Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Okay everybody, I've got some very exciting news; but I'm just not sure what to make of it.... Went over to Gamestop today to trade some stuff in towards Resident Evil 5. This is what I brought (all 360 games):

Kung-Fu Panda (from the bundle) in a clear case with manual, front of manual visible
FEAR 2 - all original packaging
Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth II (from BBV $9.99 sale) in a clear green 360 case, no manual

Took out the games to trade, mentioned the RE 5 extra 20% deal while I was putting the games on the counter. Watched as he opened each case and checked each disk for scratches. OK, now here's the thing: Got the expected base of of $4 and $25 for Panda and FEAR 2 respectively, but... (and I noticed it on the tiny screen while he was doing the transaction) I got $22 base for LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth II!!! I can't really confirm (even though this is really the only explanation) whether he mistakenly entered it into the system as LOTR: Conquest because all it says on the receipt is "Lord of the Rings"... that's it. As I said, he checked each game for scratches, so I can't imagine how he didn't notice it was BFM2 and not Conquest... anyway, got 28.60 for it total. Whether anyone else would get that much for it is open to conjecture until someone finds a way to verify BFM2s actual trade value or knows how Conquest appears on the receipt. Or you may just get lucky like I did trading it under the same conditions. All I know is I went in expecting to pay around 20ish out of pocket, but ended up with about an extra $6 in credit!!!

Very exciting indeed...however, not sure how this relates to Blockbuster. I thought you were going to spew some inside info about some upcoming B1G1 sale.

Well, they sell it for $19.99 used on the website, and LotR: Conquest is showing up at $22 TIV on the site. I would say we have a case of employee incompetence in your favor here.

Stopped in BB and saw Mercenaries 2 for 15 on Ps3 and 20 on 360 used. I think they just haven't updated the 360 price. Nothing too noteworthy other than that.

Just because he bought the game from BBV. But if you're going to get $22 base, you could make a profit no matter where you bought it.

But I'm just assuming it was Conquest, too. I think you got very lucky. Probably won't happen again, but gg for you.

I just had to pay my own money at Gamestop for games. My own actual freakin money! That was painful! Oh why oh why did you have to drop your trade in values, Blockbuster. I think I may go rock in a corner for a while.

My buying habits have gone from buying new releases to waiting a few months after release to buy off amazon at reduced price. This blows.

I've been dreading this day, too. I picked up 9 games during this B2G1 and still have enough for GTA: CW, Valkyrie Profile: CotP, Suikoden Tierkreis and FFCC: Echoes of Time. After that, it's back to using cash only unless HWV decides to do another $3.99 sale to clear out their last-gen stock.

It's not so bad though, I guess we can all work on our backlogs and just cut back on our game collecting. This thread is so depressing now.

Popped my head in a gamerush today. No more clearance sale setup.... Saw Army of 2 (360) used for $15. Anyone happen to know what they give for Operation: Darkness? It's $18 used at Gamestop, and it looks like one of those games that BB\GR would take their time with in dropping the used price; so I'm thinking there might be a small chance for an even credit transfer. (Since it had a $25 TIV less than two months ago, an estimated drop of only $9 or less might not be too far-fetched; but then again...)

What!?!? I just bought that game for 25 used a few weeks back =/ Its a good game, but each mission consumes so much time that I can only pick it up when I have a few hours to spare -_-
I need to find something to spend my credit on, i am down to $30 and just want to be done with it..
That's easy, just by the gift cards if you're really done. I'll probably cash out that way. Have about $100 or so.

not that it matters much anymore but starting next week bbv is putting a block in place so you cannot use credit to buy giftcards. so this could mean that the vanilla visa might be coming back since that was how most of the vanilla visa cards were bought. like i said it doesnt really matter since nobody trades to bbv anymore but just wanted to give the few people who still visit this thread a heads up. no b1g1 in sight.

Yoinked two copies of GTA4 from a local Blockbuster for 14.99 each...Turns out that the second is in horrible shape...I'll be returning it promptly tomorrow, I want my money back.

