Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

So is the Fullerton store. Nothing of note in either store - all of the good stuff was cleared out to other area stores, and what remains are old sports games and crappy DVD's.

If you mean used, that game has been 9.99 since the last b1g1 =)

My store is not closing, but we're putting books on sale(I'm assuming stuff they couldn't sell for our new top 10/20 whatever novel section, freaking morons) and everything is like 75%~ off. We also made a display table tonight for....snuggies. Some kind of plush robe/blanket thing, it's fucking embarrassing. I hope I get fired for not making enough sales, every week I hear another stronger assertion about shit like that(of course, actual work ethic and efficiency never comes in to play). They're supposedly doing better, that's more from cost cutting than making more money, but they run my store like a 2 year old would.

What, has something happened? No? I check here every so often and I don't think there's been anything going on since June except what seemed to be a very limited new set of POG games.

My wife and daughter actually bought one of these a few weeks ago. Had I known they had them at BBV I would have made them wait and spend credit! (Though I think I only have $3 or so now).

Changing topics: it seems like a lot of stores are closing recently :whistle2:s... It almost seems to be on the scale of the HWV/GC closings but I certainly don't ever remember there being a press release or any other sort of news about massive BBV closings.

A BBV near my work closed down in August. The manager of the store said that it was at that location for 20 years. The strange thing is that there are no other video rental stores (BBV or others) within close proximity. Although the supermarket at the same shopping center does have a Redbox vending unit. I guess Netflix and Redbox are really hurting the traditional b&m rental stores.

BBV did that to themselves when they did not grow with the changes. their prices where set based on a high cost margin for VHS, but when the industry changed to DVD the cost dropped from an average of $60.00 per movie to under $10.00. They should have seen the writing on the wall and approach change with new ideas and lower cost to their customers instead of taking advantage of their quasi-monopolistic situation.

For any DFW CAGer interested the location of Hwy 80 and Beltline is closing they stopped renting movies as for Saturday and started the CLOSING STORE sale Sunday Morning, all remaining new games and movies have been boxed and send to other locations, I think they are just going to put on sale what was available for renting, still most of the prepacks are gone at least the new one, that's it for BB in my area as the second most close to me it SUCKS BIG TIME.

I picked up Transformers ROTF and Wolverine yesterday at one of my local Blockbusters (Winder, GA) for $9.99 and $14.99 respectively. The guy at the counter was shocked when the games rank up at those prices because he had apparently just done a price sweep that morning. I actually lucked out because the Transformers had apparently just arrived from another store. :)

Son of a bitch! I was just at a closing BBV last night that had a copy marked 49.99, so I passed on it. They did have a PS2 copy for 14.99, however.

For those who are haunted by the basterdization of their childhood memories of what the Transformers should like it is a pretty decent flip to Amazon(19.75) and a little less at Toys R Us(15). Wolverine is holding around $20 TIV, keeping an eye on that one.

Good news. I called that store and not only do they have 2 copies of Wolverine, they're holding them both. On my way out to get them. Finally I get the game I've been after for under $20!

If I had any credit left @ Blockbuster, I would probably grab a copy for flipping, but definitely not for playing. I'm kinda debating keeping my copy of Uncharted now that I've finally finished it.

Thing is, is it just me or was Uncharted brutal on even the easy setting?

You're kidding right? Crushing difficulty was just right. I can't even imagine playing it on easy.

Playing it on easy would be just like watching a movie and pressing a few buttons, it's no longer a game. Did you just run n gun?

Actually no, but I did repeat ALOT of spots ALOT. I found the game to be repetitive at best and not the 'greatest thing ever' like so many claim it to be.

All it was to me was 'gunfight, explore, gunfight, explore'. Repetitive.

The gunfights are so much fun though especially on higher difficulties. Did you play Gears? You'd probably like Uncharted 2 a lot more than the first since it's not as repetitive, its easier, and improved in every way imaginable.

Went into a store today and there are a lot of great games just waiting for a B1G1. Mario Super Sluggers, and Transormers: ROTF for Wii were both 9.99, and Mario Galaxy was 14.99. The selection of PS3 and 360 games were lacking, but those are great prices on those Wii games, especially with a B1G1.

I only have a PS3 at the moment, but I might buy a 360 when all SKU's are $200 for one with a decent sized HDD. I know, I know, it's never going to happen, just like the $299 PS3 was never going to happen.

