"The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson Wrestling Thread

I figured Big Show would knock him out while he was sitting there, so we could finally get the Vickie turning on Edge to get revenge for crazy wheelchair tipping Edge from before HIAC against Undertaker.
Unless that Cena/Hogan rumor proves true
I don't see that. The odds Hogan will agree to job are almost nil, and why put your poster boy out there on your biggest show to lose when he has a movie coming out soon after? No. With all this legends stuff it makes more sense to go Jericho/Hogan and have the "big" Legend shut him up.

My wife and I both had to laugh at Melina getting knocked out cold by Maryse, but still having the ability to tug her skirt down as she fell. :)

http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/story/9286396/Reports:-Ex-WWE-stars-to-fight-in-MMA-bout

Former WWE superstar and NAIA national wrestling champion Bobby Lashley will compete in his second pro fight against one of MMA's early ancestors, Ken Shamrock on March 21 in Pensacola, Fla., according to reports.

At 32, Lashley is 13 years younger than the UFC Hall of Famer. But at 45, "The World's Most Dangerous Man" possesses a wealth of experience with an illustrious career competing in Pancrase, PRIDE FC and the UFC.
Shamrock, the founder of the Lion's Den, rebounded from a five-fight losing streak when he submitted Ross Clifton in the first round on Feb. 13 at a Wargods and Ken Shamrock Productions co-promoted event.
With a record of 27-13-2, Shamrock has compiled victories over Masakatsu Funaki, Bas Rutten, Dan Severn and Kimo Leopoldo. Three losses to former UFC poster boy Tito Ortiz gained Shamrock much exposure, but by then his best days were behind him.

Shamrock is no stranger to professional wrestling fans. The Macon, Ga., native has kept up with his MMA training during stints in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling. He became WWF intercontinental champion during his time with the promotion from 1997 to 1999. In May 2002, Shamrock joined the upstart TNA Wrestling organization and became the promotion's NWA heavyweight champion.

A novice in the sport, Lashley has gained media attention following the success enjoyed by UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar when he made the transition from amateur wrestling to MMA.
Lashley took to the sport like Lesnar and could become a considerable force given his size and wrestling background. He has found a new home with the highly regarded American Top Team camp coming off a successful run with World Wrestling Entertainment where he became the promotion's ECW champion.

In his MMA debut for the World Fighting Alliance promotion in December, Lashley beat Joshua Franklin in just 41 seconds when the referee halted the bout due to a cut, giving Lashley his first win — a first-round TKO.
The intriguing heavyweight bout is on a card set to feature two other mixed martial arts bouts in addition to several boxing matchups. In heavyweight action, former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson takes on controversial UFC veteran Jeff Monson. Meanwhile, Seth Petruzelli will compete for the first time since debunking the myth of Kimbo Slice at EliteXC's final event last year when he meets former WEC light heavyweight champion Doug Marshall.

The "March Badness" event will feature Roy Jones Jr. in the main event as he takes on Omar Sheika.

What was the point of of having HBK fight Koslov? They just wasted that guys undefeated streak which could have been used to put somebody over.
I thought it made perfect sense. Kozlov (Koslov?) beat UT cleanly, establishing himself as a credible threat against anyone in the WWE. Michaels beat Kozlov cleanly, reminding everyone that he is still a great wrestler and by extension, has the tools to do things that even the Undertaker can't do. For the record, I don't think UT's streak is going anywhere but at least there are some new, good talking points for the announcers to bring up when building the match.
Mark Henry is in MITB.
Seriously? If so...

This is shaping up to be one of the 5 worst WMs.
Henry getting into MITB only ups his chances of a potentially career ending injury, which I'm okay with.
Henry seems like a genuiely nice guy from every thing I have read, plus he had to put up with the Michael Hayes incident. I wouldn't say he deserves a career ending injury. Then again, I don't have a problem with him in the ring. Considering his size, he is quite capable in the ring as far as I am concerned.

