"The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson Wrestling Thread

What's up with the Samoa Joe knife antics? In my nearly 11 years of consistently watching wrestling, I can count the number of times knives came into play on one hand. I'm running out of fingers. I don't like knives in wrestling. It's like how they don't do shootings in wrestling storylines and how the attempted vehicular murder of John Cena by JBL a few months back got a bit of backlash. Murderous intent to that extent doesn't belong in wrestling. The big-ass knife Joe's using is drawing close to that.

We may very well get an Intercontinental Title match at 'Mania.
"I have said all along I am going to do something historic at Wrestlemania, believe me when I tell you-it will blow you away what will happen with JBL at Wrestlemania," he wrote.

JBL also said in a blog post last week that he was going to appear on Raw to discuss his plans for WrestleMania. However, he did not appear on the show. As it turns out, the segment was dropped due to time constraints.

Regarding JBL's proclamation, WWE has plans for him to feud with CM Punk over the Intercontinental Championship. His angle with Punk was set to kick off this past Monday on Raw, but as noted, was dropped from the show due to time constraints. This also explains why Punk was not seen during the program.

Last night, we exclusively posted the production script for this past Monday's Raw. The script called for JBL to cut an in-ring promo, saying he was going to walk into his home state of Texas at WrestleMania XXV as the new Intercontinental Champion. Interim Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero was going to grant JBL a non-title match against CM Punk on that night's Raw, telling him he would get a title shot the next week on Raw if he could beat Punk.

According to the script, JBL defeats Punk by disqualification, thus earning his title shot the next week on Raw. Considering Punk is already set to compete in the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania, a title change appears likely.

The JBL/Punk segment was originally scheduled to take place right before the big segment at the top of the second hour featuring Triple H, Randy Orton and his lawyers. However, it was pulled in favor of the short Divas tag match pitting Mickie James & Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix & Jillian Hall. Furthermore, the Divas segment was originally scheduled to take place before the John Cena vs. Edge main event.

Taken verbatim, here is the entire script regarding the JBL/Punk segment, which should take place on this Monday's edition of Raw.

* JBL Music and Entrance (in white limo)

* JBL Promo: Shawn Michaels isn't the only one with WrestleMania aspirations. I believe it is my destiny to do something historic on April 5th and after watching clips of Steamboat last week, I now know what it is — walk into my home state of Texas as the NEW Intercontinental Champion. I will bring honor and prestige back to that Title and have what will become the greatest Intercontinental title match of all time. Earlier tonight I went to Vickie Guerrero who told me if I could beat CM Punk in a Non-Title Match tonight; I'd face him for the Title next week. That is what you call controlling your own destiny — something most people including everyone here don't have the backbone to do.
CM Punk was to come out, leading to the non-title match and JBL winning via DQ to earn his title shot.

Who wants to do the legwork and find out when the last WM IC match was? I'm going to guess and say at least 20 but probably earlier.

I could see Punk wrestling two matches in one night. I actually think those two could put on a good, rough match. Even better, make it a triple threat with
Regal
.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see
the returning Evan Bourne
get one of the remaining spots in the MiTB match.

I'm fairly certain it was 18, RVD vs Regal.

We've had this discussion before. Nearly a decade ago. But then, like now, and every year in between, the IC title has meant as much as a pair of wrestling boots in terms of prestige and honor.

I look at it as a way of making a wrestler's carryon bag about 7 pounds heaver, and little else.

It was WrestleMania 18. RVD defeated Regal to win the IC Title.

It was indeed WM18, the opening match. And the IC title used to mean something and I still track it like it has prestige. I like following the IC division more than the main event titles. I like seeing the up & comers give it there all. Where as the ME guys for the most part seem lazier.

I just got my Kindle 1 in today and decided to break it in with Bret Hart's autobiography.

Am I missing something? I've heard people ranting and raving that it's one of the best wrestling autobiographies out but so far it's all over the place and seems to gloss over a ton of details of his life/training (which is replaced with match details). Doesn't seem like it's on par with Foley's first book or even Jericho's book.

