Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

Winter Bone - 7/10

I don't think I ever understand "wiskey tango people or their life"... Only saw this because of Jennifer Lawrence in X-men.

I saw The Hangover Part 2 today. Late to the party I know. I really liked it. You may be wondering why I seem so positive on it and that's because I never saw the first movie. Everything was new to me so I would easily recommend it for someone who was in the same boat as me and missed Part 1.
My favorite character by far was the one played by Zach Galafanckahakiwhatevrhisnameis.

Black Death

4 Stars

I caught this on Netflix Instant. Much better than I would have expected. The acting is great. The characters are interesting. The story is familiar, but a few minor twists make it feel new enough to not bore you. If you like violent medieval action, and a gritty realistic take on magic/superstition, you'll like this.

The Prestige.
I only watched it because it had both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman in it.
It turned out to be a better movie than I thought it would be. :D
Black Death is a really great movie. Very underrated.
I'd say that for pretty much all of Christopher Smith's films.

Watched Battle: Los Angeles with my wife last night and we enjoyed it. It had a fairly realistic portrayal of the military. Great popcorn flick.
Also caught Thor and Xmen First Class recently and really liked both. This Xmen movie was a surprise after The Last Stand. I had no interest in First Class until hearing some of the positive buzz. I like how Bryan Singer and the other writers kind of pretended The Last Stand never happened.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

4 Stars

The Green Lantern equivalent of Batman: Gotham Knight. It's a series of interconnected short stories that sort of layout the Green Lantern mythology for those that aren't familiar. Definitely great to watch before seeing the new Green Lantern movie. It is surpisingly violent, probably the most violent DC animation I've seen. I guess it's ok to show people be literally ripped apart, as long as their blood is purple, green, blue (... anything but red).

PS. For all of you geeks, Nathan Fillion is the voice of Hal Jordan. Enjoy. ;)

X-Men: First Class

3 Stars

Almost 4 stars, but was held back by some poor character/acting choices. Isolating First Class from the other X-Men films, the movie is very good in itself. It is surprisingly the most mature of the movies, which is ironic since it has the youngest cast. The story is coherent (which can't be said for X3). The action is pretty enjoyable, but not as good as X2. Magneto (actor and character) was probably the highlight for me.

The bad. The timeline makes no sense in the X-Men movie universe. Havok is Cyclops' YOUNGER brother. Why is he 16(?) years old in 1960? The same applies to the very quick cameo of Storm (if you saw it). I guess Halle Berry is 60+ years old the earlier X-Men movies?

The (horribly inaccurate) backstory with Mystique and Xavier was good, but makes no sense in relation to X-Men movies 1-3. I would excuse all of the above if they treated this movie as a standalone story, but they intentionally tied it to previous X-Men movies.

The movie would have been an easy 4 stars if the writers/producers put a little more thought into how the movies tied together. And, while January Jones is obviously an attractive blonde woman, that doesn't make her Emma Frost. White Queen was one of my biggest disappointments. Such a great character ruined by such a generic performance.

Mad Max - Like probably everyone else in the world outside of Australia, I saw The Road Warrior before this. The last of the V-8 Interceptors indeed. Pretty good and looks appropriately beaten down for a world on the brink of armageddon. I really dig the old 70s Australian vehicles all over the place, from the motorcycles, to the cars, to the ancient trucks, I don't know if it was intentional but the film is very consistent.

Men of Honor - The story of the Navy's first black diver. I had seen bits and pieces of it over the years. Pretty good story although from what I've read, they embellished parts of it where I don't think they needed to. Still, it's better than Snow Dogs (I assume).

This was a reboot that took a few arguably major liberties. If there are tie-ins, it's for fanboys, not continuity. I believe Havok was changed to be Cyclops' father in First Class.

I'm pretty sure this is a standalone title as far as the Marvel movie franchise is concerned.

I don't think the tie-ins were fanservice. If they were, that would make even less sense. Also, if Havok was supposed to be Cyclops' father, I missed that completely.

That's what I want to believe, and is what I had expected when I sat down in the theater. I consider X-Men Origins: Wolverine to be a standalone movie (thank gawd). But Wolverine had minimal (if any) intentional references to the other X-Men films. First Class is riddled with them.

