I contacted Target about what would happen if I ordered it online and then on release day the price was different and when do they charge the credit card. Here is what they had to say the first go around:
"We won't charge your credit card until we actually start shipping your order. We also send an automated confirmation e-mail to let you know when the order ships.
Unfortunately, we don't match prices with Target stores. We look at several different factors to make sure that our prices reflect the item's market value and to make sure that it's a good value for you and all of our guests.
Although our Target stores do have a new price matching strategy called the Low Price Promise, this does not apply to purchases made on Target.com. For more information about Target stores’ Low Price Promise, please visit

Since the products and prices for Target stores vary slightly from region to region and occasionally between the store and the website.

I wrote them back to be clear about the "price adjustment" if needed and this is what they said:
"We're happy to adjust a price whenever we advertise an item as a sale item in our weekly ad either the same week or the week after you bought it online. Just write back with:
-The dates of the weekly ad (at the bottom of the back page)
