Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
Anyone know what the TIV is for NHL 08 (PS3)?
Wasn't able to call at the moment and I wanted to mark the new thread
And I got into a car accident while coming back from buying some games to flip at GS at BBV... which totally kills all the money I've saved/generated by flipping games. sigh*
Most people ignore this very real risk when they are calculating their profit from flipping. There are a lot of other costs associated with driving outside of just the gas you use. It's amazing to me how aloof everyone is to the dangers and true costs associated with driving.

I actually got into an accident on way to Blockbuster to pick up some Wii points last Wednesday (it was on the way to somewhere else I was going, so I can't entirely blame the Wii Points). I was stopped at a light and got rammed by an SUV that was going 20-30 MPH and forced my car into the car in front of me. It is now a week later and the person that hit me (a lawyer) isn't providing their insurance information. I am sitting on a totalled car until they confirm that they have insurance or don't have insurance. In the end I know I'll end up with money one way or the other, but I'm going to have to front the money for a new car myself. Fun stuff to deal with when your neck and back are bothering you and you can't afford to miss work.

Can you say 'soft tissue damage'? You my friend could be a wealthy man.

I'm curious what NHL 08 for the 360 also fetches.....debating to trade that in, great game, but 09 is around the corner now.

I still have The Bigs to dump for 360, along with a CHOOPS 2K7 to rid myself of....I wonder what those fetch. I'm curious to see if my Blockbuster got the MGS bundle also...not that I need it.

Also, anyone see PSN cards showing up yet? I know Meijer has them, but that is it.
Can you say 'soft tissue damage'? You my friend could be a wealthy man.
You've obviously never had to deal with a serious accident. After lawyer fees you're lucky if you even recoup your actually expenses. I was in a more serious accident before where my wife was out of work for a few months and we were both in physical therapy for about six months. After it was all said and done we ended up with a few thousand dollars for pain and suffering. This was with one of the best lawyers in the area. I 've never met anyone that's ever been in a serious accident that wouldn't have paid ten times the amount of money they got to be able to go back in time and make it all go away.

I'm going to try to get back into the flipping scene and I was wondering if you guys had seen The World Ends With You, Persona 3: FES, or Rock Band in stock at any of your GameRushes.

They're the three most important games that I'd be flipping towards.

Thanks.

I just picked up TWEWY on Sunday. They had two left at the Canton/Plymouth GR.

omg man that really sucks, same for Nikadimas with his first accident. I hope everything's fine and you end up getting your claim filed and all damages paid for. That guy's an asshole for not providing insurance information. I just finished calling GEICO today and luckily the woman who hit me took on full responsibility... so I'll just have to wait for an inspector to come and provide an estimate.

:whistle2:( Unfortunately we are the sad minority that experiences these unpleasantries while going around on our CAG adventures.

Out of all those 3 games, I've only seen Rock Band (what system are you looking for?). That's in the NYC region. Oh man, if that had Persona 3 I'd so go for that!! None of TWEWY either, although are you talking about the Wii or DS version?

found The Club (ps3) for $15 at local target. The TIV is still $30 right? Anyone played the game and how is it? I'm not sure if I gonna play it first or just flip it.
...I was wondering if you guys had seen...Rock Band in stock at any of your GameRushes.
Rock Band is always in stock at the GR's I visit. I've got the Wii version on preorder, I pick it up this Saturday at midnight. After flipping, it costs me all of ~$75 after tax.

Haven't seen the other two games, but then I haven't been looking.

Obviously, I'm enrolled in a prestigious law school and through my internship I have seen people walk away with hundreds of thousands of dollars off the basis of "soft tissue damage" claims.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but it isn't the case every time.

Back on track, I just found out my closest GS has 2 copies of SST ps3 and Stranglehold 360 CE, that b2g1 needs to come soon :(

I just got back my $200 in credit from when an employee stole it a couple months ago (I posted about it a long time ago). I haven't flipped since I lost it, and I'm not sure if I'm even going to mess with it anymore. I don't really need the credit as I have plenty of games to play and only a few 360 games that interest me for the rest of the year, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, and Halo Wars. This credit will pay for those games, and I think that will be the end of flipping for me.
I just got back my $200 in credit from when an employee stole it a couple months ago (I posted about it a long time ago).
I could go back and find your old post, but...your credit was in their system, right? Or did the employee get the gift/value card number?
There are a few Strangleholds at the Downtown Minneapolis GS (the one in Block E.) You can get there on the Hiawatha Light Rail.
Thank you sir. Might make a little trip that-a-way today.

