I totally forgot about this one....seems it came out today and I missed out on pre-order deals and extras. Anyone get it...any impressions?

I have it- I won't get to play it until I come home later tonight. Seems awesome like the first one, though.

I totally loved the first, and as I was looking for prices, it seems that Gamestop.com is still offering their Casino mode with purchase.

I'm interested in this but still knee-deep in NFS:HP. Glad to see a bunch of Ferraris in the car list, but no Testarossa! Shucks. Lotus Esprit S3 though...

This game is pretty bad....in fact laughably bad. I don't know why they even bothered with the story. And the driving is just boring.

Really? Thats a bummer to hear from anyone. I loved th first so much (I bought it thru a Gamefly sale years ago for $10) that I had to pre-order this once I heard of It's arrival. I'm only missing seven achivements in the first one , one which I'll probably never get (courier missions... escorting, delivering those packages... ugh. I hope they didn't bring those back).

If you change the driving settings to sport or hardcore it feels a little better but honestly it's just boring. I liked TDU 1 a lot but after the advancements that have been made by games like NFS HP this game just feels like going to an art museum with a 90 year old person driving you around on a golf cart.

The story looks like something that was translated from Japanese and acted by people off the streets. I had to turn it off and I only got 15 minutes in or so. That's how I felt about it. You can ram cop cars and they don't do a thing. Out of the three starting cars, an old bmw, an old ferrari, and a mustang fastback, I used the mustang the most. Essentially my driving experience consisted of accelerate slowly, attempt hand brake drift and I'm in the trees...again. They use this dumb camera angle when you try to drift that pulls back and to the side of the car.

For as long as this was in development its a huge let down. It just feels like one of those games that a better developer could do so much more with. This is a major let down because cruising around on TDU 1 was a blast. The graphics are just there. They are bland: the other cars, the buildings, the island. It just is.

There are no BMWs in the game and it's not a ferrari, it's a lotus.
For me the game is exactly like the first but with more stuff to do.

Ive been playing for a couple hours now. Its ummm different. the story is lame sure, but i do like th ecrusing around with friends, main reason i got this game.

I kept my settings on Full assistance to make it easier, but it still handles like garbage. :( Thats my main gripe with the game, the handling.

But like i said, i got this game to cruise and drag online. I loved that in the first one.

Excited to try out Casino mode, once it releases as DLC...I got the amazon edition. Sucks because some achievements are casino mode stuff lol

All in all, people should have expected this, releasing at 50 bucks. And being delayed so many times. Regardless, id say RENT.

Really glad I got this one. I love the Test Drive series a lot. Plus, might not be that many cars but everybody forgets how much DLC they added for the last one, so I have high hopes for the dlc for this. Sure the handling is at it always was, but for some reason I can go drive hours on end inside the car instead of forza 3. Probably cause there is so much to look at and what not. Glad I paid $50 for it, really worth it IMHO.

Vulcan we should cruise on here sometime, imo thats the best part. I been playing this more tonite :)

Just played this some more, (2 hours) liking it more and more. Getting the controls down, and am addicted to crusing around with randoms and doing challenges. Lots of stuff to do in this massive world.

anyone tried any of them 80 mile challenges yet? takes like 1 hour to complete lol. Intense. But the payout is huge. Like 125,000

Yeah I put in my first hours into the game and am enjoying it as much as the first TDU.

The two biggest complaints are still there: Handling and Graphics. The graphics do look improved but not by a lot, I suppose being a open ended area with massive draw distance and tons of cars on the map doesn't leave much room for improvement. Handling on the other hand is still a bit off and It's a disappointment that they couldn't improve it further - however if your use to the TDU1 handling this won't bother you as much but it is la legit complaint.

The other two new issues for me so far is the lack of a auction house (I don't know why they removed this?) and connection issues. Connection issues will most likely be resolved once the server traffic slows down a bit after release week.

Oh, and they removed bikes but they handled like shit in TDU1. So I don't miss them.

The improvements that I've seen so far? You can now do off road racing and It has a nice rally feel. The controls while not perfect are still better then they were in TDU. You can customize your avatar a bit more with more clothing features and the like. You can now change your home's interior furniture. Lots of other minor changes that do the game good.