I'm holding on to about $52 in credit. There are a couple of Wii games that I'd like to get, but I was hoping to flip some of that credit to Gamestop. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait it out...

:hot::cry:

It's a tough go most of the time now. There were several 1.5+ flips to BBV with last weekend's B2G1 sale at Gamestop though. And 1.5 flips going the other way are pretty easy, with some 2.0+ popping up now and then. Just need people to keep reporting Trade Values, and someone to keep updating the list. I think we're down but not out here.

Will this block also apply to game system point cards (Microsoft Live points, etc.)?

If what he reports is true, then yes. The game cards come up in the system just like the gift cards from other stores, so there's no way for the system to discriminate between them.

I had no ide I could still buy gift cards. I will most likely do that then.

I wonder what GTA IV gets at Gamestop. I will have to check. That may be a route I can take to get it back over to GS with the 50% promo on trade 6 + edge.

Check that GS thread for TIVs. I turned in the PS3 version over the weekend for $11.25 prebonus.
What games that still yield 1.5 - 2?
If what he reports is true, then yes. The game cards come up in the system just like the gift cards from other stores, so there's no way for the system to discriminate between them.
Congratulations BBV on making yourself even more useless. Can't wait till you close down!
What games that still yield 1.5 - 2?
Now, don't go buying these without confirming the numbers work for you, but:
Wii Geometry Wars
Wii Super Mario Galaxy
Wii Rockstar Table Tennis
Wii Tiger Woods 07
360 Beautiful Katamari
360 Grand Theft Auto IV
PS3 Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

And, a bunch of last-gen Gamecube stuff and some PS2 stuff. Plus stuff from the President's day sale, if you can still find it.

I was on vacation last week, and the first BBV I visited had gotten a ton of the really good no-art games, and had promptly converted them to normal inventory with normal prices. This store also had two copies of Dead or Alive ultimate, in the clear coverless cases, but with regular inventory barcodes on them, no price tags. So I had them price-checked, they ring up at $49.99 each. But I know one of my local stores had the discs packaged individually with each having it's own barcode, and they were $6.99 last summer, so I dunno what's up with that. :???:

But then I happened across a couple of franchise stores where all Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 games were $4.99, no matter what. That brightened things up a bit.

Thanks, maybe I should buy a couple of points cards before the end of the week. I have around $70 left in BBV credit, and I don't know if I want to hold on to it based on the hope that I'll find games that I want at the next B1G1, whenever it finally happens.

Gamestop just raised their TIV for Super Smash Brothers Brawl to $25. After 40% and Edge it comes to 37.50. Its $30 used at BB so anyone wanting to transfer credit could use SSBB.
DAMNIT io! Why have you abandoned this thread???;)
What? There's a Blockbuster thread? Who knew? ;)

Actually, I've been out of town the last week. Now, in the past, that would have meant new Blockbusters to run around to and buy/trade at. But I didn't even bother to go into one where I was. I drove past several and just couldn't even get myself to slow down and gaze at them. Meh... Now I'm kind of getting hammered by work, so I keep an eye on this thread but aren't doing much more at BBV these days.
not that it matters much anymore but starting next week bbv is putting a block in place so you cannot use credit to buy giftcards. so this could mean that the vanilla visa might be coming back since that was how most of the vanilla visa cards were bought. like i said it doesnt really matter since nobody trades to bbv anymore but just wanted to give the few people who still visit this thread a heads up. no b1g1 in sight.
Now, this bothers me... I do still have $175 or so and was thinking that was low and I needed more for any future B1G1 sales. But now, with this development, I'm not too sure. Not being able to buy game cards sort of takes away my very last "out" with my credit. It is pretty useless without that option. Hmmm...

What about reloading a Value card with credit on the store account? I still have some sitting at my local store. They won't block that, will they? I wouldn't think so as Value Card credit is essentially the same as store credit and thus should be transferrable. Just in case, though, maybe I ought to empty it out there soon. Or just buy a PSN card with it or something. Now that GS has them, though, it is probably better to wait for a B1G1 and transfer the credit to GS at a profit and then buy a PSN card.

