Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I traded in 4 copies of each game today, at only 2 BBV. Each store took 2 of the same.

It was funny, because one of the racepros I had was the Gamestop edition, and I guess the UPC's are different, so the computer at blockbuster wouldnt take it. I than told the cashier I will be right back, went .02 miles to gamestop, exchanged my copy of racepro for a different (non GS edition) and went back to BBV.

Also...alot of these games on the first post are showing up over 14.99 at my stores, do you think it is because they have not updated the prices?

Now I have a little bit over 100 store credit at BBV, hopefully I can find some games.

and also, the 3.99 movies at my stores were TRASH. You are better off going for the 4 for 20 dvds, much better selection and each dvd is only 1 dollar more.

my goal is to make 50 in amazon money, thus getting batman CE for free pretty much. Than just giving the rest to Gamestop with the +50%, and picking up blazblue, than leaving me with some money on credit. Unless I want to get really daring and set up another amazon account for my friend and order a g25 wheel, just to have it, hah.

Well, I am having 4 games held for tomorrow at my local store. They don't really have too much else that I'm interested in or could be used for the GS or Amazon promos though I am determined to find something for the Amazon one in any case.

au7oma7ic - if this isn't a franchise store then the prices should be good. Chances are if you got the expected trade-in values for those games then it is a corporate store. Consider yourself lucky if you have a store that doesn't update the tags - you'll be the only one buying anything there ;).

I have a question--I checked the find a gamerush link, but it comes up as a 404 error.

I'm in Temecula, CA (So.Cal) and am wondering what the closest, if any, to me might be. ANy input?

will they be getting any new used game shipments at the stores running the b1g1 promo? or is it just going to be likely whatever the store already has in stock right now? wondering if anyone knows...

No new shipments - it is what they have now. Keep in mind the used stock at most stores comes almost entirely from converted rentals so they all tend to have similar selections (as they all tend to convert the same games at the same time). Maybe Gamerush stores have more varied selections but I don't live within 600 miles of one... (though it turns out I might be travelling somewhere with a bunch of them next week).

Oh yeah, just as an indication that the list in the OP (despite hawaiiboy's massive update) is not complete I saw Monster Madness Grave Danger for the PS3 for $9.99 at my local store. I'm considering snagging that for myself.

Where will you be travelling...and will you be picking up stuff for fellow CAGs that make arrangements with you? 0=)
So...blockbusters in southern Minnesota are owned by some dumb franchiser who isn't participating in the B1G1 deal...WTF???
Well, they set their own prices so you may be able to find some good deals. I still remember some guy picking up Fallout 3 at 14.99 a month after it came out or something.

Atlanta, but it's not set yet. Either that or DC (where there are no GR stores). Or maybe nowhere ;). Pickup of anything is unlikely as I'd be pretty busy there with only an hour or two to go CAGing. Plus it will be the week after the sale starts and I'd assume anything good would be snapped up before then anyway. Not that I wouldn't look and if stuff seems to be plentiful I wouldn't mind grabbing whatever.

Forgive me, I've searched the last 10 pages and still can't find this. I've given up so I'm just asking: Both the 360 and PS3 versions of Mirror's edge are 14.99? My BBV does not believe in updating the price stickers. Thanks.

No, just PS3. The OP is up to date with all of the pricing info posted thus far.

Did a quick $59 credit transfer from Gamestop to Blockbuster with Wheelman, Tenchu, and Racepro.
Scouted the used table that has all thier used games. Only had 4 games worth getting to keep/flip. Will have to hit the dreaded Jr Detective store at opening since they had a better selection(Fire Emblem DS, Bioshock, etc.)
Thanks for all the work fellow CAGS.

Thanks io, I'm an idiot. I just figured that with all the info coming in so rapidly, the op hadn't been fully updated yet so I was searching the thread post by post instead.

So I'm guessing Tenchu Shadow Assassin is still at $15? Last real quote was from a month ago.