If you ignore the graphics issue and get use to the handling It's on par with the first game overall, and looks like I'll be putting another 80+ hours into this one as well when It's all said and done. Honestly I'm just glad to get another TDU on the market and overall I'd say It's a solid purchase if you loved the first one. However, if you didn't like the first one this isn't going to change your mind one bit. If you thought the first one was good, then I'd highly recommend waiting for a price drop in say the $20 or $30 range.

If I had to rate the two games based in just initial impressions I would give the first TDU a B and this one a B- for now.

.. I just realized it's been over 4+ years since the first one. Damn, I guess I should be a bit more harsh on this one then considering the time they had for improvement.

I'd like to do a double take on the handling issue. I was looking more into the game and you can apparently edit how your car controls sensitvity wise, so the handling issue is a bit more mute once you take the time to edit the controls. So I guess from Graphics/Gameplay scores the biggest downer would still be the graphics, but again I don't know how much more they can be improved without effecting overall framerate and load time issues (theres little to no load time once your in the game) so I'm gonna bump it up to a B - on par with the first game.

I like the game. It's different from Forza or NFS:HP, but that's what I expected. I love the open world environment. I realize there was a trade between detail and largeness, so I will give them a pass for the fact that the houses look the same and so does the scenery in most locations. However, I think the driving is on par with NFS games... which is poor.

I DO like the game, but I cannot understand why these games can't find ways to make the cars fun to drive. What ever happened to driving games like Project Gotham Racing? It was realistic in a sense, but arcade enough to be fun to fun to drift around turns and drive at unrealistically high speeds on bad roads. NFS and TD have focuses too much on the experience of seeing the cars or environment without making the driving fun. NFS:HP2 might as well not have a steering wheel. Those cars all handle like such garbage. I am not asking for realistic sim driving like GT or Forza... I just want cars that turn when you ask them to and don't go in a straight line any time you pull an e-brake and get sideways.

I still am happy I got the game and the driving is manageable. It's just not FUN. The rest of the game and appeal to me of the large maps are worth it for my gaming style. I was looking for more, but I'm not upset I spent the money.

PS - the voice acting makes Vin Diesel look like Marlon Brando... it's so hilariously bad that you have no choice but to watch it. My character is such a little bitch, it's hilarious. "Thanks man, I could not have done it without you!" Hahahaha.

Yeah the voice acting is hilarious. Especially when you do the missions and they say the same crap over and over.

I tweaked the dead zone a bit and turned down the racing "difficulty" and things are handling a bit better. I'm just waiting for them to fix the damn servers and everything will be good.

The only achievement I'm really going to dread is the level 60 one - because it looks like right now I'll have to explore every road in BOTH islands. Ugh lol not that again...

I like how all the reviews (like the OXM one) complain about bikes. But if you go onto there official forums, it says that they will have a DLC for bikes. Hopefully we see some more cars. Hell, I don't think I drive in anything else besides the Camaro honestly. If anybody is interested in joining the CAG club, just send me a FR!

The one that is really pissing me though is the servers. I mean come on already.

With seeing that a lot of people are unhappy with this game, I've held out over the past week. With the credit I have for my reserve, I'm paying $28 out of pocket. Is it worth that price?

No It's not worth more then $20 *UNLESS* you were a hardcore/huge fan of TDU1. I put in over 80+ hours into the first one, just missing some club and multiplayer achievements and of course all the escort missions (some were insanely long/stressful).

@Vulcan if you get enough people to do that I would like to join a CAG club.

Only if you enjoyed the first one. The handling is just....so awful

I was a huge fan of the first, and got the full 1000 achievement set. I was hyped for this and do "like" it. However, the servers make it virtually unplayable, and you have to disable the internet connection from your console to even play offline. When I try playing online, the constant server crashes cause the game to lockup and risk corrupting my save file.

I'll tell everyone I know to avoid buying this game until it's fixed. What a shame they dropped the ball hard. I really wanted to love this game, and will seek out a refund tommorrow.

I'd say trade in and buy at 25. I though don't mind cause I also bought DJ hero 2 for 2 bucks cause of the trade in Special thursday. So I'm happy I have something to fall back on while they fix the servers. I just hope we get A LOT more DLC. I want some more classic cars. I'm tempted to buy the first now since I have ALL the DLC for it.