Maybe "career-ending" is being too harsh.

I appreciate that he's a hell of an athlete and that he's put in his time, but at the same time, he's been wrestling for 13 years and still has the moveset of Tugboat. I don't expect him to bust out a 450 here and there, but after that type of tenure I'm sure he's being paid far more than he's worth to do little more than bearhug a cruiserweight every week.

He fills a role in the WWE, which was the one that a dude like One Man Gang filled decades ago. Not my cup of tea, but like Khali, something they need and something that diversifies.

Mark Henry is the least of my concerns when the guys who *could* be in great wrestling matches on their show aren't getting the tv time to do so.

I have no problem with Mark Henry. He's not the most exciting guy to watch, but he seems like a pretty nice guy in general and for a dude his size, he's pretty damn athletic.

That being said, those poor, poor ladders.

This week's Raw wasn't as it's good as it's usually been, but I liked the opening segment - even if it did drag on, and the set didn't hit Snuka anywhere near hard enough to knock him out or break an egg. Match-wise, Knox vs. Rey vs. Kane was good, but nothing memorable, while the main event was a good TV match, and had an amazingly bad sharpshooter by Edge and some incredibly goofy faces by Cena. Kozlov vs. HBK wasn't a complete disaster, but I hope this is the beginning of the end of Kozlov's main event push, as his act just doesn't work for matches that have to go longer than 5 or so minutes. Cole noting that the torture rack COULD be a submission move in this match was probably my favorite moment in it.

Bill Watts's HOF induction video was awesome - I hadn't seen stuff from his matches that they showed in it, and I liked seeing a little MSW footage as well - even if whatever library WWE got it from didn't take care of it, as it was pretty beaten up at times. The Watts promo played during the video was excellent, and I'm glad to see him in the Hall and greatly look forward to his speech. Hopefully he calls someone a sissy at some point or mentions Jim "DOOGAN!".

The Orton-HHH stuff meandered along until the end, with Orton saying it felt great to kick Vince, felt better to kick Shane, and that nothing felt better than RKOing his wife. Orton throwing in that creepy bit about loving the scent of her skin was awesome, and I liked HHH saying at the end that if he'd break Orton's collar bone for business, he'd break his neck for a personal issue. Very good highlight reel-worthy stuff here.

