Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2
Yeah, I definitely thought the movie would be up your alley:D;)

The movie was excellent. I really hope it doubles/triples its budget because I demand sequels.

Also, they already announced the DVD? Where? I'm really interested now. Sounds kind of Sin City-esque, which was on Spike late last night and which I watched for the 5000th time.
There was a quote on the wiki page about the DVD. All the info I actually have.

I just got back from Kick Ass and god damn was this movie terrible there was maybe two scenes that were worth a damn and the rest was just an abomination and yet i'll never understand hollywood and its need to change and shit over everything in its way in order to put in some stale happy ending it just makes me want to vomit much like this entire movie

I rented the Informant with a free coupon for the heck of it, ended up enjoying it a great deal. I'd definitely like to own it now, which defeats the purpose of having used my coupon on it!

The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang - It's like Napoleon Dynamite but with two of the greatest antagonists in film history. Zerk and Shirts.

Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan - Pretty easily my favorite Star Trek movie. Kirstie Alley (spelling?) is pretty hot as a Vulcan. It's almost a straight forward war movie. Surprisingly, I kept being reminded of Das Boot.
Yeah I got it already ;)
Same here, minus the reading part. Replace that with TV. I've been hankering to start reading again though. I always like going back to Thoreau.
el Topo is winners!

The Box -- I need Richard Kelly's contact info quickfast, he always has the right set pieces, capable actors, somehow after Donnie Darko his movies just cross a line into weird for no reason. Like in a NOT COOL el Topo fashion.

Splinterheads- Nice lil surprise of a movie, silly, predictable, but the characters kept me going til the credits.

The stoners were the best part, hands-down.

Moon - Like space didn't creep me out enough already. My only complaint was that I was hoping for more scares. Credit for not doing a couple things that I thought were surely going to happen.

The Crazies - I liked it. The infected werent over the top and stuff i assumed was going to happen didnt but a bunch of plot holes and magical rules kept me from thinking it was really good. Best zombie genre movie ive seen in a while though.

The Losers - Looks like they are finally doing comic movies right. Very lovable cast and good action for a PG-13 film. Looking forward to the sequel.

Brothers - Eh. It was okay. I could tell that the acting was quality but for some reason, I just wasn't all the compelled to see what happened next. Worth the free borrow from the library but not much more.

The Men Who Stare at Goats was a big pile of meh. Slightly funny, but not very memorable. Luckily, later on I watched Gangs of New York which was really great. I can't believe I haven't watched that before now.

^ Daniel Day Lewis was fucking flawless in Gangs Of New York. If him and Brendan Gleeson were not in it, I think it probably would have tanked harder than it unfortunately did.

Sinful Dwarf - 3/5 - Film was originally called 'Abducted Bride' but later changed the title to Sinful Dwarf. Supposedly this film is 'disturbing' because there is a weird/creepy midget that lures young girls into his home with toys. He then pumps them full of heroin and prostitutes them out of the attic. Okay I guess it is a disturbing concept but man what a hysterical movie.

Sinful Dwarf is simply amazing. Whenever the dwarf is on screen it is so damn funny. Pretty much anything he says or does is so over the top creepy & weird it makes it funny. The first 10-15minutes of the film are a riot. There is a TON of nudity in the film which is why I guess its an exploitation film. Let me say that Sinful Dwarf is definitely not for everyone. Unless you are a deviant like my friends and I - I would not recommend watching Sinful Dwarf.

If you are into old weird/sleazy films there is nothing else like Sinful Dwarf. Sinful Dwarf is the film that defines 'dwarfsplotiation' and a film you will never forget.

Nightmare on Elm Street - 2/5 - About 10 minutes into Nightmare on Elm Street you know exactly what you are getting into. Awful writing & jump scares galore. Nightmare does entertain but it was more laughing at the film rather than with it. The writing for 'Chris' and her 'mom' who looks more like a step sister, was hysterically awkward. The movie is about Freddy and he does have some cool moments where he jams his fist through a guys chest but also has bad moments where he scratches metal objects and sparks are flying like he has sparklers attached to his glove.

