Team Fortress 2 Discussion Thread

I think the sniper just needs an ability to tilt his head from behind the walls. They might give him a crotch shot ability where the other person losses his balls.

or he swaps the headshot damage for crotch shots. CRITICAL HIT!

I want a gun that never has to charge for crits.

Penalty being either, if you miss, you lose either all or a large portion of your life.

Or, its like an experimental sniper rifle, unstable etc., if you get shot while zoomed in (by anything, pistol included), it blows up in your face and kills you.

Another idea that would be awesome imo, is the ability to take a much stronger version of his secondary weapon (assault rifle or something) and in return you cannot snipe. The sniper's machine gun has always been my favorite weapon, but its just so damn weak.

yeah, the stronger secondary weapon sounds good. but in return, you can't get crits (body shots) with the rifle. obviously head shots would still be a crit. but that would depend on what his main unlockable would be, hmmm.......

Crystal: that would be a terrible idea. It will make snipers play like awpers in CS. Which is fine, except the game has heavy emphasize on teamwork. Snipers in TF2 should stay support. They were broken as fuck back when they could quickscope. A decent sniper could even take out a team of scouts closerange.

I think the sniper should get a jetpack and have the ability to call in a pack of Velociraptors! Then the new melee weapon can be a dead baby seal you club people with!

Game updated today. Reset Stats feature now implemented.

New features were added: a "Backpack" at the Loadout menu and "Headwear" for each class. Notably the Backpack has 50 slots for items (all the unlocks) and a delete feature where you can remove an unlock and never acquire it again.

The entire TF2 Steam forums are in an uproar with retards lambasting Valve WITHOUT HAVING ANY CONTENT TO REVIEW FIRST. Wow.

Meh, not really a fan of the snare spells (sandman) and other MMO-like jackassery. My play time has decreased dramatically since the Scout update; it was such a turnoff for me.
Game updated today. Reset Stats feature now implemented.
My husband should like this. He considers the 6 million+ heal points he got from farming for medic items his badge of shame.

Why would anyone want to permanently delete an unlock?

Quite possible there will be an inventory limit once the hats hit, not to mention the blog posts "Things for every class" note.

Oh yeah now I remember people finding code that talked about random item drops, I suppose that's what the delete feature could be for eventually. It's still stupid the would let you delete the Valve unlocks.

Added the ability for players to permanently delete items from their inventory using the new Backpack menu. This does not reset achievements. Once an item has been deleted it can never be re-earned

Why do I see them permanently deleting weapons from people who use the achievement unlocker in the future

Why can't Valve just let me play the goddamn game without having to worry about achievements and grinding some stupid stats so I can play with the new stuff?

just an FYI about the reset stats button...it resets ALL stats for ALL classes. according to what i was reading over at the steam forums anyway. god i hate that board.

You hate it because it gave you useful information...?

It resets your time played so the stat reset is a no-go for me.

I have to agree with him, it's pretty similar to Gamefaqs, at least on the most visited message boards like the TF2 board. The boards for less popular games aren't quite as bad, but you'll occasionally see stupidity of smaller boards.

Yes! Finally the shame of my achievement farming is washed away.

Wait, headwear? Is there actually anything concrete regarding this, such as pics or stats (if there are stats), or is it all just framework/inventory stuff?

No, I got that. It's simply that you tacked it on to a good thread that I found weird.
So... they're turning TF2 into Deus Ex?
Well, competitive play will remain the same if it's stupid and pubs will still be all the zanier, I'm liking this.

Haha, i totally didn't think of that until now. "Here's a helpful thread. GOD THAT PLACE SUCKS!" does seem really strange.

I'm looking forward to this new style as well. It'll be fun to try a loadout and see what works and what doesn't depending on the situation.
"LoadoutSlot_Grenade" "Grenade"

yes.
Oh God no. If this turns into a grenade spam fest like TFC was, then i'm done. They better only be able to hold like 2 or something.

Not even 2. Grenades are the bane of FPS. Look at the smoke grenades in Gears or nade launchers and nade spamming in CoD4? They ruin games.

/agree. Well, maybe they'll get to use 1 every couple minutes or something. But i REALLY hope that it doesn't turn into a grenade spam fest.

If you watch some of the early TF2 videos you'll see the game did originally have grenades but they took them out. In the early videos the demoman had a grenade that was several sticks of dynamite tied together.

I'm not sure how I feel about adding grenades in TF2. I like the (relative) lack of grenade spam in TF2 since only one class can do it, though I have faith that if Valve did implement grenades they would do it in a way to prevent constant grenade spam.

Valve's already done a 180 when it comes to not revoking control from the player (Sandman) and making sure all weapons are easily visible from a distance (poor unlock models).

While many of the unlockable weapons do look the same as their counterparts, for the most part the differences between the two weapons aren't huge, they just modify the base weapon in some way. The new stuff like the flair gun is still easily identifiable from a distance.

The Sandman was definitely included as a counter to ubers. I don't really mind it, now that the scout update has been out for awhile I rarely ever get bonked. It was really bad at first but now it seems to have really leveled out to reasonable levels, at least on the servers I play on.

BOOM! SHAMELESS PLUG OF A THREAD I MADE!

Yeah, but even after say 3 weeks of going unbonked just makes the first time it happens after a while that much more annoying.

Yeah I have to agree that your descriptions of changing the weapons seems like a good idea.

Robin Walker did an interview recently, it seems like the hats are purely cosmetic right now and the backpack is pretty much just so you can pick up the class update weapons without having to unlock achievements, which is great because I hate having to unlock the achievements to get the weapons:

Shack: Will the backpack/head items be part of a separate game mode, or is this going to be patched into TF2 proper?
Robin Walker: It'll be in TF2 proper. The primary change here is simply the decoupling of achievements and unlockables, which is the source of most of the negative feedback we've received around previous class packs. The head-slot items are all cosmetic at this point, so they haven't resulted in any significant balance issues in any of our existing game modes.

Hey guys, just wondering but do any of you guys happen to run a dedicated server that I can borrow for about an hour or so? I have to make a machinima project for my film class and I'm having a tough time finding a server that has VAC disabled. The reason I need a disabled VAC server is because I need to film it without the hud on but Valve classified that as a cheat a while ago. If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

Someone recommended that months ago.

Also, it wouldn't be funny to have the train "talk". It'd be more amusing to have different melodies for the whistles (La Cucaracha, TF2 songs, etc.).

The talk bit was purely a joke, as I say later in the thread I think there should be domination whistles and/or crushing noises.

They should just put a small scoreboard by the train tracks with the number of kills the train has gotten that level. Sort of like the scoreboard for the ghosts on the Pacman level.

The TF2 blog was updated today, the Sniper's unlockable weapon will be a weapon that has a shorter ranger then the default sniper rifle and will require the sniper to get closer to other players.

Well hopefully that doesn't screw over the sniper TOO much. Sure, a good sniper can be super frustrating, but I don't want an unlockable that's going to require me to get within range of a Heavy or Pyro. I can see many snipers sticking to the rifle.

But this is just speculating. Maybe it won't be that bad. Time will tell.

My guess is the new rifle will be something like the videogame version of the M1 Garand, a semi auto rifle that doesn't have a scope but lets you have something like a 2x zoom down the sights.

My money is on a crossbow.
My money is on a crossbow.
A crossbow would be SWEET. Maybe that would allow corpses to be pinned to walls. It'd probably have to do less damage than the rifle or have a long reload time though to make it balanced.