About the only fun I had during the firefights was trying to pop every guy I took on with a headshot. Thanks to trying to be AR like that, I got most if not all of the headshot trophies.:D Not that I give a shit about them, but ahhhh hell who am I kidding....I enjoyed getting the headshot and kill trophies since it proved I can actually shoot and not just spray like I do in GTA IV on an almost nightly basis.

If you were able to get headshot easily you should be able to handle the higher difficulties. They totally change the game and make it a lot better. You should give it a try. If you didn't like it I wouldn't touch Gears, which was quite inferior.

like i told u before, even crushing difficulty was more like hard...what do u want the enemies to run up to you and give you a kiss? LOL
like i told u before, even crushing difficulty was more like hard...what do u want the enemies to run up to you and give you a kiss? LOL
Actually, I wanted them to give me a reacharound:D, but I don't think it would've remained a T rated game if they did that. Plus, I don't think I would've wanted one from one of those ghouls. Now Elena maybe.....but that's a whole other story.

As for me I beat the game, I got some of the silly trophies, I'm done with it so that's that for me.

The GTA games and GTA clones(but not all of them) and the God of War series, though I think the first one was a bit further back than 5 years, right?

The last game like Uncharted I touched was one of the Tomb Raiders for PS2. Although, I also enjoyed Red Dead Revolver and Gun immensely.

why are the last few posts just a discussion about favorite games and how uncharted is tough? way to go way off topic...

i was hoping to find a list of stores or a more complete list of drops but i guess will search for transformers or wolverine on my own.

Like there's really that much on topic to talk about other than the impending demise of Blockbuster and the death that already occured to their trade-in values.

It's not like it's gone on for pages and pages. Besides which, if there were more info there would be posts containing said info. Since you don't see any such posts, then that means you may have to go find your own deals and do a little deal hunting for once.

Shocking, I know, but the fun part is the hunt for deals.
Like there's really that much on topic to talk about other than the impending demise of Blockbuster and the death that already occured to their trade-in values.

I'm glad I waited until I was able to get Wolverine for so cheap. I put about 7 hours into it, beat it, and that's earning over 700 achievement points along the way. Still an awesome game, despite being short. It's still going to get another play-through on hard, though.

:D

I have not personally seen a closing BBV in my area. But I've seen the headlines and the chatter. I guess my area doesn't have many other options and they still thrive, good enough.

Bah, I hit up two Blockbusters here in VA where I am for work this week. Neither had a trace of either of those games for any system. They did have lots of Animal Crossing and Wii Music. I also saw Mario Super Sluggers but they had them tagged $19.99 - had no idea that was down to $14.99 (as someone just posted) now. B1G1 can't come soon enough.

I was surprised, though, by two things. First of all, these two stores are a mere 2 miles or so apart and neither appears to be closing which was a shock to me as back home they closed any that were within 5-10 miles of each other. But also, one of the stores actually had a nice little playable demo setup for Beatles Rock Band (drums and all). I thought they took most of that stuff out. They had preorder info up for DJ hero, Lego Rock Band, and even had one of the Call of Duty countdown clocks that I've only seen at Gamecrazy before.

I know that Gamecrazy is pulling out completely from northern VA, so maybe BBV will do better there as a game outlet, who knows.

As for Uncharted 2, I haven't played it yet because I've been engrossed in Demon's Souls (plus I'm 2500 miles from my PS3 this week ;)) but my son started playing and gave up right near the beginning because there was some dumbass stealth part that he couldn't complete. I tried it for 5 minutes (had never played either Uncharted before that) and got a few guys taken care of then they saw me for no apparent reason and the level reset. I think any dev that puts stealth missions in their games should be strung up, drawn and quartered, and shot (in no particular order). Now I'm not sure I'll ever want to play the game myself.

I never felt like I failed that stealth part for no reason; I was "caught" once or twice, but it was for good reason. Uncharted 2 is the best game I've played this year (maybe in the past few years), in my opinion. I implore you to check it out.

I'm sad cause the store with my favorite manager is closing but I figured that was going to happen since they did brisk business plus its in a bad area. I might pick up some DVDs from there this weekend. They already had closed another smaller store I would go to but that one was about 5 miles away from a Gamerush location.
Went to a closing store by me and snagged Folklore & Transformers ROTFLMAO for $8.99 each after their "clearance" discount.
That title just begs for those additional letters, doesn't it?

