Tales of Vesperia is coming to PS3; demo on JP PS Store

Has not been announced for the US. Another thread on CAG about this topic pretty much determined that it is very unlikley.

I'm hoping there will be a Europe release on PS3 in English so I can import it.

It's out in Japan, and the first-day sales are in:

Walking around the streets of Akihabara, you'd be hard pressed to find a copy of Tales of Vesperia for PS3. Why? The game has sold over 140,000 units in one day, according to initial reports from Japan. Already, that's more than the first month of sales for the original Xbox 360 version, and nearly equal to the lifetime sales for that version. The promise of added content and being on a system that Japanese people actually own both contributed favorably to Namco Bandai's sales.

Wow. I wonder if they'll bring it over here? Anybody remember how well Eternal Sonata did (not that that's a good barometer of anything)?

I have the ToV CE, but I would seriously consider getting the PS3 version as I haven't yet finished it and do enjoy the game a lot.

I'd buy a NA PS3 release of Vesperia day one. My fiancee and I had a blast with both Symphonia and Abyss. I hope to hell Namco Bandai doesn't use Eternal Sonata as a comparison because we didn't even bother to finish the demo. Give us more real-time co-op action rpgs please, not dumb hotseat play.

Well, Eternal Sonata had a year of telling everyone how horrible it was (AND IT IS!). This had a year of telling everyone how good it was (AND IT IS!). Also, there was I think an interview with the VA who does Yuri and said he was called in to to do voices for additional artes. So...who knows.

All I know is it'd be an even tougher Platinum to get because of all the story elements being added with the Pirate girl.

Nothing Namco does makes much sense when the Tales series is involved. We never got the PS2 port for ToS(Which would have been nice since it fixed a few things), They brought over Tales of the World(Which I thought was boring) and haven't brought over any of the DS games. I honestly wouldn't be surpirsed if they called the ToV voice actors back just for Tales of Vs game or even the movie.

I would have no problem double dipping with ToV. But I'm not going to get my hopes up.... on the topics of ToV did that code that came with the 360's collectors edition ever do anything?

ToS was because Nintendo owned the English script or something. Something like they helped pay for the translating process.

I've heard that but I don't that know if that has ever been confirmed.

ToS is actually worth on PS2 with worst graphics and load time. Yea there are new outfit, boss, and moves but overall the GC version is better

I really hope this comes to NA and Europe. RPG Fan just did a review saying the enhanced version for the PS3 is the best JRPG of this generation.

Really looking forward to it, I loved the anime type cut scenes in the game, and it had great gameplay.

I'm hoping the PS3 version comes here too since, if I'm gonna play the game, I wanna play the best version (don't have time to play it twice).

But it's been a while since the Japanese release... I wonder if they'll bother with a US release. I'd think they would announce something by now.

I was thinking they might be holding off until the summer, or at least late spring, since Star Ocean International is in Feb and FFXIII is in March. No reason to rush the game out and compete with those.

There was a relatively short time period between Eternal Sonata being announced and released. It was also a very quiet release, from what I recall. My guess is we'll see Vesperia in October and have it released to very little marketing/hype.

Yes you get Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of the Tales 10th Anniversary soundtrack in individual CD jewel cases. (Vol. 1 is in the CE.)

Easily the smartest move they could do. Aside from Q1 being just packed to the gills with games, it's got some pretty heavy hitters in terms of RPGs. I'm hopeful that they'll localize it, as it's only been about 6 weeks since it launched in Japan. Add in White Knight Chronicles on the PS3 in February (it may not do too hot but it's still another JRPG to compete with) and it's a pretty crowded market. A June/July, or maybe third quarter (Aug/Sept) release seems like a decent window.

I'd wager that they learned their lesson from Tales of the Abyss, which launched roughly 2 weeks before Final Fantasy XII and got absolutely crushed in sales.

I also just bought the 360 version for my brother as an early Christmas gift (for $15 I'm too weak to say no to a JRPG) but there are just so many improvements in the PS3 version that I really want to get it.

I wish they'd announce it already. Even if it didn't VA everything, it'd be fine with me. I'd get it again.

Yeah, at this point I think it's safe to say this is not coming over.

It's a shame too, TOV is the best JRPG of the generation so far. The more people that get a chance to play it, the better. Anyone who has access to an Xbox, I'd urge you to stop waiting for the PS3 version and just play it now, before it becomes hard to find.

It has been pretty quiet on the ToV front. But there was also this.

Old too, though. Here's a sample from that link:

An attendee of the event decided to ask Baker whether or not he knows anything about an English localization for Tales of Vesperia on PlayStation 3, which should be releasing in Japan by next week. While he didn’t directly respond, he did say that he and the other voice actors “were sent back to do recordings of new moves/artes”.
Are there any versions of this that have even English menus and subs?
I'd like to know this as well. Any chance of a European release?

Bah... I thought for a second that this was a new thread confirming the US release. Damn you people for bumping a thread with such a misleading title.

I'm probably going to start the 360 version soon, since there doesn't seem to be any clear indication of a US release for this.

I wouldn't completely discount a US localization--especially if Namco decides to bring over the Tales of Vesperia First Strike movie over here. There's a shit ton of IdolMaster-esque DLC that I'm sure they'd love to pawn over here.
