Tales of Vesperia - Gen. Discussion & Info
I have Tales of the Abyss, haven't opened it yet. Should I play that instead of this?
Yes. Vesperia's demo looks awesome but the combat feels weird. Abyss, if you can handle the loading times, is up there with Symphonia. Great combat and good graphics.

The combat is terrible in the demo.. My teammates were stupid even when I switched their commands.. they stood still half the time and let themselves get hit -_-

Why does soundtrack says volume 1? I doubt their music take no more then one disc considering the game itself composes more data(like graphics, music, programing). Even with it's high quality rip and compression, it doesn't take no more then one disc unless they dump it on cd.

Is this an indication that other Tales like games coming out this year such as Tales of Symphonia will come out with limited edition as well to commemorate it's 10th anniversary?

I broke down and put down ten at Gamestop to preorder this. I love the Tales games, and have a feeling this one will be no different.

Thanks for the link. If it's not available at GameStop when i go down today, i'll mist likely get it at Amazon.

First review is in: Official Xbox Magazine gave it an 8.5. The Metacritic blurb for that review says all of "Incredibly satisfying.". If anyone has access to this mag I'd appreciate a better summary ;).

GF preordered from Amazon so it'll likely be the first week of Sept. when she gets it...this is the first game she's actually bought for herself since we purchased the 360 back last April (2007). So obviously she's looking forward to this game.

Famitsu - 35/40
Hardcore Gamer - 4/5

Official Xbox Magazine - 8.5/10 (Page 82)

I have the latest OXM at home. If no one posts it up by the time I get home, I'll try to paraphrase it for you io.

Edit - Here is a blurb from the OXM website. It's from 2 months ago and isn't the same review, but it has some info.
Damn you Brady.
Brady strikes again!

On a more serious note, I just bought Eternal Sonata (better late than never) and when I finish it I'm going to get Tales of Vesperia. It looks great.

I have a weird history with this game. First, it looked awesome and i planned on getting it. That was kicked into high gear when they announced the premium edition.

Then the demo came out and I tried to play it 6 times, which included deleting it and re-downloading it. Each time it froze and crashed my system. No other game or demo has ever done that. So, I didn't get to even try the game. So, I took it as a sign (i watch too much "my name is earl") and decided to not get the game.

But, it's out next week. And, it looks good. And the initial reviews are good. Every thing in the IGN review screams the kind of game I like to play. So, i just ordered it from gamestop.

I'm such a whore for JRPG's and special editions. sigh.
So far the only bad news is that the game guide doesnt have any maps at all. Damn you Brady.
Thanks for the info. Gamefaqs it is.

That's crazy.

that and no online co op..

Even though I honestly can't comprehend how that would have worked..but it did sound neat. @_@

Oh well.. time to 1k Too Human before Wednesday when this comes out.

and to add salt to the wound amazon isnt shipping the guide till Sept 23. I hope thats a typo as gamestop already has the guide.
Is the Premium Edition going to be limited?
Odds are yes, since stores like GS or GC probably will get maybe 2 in, Im saying yes.

I want this for sure, but a week or so later Infinite Undiscovery comes out, and I don't want to play two RPGs at once, so I'm not sure if I should just grab Vesperia, or wait for IU to get reviewed and then choose one.

Does the limited edition only come with a soundtrack? I guess I have been spoiled by other companies giving soundtracks away for free, but hardly seems worth the extra bucks for a metal case and a CD.
I flipped through the guide today.. not very helpful..
I am still seriously looking forward to this game. I love the tales series.

I was kind of in the same boat, but I decided on the advance reviews that I'd play Vesperia. IU being a Squeenix production it will be easy to get later (and hopefully cheaper). While Vesperia may very well become bargain bin fodder like Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata (to a degree) it is also likely to be a fairly limited run and get semi-hard to find like Abyss (which, though on clearance a few places was always worth retail or a bit more on eBay). Or maybe it will be like Legendia - another fairly common bargain-bin game. I dunno. In any case I only need one right now and that means I'll wait for a deal on the other.

I just finished Tales of the Abyss a few days ago, and while I'm interested in this game, I just don't want to start another 50 hour RPG right now (plus I just started Okami). I think I'll wait for a price drop.
I'm assuming the 4-player Co-Op is single system only and not online, correct?
correct

Well Gamestop wouldn't let me preorder the LE of Tales "because it wasn't in their system." Will BB, CC, or GC get this or am I screwed?

I haven't heard what stores (if any) will get the LE. However you can still order off Amazon with free shipping so you're not offically screwed.

Thanks that's what I did.

It was too late for me to switch my GC preorder from the regular to the CE on the weekend (game comes out too soon) but they said they would hold a CE for me if they get one in. We'll see...

Ok what I wanna know is whether or not Vesperia has co op like Eternal Sonata did. That will seal the deal if so, because I was actually able to get my GF to play eternal sonata with me.

She actually took over and beat the game on her own which is a shocker because neither of us are into the JRPG's much.

the co op in tales games is a lot better than the coop in eternal sonata

Anyone get the game yet? I ordered from gamestop.com w/ SAVER. I hope i get it by the weekend, but that's probably wishful thinking.

Ordered from Amazon...says it won't ship until Sept. 2nd :(

The recent Tales games I've played have been better than the recent Final Fantasies.

Abyss and Symphonia were more deserving of the 9.0 range than FF X, XI or XII.

I don't know about Legendia but the character designs put me off.

I think in Eternal Sonata, you have to wait for your turn to do anything. So players are only going one at a time.

In Tales you just go nuts.