Well, that was a bit of hyperbole on my part - they did see me so I know what happened. What I couldn't figure out was a way to get to them without being seen (there were like 3 of them moving all over). Basically, what I'm trying to say is I intensely dislike that kind of gameplay, whether it is "fair" or not and want nothing whatsoever to do with it. Why would I want to play something that is tedious and painful (IMO)? Anyway, like I said I only tried it for 5 minutes and this was after my son threw the controller at me to try it after he got frustrated and it was my first and only experience with the game. I almost surely will try it again, on my own, from the beginning. I also have the first game that I got with my Uncharted bundle a year ago. I haven't even opened that yet so I really should get to these some time!

Anyway, enough off topicness - damn you IATCG!

Just FYI, that 'you fail if you're caught' stealth section is the only one in the game and its pretty brief. There are a couple sections later where you can be a little stealthy, but its just 'pick off a few guys with stealth until they see you, then open fire freely'.

Just FYI. Looks like some of the price drops were accidental and are now back up. Went to pick up Wolverine and it's now back up to $39.99. Transformers ROTF was back to $29.99 I believe.

My BB is pretty sharp, unfortunately, and had thought these were mistakes as $10 for Transformers was below the buyback price of $15 so they never even bothered to re-tag. Manager said even Protoype was down to $20 but was back up to $40 today. Damn. Should have gone yesterday.

Did you try them at the register or were they labeled with those prices? I only had about 50% of them labeled correctly and they were shocked when they saw the actual price.

I wondered if their TIV was better for those games than the sale price, I had considered flipping a few back to BBV to save on out-of-pocket expense. The profit to other locations was too good to pass up instead.

Mario Super Sluggers isn't 14.99, I just picked it up for 9.99. Decided I couldn't pass it up at that price, especially since it is complete and the disc is in nice shape. Also saw Donkey Kong Barrel Blast for 14.99. I can wait for the B1G1 for that though.

My BBV is in the middle of two others about 10-15 minutes driving north and south, still apparently none of us are closing.

We also have way too many pre-order game inserts for crap that I don't want to push let alone see someone buy, of course with MW2 being the big one. I literally cringe when someone asks and I say "Yeah you get back a 5$ gift card when you buy it", lol at walmart and amazon. We have one of those clocks too, it was set in central time though so it's an hour off, oh well =)

Yes, these were scanned at the register. The CSR, who is usually very cool to me in terms of letting me in on the deals, was surprised that they fixed it as quickly as they did. He wouldn't have stopped me from getting in on the deal. So I was out of luck.

Yeah, I can confirm...I had a Transformers scanned today, and it came up $29.99; looks like I was a day late to the party. I did manage to pick up Wolverine PS3 yesterday for $9.99, and the 360 version for $14.99. Also grabbed Dead Rising Wii for $14.99.

$9.99!!! Maybe this is one they haven't caught yet. Stopping by BB on the way home. As mentioned before, it appeared that some of the drops were put back and may have been accidental.

I might be interested in the PS3 version if you don't want it.

Thanks for the heads up on the stealth part, IO. I admit that I'm a 'run n gunner' sometimes, but in the original Uncharted I found myself trying to pick off enemies from a distance with headshots. One thing that irked me about the original was how the sniper rifle seemed to make so much noise.

You would think a sniper rifle is for discreetly taking out guys from a distance, so you don't alert the rest of them, but after taking down one guy I'd have the rest of them on my ass soon after.

Now that I know about that stealth part in Uncharted 2, it's dropped from a 'wanna get it sooner than it drops to $30 new' to a 'meh I'll get it when I get it' game.

Of course, I'm gonna read up on it a bit more and see if someone posted some YouTube videos of it, so I can see how long of a sequence it is.

Oh and BTW, for anyone looking for a possible flip to TRU for their trade-in program, that Onechanbara game for the 360 gets $12.50 there right now.

Well then that's not too bad, but I've been looking for an even trade on the PS3 game trade thread, but so far no bites. After how repetitive I thought the first game was, I doubt I want to actually PAY for the second one.
Lol the stealth part is like 5 minutes long.
IATCG...I know your the cheapest gamer, but the stealth mission is indeed maybe 5 minutes. You might die once or twice, but dont let that make you think it ruins one of the best video game experiences of all time. I rarely buy games but the guys at NG really know how to make a great game.