I liked Bret's book, but I don't think it was the best wrestling biography that I've read, I would leave that for Foley's first book. IMO Bret's book does get better when he tells the stories of Japan, and really steps up once he's in the WWF.

Started going through my stack of ROH DVDs suggested by Zen Davis (man, I really miss that dude). Half way through "Race To the Top Tournament Night 2" and hot damn is it awesome. Lite on story, but the action is a nice reprieve from the super generic WWE style and the super quick, super random TNA bouts.

Can't wait for that ROH show.

So, I'm going to the house show this Friday in College Station where they're advertising Jeff Hardy & Triple H vs. Edge and The Big Show. It was previously supposed to be Edge vs. Hardy for the title. There's also Undertaker vs. somebody, I forgot who, but I doubt they're important.
What ever happened to Zen?
he got a temp ban for something i think in the wrestling thread, came back and started shit talking the mods and the people who "got him the ban," proceeded to open a thread dedicated to himself.... guess someone wasnt a fan of all those things cause hes gone

Balls Mahoney is probably one of the last people I'd try and screw over.

Koko B. Ware is rumored to be going into the Hall Of Fame this year. I know there's politics involved, but I can probably think of a half-dozen guys who should go in before Koko - starting with Ted DiBiase Sr., Jake Roberts, Rick Rude, The Honky Tonk Man, Owen Hart, and the Von Erichs as a family.

Don't forget Randy Savage.

They need to just say whatever the fuck he did to piss Vince off. This is ridiculous.

KOKO B WARE?!

What the hell did he ever do that was significant? Other than Sing "Piledriver" and run around with a bird

Koko B Ware's significance is his race. Sorry to go there, but I see no other reason, at all, to see him inducted. Might as well be "Ken Patera" in terms of significant performances in pro wrestling.

If he is inducted, I'm looking forward to how they portray the highlights of Koko's career.

"Here's Koko jobbing to Rick Rude. Here's Koko jobbing to Jake Roberts. Here's Koko participating in the opening match of Survivor Series and being eliminated first, jobbing to The Warlord. Here's the period of his career where we took away Frankie, the only memorable thing about him, and put him in a mediocre tag team with Owen Hart called "High Energy", which ironically described nothing about Koko B. Ware's matches or character."

I really hope Michael Hayes inducts him.

It won't be much more than this.

Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for the Scotty Goldman tribute.

Huge MITB qualifier on ECW tomorrow night, with Dolph Ziggler, Vladimir Koslov, Khali, Tommy Dreamer, William Regal, and Christian advertised so far (though the description says "tons of superstars".

I kinda liked Kizarny.

I still think Kizarny could've worked as a heel. Especially if it meant they trotted out the heel doink music
This Taker/HBK segment is excellent, but Taker's got a case of mush-mouth tonight.
botch-a-mania a'comin...
Kizarny got released.
Oh what the fuck is wrong with the WWE? They hype him for months, use him two or three times, sit on it for half a year, and then can him before the new C show Superstars comes around where he could at least do something for a while.

Same thing with Colt Cabana. What morons.

Is it safe to think that Triple H will be reenacting the Austin/Pillman home invasion tonight? Only reason I can think they would show Orton's wife.

HUNTER'S GOT A GUN!!!

That's 7, though, right? Is there one for this week's SD I missed in the spoilers I didn't read?

Also, Koko really does a disservice to the Hall of Fame. He was a helluva wrestler, and his match w/ Martel is one of my forgotten Wrestlemania favorites. But the fact is that he's not really well remembered as a "Hall of Fame" kinda guy. It'd be like inducting "Power and Glory" into the hall.

good call

Why do they continually call it the 25th anniversary of wrestlemania, when the first one was March 1985 (24 years ago)? It's the 25th wrestlemania, but only the 24th anniversary....

Orton's wife is a terrible actress.

EDIT: scratch that, his whole family is.

EDIT 2: Way to sell getting thrown through a glass window, Orton!