Jericho - I wasn’t planning to do this today, but…welcome to Piper’s Pit. I’ve been berated by all of you hypocrites for disrespecting the legends. Tonight, I went to great lengths to procure the original Piper’s Pit set. Piper’s Pit was a groundbreaking talk show that featured many classic moments and segments and episodes, but the most infamous was this one here (clip of Piper-Snuka airs) On that note, let me introduce my guest tonight - SUPERFLY JIMMY SNUKA! After that Piper’s Pit, you and Piper tore it up all over. Let’s look at footage from those matches now. Sweet memories, you guys looked pretty good back then. You wait your turn…You’re a grim reminder of what can happen -you are what Mickey Rourke’s movie is all about. In most sports, Hall of Famers are retired, but not you - you’re still wrestling on indy shows in high school gyms across New Jersey. On top of that, you and Piper entered the Rumble last year - HOW DARE YOU! Do you know how many deserving superstars could have come in, won, and gone on to WrestleMania and had their lives changed forever!? You wouldn’t allow that to happen - you had to hear the roars of the crowd one more. You had to hear these hypocrites one last time. All of you hall of famers are sick in the head - you can’t let it go! I brought you here to show the guys in the back what can happen if they aren’t careful, they could end up like you - a pathetic disgrace. You don’t like it? That makes you angry? I’ll say this slow so that even you can understand - you are finished. No one cares about you anymore, Snuka. Nobody wants to see you anymore, so pack it in, go home, and stay home! Do you understand what I’m saying to you? You don’t want to listen? Fine. What did Piper say? OLD SCHOOL IS COOL, fine, let’s go old school, Jimmy! I bought some stuff to remind you of your glory days. You wanna be a big shot? There’s a pineapple, just for you. You want a banana? There’s a banana. JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS! This is what you wanted, you hypocrites. Piper told me to embrace the past, not bury it, so let’s let him relive his glory days! (he pulls out a coconut) Yeah, it’s a coconut. Wanna relive your past?! (Snuka grabs the coconut) Okay, you made your point… (Jericho kicks these down onto Snuka, then whips him and stuffs a banana in his face)
HHH - I know that you’re the same little kid who used to carry my bags around in Evolution. You’re the same little boy - you’ve got all the talent in the world, but are ultimately gutless!
Orton - Since you wanna get all personal and everything, I thought you might want to know that it felt great - when I kicked the old man in the skull. It felt even better when I did the same thing to Shane. But Hunter, when I hit that RKO on your wife…I replay that over and over in my head. I can still smell the scent of her skin…so soft…at least that’s what I remember. I wonder what the last t hing is that your wife remembers before I grabbed her littleneck and slammed her face right into the ground!
HHH - The last time we fought in this ring, I broke your collar bone. That was just business. THIS. IS. PERSONAL! I’M GONNA BREAK YOUR NECK!
(during a torture rack by Kozlov to HBK)Cole - THIS COULD ALMOST BE A SUBMISSION MANEUVER!
Watts - I believe that you’ve gotta get your opponent’s attention, and then you’ve gotta whip him when you’ve got the chance! They don’t know what the Hell I’m gonna do, except that whatever it’s gonna be, it’s gonna be devastating!

I kept hoping someone would call it a "modified sharpshooter" but Cole didn't take the bait.

That's OK, as long as it was an evil laugh that would make Marty Wright proud.

Updates on the status of MITB (participants) after the two Smackdown tapings.

Entrants into the Money In The Bank ladder match at Wrestlemania include CM Punk, Kane, Mark Henry, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Finlay. At this week's tapings, MVP defeated Matt Hardy and Shelton Benjamin defeated Jeff Hardy after Matt attacked Shelton. Next week's tapings had Finlay defeating THEE Brian Kendrick to get into the match.

I can't help but think I've seen this match before.

Here's hoping they use MitB this year as a vehicle to get MVP into the main event scene. He paid his dues by getting jobbed out for 4-5 straight months and deserves the push.
The Boogeyman got fired today.
Dangit. I haven't seen him since the time he appeared in that DX skit since I don't watch ECW, but if there was one thing about him, it was that he was always very entertaining. All of his promos were awesome, and his feud against JBL was great. He even walked in an entertaining way.
I kept hoping someone would call it a "modified sharpshooter" but Cole didn't take the bait.
Yeah, it looked really bad. I thought he was actually going for that Edgacator submission he used in the feud with Angle years ago, but he forgot how to do it halfway through :D (its basically the same motion except he rolls the opponent over like the sharpshooter, but stays facing towards them)

ECW wasn't as good as it was in past weeks, but still wound up being an incredibly fun show. I dug Kane-Boogey, with Boogey moving around way better than I can recall, and taking great bumps, too. Mark Henry vs. Santino was a blast thanks to Santino's pre-match antics and goofy mannerisms during the match. Natalya vs. Alicia was fine, and I loved Natalya's vicious-looking Sharpshooter. Edge, take notes - THAT'S how you do the move and make it look credible in 2009. The Miz/Morrison video package was comedy gold, and the main event was fun, but not very memorable aside from Striker's rant on Myspace douchebaggery.

