The "Alberto Del Rio" Wrestling Thread

So, if they had Alberto Del Rio/Christian and Hart Dynasty/Dashingly Sinister, we have a pretty stacked PPV tonight. It has great potential to be great or suck.

Goldust said on Twitter that he was told to be at NOC for a match as well, speculation is that he'll be involved with the tag team title match. But he could just end up in the dark match. I'd love to see him and Yoshi in the tag title match though.

If they let AJ and Joe go, that match could justify the price. Same story with MCMG and Beer Money.

Vadermania was awesome. If he was 20 years younger, he'd be Brock Lesnar in MMA.

Brock Lesnar is an anomoly in the human race. He has a unique size and build, that I haven't seen anyone else possess.

I love Vader. I do. I have seen his work from Japan in the 1980s, followed his WCW and WWE's paths, and took interest in his career as it winded down--but he's a different beast.

And, in his prime condition, I'm still unsure if Vader could have made weight to fight in, say, UFC's Heavyweight division. Even in the 1980s, Vader was huge.

Brock Lesnar to me just seems like a farmhand that actually went to school and did well in wrestling.. and so was introduced to the world as this huge athletic monster type of wrestler/football guy.

Vader is one of those fat guys that's obviously strong due to his huge frame that somehow found his way into professional wrestling and was pushed/promoted due to his bowling ball-esque size.

What the fuck am I talking about...

Vader was one of those heel types that honestly demanded respect. The heels these days are honestly a joke for the most part. I guess its due to mainly how one month you are a heel, the next you are a face... I dont ever recall Vader being a face. He was just this monster that came down to the ring and beat the hell out of people. And that big ass helmet was awesome....

That type of heel persona is something that either the WWE or TNA really need right now. WWE semed to be going down that path with Sheamus when he came out on raw and just obliterated Jamie Noble. They should have fed him a couple more jobbers and then a couple of lower mid carders to destroy, and then start the build to a title run. Instead, Now we have the guy as a heel champion that was made to look like a pussy by going to the Nexus and basicly begging them not to hurt him after he ran off from them a few times...

Also, Abyss used to be that monster type heel persona, and really was a much better heel when he had James Mitchell as his mouthpiece. Sadly, there is no way in hell to ever get that back after the "Monster" persona was destroyed by the "Magic Hogan ring" storyline. I cant even look at the guy the same way anymore.
Right after Carlito debuted in 2004. Cena needed time off to film The Marine, so the story was Carlito had Jesus (Aaron Aguilera) stab Cena in a night club.
Aha, now I recall that. Thanks.

That TNA lineup looks like hot fire. Thing is, and I don't know if I'm the only one here, seeing that lineup for a *house show* seems ***far*** more enticing than if TNA offered the same lineup for a tv show or PPV. TNA has a reputation, at least in my head, of putting on incredible house shows, yet I know beyond a shadow of a doubt their tv/ppv are for shit.

I'd buy a ticket to see that lineup for a house show, but I'd never order the PPV. Does that make sense?

EDIT: To their credit, WCW made "Big Van Vader" a huge deal when they brought him in from New Japan. The mastodon mask was incredible, and the announcers sold his matches like he could end someone's career with his punches alone (and of course he deserves credit for a unique and good looking striking style). Not to mention, wrestling was so different in style back then that a 'mere' powerbomb was a devastating looking finisher. WCW did a great job with Vader, and he, of course, did a great job running with what they gave him.

(except for the masters of the powerbomb stuff)
Can't get the PPV tonight so feel free to updates in the thread here guys. I like reading the reactions live. :)
I'm sure WWE wouldn't mind you looking for it online. After all, it'd create another opportunity for them to brag about how their PPV was a "top search."

If you count Boy Meets World, Vader was a face. He was also a great father and role model to Ethan Suplee.

Night of Champions:
I really like the Allstate arena and when WWE comes to Chicago, but the past couple of PPVs in the arena have had horrible control of the Pyro. This IC match is so smokey. I really don't remember it being this smokey at Wrestlemania 22.