Alright so Rock Band and TWEWY has been seen at GR.

Thanks a lot guys, and the Canton GR is only about 15 minutes away. :D

I'll just get Persona 3 from somewhere else I guess.

You might want to see if you can pick it up now. Our store got it in yesterday and put it out to sell immediately. Normally anything that's sent to the store that is not to be sold yet will have stickers and warnings everywhere saying don't sell til xx/xx/08, but no such warning on the Rock Band bundle (plus most stores will probably assume it's supposed to be out since the other versions are already out).
I'll just get Persona 3 from somewhere else I guess.
Doesn't hurt to ask for it if you're there anyhow. Warner1281, can BB/GR special order games? I swear I was told this by a manager last week, but may be getting my stores crossed.
You might want to see if you can pick it up now.
Will do, thanks. Do I need to worry about my preorder being sold to someone else? Seems like I've read complaints about that.
Ah, no, not even close... Also, while I've hit a few BB's hard I haven't come close to clearing out any GS stores. I have flipped all of 1 copy of Stranglehold so far. I'm in an area where there really aren't any other people that I know of doing BB->GS (and vice versa) flipping. This was true even when I had a GR about. There's another CAG who does this a bit in my state but he is in a different area.
Just a hunch and some of what you were saying seemed to fit directly with what I was seeing at my BBs/GSs.

I know someone else around my hood is doing it, show yourself if you dare! Hehe, jk. I'm always up for a little friendly competition anyway, wouldn't mind trading hints/tips on good deals around town if you're out there.
I'm curious what NHL 08 for the 360 also fetches.....debating to trade that in, great game, but 09 is around the corner now.
Ditto for the PS3 version..
As for TIV on The Bigs, it seems a lot of people asked for it but no one ever posted it. I guess I'll find out tomorrow but it is probably no better than $12 (Wiki quote from May). So I'm probably better off bringing it to GS for the $7 + bonus.
BBV TIV for The Bigs was $12.00 last time I checked so you're better off going straight to GS if you haven't already.

^^ Ditto to the guy at the top of the page.

Special orders: Nope, no stores control their own ordering... all controlled by corporate .

Rock Band Wii: It depends on how organized your store is. Stores that have their shit together will know that one of them is a pre-order and set it in the back. Stores that don't know what they're doing when it comes to pre-orders won't know any better and will sell it if someone else wants it. Your best bet is to call them, ask them if they got it in, and then remind them that you pre-ordered it and to make sure they hold it for you until whenever you can pick it up.

which CAG bought all the strangleholds for PS3, currently not available online, anyway to use back order? I was going to use the 26% discount...

"Sales tax" charged on store credit purchases is really bothering me.

On trades (credit) I do not receive a tax "credit" some members are reporting. But on a purchase with pure credit, I am paying just shy of 9%.
Gamestop/EB and Gamecrazy do not give tax credits nor charge tax on credit sales.

Would CAGs please post which state you are in receiving the tax credit on trades?

Thanks in advance...this just seems, well....wrong.

Don't bother questioning it. They follow each individual states/city accounting rules. Gamespot wouldn't be stupid enough to charge you tax when they aren't supposed to. Their books would be all fucked and as a public company, that wouldn't fly.

Those of you desperately looking for a copy of Pikmin 2, I went to a local blockbuster yesterday and convinced the manager to sell me a rental only copy of Pikmin 2 for the rental price $7 and then buy it for an additional $7.

So I got a copy with original case and instructions for $14!!! :)

Thought i'd share, I know a copy of Pikmin 2 on eBay rarely sells for less than $50-$70!

Go to yellowpages.com and call every blockbuster that shows up within your area to see if they have a copy!

This belongs in Bragging Rights, it isn't an actual deal that people can get in on in the same way you did.
how did you go about it?
Ask what the "keep-it" price is. If it's $7, pay to rent the game then tell them immediately after you want to keep it. You pay the rental price and then an additional $7 to own it.
Anybody know how much Two Worlds 360 cost at blockbuster?
I think its $29.99, they offered me $15 trade in credit the other day.

Yep, its store policy, if the manager's nice, they'll convert it to a used game without even making you renting it . However if you plan on keeping it past the "keep it" date, it will automatically charge your account, and if your account doesnt have any credit on it, the card on file.

I had all my accounts switched over to prepaid debit cards with not enough $ on them, so it'll automatically go straight to a negative balance on my account for me to pay the next time I go in.