I thought the deal started today, so I went into my local BB (happens to be a gamerush). I found 2 games I wanted to use for the FNR3 deal and took them up. Mentioned the B1G1 and the clerk said he didn't think it started yet. He scanned the games and the totaled transaction indicated (correctly) that the games were full price. Without my prompting him, he took the 50% off, saying he knew about the sale but didn't know the start date. Super cool of him. I completely spaced the date. On a side/sad note that store is usually stocked with stuff for these type of events. Today it was almost bare. I figured it would be not problem to grab a couple from the Fight Night list, but had to mix and match systems. I grabbed QoS 360 and Bioshock PS3. Took them across the street with a copy of Ace Combat from my collection and grabbed a copy of Fight Night.

^Yeah, it's definitely worth a try if you're near a BBV. I got the 2 games I was wanting just a couple hours ago (Mirror's Edge & Folklore). The computer doesn't recognize the sale yet, it just depends on the cashier.

Definetly cool of the employee. Sometimes you have to fight the employee just to accept that a sale is going on even though there's a sign 20 ft behind me. The fact that he knew of the sale impresses me even more.

My local BBV had slim pickings for used games. I did however snag a Quantum of Solace for the 360 for $9.99. It ranged up as $14.99 but the cashier deducted the $5 from it to match the price sticker. I did see a box behind the counter that looked like it had a lot of xbox 360/Wii game cases in it. I am hoping it is some stock for this sale tomorrow - gonna go back tommorrow morning and see if it is on and if they added any new stock.

as with all B1G1's some full price paying idiot hit my local store over the weekend and grabbed about 5 of the games I wanted, I managed to find about 8 games I was interested in and the manager is holding them behind the counter for me.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya that that is not some employees stash for tomorrow, I know a B1G1 or two ago employees were getting a even bigger discount on top of the B1G1...thankfully that started about a week into the B1G1 so i still managed to get some good stuff.
What time dose Blockbuster Open ?
Try using the store locator on their website, the 3 closest stores to me open at 10, 11, and 12 o_O

Duh move on my part, should have stated that it was indeed $15 still.

I hit up a couple of BBV’s today only to find some cobwebs and tumble weeds. Its like someone robbed all the used games. On top of it every store rearranged their sections into a very counter intuitive set up . What gives Blockbuster ?

Went to 3 BBVs today and saw 1 used copy of Worms: A Space Oddity at each of them for $14.99. I think it's another one of those games that most stores have 1 converted rental of. Might be a good one to add to the OP. I also saw Samba De Amigo for the Wii for 6.99. Also saw monster madness for the ps3 for 9.99.

All the rest of the 360, Ps3, and Wii games I saw are in the OP.

Hmm.. I had my eye on that Worms game for a long time while it was $29.99 and then $19.99. But now that you mention it, I didn't see it at all when I was in there. I guess one of those "full price paying idiots" bought it at $19.99 a few weeks ago or something. Bah...

As for Samba De Amigo, well, then, if that's the case (and not a mistag) then it has dropped in price quite a bit unlike most of the rest of these games tha haven't changed in 6+ months. I remember that was one of the titles that dropped to $14.99 near the end of the last B1G1 sale and I happily snapped it up then. Have yet to play it of course ;).

Anyways, I hit up a GS tonight and picked up Race Pro and surprise, surprise, a Cranium Kabooki - which I almost never see at GS. They actually had 2 Race Pros and I was going to buy both but then I remembered someone said something about a GS-exclusive version with a different UPC. Sure enough, one was different so I put that one back and just got the regular cover. Everyone needs to remember that - 90% of BBV clerks won't think to look up the real game if you bring in the GS version.

With those and a few copies of Wheelman I think I can generate all the credit I need for this sale.

