Test Drive a Chrome Notebook

I think he said it will show up as the city you put on your shipping address, so in this case, Greenfield.

The signup form did not do any address validation or verification, so you will have to search for EXACTY what you entered.

For example, if you used 'Saint Louis' on the form, then you will have to search for 'Saint Louis' in order to find your packages. Even though packages going to 'St Louis' will be going to the same town, they won't be yours... They will go to the person that used 'St Louis' on the form.
How do you find out of one is coming to your city?
I'd suggest reading a bit above this last post as everything that you need to know is just a few pages back.

Thanks I found it!

Currently three are being shipped to my small town.

It's only a matter of time until these bad boys land in the hands of us fellow CAGers.

Then we shall throw a party like it's 1988. :hot:

How can you tell the town?
sadface. One shipped to my ZIP, but its in a different town. And I was hoping for that to be my early christmas present :(
Also, one more special thanks to A Gamer for going above and beyond to set up this tracker for us to use. I greatly appreciate it.

If any of you receive one, let us know!

Do you guys know that the netbooks don't do anything but run the chrome web browser? It's a prototype machine and isn't to replace whatever you are using currently.

Yeah, that's why I want one at least. It'd be great to carry something like that around on campus. I dread having to lug around my heavy laptop.

Yeah that makes sense. I have a business and applied using the business application. Hopefully they choose me as it would be nice to double its use for college as well.

Thank you so much for this!
Do you know when we should expect more to go out? Like what would the earliest be?

Great work.

If I call ups tomorrow will they be able to give me an address if I give them the tracking number to one package in my zip code area?

Address?!?!? Are you out of your mind? lol

They will give you the name at least. :)

They are not supposed to give you ANY information.

But, if you ask nicely, they may confirm that the package is going to an address that you provide... So, you should call and ask if the package with tracking number blablabla is going to your address. They will either say yes, or no.
but it is Free!!!
If you want it just because it's free and not to help test it, then fuck you!

I agree!

I'm going to be upset if i don't get one because I know there are people out there that will use it for maybe a day and then be done with it. Im actually willing to use this thing and provide feedback like they want.

I'm right there with you guys, but unfortunately they can't tell who is actually willing to provide feedback and who just wants to win one for bragging rights. Seriously fuck off people who aren't going to help them out after receiving a free laptop.

What if I want one to use FOR bragging rights? I mean.. I'll use it a lot.. but only so I can be all "HEY GUYS, LOOK AT THIS LAPTOP, IT WAS FREE, WATCH ME TWEET FROM IT AND STUFF!"

...but I would use the hell out of it. Or at least look at a lot of porn and tweet a lot from it.

Judging by Gizmodo and Engadget impressions, this laptop is severely underpowered (though that is to be expected for a freebie). More so than a $200 Black Friday netbook.

YouTube is limited to 480p and Hulu is reported to be very choppy. These aren't supposed to be gaming machines but if they can't do basic video or Flash without performance penalties, your net productivity is severely limited to browsing.

In other words, you aren't missing out on anything if you don't get one. The novelty factor will most likely go away after a week of using one. With that being said, I hope I get one!

just curious for those that signed up when this was first posted, how many days after till yours was shipped? (for those that received it already)

I signed up the day before they shipped out and i got mine on the 9th but I joined the forums after the fact.

From what I have google is doing a pretty good job at giving them out to random people

But this is some fucking epic novelty value.

I am literally laughing at the people getting angry that some people might not be helping Google fix their OS, and just want this for the freeness factor. You think Google doesn't already know this?

Well, you are using it so I don't see an issue with that. Granted, if it can't stream video well that would effect porn video usage but, there are always pictures.
One out for delivery in my zip. Hope I get one. Could really use a laptop for my bathroom.
lol!

Damn... There are 14 of these bad boys around me. I know GR is also one of the cities that is favored to get the Google Fiber Optic and I am wondering if maybe this is why there are so many getting sent here.

Some other numbers that I found today:

Ann Arbor, MI - 26 units
Grand Rapids, MI - 14 units
Los Angeles, CA - 52 units
Miami, FL - 31 units
Chicago, IL - 45 units
Dallas, TX - 9 units
San Antonio, TX - 20 units
Indianapolis, IN - 19 units
Lincoln, NE - 10 units
Cincinnati, OH - 24 units
Columbus, OH - 25 units
Milwaukee, WI - 16 units

Definitely some interesting numbers when you think about the units/population of those cities.

I just filled this out yesterday, hopefully one of the 60000 who gets selected.

I wonder how long it takes between you filling out the form, and them shipping a laptop to your city.

I did notice one was going directly to mine, but that was since 12/10, so there must be another Googleite around here.