Not really surprised he retained. I figure they plan on getting the US Title off Miz so might as well keep the IC Title where it's at.

Kofi-Dolph is right now.

Apparently a stipulation of this match is that if Ziggler gets counted out, he loses the title. And Michael Cole just called out Kofi for deciding to toss Ziggler in the ring at the eight-count instead of letting Ziggler get counted out.

You know, if Vickie gets back down to a decent size-- What the heck did I just think?! *puts gun in mouth*
Striker mentioned Punk's friends Scott and Chris. Heh.
I'd be up for the Second City Saints in WWE. Cabana deserves some WWE pay considering how poorly they treated him the first time.

Interesting match between Big Show and CM Punk. They're doing moves outside of their normal repertoire.

Does anyone else remember when the Miz first debuted in WWE?

He's come a long way, has worked hard, and deserves this push. :)

(And this comes from someone who would lambaste the Miz like no other.)

I'm guessing Miz is going to take the loss, only because having DB lose would make all the build up they've been giving him since his debut pointless. :(

Yeah, I remember. I was excited to see him except they made him "host" of Smackdown. I've stuck with him and he just seems to have worked his ass off and kept his head relatively low. He used to be just a good mouthpiece but even over the last year or two you can see his wrestling has improved as well. He really deserves all this that has been thrown his way so far this year.

On Miz losing, I'm not going to be too upset about it. I expect it really. He loses and it just gives him more drive to be WWE Champion. Also gets the US Title on someone who could, conceivably, defend the title every week. Currently and for the last couple months it's just been an accessory. Nothing really done with it.
And Arn--does--belong in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Definitely. I figured he'll be inducted at the next mania.

Miz doesn't need a title, at this point. He's risen so prominently, that he's bigger than the U.S. title.

He's quite a talent, and does sports entertainment real well.

We have a new United States Champion!

Miz is actually crying? This better be a sign that he will cash in MITB and fail.

I'm glad they had
Danielson
win in a legitimate manner.

I was preparing myself for
disappointment
and a
roll
-
up
.

So, this pretty much confirms that
Miz
will
cash-in his title shot
, aye?

I honestly think this outcome will help both guys. Bryan more than Miz of course but this will lead to hopefully some interesting stuff with Miz and cashing in MITB shot, even if it looks like Miz might be the first guy to ever lose MITB shot.
Does this mean Miz will walk out with the spinner championship tonight?
Hopefully.

And Cena just broke the fourth wall. Ahhhhhhh
Does this mean Miz will walk out with the spinner championship tonight?
More like he will try to walk out with the spinner and fall prey to stone cold steve Orton.

God, I hope so. I can see him cashing in after the Kane/UT match and switching brands. It seems like a decent way to kick off SD on SyFy (assuming he skips the taping after his win and appears the following week like Rey Mysterio did a few months ago).

And does this stuff really need spoiler tags?

Worst Lumberjack match ever--and most of them are horrible.

*Melina spills to the floor*
*Lumberjacks do nothing*

what did he do?
He made a comment about Edge's "Rated R" moniker, and said something about WWE being PG television. :)
I thought Chase was making fun of spoiler tags with the excessive amount he used.
Perhaps. ;):whistle2:#
Err...did Eve just go to throw a punch at Jillian, then change her mind and walk away?
That's what I thought I saw.

I had no idea Gail Kim was still employed by WWE. 'learn something new every day. :whistle2:#

These "Please don't try this" infomercials could be just about Edge describing his various injuries.

Edit: I hope Barrett wins. It would be a shame if he lost visibility. He's a little green in the ring, but is a great speaker.

I wonder what they're going to do with LayCool now. Tears may or may not be shed when the "powers that be" inevitably break them up and make them feud with each other.

Undertaker/Kane up next. I'm going to guess that Kane steamrolls Taker and it ultimately leads to a match at Hell In A Cell.