Server issues are extremely annoying and definately putting a damper on it now. I just want to be able to have the ability to go anywhere and do anything, but I can't even race other people or pick up a challenge. It's sad that it wasn't worked out before release. This needs to be fixed yesterday.

How can this game get delayed and then come out the issues it has?

I can't believe the handling is so bad.. why can't they just tighten it up a bit??

The handling i got used to pretty quick, so its not big deal to me.

The damn servers are getting hit hard :(

I am just gonna sit on this game for a little bit because of the problems. Ill join the CLUB once servers are fixed vulcan!

Hmmmm I was really excited about this game but these posts are pushing me away from it. Hopefully they fix the server issues by the time I do buy since I was a fan of the first I'll give the 2nd a go when it drops in price or find it for trade on the forums.

The servers are still having issues (No Club, Keep Distance Mode and Cops/Robbers is currently disabled :() but I was able to invite my friend to my house,co-op driving, ranked races and instant challenges. So It's half working at least now. I figure another week before they get their shit together.

Lol I played the first one, rented the game, and played quite a bit. It was nice but nothing spectacular. To tell you the truth I was surprised they even came out with a sequel.

I'll definitely be getting this once my amazon trade goes through. Hopefully a patch will be released before I start playing.

I don't have a link but they are already working on a patch and have been adding servers. I'm guessing another week or two before everything is a lot better. Single player is fine once you tweak the controls.
For me the game is exactly like the first but with more stuff to do.
It essentially *is* the same game on a different island. Same game engine, same graphics, same play. So sadly, it's a little aged. But after a little initial disappointment, it's good.

I'm not sure if you guys watch Classic Game Room, but he just posted a two-part review of TDU2 the other day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG2yzCaPSP4

I pretty much trust his reviews across the board, so this video's drawn my interest in the game again. Think I'll pick it up when it hits $20-ish and the online issues are squared away.

Edit: On second thought, I think I'm just going to go pick up the first TDU on the cheap today. Been hearing more and more about the lousy handling in TDU2, which the first didn't suffer from apparently?

Patch should be sent to MS tommorow
http://forums.testdriveunlimited2.com/showpost.php?p=330733&postcount=1

The goal of this patch is as follows:

* Improve login process to allow a higher volume of successful connections
* Increase online stability across all multiplayer functionality
* Improve performance and stability of Friends List and Friend Invites
* Address issues related to file corruption
* Enable Club and MyTDULife functionality
* Enable Co-Op races
* Enable weather while offline
* Address an issue where players can get a Lancia which has no car data (the patch should prevent this from occurring in the future, and restore players who are currently affected by the issue)

So probably sometime next week knowing Microsoft's "Thorough patch testing." they usually take their time, but hopefully not in this case. In the meantime I'm playing MVC3 like crazy while they fix this game. I'm not gonna put another hour into risking anything, as I'll probably forget to backup my save again and lose hours of work.

That's good news. I have really been having fun with the game now that I'm getting used to it's quirkiness. Just a hint though... for the A7 cars, do NOT purchase the VW GTI (it's a hunk of crap and you spin violently out of control at the slightest movement). I recommend the larger of the two Alfa Romeos. It handles like a dream and is just a solid car for the class.

I've been working on exploration and achievements since I can't experience online to the fullest. I finished exploring Ibiza 100% and finished all championships, including the final race that's 74 miles of checkpoint dashing (took me about 50 minutes?). I have all classes of cars except for an A1, because I had to purchase homes for garage space. I found both wrecks from the Ibiza. I'm back in Hawaii now working on exploration and wrecks. I want those wrecks so bad!

I had to use an online guide to the wrecks for Ibiza. I had 9 of 10 wrecks for both the buggy and the vw beetle. Thank god I did, otherwise, I never would have found the others.

I love watching the Classic Game Room videos. He really nails the joy of playing video games and doesn't try to be "extreme" or "leet".

He just enjoys playing games and likes to talk about what's good in a game instead of nitpicking.

Patch is being sent to MS for approval. The waiting game begins to see how long MS takes. The first premium pack they were going to charge for (outside of Casino and the colored cars DLC. I still think Casino should be half the price or free as compensations) is going to be free because of all their issues.