(after rejecting Boogey’s offer of worms)Grisham - NO THANK YOU says Kane!
Striker - Kane with a show of respect by going for an early covering. Showing that he reveres the Boogeyman’s strength .
Santino - Okay! You are the world’s strongest man - I’m not going to argue that! But you have a physique that women don’t love! Women love this physique! (shows off abs) DEY WORSHIP MY BICEPS! They freak out over my abdominals! (Beth slaps his abs, and then he winces in pain) But that’s not all - they go nuts for the curvature of my glutemus! I could have been Mr. America…better yet - Mr. Italy! I COULD HAVE EVEN BEEN A LIFEGUARD ON THE BAYWATCH! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE I COULD HAVE SAVED!? SO MANY, but right now, NOBODY CAN SAVE YOU!
Morrison - Next up, Best Musical Performance. Miz and Morrison - Mizfits and Mofos. R-Truth - What’s Up. The Colons with Doin’ the Butt…
Miz - And the winner is…
Morrison - John Morrison and the Miz for Mizfits and Mofos!
Miz - Man, we are awesome.
Morrison - So gangsta.
Striker - Aside from Beulah McGillicutty, Natalya is the only female to survive the infamous, grueling Dungeon training center tactics!
Striker - Here comes the Livewire, the pontiff of the Peepulation - Christian!
Grisham - Last week, Tommy Dreamer did something he hasn’t done in a while - he won a match!
Striker - Miz and Morrison are like the guys on Facebook and Myspace who hold up a drink like it’s a winning lottery ticket. You know those guys - you hate those guys.

Unless they end up making it an 8 man match again, the only ones with a legitimate chance of winning are MVP and Shelton, with MVP having an edge imo.

So this has been bugging me for a while... any of you that have played Street Fighter IV, where the hell have I seen El Fuerte's victory animation before (specifically the running bicep grab)? Swear I've seen a wrestler or two do it but can't pin down who.

No idea, but it looks familiar to me. Seeing how the character is a blatant rip-off of Curry Man, I'd assume him. Maybe from CM's overseas run?

I too have been playing SFIV, and I noticed alot of characters have some variation of a German suplex.

As for the MITB, my early prediction is (minor SD! Spoilers)
MVP winning it, getting drafted to SD! and then cashing it in to win the ECW Belt
.

I have a feeling the Draft will be somewhat similar to:

Raw:
HHH
Kozlov
Shelton Benjamin (with the US strap)
Evan Bourne
Some random divas

SD!:
CM Punk (with the IC Strap)
Cena
Christian
Some more random divas

ECW:
MVP
Kizarny
THEE Brian Kendrick

Something like that. Basically 1 or 2 really big names, followed by a slew of undercarders. I also figure that Orton walks out WM as the WWE champ & Edge retains the World Strap.
I also figure that Orton walks out WM as the WWE champ & Edge retains the World Strap.
I doubt that highly. With the exception of WM2000, it's a tradition for the face to win the main event, so whatever the case may be (more than likely Orton/HHH) expect the worst.

As much as I want Orton to walk out of WM as champ, I just can't see it happening. At least, not against HHH. Orton is being pushed, but it takes some major stroke to not only walk out of consecutive WMs as a heel champ, but to also be the victor of a feud built on physically attacking a guy's wife. (obviously, the feud will continue, but c'mon... it's WM).

The entire thing is built on HHH's revenge, so couple that with the amount of pull he has and I just can't see it happening.

Also, MITB line-up is really disappoining. I agree with most of you that, at this point, there seems an obvious and clear winner.
With the exception of WM2000, it's a tradition for the face to win the main event
That depends on how you look at X-7 or whatever they called it that year. Austin was the face going in, but was the heel by the end of the match.

Mickie's so cute! Jericho ruled when he came in for those "bop-bop" effects, too. Who was that dude with the long hair primarily to the right during the entire video?

I can't be quite sure, but all signs point to this guy:

UT's promo was pretty great. I've always gotten the feeling that they don't ever try to write things for him. The HBK video seemed to start abruptly.

Honestly, if the WM main events stay Edge/Big Show and Orton/HHH, I think I'll be most excited for UT/HBK.

