Tales of Vesperia is coming to PS3; demo on JP PS Store
I'm now even more glad I never made it to the end of Eternia.
I loved Eternia, and oddly enough Chat wasn't annoying. She is a playable character but you could go through the entire game without using her. I dragged her out once just to see how she played, her on screen appearance was only limited to a few cutscenes.

The Fortress in ES was pretty craptastic. Not to mention the horrible voice acting, non-sensical story and repetitive gameplay.
If it comes to ps3 then I'm buying. Can anyone uber confirm those scans?
Everyone's talking about it. Confirmed for Japan right now. Import it, and move on.

no reason to get a 360 anymore. I was just going to probably borrow it and a copy since that's what all my friends tend to do with the 360 anyways. Get the console and just copy everything. The ones that don't care about live are the most prone to copy on that console.

We don't know if it's coming to America... even though I'll have beaten it by the time the PS3 version comes out, I still might pick it up. The Sony controller is much better for me.
We don't know if it's coming to America... even though I'll have beaten it by the time the PS3 version comes out, I still might pick it up. The Sony controller is much better for me.
Yeah, that's the only trick. While the 360 version in NA had the "Only on 360" stamp on it, several other games did and still came to PS3 (like Lost Planet, NG2, BioShock, and Enchanted Arms).

While you'd think Namco Hometek would pass on ToV after how Eternal Sonata sold on PS3 in the states (which was pretty bad), they already have most of the English translation already done for ToV, so it's not like it would cost them much extra to release the PS3 version stateside. What held back ToS on PS2 back was Nintendo paying for English translation and stuff. That's the only question now, but we will not know until around the time it comes out in Japan (They once said ES wasn't coming stateside, but then changed).

I think it all depends on whether or not Namco Bandai got money from Microsoft for the translation or dubbing. If they didn't, NB would be throwing away money on a PS3 version depending on the cost to print it.

To those talking about Eternal Sonata, I'm playing it right now. I'm 30 hours in Chapter 6. It's not the greatest JRPG ever but it's pretty good. The only real weakness is the long cutscenes which lack the intrigue that MGS4 and Xenogears have. I'm glad that this game was brought to the PS3 and I'm hoping we'll see Tales Of Vesperia in the fall The Tales series is actually my 3rd favorite RPG series after Square-Enix's Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. I've beaten Symphonia, Legendia and The Abyss. Vesperia and White Knight Chronicles will hold the fort for FFXIII.

Here's something interesting I found in ToV:

In Port Capua Torim Lighthouse, there is a drawer with a "woman's pirate hat" in it. The name on the hat that reads "Pa...". I am not very far into the game, but this seems like it's the new character Patty Fleur's.

We can't be sure how much work would have to go into translating the new stuff right now. They would probably need to bring back some of the voice actors to record new audio for conversations with Patty. Also you have to think of how well previous games in the series have sold. And one last thing to take into consideration is the new Tales game for the Wii. I could see them passing on the port and choosing to bring the new game over instead.
ToV was supposedly the best-selling Tales since Symphonia, so perhaps the chances of the PS3 version showing up here are good.
I could have sworn TotA sold close to around 200k eventually (which is almost double ToV stateside), but I know for a fact TotW PSP, ToP GBA, and ToL did pretty bad.

I know ES had a lot of new dialogue added, and that didn't stop them from bringing it stateside. I have a gut feeling the pirate girl won't add much to the story (like most new characters do). But we'll see, but so far it seems like ES added more, and it still came stateside.

If I remember they also made reference to Aifread in ToV. He was some legendary Pirate from from both Syphonia & Eternia, not sure if he appeared in other Tales games.

Actually, Dawn of the New World is the best selling Tales game since Symphonia. The US sales killed that of Vesperia's here.

Good call, I was going by an old post in the sales thread.

hmm i've only ever played Tales of symphonia...Do the tales games connect in any way or are they just separate stories?

Some do, but Vesperia doesn't.

This is exciting news....here's my story: Have a 360, in perfectly working condition. But, the only game it won't play is ToV, for whatever reason. I've tried everything, M-soft didn't have a clue. So, I've never played the game.

I'm getting a PS3 later this year (Masters degree graduation gift from my wife), so if this game comes stateside, I'll finally be able to play it!! And, probably an enhanced version to boot. Nice.

Releasing: This Fall
-Enhanced port of the 360 game "Tales of Vesperia.
-Has numerous changes/additions:
*New logo
*New character, Patty Fleur, voiced by Chiwa Saito.
*New boss
*New Hi Ougi/Mystic Artes
*New story scenes
*New side quests
*Fully voiced
*Lots of other new voiced content
*New animated scenes
*New costumes
*Content in movie to tie in with the game
I assume that releasing this fall means in Japan only or North America as well?
I don't expect we'll know for a while. Outside of ToV, not a single Tales game got a U.S. announcement until near release or after release, in Japan. Eternal Sonata got no U.S. release announcement until E3 of last year.

