. Confrontation changed everything good about the series and I wish it was never made. Zipper getting their hands back on it is a great thing.

That being said, damnit Sony, where is The Legend of Dragoon 2? This is bullshit!

This is THE ONLY truly informed Socom fan I have seen on these boards outside of the Clan

Also from Wikipedia:

"Following the release of the influential Doom in 1993, games in this style were commonly termed "Doom clones";[6][7] in time this term has largely been replaced by "first person shooter".[7] Wolfenstein 3D, released in 1992, the year before Doom, is generally credited with inventing the genre, but critics have since identified similar though less advanced games developed as far back as 1973"

No, just no.

Oh fail. I was hoping for something remotely interesting to be announced and I hid away from most news today so I can watch it on GTTV. Too bad it was a HORRIBLE(x4) trailer for Socom 4, which I thought was already out... isn't there a PSN Socom? Why the hell do we need this?

Oh well. E3 wait time...
