hmm from the sounds of your posts you sound like a undercover Cavs fan. But that was a good 1st series game. To me it looked like the Cavs folded under pressure because they have not played against a team that fights back like Orlando except Lebron. Lebron was the only one who showed up the game. Rashard Lewis hitting the 3 point clutch shot. Overall what a good first game against Cavs vs Magic
 
Ok, for tomorrow, the one thing I want most is for Kobe to stop complaining after every play. There was one instance in Game 1 where he looked around all pissed off waiting for a call when the ball was lying right next to his foot and instead Denver picks it up and runs off.

It's not just Game 1 either, he's been doing this a lot more often lately.

Wow, looks like I can add Cavs to the long list of teams I am apparently a fan of. :lol:

Anyway, lets not take anything away from the Magic who made a brilliant comeback. But lets not kid ourselves, there is no one on that team that can stop Bron Bron, all the Cavs needed to do is to knock down open shots and that game would have been in the bag easy.

Although I dont want to take away from the Magic....it was more the Cavs just giving the game away with their inability to knock down shots. I mean hell when your entire front court goes like 10-30 or whatever they said I have a hard time saying it was the Magic fighting back. Most of those shots were pretty open the Cavs just didnt hit them. If the Cavs front court even hit half of their shots it would have put them up by 10-15 points.


I didnt understand the Cavs defense though. Why was West, Mo Williams and Wally World sinking into the paint so much on drives? The Cavs should have enough speed to keep up with most of the Magic players. That drive and dish was killing them.


Magic played pretty solid. It took a while to get the 3 ball to fall for them but when it did they scored in bunches. Howard getting into foul trouble is a concern for a long series but he proved that he cant be guarded by anyone of lesser athetisicm than himself. Neither big Z or Ben Wallace have any hope of stopping him.


This is going to be one hell of a series.

Bah, I thought I posted it here but I guess I didn't. Clipper management has improved greatly over the past 4-5 years, basically under Dunleavy's tenure. Though Elgin Baylor was only fired this year, fans knew Dunleavy had a say on a lot of the FO moves. Whether it be trading for Cassell or signing some hefty contracts in the free agency, it was very uncharacteristic for the Clippers to do, especially taking Sterling's reputation of being cheap.

As for how the Clippers' draft.. it hasn't been that bad recently. Again, the Clippers just adopted a new niche of being injury-ville.


Annnnyways, wow, Cavs lost? I wish I watched the second half...
 
Man, even though the Lakers lost I'm proud of the way they played tonight. They finally showed they have some fight in them and didn't get complacent.

Basically it just came down to who could knock down more shots and this time the roles got reversed. Lakers came up short in the clutch and let the victory slip away :/

Denver is a nightmare to cover when they get the shots going. Even when they go small, they can effectively negate the big men in the paint.

Because of tonight's outcome, I predict the Cavs win a close one tomorrow.

What happened to Bynum? He practically disappeared during the second half.

Bynum seemed to be playing decently in the first half. I don't think he even came out on the floor in the second half. Guess Phil doesn't trust him.
 
At this point in the post season I think it's obvious that any one of the remaining teams could win it all. It's almost more about match-ups now.
 
Lakers should have won that game last night. It was a fucking free throw contest starting at the 5 minute mark and the Lakers couldn't handle it. Freaking Gasol missed like a billion free throws in the fourth, making just a couple more could have won the damn game.

But of course, the Nuggets were playing good basketball.. especially in the second half. A lot of dirty basketball though, haven't seen so many uncalled fouls in the fourth and apparently, there is some controversy with the jump ball in the final couple minutes.

And yeah, gotta agree about the Kobe bitching. I lose all respect for the guy once he starts bitching and moaning. I rarely see a call being reversed after some dude cries about so I don't understand why EVERYONE keeps doing it. Just play the game and save yourself the embarassment.

Tonight: Cavs win. I feel like the Magic victory was a fluke.. but it also showed some flaws in the Cavs team; as in, LeBron is pretty much CARRYING the team on his back. But what can you say, LeBron is a phenom.

Lakers should have won yea, and Denver was getting a lot of calls and a non-call their way, like minimal contact, the ball thrown at Gasol's feet, and the Nugget player cutting through the circle before the jump ball was touched.
Yet when the Lakers went in with all the pushing and shoving, I rarely heard a whistle being blown.

Kobe was finally able to keep his composure last night and that was nice to see. He would give the initial WTF? reaction then he would just let it go.

They killed themselves in the free throw department just like Denver did in Game 1, and it was odd to see Gasol miss those shots near the end. He needs to shave that thing he calls a beard, he looks like a bum :p
Btw, did anyone catch the slow mo after the kicking foul where Gasol has his hands up and head back and Nene is right next to him with a grin? That was the funniest slow mo ever.