If they intended for First Class to be a standalone/reboot/etc. they did a horrible job of it. Failing to define a movie to the audience is a greater sin than than simply screwing up the timeline.

The plot of the movie seemed fine to me, it stands alone quite well.

They could go that route or they could just write it off as Cyke being born on a Starjammers ship with his dad in space. Thus returning him to Earth at a much later date, and besides, Mutants do age differently than humans depending on powers.

However, just because he is Cyke's brother doesn't mean the continuity is thrown out of wack. Who cares, it was still a great movie.

Agreed. Overall, the best X-Movie to-date, which is a big success in itself since it's the 5th(!) in the franchise. I don't think any fifthquel could say that.
You know who also stands alone? Godsmack. Sorry, couldn't resist. Been playing too much Prince of Persia.
... lol what?

EDIT: I just googled "prince of persia godsmack" and now that makes sense. I was kind of hoping you were just nuts and saying random thoughts.

Green Lantern 3D - 2.5/5 - I have a feeling that summer movie goers who don't read comics will enjoy this movie, but the comic fan in me was let down. A man can only handle so much Ryan Reynolds. It had its great parts, but the negative stuff far outweighed it. The best part comes out the
Sinestro dawning the yellow ring and becoming a fucking yellow lantern

Good one!

El Mariachi 9/10 Wow, it was like watching a Hong Kong movie from that same period! I went in thinking it would be like Clerks rough, but for slightly over 7Gs, it's damn well made.

^ That movie was badass. Rodriguez donated blood and volunteered as a medical test subject to earn enough money to fund it. The side effects of the medical experiments caused him to make Spy Kids.

Bitch slap - 8/10

Wow, go no expectations. So bad it loops back to awesome. LMAO! Def9niteky a watch once only movie...

Edit:

FUEL - 10/10

Always like these kind of documentaries. Wish people actually watched them.

- 9/10 This movie will divide the people because it requires a certain investment from the viewer. It's both a slice of life and broad abstractions of the tribulations of growing. It is very similar to the way the trailer presents the movie so if anything, go by that.

Muay Thai Giant

This is on netflix instant and it's very funny! I laughed out loud so many times because it is so ridiculous. Big ass white dude with two small thai girls. Really, it's not what you're thinking. If you've seen Power Kids, it's the same girls and the fight scenes are quite good. It's a real gem in netflix instant q.

Monsters Inc. - so good on blu ray
Only Yesterday (well half of it)
Monsters Inc is one of my fav movies ever. We just put the Blu Ray on our Instant Que for this weekend. Hopefully it makes the difference you say it does!

Wienergate Living Large, made for tv movie. Not bad but too much tasteless full frontal nudity in just too many scenes. Looking forward to the director's cut though.
How was that?
I'd also like to know. :?:

I wish people would stop listing movies and actually give a little input.

Went on a Sean Bean binge the last few days. Watched Ca$h, Black Death, Bravo Two Zero, and Lord of the Rings. Ca$h and Black Death are great movies and I enjoyed them very much. They are both on Netflix right now as well so go check them out.

The dude is a great actor. I'd like to see him in a leading role in an oscar-worthy film at some point.

Sanctum - 2/5 - Unintentionally funny movie. The CG was pretty bad of the cave, not sure if it was because of me watching it in 2d and not 3d but the CG was on par with some crap I seen on USA. The green screen events looked pretty awful especially at the start of the film. I don't even know what to compare it to, it just looked extremely out of place and reminded me of some bluescreen effects that never worked well. What saves the movie is the humor. You get some hysterical one liners from Mister Fantastic. The writing allows you to easily make fun of Sanctum like a syfy monster film. The writing for Sanctum is on par with said syfy movies. I guess I was surprised how poorly written and bad cg throughout the movie. The scale of the cave really falls flat in 2d. Even if I watched the movie in 3d and found all the cg 'cool' the humor came from the acting, practical effects(dead bodies), and writing which still makes this movie a joke.

I thought that movie was sad as fuck. Felt depressed for hours after watching it.