WHOA, where do all these peeps come in here stepping on my territory?!?!?

J/K of course. I've never had a problem at that store, so hopefully it doesn't get too crowded with CAGs. Just need to ride it out for the summer until I go back to school anyway. And I've noticed that store actually has the best selection of games out of all retail stores in the area. Although, they just built a GS on Mi Ave/Beck and will be building another at Ford/Lilley, so it'll make those trips a little shorter.
Sorry, i'm a newb in this forum, and didn't know where I should post this!
Actually, I disagree with SDC, the ability to convert a rental to a purchase is a deal that is often forgotten, so the occasional reminder seems appropriate because I don't recall if this little fact is in the thread notes (page#1)...

However I think this is also a rather selfish act as once the game is removed from rental no one else can actually rent and play any of the older classics / gems, so canvasing all your local GR/BB's to make a buck just seems distasteful.

But saying that, it is BB's policy and it's their own fault for not valueing there own stock more carefully.

And I also have to admit to being a hypocrite because I have converted brand new rentals to puchases in the past when the idiots didn't get forsale copies even though I had preordered the game in question.

Q. By calling myself a hypocrite will I receive a timeout like last time:imwithst:

A couple of weeks ago I thought I had found a copy of Pikmin 2 in the used games section at my local GR (marked $14.99). I take the case up to the counter, and the employee spends about 5 minutes looking for it and can't find it.:bomb: I left my name and number, and he put on the game case, just in case they come across it.
Not sure if this wil help but in regards to the spidey BR that was bundled with the 40gb ps3, I saw a used one at BB today at 34.99, so it could be a potential flip for you if you have stores with the B2G3 free ;)

Really? That has to be an old sticker as that's the price of Spiderman 3 BR brand new. Does Blockbuster take DVD trade ins if you don't have the second disc, ie the non-movie disc(s)?
While at a BB today I followed up on the potential of BluRay trading and the results are not pretty. First off the lady said that any DVD trade had to include all discs and could not be movie only which means I couldn't go back and get the other Spidermans to flip. Second, I wouldn't want to anyway because:

BluRay TIV for Spiderman 3 is $3.50
I know DVD trades get little return, but I figured the high cost and aura of high technology would help BRs retain value. Guess not.

She also said Rambo First Blood on BluRay is 25 and not on sale for 16 like 2 & 3. I didn't see anything on the receipt about it being a franchise store and the for sale values of Beautiful Katamari (10), Meet the Robinsons 360 (7) and Virtua Tennis 3 360 (10) were all in line with the main GR I go to. Because I have a GR across the street from me I never go to this BB even though it's only 5 minutes away and had been thinking of adding this store for trade ins, but after all the smooth talking I did she turned into one of IO's Junior Detectives when she saw my $200 credit on my VC. She looked suspicious and asked if I had traded in a system. I just told her I traded in a bunch of games since all I play is COD and GTA, but she still gave me the eye. I must be off my game.

I keep track of all my trades in a spreadsheet. I also list the smart employees and the good managers. Maybe we should come up with a list of people to avoid like the junior detectives.

You would think so, but I have worked for a public company in an exec position.
BB stores here are inconsistent in this policy with other publicly held companies within the state.

On a side note BB would not allow a DVD to be purchased for $5 (single) as part of their 4/$20 deal last year. My state governs if a retailer advertises 4/$20, the consumer has the "right" to buy 1 for $5. BB POS was not set up for this and had to be manually overriden. Mistakes do happen.

I will be sending an e-mail to BB corporate.

does BB take trade ins during the night? I ran into some employee and told me they don't take trade ins at night, probably he is a slacker. This was around 8-9 ish for vdo games.

Depends, some stores require the manager to be around to supervise.

What 26% discount?

On a sidenote I guess Ill be checking out my blockbusters for a couple of tradeable games to GS to pair up with my two free COD2s and the extra 360 mic from AI that I have. Should be able to turn about 15-20 of BB credit into about 35-40 in GS credit.

What are some good games to make credit from GS to BBV besides stranglehold (ps3) and Sega Tennis?

What are the best games to make more credit from GS to BBV IF the B2G1 ever happens?

They just told me that Edge is no longer stacking with Trade-2-Get-$10 at GameStop. also, Chromehounds and EDF2017 both dropped to $1.50 a pop.

The kicker is I had spares of those just sitting around from the last BBV BOGO that I just found today.