The timekeeper certainly wasn't too eager to start the clock right away but it was still a good shot... Damn. Cavs were very lucky to pull out the win, we'll see how mentally tough Orlando is in Game 3.

I noticed that too. Had the timekeeper been up on it right when Lebron touched the ball, he would've run out of time before the shot.

I expect to see this shot in a lot of commercials now though ;)

1. You can't let LeBron catch the ball with 1 second left.
2. You can't give up a 3 in a 2 point game. Don't bite on the fake to the basket, better to risk a two and tie!
 
I'm glad Lebron made that shot as it will result in more playoff games to watch. If I was a Cavs fan I would be extremely worried though. Orlando looks far more mentally tough and plays with a focused team mentality. They have stepped it up these playoffs and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win it all. Denver has also stepped it up and I see them playing better than the Lakers so far (however I have to admit Ariza has upped his game). Denver/Orlando -> Finals.

As far as the refs giving more calls to Denver over the Lakers... Are you kidding me? I can't count the number of times Gasol flopped/tangled himslef with Denver players and as a result -> free throws. Can't respect that type of player who bitches so much and gets those flops to work (I'm looking at you as well Ginobli and Varejo).
 
Insane ass game. I was at the gym watching it on the screen. Half the guys watching were like "YEAH!" and the other half (including myself) were like the "fuck!". I wanted Magic to win that one.. because they deserved it and I feel like the series would have been more interesting if Orlando went 2-0. Nonetheless, I see the Cavs winning the series in the end. West coast.. watching it, I feel like the Lakers can take it with a little more work. Lakers can win it all if they face the Cavs in the finals because Orlando would shit on the Lakers. 'Sides, everyone keeps talking about the whole LeBron vs. Kobe shit and the finals would attract a lot more attention if those two were to go at it.

It wasn't just a catch and shoot. He caught the ball high, came down with it and went up again. Its probably still good but a lot closer if the clock starts immediately.

Well you know, it was a catch and shoot, so it looks legit ;)

With Lebron's shot though, he touched the ball in the air, came down and looked at the basket, jumped then released, so I was looking thinking hah, he just wasted the whole second but he got it off at 0.2, then with the replay the clock didn't start tickin' til' after he hit the floor.

I ain't mad, I'm just sayin' since I'm pretty sure clock guys aren't always on time :)

I forgot to be a bit more specific. Things were fine in the first half, but around the 4th quarter Denver was getting a lot of calls through minimal contact while the Lakers had a lot of contact in the paint through tip-ins, layups, and rebounds, yet there was hardly ever a whistle, plus the obvious bad kick ball call and the non-call on the jump ball violation.

I don't like to complain much about the refs since they seem to be so fickle anyways, but I mean, there's just hardly been any consistency to the refs foul calls in the playoffs so far.

I'm always scratching my head when a foul gets called on a small bump to be fair, I'll use the Lakers as an example: Kobe went in for a layup on game 2 and jumped into the defender, and the defender clearly was backing up to avoid contact but just grazing Kobe, then a foul was called on Denver.

Then there's those cheap fouls they always call on Dwight Howard, and even though I'm no fan of the Magic, I could understand why he would be so frustrated all the time when he just has his hands up and gets all ball, then they blow the whistle on him repeatedly.

Then after a whistle on some minimal contact, you have everyone wrestiling for a rebound on the other side of the court, and all of a sudden there's no fouls being called, or a funky loose ball foul.

*sigh*

Anywho, I'm stoked for Game 3 and I feel good about the Lakers. Come home up 3-1! :applause:
 
As for fouls. I think fouls will always be a heated debate. What the league has in play now is simply broken and the difference in calls is so wide that no one call can really be right or wrong anymore.

One second a guy gets blasted out of the air and its a 2 shot foul...the next second a guy laughs on the bench and he is ejected from the game.

Until Stern calls out his own refs and demands a high quality then it will simply get worse.

Yea, I tried avoiding a wall of text but couldn't help it this time, just watching the playoffs get dictated by refs continually gets frustrating.

That technical on Denver before the half is another example of a bad call, but as a Laker fan, I'll shrug and say "hey, let's take it ;)"

There are some bullshit calls going the lakers way right now. Walton completely dives on 2 plays. There is no way in hell a grown man in the playoffs can ever go "flying" backwards. If that ever happens it just means you are either not playing hard enough or you are acting, either case...no call.

Way to many free throws being shot this game by both teams.


But Billups needs to calm his cool ass down....you are missing out on so many points by taking quick shots. But that is what he is known for.....so whatever I guess.

