Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

SPECIAL NOTE (B1G1 free on $14.99 and under used games through August 4th):
All used games under $14.99 are buy one get one free through August 4th NOW OVER.

The second post has games that you may want to trade in to Gamestop to transfer some credit from BB to GS. Unfortunately with the end of the $10 extra promo at Gamestop this is much less useful than before. Some people may have the $15 bonus coupon or want to use the current GS deal (trade 3 get an extra 10%, trade 4 get an extra 20%, trade 5 get an extra 30%) so we'll keep that post going until the B1G1 free ends at Blockbuster.

Even though the B1G1 sale is now over, I'm leaving this info up for a few days for those who bought stuff and still want to trade it in to Gamestop (you have till the 10th there).

SPECIAL NOTE #2 (DS Lite's and new DS games now available at most BB stores!):
Starting just on July 15th, most Blockbuster stores got shipments of DS Lites and a wide assortment of new DS games that they've never had for sale in the past. Titles include NSMB, Professor Layton, Mario Party DS, and High School Musical ;).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are currently taking preorders for NCAA 09, Madden 09, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, Soul Calibur IV, and a few others (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [hightlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. They just started in mid July selling DS Lites at most stores as well. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by many regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.
And if you guys have ever played a game like Runescape or Diablo(who hasn't?) give Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony a try too. Surprisingly, it is a lot of fun even though it only has a 7.4/10 on GameRankings.
I've been looking for this forever. I think it was $5 at Best Buy or somewhere a while back. I couldn't find it there and have not seen it at the 8-10 BB's I've been too since B1G1 started. It isn't like Manhunt 2/Star Trek/VT 3 where every store has a converted rental available.

I've found two copies of Dungeon Siege in 2 stores total. The first one had it for display, but the second one had it hidden under a stack of games. The 3rd store I visited didn't have it. Good luck finding it. You could try asking a manager to convert a rental copy into a used copy.

And I just noticed. I haven't found one VT3 in the 5 stores that I've visited. Don't know how you guys have found so many. I've seen one Star Trek and way too many Manhunt 2's.

Edit - I just edited out the word "though" about 4 times. Using that word way too much today. It makes my sentences sound awkward.

just got back from trading in two fatal inertia's..... not bad considering i got two copies for like 13 bucks each from amazon. I pre ordered soul calibur and they had the free art frame, the Girl also gave me a free GTA 4 art frame which was awesome.
also stopped by starbucks for a free vianno drink which tasted like crap... love being a CAG'er tho.

Over the past 2 days I have found 2 gold mine BB's with alot of good games to trade with the coupon. I have bought 20 games total and still have like 8 more to buy...but I am tapped out of BB credit and have a bunch of GS credit...looks like i'll have to head over to Best Buy and see if they have any Octomania's.

Friday TIVs -

:wii: HC: BftP - $23
:ps3: HC: BftP - $30

BTW, saw some Kingston flash memory at a GR yesterday. SD, 2GB microSD, 1GB USB, 2GB USB. I think all the 2GB stuff was $19.99, while the 1GB was $9.99. Just another thing we can spend credit on, but I still wish it was cheaper. ;)
My store had the flash memory as well. I'd still much rather have the Amazon gift cards.
huh? sorry I haven't been following the thread shenanigans lately.

Certain stores sell Amazon, and other retailer gift cards. Its a test market thing, like how other stores sell electronics, have Kinkos, Starbucks, and other stores inside as well.

it's ymmv...they usually put a sign that says cash only for gift cards...when the stores around me had them...i usually bought a lot of the gift cards with credit...it depends on the employee...some let me use credit..others didn't...kinda sux though coz for some reason, they took them out of all the stores in my area...:cry:

Yeah, they had 1 GB thumbdrives and micro SD cards for $9.99 ea., 2 gig stuff was $19.99 at a BBV I visited the other day. Totally forgot to mention it, as I was too pissed about the GS stuff.

hmm, 2 gb for one octomania isn't bad at all.

I know people are putting the current GS deal down compared to the $5 bonus deal, but I did pretty good tonight. I took $32.50 worth of BB stuff and got $60 for it at GS. That's about a 1.85 ratio which puts it a little worse than using the $15 promo but probably a little better than using the old $10 one. Plus there is a much wider selection of games to use (every store I've got to has had Iridium Runners and multiple Golden Compass, Bee Movie, Manhunt 2 (PS2, not PSP), and I've found lots of other stuff like Spyro, Cars Mater National, THPG, etc, that work well too.

And I've just bought the BB stuff while I was out looking for PSP games for myself (not too much luck with that so far - the store I was at tonight had all of 1 single PSP game for sale). I still have another 11 games to bring to GS (two stacks each with an Iridium/Golden Compass/Bee Movie + some other filler). I plan on hitting the Mall with 2 GS stores in it tomorrow and converting another $43.50 into about $80 more at GS.

This deal has the potential to be better than the extra 10 deal when you consider that the games don't have to be current gen. There seems to be a plethora of Iridium Runners, Meet the Robinsons, and The Golden Compass at every single store. This deal is even sweeter for those who have GSs that are participating in the extra %50 trade-ins.