Yet another hilarious show. DW's non-apology ruled, as did Tenay bitching throughout the show like a jilted lover. DW making great points about the company's faces acting like cowards, including Suicide for attacking guys only when they're tired, while Tenay acted offended, then busted out a new wacky face after stating that what he said made sense was another highlight.

Match-wise, Kiyoshi-Shelley was fine, but we still don't know who is in the Ultimate X - a major selling point for a show happening in a little over a week, which is ridiculous. This week's off the wagon challenge match was another good one, and I liked 3D stepping up for the younger teams. I guess this'll be a way to either write Ray out of the show if he chooses to retire, or perhaps they'll give 3D the belts so they can turn Beer Money a little more easily.

This week's knockouts match had entirely too much shit happening, with a thousand people interfering, a bunch of storylines going on that no one cares about, and a finish based on interference that the referee had to see unless he his vision is shot to hell.

Joe's attempted murder for the second week in a row was hilarious once again. Steiner nearly blowing Joe's cover by knocking the helmet off his head slightly, but not revealing the giant tribal paint job on his face, was hilarious, as was Tenay being offended by this leading to AJ going to jail, while condoning and encouraging Joe after he held a large knife to a man's face. God, what a dick he is. Tenay's completely unlikeable, while DW comes off like a cool guy that you'd like to hang out with a bar. There's no way this actually works at turning DW heel.

Once again, the Memphis-style show-closing brawl ruled. I was overjoyed to see Jeff just beat up Angle with anything he could use - no silly shit like a guitar or a cello, just his fists and random plunder. For the first time in weeks, the Front Line actually got something done to help their cause, even if it took a knife, and the non-wrestling founder of the company to do it. There's still no sense of unity between the Front Line - a problem I expected to be resolved early on, but here we are, months later, and this group fighting for respect are still all basically strangers except for AJ and Joe.