First Lebron cramps up from exhaustion, now Kobe can barely stand through the postgame interview. I thought those two couldn't get tired. I've never seen Kobe so wiped.

Alright, to be honest. Kobe gets a little too much credit with this whole, "best closer in the game," bullshit.

Jordan was the best closer when he played because he himself would make the key steal, he himself would make the key block, he himself would get the pass, rebound, dunk etc etc.

Whenever they say Kobe is the best closer I always think of all the times Horry made game winning shots or Fisher or Shaq....and now all I ever think of is Trevor making some of the best defensive plays known to man at the end of games to bring the Lakers back.

The Aura of Kobe is the single most annoying thing in all of sports.

Here's my solution to the officiating problem: Take away the refs, let the players play, and have one prison warden with a shotgun to prevent things from getting out of hand.

I dont think so. I know ESPN is pushing that but it doesnt feel that way to me. I like and will always support Lebron because he is a Strong Black Male that hasnt got arrested, found with drugs, beat up a babies mama, cheated on his wife, etc etc.

I mean, I buy into not only Lebrons but any superstar celb that seems like a nice good hearted person. Without how many truly messed up people they are in the world...especially in sports...I dont mind if you promote him as the second coming of jesus.

Pfft, but ESPN always goes that one step over the line in everything they do.

I know you hate the Lakers and Kobe but you gotta give him credit.
He has knocked down some tough shots to lift the Lakers to a win. I dont like Reggie Miller but dude was a nice shooter when the game was on the line. Kobe has that same killer mentality when the game is on the line. Ariza has been putting some serious work but you gotta give Kobe credit where credit is due.
 
I actually dont hate the Lakers or Kobe. I admit I hate laker fans though. I will be the very first to admit that Kobe is a monster in pretty much all aspects of the game.

A big part of this is just media bullshit like always as they try to hype everything up to epic standards. Although its true that Kobe is taking the last shot when the game is on the line, I find that more often than not there are a slew of other people who actually brought the lakers back into the game so Kobe could hit that last shot. Gasol, Fisher, Trevor....those guys deserve much more credit than they are getting....even by LA fans. (Which why I hate them so much...I talk LA fans who apparently think Kobe scores all 98 points each game)

Maybe it simply is a fault of mine that I tend to take a persons entire career into account when forming a opinion on them but from what I remember Kobe has always had a superstar right next to bail him out and bring the team back.

The 3 years he didnt the Lakers were fucking abissmal and Kobe wasnt doing that much closing then. Flash foward to recent times and the Lakers STILL were not that amazing until they got Gasol. Before they were gifted Gasol from the Grizz they were a slightly upove average team.


Hell the Lackers are my least favorite team and even I feel sorry for his teammates. Farmar could go for 40 but after Kobe take the final 7 shots make or miss he gets all the credit and Farmar name isnt mentioned until the 2nd page. People at least mentioned Steve Kerr, Toni Kukoc, Dennis Rodman in the press release.
 
Nice to see the magic take game 3 despite the ref's best efforts. This officiating has been so awful. Not Lakers/Kings awful, but pretty close behind.
 
Solid effort by the Magic tonight, still stings that it could be 3-0 if not for that last second shot though.

If Howard can make his free throws like he did tonight, the Magic will be tough to beat.
 
Man. I thought the Cavs would take the Magic 4-1. Kind of realized that the Cavs doesn't have a very good big man to contain D. Howard. I don't mind it though, I'd rather have the Lakers face the Magic over the Cavs in the finals.. that is, if the Lakers can maintain their alright game for the rest of the series.

for me it also seems like soodmeg really dislikes the Lakers and only gives them credit when he feels like it. But in Game 3 kobe did make some tough shoots especially that 3 pointer. Ariza and Pau also but in some work to win.

Yesterday was also another good game between the Cavs and Magic. imo that game had so many fouls down the stretch it was unbearable to watch. Lebron again had no help at all and Mo was non existent.

Oh, and will someone on the Lakers not named Kobe or Gasol DRIVE IN?!? What the hell is this "lets pass it around outside and shoot" tactic? You have big guys to rebound and you can't win a game if you're not willing to score in the paint.

I get why Jones is doing it. You cant hard foul a superstar without getting suspended. I am kinda on the fence...I am glad someone is getting into Kobes head by any means possible but I also dont like seeing straight dirty ass play. (Bruce Bown is right)


I am just jaded by the fact that superstars are so protected so I find it funny to see someone just blatantly smashing one.
 
Luke Walton is a fucking horrid defender. I have no idea why Jackson thinks he can guard Melo. Walton can barley guard a spot up jump shooter let alone a driver...much less a superstar.