Well if we go that far, it doesn't bode well on releasing here based on past Tales games that have been re-released (and already brought to America once) with 'new content'.

Here's to hoping though for PS3 users.

It looks like we'll be able to use Flynn? Interesting if so.

Edit: or maybe not :p
No US release date yet? Guess I'll hang onto my 360 copy and play that eventually.
Like I said, Namco probably won't make an announcement for a bit. They even once said they had no plans of bringing Eternal Sonata stateside (or acted like a PS3 one didn't exists), but they still brought it over. But then again, this is Namco, who is all over the place on releasing Tales games stateside. I do believe if there's a European publisher who wants the PS3 version in Europe too (which I'm thinking is what really helped lead to Eternal Sonata coming in English), it will be brought in English.

IM serouisly!!!! a MASSIVE tales fan... I am pretty happy about this since its the only tales game I am missing atm! Was hoping that I would not have to buy a 360 for this game!

Um the PS3 is fully region free, so if the initial Japanese release has English support, you could just import that one also.

Yeah Kotaku today had a story about the full voice throughout the game, but someone already posted that.

If it does indeed support English, you can bet I'll be picking up a PS3 and importing a copy (if a U.S. version isn't announced). Sony would be dumb not to encourage Namco Bandai to localize this, it's one of the best games I've ever played. I'm ready to sell my entire 360 setup just to get the best version of ToV.
Some do, but Vesperia doesn't.
Well you can fight Kratos in the game. So that is kind of a connection to ToS.

And while I'd love to buy the game on PS3. I still highly doubt that the US will see the PS3 version make it to the US for reasons that have already been mentioned. But I'd happily import it if there was English support.

While the 360 version doesn't have full voice, it's actually fine the way it is, IMO. Namco would have to really up the ante to get me to go cross-platform on this one.

Man, who would've ever predicted that the Xbox 360 would be the console to own for HD JRPG gaming??

I think he was talking about story connections though.

LOL OH LAWD. What a silly statement. The 360 is SHIT for Jrpgs. The PS3 is LESS SHIT, but still SHIT for em too. If anyone took rpgs it's the DS and PSP.

How is PS3 better for JRPGs?
Man, who would've ever predicted that the Xbox 360 would be the console to own for HD JRPG gaming??
Can't say I full agree with you there yet (mostly because some are getting ported, and lately PS3 has been getting more announcements). But then again, 360 was also out a year earlier. It's like how Dreamcast had the edge on RPGs over PS2 early, but that all changed eventually (as PS2 was out longer. RPGs do take a while to make and are the last games to come to a gaming console). It didn't exactly help that early on, PS3 development kits were quite expensive and multiple devs said they wouldn't be supporting PS3 until 2009 because of it (and now the development kits have greatly dropped, so I definitely see an increase, along with PS3 already having 3 million consoles sold in Japan, compared to the other HD console at 1 million).
How is PS3 better for JRPGs?
It doesn't make loud noises when playing games (well, that's the case with my 360. Can't install SO4 since it has some issues when installing). ;) Kind of like the reason I'd avoid playing a CD based RPG on my PS2.

Namco says they have no information on the U.S. ToV:
http://www.vg247.com/2009/04/07/namco-has-no-information-on-ps3-tales-of-vesperia-for-us/

However, Namco said the EXACT same thing last year about ES:
http://www.vg247.com/2008/06/02/namco-bandai-eternal-sonata-ps3-japan-only/

Anyway, here is a new scan:

I don't follow you.
360 has Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, ToV, and ES.
PS3 has ES.

DS has TWEWY, Pokemon, and a bunch of remakes.
PSP has Crisis Core and a bunch of remakes.

I'd be willing to make a bet that it will hit the US shores. I'll up the ante and say it will hit late 2009 or 1Q 2010.
How is PS3 better for JRPGs?
It has one that isn't at pure generic. It has Valkyria Chronicles, but if you take that away then yes, it is below the 360. I guess Disgaea 3 also counts, but everything on the 360 and all the PS3 ports are nothing really to write home about. The RPG torch went to the DS and PSP. HD Rpgs are something of a rarity.

And Pete

360 has Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, ToV, and ES. Blue Dragon was one of the most generic rpgs to ever come out.
PS3 has ES, Valkyira Chronicles, Cross Edge, Folklore, though that one is debatable.

DS has TWEWY, Pokemon, and a bunch of remakes. You forgot lost magic, magical starscreen, Rune Factory, Lost in blue, summon knight and several others.
PSP has Crisis Core and a bunch of remakes. Eh I guess you can have this.