Jarrett - Welcome to TNA Impact. As the founder of TNA, it brings me great remorse to announce that Kurt Angle has been suspended for his actions last week, for one week, without pay!
Tenay - I understand that you’re gonna explain your actions from last week when ya WALKED OFF THE SHOW!
DW - Thanks Mike, last week I said some things and I know I shocked a lot of people. I said some things that were very out of character and things that hurt fans, family, and friends. And I’ve done some soul searching. I’ve looked in my heart, and if I could have last week back, I WOULDN’T CHANGE ANY OF IT. I APOLOGIZE FOR NOTHING. I WAS RIGHT AND ANYONE WHO’S BEEN BETRAYED BY A FRIEND KNOWS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. UNTIL I HEAR DIFFERENTLY, I’M STILL A PART OF THIS ANNOUNCE TEAM AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT, MIKE TENAY. SO CHILL, RELAX, SIT BACK, GRAB A BEER, AND ENJOY THE RIDE!
Tenay - ENJOY THE RIDE!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I can see that the next two hours of you are gonna be about as much fun as an emergency landing in the Hudson. I guess I shouldn’t expect an apology from somebody so professional that he walks off in the middle of a broadcast.
DW - It’s not about us. I made my point, and I feel very comfortable about it.
(after walking in the ring to apparent cheers that we couldn’t hear due to Tenay yelling)Foley - Thank you very much.
(on Suicide)DW - I’ve love to see this guy from start to finish instead of just coming in with these surprise missions.
Tenay - WHAT A DROPKICK FROM SUICIDE!
DW - Yeah, when a guy is worn out and tired, it’ll be a lot easier to dropkick ‘em!
Booker - Peep dis, Jarrett gave away your weekly salary…Front Line’s buying new suits wit yo money!
Angle - NEW SUITS!?
Booker - Why ya always repeating yo-self? NEW SUITS! WIT YO SCRATCH!
DW - Even though Jeff Jarrett has suspended him for one week, KURT ANGLE IS HERE IN THE BUILDING!
Shark Boy - Since you’re looking for a date, I thought I’d throw my net in the water, and see if I could get some fish, or crabs…maybe not crabs. ODB, YOU EVER BEEN EATEN BY A SHARK!?
(after AJ’s music plays with Booker and Steiner in the ring)DW - AJ’s done some stupid things over the past few weeks, but he’d be a complete idiot to walk into this setup! (AJ comes out and gets beaten up) Sometimes ya just gotta be smart enough to know to fight another day.
DW - OH MY GOD! ONE OF THE COPS IS SAMOA JOE!
Tenay - IT’S THE SAMOAN TRIBAL KNIFE!
DW - SAMOA JOE’S FREAKIN’ INSANE! THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR!
Tenay - TOO FAR!? I THINK WE’RE JUST SEEING THE BEGINNING OF SAMOA JOE’S NATION OF VIOLENCE!
DW - I’M SO SICK OF YOU, MIKE TENAY! YOU TREAT THE MAIN EVENT MAFIA LIKE THEY’RE THE ANTI-CHRIST AND YOU CONDONE JOE’S ACTIONS?! LET’S FACE IT - THE MAIN EVENT MAFIA’S THE BEST THING GOING TODAY! EVERYONE IS SO SICK OF YOUR BIAS, MIKE. JUST FACE IT!
Tenay - GET OUT OF YOUR DREAM WORLD AND LOOK AT YOUR MONITOR!
(as AJ is taken to jail)Booker - BUBBA GONNA HAVE YO ASS TONIGHT!
(after watching Joe put a knife to Steiner’s throat and mouth)Tenay - CAN YOU BELIEVE BOOKER T’S ACTIONS!? HE CALLS THE POLICE AND HAS AJ STYLES ARRESTED!
DW - You’re kidding me?! You’re serious. AJ stole his belt that cost over $200,000. AJ’s done nothing but blindside him!
Tenay - HAVE A MATCH AND SETTLE IT IN THE SIX-SIDED RING!
DW - That’s your comeback?
Tenay - THAT’S THE COMEBACK THAT MAKES SENSE!
DW - I can’t deal with this…not tonight. I just can’t look at your face!
Tenay - YOU’RE GONNA PULL THIS CRAP AGAIN!?
Abyss - Dr. Stevie…you know that cartoon Tom and Jerry!? The one with the cat and thed mouse and they’re always fighting and scratching and getting after each other, and at the end of every show, they’re friends again. Huey enlightened me - they’re not fighting - they’re playing! THAT’S REALLY DEEP! WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT THAT!
Stevie - That’s interesting Chris, but I want to talk about the weapons. Have you become the thing that you loath?
Abyss - NO MORE WEAPONS, DR. STEVIE, BETWEEN YOU AND MY GIRL LAUREN - NO MORE WEAPONS!
Foley - Once a wrestler…always a wrestler. It’s in our blood. Jeff, be careful.
Ray - Every time you beat a team, the guy you beat has to leave TNA!
Storm - YOU’RE SMARTER THAN YA LOOK, FAT BOY!
UT's promo was pretty great. I've always gotten the feeling that they don't ever try to write things for him. The HBK video seemed to start abruptly.
Unintentionally, the HBK video package was probably the best part of the thing because it allowed Undertaker to no-sell it. That was awesome! If anybody could no-sell a video package, it would be him. It fit his character completely.

I've decided to do something I don't normally do. For the first time in over a year, I'm watching a full episode of Impact, and then I'm watching Smackdown! I'll give impressions when I'm done.

Edit:

Holy hell, TNA is as dumb as dumb can be. It's like a who's who of washed up WCW / WWE talent. A bunch of dumb WWE parodies / blatant rip-offs (Though Matt Morgan makes a better Batista than even Batista himself). However it held my attention and was never dull, so I guess I see what they're trying to go for. It's like WWE-Lite, only with everything happening so fast there's never really a dull moment.

Watching Smackdown! soon.