Hey Everyone,

GMDestra here. I've got the latest message from the development team which outlines the latest status on our fixes, along with extra steps that are being taken to show our appreciation for our players:

To the TDU2 community,

Thank you for your continued support and feedback. Our community has been amazing and helped us quickly identify a number of issues, which we have made significant progress in addressing in the upcoming patches.

We really appreciate your patience in this matter and we would like to announce that we will be making the first premium DLC for the game free for everybody as a way of saying thank you.

The Exploration Pack contains new wrecks to be discovered that unlock the Lancia Stratos version Rallye and 1969 Dodge Charger.

We now have fixes for all of the following issues that have already gone live on PC and will follow shortly once patches are approved by Microsoft and Sony, respectively.

Issues Fixed:

*Logging into the game has been improved
*Once into the game the online network experience is now much more stable in all areas
*Save games no longer corrupt
*Existing corrupted save games will be repaired in many cases
*Friends lists are now populated
*Invites now work correctly
*Clubs have been brought back online
*Exploits to gain money have been fixed
*Casino access has been improved
*Players will no longer lose money because of the Casino bug

I hate the casino. It doesn't help that you can't really do anything except drive Audi, buy clothes, buy a couple drinks, and playing roulette or slots. I am trying to win a jackpot on the slots just to get the stupid achievement. Anyone have any luck with this one? I was doing the fashion machine just trying to get that figuring it would be the easiest with a 3000 jackpot. I just can't take the stupid sounds and how slow it is to keep pulling the handle. I just want the damn achievement!

I bought all the clothing and got that achievement though. I am not a big fan of the casino though. It could be fun to play some poker with a few people for a game or two, but I like the racing part better.

I can't tell you how many people have been challenging me for 50k in my Spyker SUV with their Bugatti Veyrons... yeah. While I can do 180mph in my car, I'm not racing a Veyron.

Ibizi was relatively easy to get 100% on (I was stuck on 99% cause I couldn't find one stupid little missing spot). Hawaii is another story... SOOOO many two lane highways that need to be drivin on both sides. Argh! I have 3 of the bonus cars now though! I love my Shelby Daytona Coupe. Then I have the Beetle and the Buggy. I can't wait for the Jag and Cobra... I can do without the other thing, the citreon or whatever it is.

I played the living hell out of this game considering I pre-ordered it. Once they finally allowed us to download the casino I did and it corrupted my profile so I had to start over. I was ok with it up until after another week of playing the Casino still didnt work....."servers unavailable"....I then decided im done with it and Im going to trade it in and buy Forza 3 again. Either way Im surprised people are still playing this.....Atari made a big poo poo releasing this game in my opinion! The soundtrack is pretty cool though!

I go back and forth on this game all of the time. I don't know why, but I keep coming back to it. It's like every day I have another issue with the game, but at the same time, I have so much hope that they'll eventually release the patch and the game will be working properly.

Recently I have experienced:
1) Chasing other players who are wanted by the police is a waste of time because 80% of the time they start you so far away from the player you're trying to run down and they're driving something better than your TERRIBLE Dodge Viper police car. No chance of catching them once they hit the open highway (or start 1.2 miles away from you). Making up 1.2 miles is impossible unless they just sit there and wait for you. Once you do catch up, the EMP or whatever is just silly.
2) About 50% of the time I do something online with other racers, it freezes my game after the race.

I keep playing it to finish exploring Hawaii (I've covered about 55% of all roads between the two islands. Hawaii is huge and annoying). I run races from time to time and keep working on some of the achievements. Finally finished up the $100,000 from F.R.I.M. I still need to get the 5000km of driving or whatever it is. That will take a while, but figured I'll take out a good chunk of that just exploring.

I keep all games, so Forza 3 is still there waiting for me. I am sad that PGR is gone forever though. That was my favorite racing series. I think they perfected the blend of arcade/realistic driving. Plus, they always had the sweetest Ferrari collection before other games paid the licenses to also have Ferrari included.

Retom I feel ya man.....I was the same way with that game and ill tell you why...cause there no new quality racing games out there :\.....I really recommend you check out the trailer for shift 2 you will pretty freaking impressed!

True that! Any game with a Testarossa never leaves my collection. Here's hoping some good Ferrari DLC hits TDU2. Pack 5 is killer in TDU1 :)