^ IO I can confirm Samba De Amigo is 6.99 saw it at both stores I stopped in today, as well as Nights Wii being 6.99. Pretty good combo for 7 bucks total :)

I couldn't think of anything to pair up samba de amigo with for 6.99, but I noticed on the GS thread that someone traded in Guitar Hero Aerosmith Wii for $4 on 6/26/09. So I'll probably pair that with samba and flip it at GS with the tiered promo.

I need to renew my EDGE card. Should I wait until July 1st to renew it? If I renew it tomorrow (June 30th), I'll basically lose a month, right?

Sale starting tomorrow means someone is really generous for you to do it today. Even if I knew about it(which I do from cag ONLY, still have not seen ANYTHING regarding it instore, weird) I still wouldn't because that's a massive credit, but I might be nice enough to hold it for you if that's the case =).

Today we got a handful of used games in. I don't know if this was a regular store to store transfer or something a bit more widespread(I'm central florida, east coast). ps3 gta iv, dark sector, cod 4, x360 bully, a handful of wii games I forget. A few decent titles and most were under the desired price. Again, no clue if many stores got some new stock in.

My instructions when this popped up last were "I can't take it" and that's from my store manager. If I can't scan the barcode and bring up a listing in the computer, I'm told not to accept a trade, regardless of what it is. So YMMV.

Right, but the spirit of that rule is to disallow people to bring in random-assed weird things and expect credit. If it is a legitimate version of a game that BBV otherwise takes (that just happens to be a special edition or with a little extra something like the GS version of Race Pro) then it really shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, that's why I avoided buying the GS version as I knew it would be a hassle.

Out of the dozens of BBVs I've traded at, there are two specific employees at two different stores that will manually look of the TIV for me when theres a weird barcode (or no barcode). Thats like two employees out of eighty.

Right, makes sense, but I'm not the one laying down the law at my store. And for that matter, I try to make managers take trades anyway. Less worry on me if something is scratched enough to look ok but not play well. I always play the dumb card "oh you mean I can take trades? ok next time".

Took my son down to Blockbuster. Had him walk up to the female manager and asked if she could hold his game for him until tomorrow because he "forgot his allowance at home."

She put a note on it and told him to pick another game out that was the same price or less and he could get that free. He acted surprised and grabbed the other game he wanted and gave it to her.

Going to pick up Sonic and Mario / De Blob (Wii) tomorrow. Don't have to worry about someone grabbing the last two copies.

io, I noticed in the OP it says, Lego Star Wars (OT or TCS?). I bought the OT for 360 two summers ago during a B1G1 for half off $9.99. It might be $6.99 now, but I know 100% for sure it's not over $9.99. Hope this helps.
You just made my Tuesday a little easier (hopefully). :) Wheelman is 29.99 used at GS as of a couple of nights ago.
wheelman is $14.99 at my Target. It's priced $29.99 but it scanned at $14.99

i now wished I had scoured the BBV and had cashiers hold games for me. At first I was into it for the hunt, but the hunt wont exist if everyone else is getting games held for them.
On the original post, click the hide/unhide button towards the top and it shows the games and the prices.
thanks! is there a limit when you buying game?

I'll probably drop by late in the evening to check out my local BBV. Honestly, the last time I was at BBV was nearly 2 months ago, and they were pretty dry then, I really doubt they'll restock that much

So this is prolly a dumb question, but are BBV used game prices universal (at least among the franchised stores)? Or is it totally YMMV? I hit three BBVs today and saw wildly varying prices on used games, even between copies of the same title at the same store!

They should be universal among NON-franchised stores. However, if you saw different price stickers, they might not have updated those, but it should still ring up correctly
Is there anyway to tell online which stores are franchised and which aren't?
I dont know about online since there arent any around me, but there have been posts where it will say franchise on the reciept. You could also try calling

forgive me if this had been asked, for those who are trying to use this deal towards the amazon trade ins, would amazon take trade in without the game manual ? or a not original case, missing cover arts?

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value

You need everything if you are going to trade to amazon.

I got capped at 2 of the same title (same platform), 20 games total, per day, last time there was a B2G1. YMMV.