Only problem now, how do we get BBV credit?

It's actually pretty easy to get a 1 to 1 flip from GS to BBV (no longer able to gain credit both ways), and gain some more credit when flipping from BBV to GS. All of this is ironic since we're usually flipping games from GS to BBV for credit.
Only problem now, how do we get BBV credit?
I dunno... I had done very little GS->BBV flipping even when the coupons were active and I still have a few hundred left at BB. And that doesn't count my Coke Rewards gift cards (probably about $125) which I consider as separate money from my general gaming stuff. Basically, I could keep running Blockbuster's junk game inventory over to GS as long as I can stand it. But that won't be for much longer - after my run tomorrow I may do one more set just because I want to keep searching for PSP games at BB (and can't pass up buying the Iridium/Golden Compass pair when I see then everywhere). The upside to all of this is that my trading profile at Blockbuster has been very low recently but my purchasing profile has been through the roof. They are happy to see me now ;).

But there are regular Joes out there finally hitting up this B1G1 sale. I went to one of the more heavily trafficked stores tonight and their B1G1 rack was getting bare. I think that's why I'm not finding the good PSP stuff any more - even those Manhunt 2's are getting bought up by "regular" folk. No one is touching the Golden Compass's, Bee Movies, and other stuff like that though so there's always something to get for GS even if I can't find anything for myself.

I mean, I thought about how it was convenient for me to get new games from my local Blockbuster and I'm sure they will get all the big stuff like Animal Crossing, Guitar Hero World Tour and/or Rock Band 2, etc... But then I figured if I can turn $35 of my BB credit into $60 at GS, well, then, I can just buy those things at Gamestop instead ;). It is kind of ironic - now that Blockbuster is actually getting good stuff in stock along came all these promos to convert all our credit from there to Gamestop. It's good for Blockbuster though - they've cleared out way more converted rentals than they would have otherwise.

------------------------------------------------------------

All these copies of Iridium Runners (and all 3 I bought are absolutely mint) made me wonder about it a bit:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/iridiumrunners

So it came out just this year! That explains the mint condition of most copies at BBV and the higher than expected trade-in value at Gamestop. it looks like it was released as a budget title ($20) and has decent reviews for what it is. I'd almost be tempted to keep one but I know I'll never play it - I have a huge enough backlog of AAA PS2 titles that I'll probably never play .

ok, I guess I'm off to work. I'll be making stops at Albertsons (convert change into amazon cert), Best buy (2 or 3 octomania w/ 10%coupon). 2 BBVs to trade in octomanias and grab $46 worth or flippable games. And then to GS to trade in and hopefully find a Nyko Wii sensor bar and power supply, which the Nyko site says my local GS carries them, and also the GS website.

Found some nice PSP games last night. Gun Showdown, Manhunt2, Harvest Moon, Patapon. ALL are disc only. This one particluar BB must throw out the original cases because most games are in clear cases and mispriced.
There was also a Zelda TP(gamecube), disc only.
Going to check a few other stores before I lay out hard earned credit for disc only games.
Trying to stretch out last of BB credit without having to stoop to getting Octomania at BestBuy.

finally picked up something for me: Metal Slug anthology PS2..i've been wanting this for a while but never got to actually buying it...so i only got 2 things for myself from blockbuster during my tenure as a flipper (this and NBA 2k8 360 - which is 24.99)

i keep seeing iridium runner/golden compass combos, but i keep passing on them because i didn't know which other games to get and i already have a pair of GC/IR sitting at home waiting for 3 other games to go with them :/

sorry, that's not what i meant...nba 2k8 is still 24.99, but i decided to just pick it up anyway with all the credit i had

my bad on that comment :whistle2:#

I've been thinking lately, I really miss my ps2, sold it through cag $60.

And GS has the mgs4 bundles in stock. Soooooo, maybe I sell my PS3 here on cag. And when I get the MGS4 bundle sell the DS3 and MGS4 game (hopefully $80 at least).

But this all depends what I can get for a 40 gb PS3. And how much credit I can build up in a week or so.

Anyone care to help me out, I'm not too knowledgeable on selling/buying on cag.

Orrrrrrrrr, is it much more economical for me to just buy a PS2 at GS, but thats another system I'll have to stick somewhere + all the cords. Not the option I want to take.

Ahhhh f*ck it, after crunching some numbers its not worth it. Oh well, I guess if I want BC I'll just get the real thing, a PS2.

Speaking of Iridium Runners Io, have you seen the underside of the disc? It is covered with... Iridium!

I think I may not get a PS3 and just keep my PS2 for the same reason. I thought maybe if I could get one of the release systems (20 or 60 gb) with the emotion engine I would but nah. I'll reconsider it in a few years when they release a slim PS3. I love my slim PS2:D

Now, I'm debating on if I should try to make an offer to the store manager at a couple of BB/GR around me to clean out their $14.99 selections. I'm cool with several of them and I've had two of them jokingly make me an offer to just buy out these titles. It was funny because the second time they actually said something like, "Give me 200 bucks and you can have all of them." which I smiled because it was three plastic bins full of stuff that would easily get me a ton of GS credit.
I got myself another 2 Fatal Inertias for $20 total.
So you're the guy who keeps outbidding me.