So, yeah, I guess I shouldn't panic and just sit on my $175 for now - I'm sure there will be an opportunity to spend it fairly soon. But I'm glad I didn't go through the trouble of converting more from GS to BBV with the GS B2G1 sale. Though if I had known there was anything close to 1.5x I probably would have done so (if I wasn't out of town then).

dys006 - What you listed there are the BBV -> GS flips. We know about those (for the most part). What is it you got 1.5x for going from GS -> BBV though? I'd still be interested in that if it was an easy enough thing to do and I was headed to GS anyway (which I almost surely will be soon).

Maybe I exaggerated to make my point that I want people to keep reporting information. AitD: INFERNO, Zoids Assault were 1.4s last weekend, AitD (360) was passable to match with Cranium then too. Lego Indy and Kung Fu Panda was a 1.5 the week before. (assuming you have easygoing BBV or affordable color printing, I did three of them)

I guess there's not very much anymore. Hopefully we'll all keep an eye out, and things will come along. In the new BBV values system, Every item I've seen trades in for 40% of it's sale price. So that's a good rule of thumb to figure them out without always having to ask. Cranium excepted of course.

Oh man. I went on vacation at work and decided to do the same from CAG-- I suffered greatly at the Target clearance thread. I had about 50 pages to go through (still working on that) But, since March 4th, there has only been seven pages made here. Blockbuster sucks. I'm glad I don't have a whole lot of credit tied up with them (but then again, maybe I want some credit, for a future B1G1 sale if they still manage to exist by that time)

What's even worse is that I recently moved, and went back to my local Blockbuster to cash out with Blockbuster gift cards... and they said the manager told them that you can't cash out credit that way. And this was last week! They basically told me I could only get a gift card when I trade in new games, the existing credit had to be spent at that store.

I'm hoping they were mistaken and that they meant this other new policy.

Yeah but you need a whopping 5 more games to get the extra 40%.

did you price check that SSBB? At mine, the price showed $29.99, but rang up at $19.99. So I bought 2. Also got the last 2 GTA IV @ 14.99.

Anyone know if BB is going to get the DSi? I've called 3 stores and the employees all said " what is it again?" I need to finish off my $150.00 credit once and for all. Their stores are SO dead.

I don't understand why some of you want Blockbuster to go out of business? Even if you don't dhop there, at least its another option when it comes to buying games. Less compition is not a good thing. I work there once a week just to get the free movies, and them closing does not help anybody.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use a Blockbuster Gift Card online? I'm trying to buy MLB 09, but all my local BB's are out of stock. So I'm hoping I can put the credit that I have on my card onto the website, and then order the game like that.

Any help would be appreciated.

I totally agree here. Also, it's just another depressing reminder of the current state of our economy.

Okay, I found the page where you can upload a gift card into an online order, but every time I check balance it says "Please Enter Valid Gift Card" and shows I have a 0 dollar balance, even though I just got it reloaded yesterday and I know for a fact, based off the receipt, there's money on it.

Anyone got any help for me?

I like BBV, the one I go to is awesome, people are really cool. I'd hate for it to go out of business.

Blockbuster got an time extension on its line of credit until September 2010. This basically means that they wont be bankrupt until then.

I personally would not like to see them go because I've never been in a well run HWV/GameCrazy. I'm a frequent RedBox renter (yay for free codes) but the other day when I went to return my movies, I was informed that the machine was full. Well that's f'ing great, now I have to rent 2 more movies to turn these two in. Additionally, RedBox doesn't get all the new releases and I've still gone to Blockbuster to find these.

I think they are trying to turn things around. We'll see if they can do it before their creditors come a calling.

You're talking to ones who drove them out of business....

are you using a value card or gift card? Value cards won't work online (can't even check balance). Gift cards you can, but only the ones that start with certain numbers. On the page that you're accessing (I'm too lazy to look it up) it states that you must have a gift card that starts (or ends) with a certain 4 digit combination or higher. I'm guessing you either have a vlue card or your gift card number is too low.