You get some of the classic Nightmare moments with the bed scene and boiler room . The story progressed pretty well and kept me interested in seeing how they would unravel it.
It would have been interesting to see the film end with Freddy being innocent but I am guessing they didn't want you rooting for him.....sadly I wanted him to murder the stupid kids.
Overall the film is a lot like most of the horror remakes. You first hate the thought of them remaking your film, they announce something new that gets you interested and believe it could be pretty decent, and once you watch the film they choose to give Jason Voorhees a pot farm or Freddy sparklers.

Anyone else notice the penis art/people that Nancy, the mumbler, had on her bedroom walls & in the Den? I couldn't stop laughing at those things. Why the hell did she mumble for the first half of the movie UGH!

^ Honestly, I think the Texas Chainsaw remakes will never be beat. They managed to capture the feel of the originals and didn't sacrifice anything. I suppose the same can be said for the Dawn of the Dead remake.

I just finished watching Forbidden Planet. I was wary of renting it from Netflix, since it was made in 1956, but I am really glad I ultimately ordered it. Forbidden Planet still holds up to this day, even after 54 years. I thought the special effects were great, the story was awesome, and the acting was pretty good. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys science fiction movies.

I can't stand the Dawn of the Dead remake. The Texas Chainsaw ones were not bad however they made it so people actually thought it happened in real life. (I'm so tired of explaining to people how it's based off Ed Gein and there was no family of cannibals) Another problem I have with them is they gave Leatherface an actual name. I liked how the original didn't give too many details and you just have this guy wearing a dead skin mask(which is why leatherface was based off Ed Gein who also had various pieces of flesh he would wear) chasing people with a chainsaw.

Norman Bates Psycho is also based on Ed Gein along with Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

Sling Blade - Pretty meh. I was bored for most of it. It had it's good parts but I'd never watch it again. 2:28 was way too long for that movie.

Ah crap I forgot about Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I honestly dont remember much from the remake w/ Jessica Biel. I do remember the one with Jordana Brewster who I adore. I didn't care too much for the Dawn of the Dead remake. Ken Foree > Ving Rhames. Tbh when I wrote that last night I completely overlooked those films. Thanks for reminding me of the decent remakes, just been getting too many bad ones the past few years.

Raging Phoenix, Jeeja Yanin's second movie. I was skeptical of the whole b-boy dancing mixed with fighting aspect, and it does come off a bit corny at times, but on the whole the choreography was pretty creative. The end fight scene was legitimately kick-ass. I'd consider it a step above Chocolate.

The Messenger - goddamn why havent I heard of this movie before? gripping performances by ben foster and woody harrelson. This shit was so tuff and heartbreaking to watch. Maybe it hits close to home cause I was in the military for 10 years.

A Prophet. Was very good, but I came a way a tad let down as the reviews had my expectations to high. But still a damn good movie.

The Lovely Bones--had the opposite affect. Reviews were pretty crappy so I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing mind blowing, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Um. Which "The Messenger" are you thinking of?

'Cause I get the feeling you're not talking about that shitty Joan of Arc one...

Just talking about it makes me nauseated. I hear they actually screen that now on Saturday nights at Guantanamo for recreation time.

I think you're nuts about the Texas Chainsaw remakes. The original looks like a fucking snuff film and the jarring soundtrack + near-constant screaming and/or roar of the chainsaw gives me a headache. By the end of the movie, I feel like I've been chased by a family of killers.

In other news...

Avatar - Bleh. Seriously. Look, here's the thing. If you're going to pour millions of dollars into crafting a movie, why not throw some nuance into the mix? I love a pop movie as much as anyone but it hurts my soul when one wins a slew of awards. Dances with Wolves in space indeed.

Ong Bak 2 - Pretty good fight scenes but not Tony Jaa's best. He's more impressive barehanded but he spent most of this movie using something. The plot was... I think partially lost in translation. Still, unlike Avatar, it didn't portray every member of a tribe/species/race as behaving 99% identically.

Maybe it's my fault for pretty much just watching the fight scenes (too little free time), but I think I had more fun watching the original Ong Bak. It just felt more real, like all the stuntmen were crippled for a month afterward; the polish on 2 kind of killed it for me.