Hey io, when this thread hits 5000 posts (5000 posts!!!) can we have a new one? Please? And don't you guys go and drive up the post counts to race to 5000.

I'm watching.

I would be paying in cash my good sir because I don't have anymore BB credit at the moment. Also, just to be nice because based on what I saw game wise they had at least 400 bucks worth of stuff left at one store.

I thought about this flip, but passed. After 2 weeks of burning myself out mega flipping, not to mention what will certainly be more crooked looks from flunkly store clerks, I just can't bring myself to find 10 PS2 games to make $25-$30 in GS credit. Too much work, zero motivation at this point. The $10 bonus @ GS was great though, $10 in BBV credit converted to $20 in GS credit on just 2 games. Then flipping crap like Blacksite 51 back to BBV for $33, when it only cost $17 in GS credit, I considered a good use of my time and gasoline. Conversely, finding 3 or 4 dozen PS2 games just to make a few added bucks in GS credit would just be work at this point. The earlier flips were actually somewhat fun on top of being profitable.....

It seems like you're never going to be flipping from BBV->GS anymore then. The B1G1 and an extra $10 deal will probably never happen again. Still making money like this flipping from BBV to GS is a god send if you ask me. Breaking even or losing $2-3 store credit when flipping from BBV to GS was actually exciting back in the day.

yup once a blue moon deal huh? both sides overlapping with deals, I was actually using the $15 more coupon for this deal, still got a few more games to unload at GS

I feel the opposite, the rush on 360 games was like work. Get as much as possible as quick as possilbe, then the deal was extend, so my range of how far i'd go grew.
Now that i got a bunch of credit, i'm enjoying searching for those PS2 and PSP gems more causually.

I just wish that the area that has around 5 BBV wasn't 20-25 miles away from me. I only have 1 and not only is it not a GR (actually none of the ones I have been to are,) it never even ran the B1G1 deal. Lame

Still making money like this flipping from BBV to GS is a god send if you ask me. Breaking even or losing $2-3 store credit when flipping from BBV to GS was actually exciting back in the day.
True, the glory days are probably over (for now). No doubt, I was spoiled by the $10 promo, we all were. I agree the current PS2 BBV--->GS flip makes money, I guess I have enough credit @ both places to last for a year at least. Hopefully something profitable to exploit, with less running around than the current PS2 flip, will present itself in the coming months. In the interest of full disclosure, I am wrapping-up my last flip, where I spent $50 in cash to convert to $115 in BBV Credit. Granted, I had to spend $50 @ Best Buy (5 copies of Octomania), but the $65 profit took all of 20 minutes and less than a gallon of gas. I'll take the convenience of a 2.3x return and using cash, over a 1.8x return which takes time and gas. Probably not an approach for everyone on this board, but I'm fine with it, plus I actually have time for playing games;)

I'm just waiting for a GS promo to transfer credit back to BB. Now that I've emptied all the credit at BB, I actually want to go purchase stuff there

Hopefully I can make $200 in GS credit last for the next 5 months without having to spend any cash on games. Thank goodness there's a lull in big releases, at least until October.
finally picked up something for me: Metal Slug anthology PS2..i've been wanting this for a while but never got to actually buying it...so i only got 2 things for myself from blockbuster during my tenure as a flipper (this and NBA 2k8 360 - which is 24.99)

i keep seeing iridium runner/golden compass combos, but i keep passing on them because i didn't know which other games to get and i already have a pair of GC/IR sitting at home waiting for 3 other games to go with them :/
Was this at the BBV in Cameron Village? I passed on that game b/c I didn't want to end up flipping it. BTW have you traded a lot off Pleasant Valley on Glenwood?

I'm far too lazy to keep going from BBV to GS with last-gen games. I'm quite content with a 6x flip of $50 -> $300, espescially since it didn't cost me anything in real money other than gas. I've still got $70 at GS that I'm waiting for a decent way to spend.

Someone find me the best (and most fun) way to spend $70 in GS credit. I've got a 360, a Wii, a PS2, and an Edge card. HELP SPEND JJ'S $70!

Im wondering, what exactly do they do with all the inserts and manuals? When they do sell an original case with the insert, the manual for me is always missing. And for those blockbuster cased games, did they just happen to throw away the whole thing?

I wouldn't doubt that they just throw them away. Like all these other companies that just throw stuff away whether it be penny guides or the day's bagels no one bought. I believe someone else said that BBV throws away the game cases they originally come with to replace them with the security cases, or something to that extent.

I would love to work at BBV part time and see the kind of stuff I could snag that would go to the dumpster. Hm also GS to get those guides and insider information on the future deals. I did see a booklet of future deals with all the coupons in it behind the counter for the next few months.
