Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Speaking of good TIVs, I forgot to post this a week or so ago I traded in PS3 Singstar Bundle for $36! I had found it at a backwater Sears while visiting back home.
Confirmed Rock Revolution :ps3: for 19 via phone call. Also, looks like Cranium is still fetching 16. It looks like an old fashion flipping party now!
I will grab my one and flip in into two cheap games I want to gamerscore boost in and one to flip to EB to round out my percentage of games.

I will be doing this while holding back the tears that this might not happen ever again
Maybe I'll go all out if I can find some. It's not like BB is making a big comeback.
Yeah thats true as well.... Hm I guess it matters on what I find.

Just a heads up in case anyone is interested, yesterday I saw a copy of DMC4 for the PS3 for $14.99, not sure if it was new or if it was used though because it was not the typical used price sticker and was not hand written.

New
iconps3.gif
Lego Indiana Jones for $19.99.

($6 cost for me: $5 for Rock Revolution at Target, then $19.00 trade in at BBV, plus the extra 99 cents. Thanks saticoy.)

I was actually a little scared that the report of $19 for RR was an April Fools joke, lol. But sure enough, you guys came through.

And of course now that GS's TIV for GTA IV is up to $14 (meaning $21 after bonus), my local BBV doesn't have any more copies. Oh well, I'll hit up a couple of BBV stores tomorrow, as I need an extra game or 2 for the 40% boost at GS.

Wow, and of course I've been out of town and my Target is probably wiped clean by now :bomb:.

Did anyone confirm the 360 price yet? I do have a few of those. If not, I'll call later - still trying to put things back in order after my trip...

I hit 3 Targets, and only 1 had a copy of Rock Revolution and it was on clearance for $9.98. So call before you go, since there don't seem to be many copies out there (at least in my area).

Also, you might want to get everything on a value card, even if you just plan on spending the credit right away. I brought RR and a 1600 MS points card up to the register at the same time and he just entered it as store credit since I was using it towards the pts. card. The system wouldn't let him use store credit to pay for the points card, but a value card worked (this took them 5 minutes to figure out). The store manager was there and she said you can only pay for such cards with credit cards or cash, but apparently a value card will work too. But this is apparently a recent change.

Confirmed the 360 RR today, 19$ as well, and to think i had mine sitting on Goozex for the last two weeks :(

This was my first trade to BBV since the trade values dropped. Good timing too as I need more credit at GC to buy my DSi's (For those of you new to the thread, I can only trade at 1 BBV, due to Vanilla Visa abuse, so I use GameCrazy's pricematching policy to increase my profit)

Awsome, thanks for the confirmation. I think I have 2 360 versions. I was going to keep one to try out but who am I kidding, I barely play Rock Band and Guitar Hero any more so I'm never getting to this one. Also thanks for reminding me of the GC price match. I haven't done that in ages. My only trade this year at BBV was one stray Cranium I found a couple months ago. So I'll take one RR to my local BBV and get a price quote (then trade it) and take the other to GC on my way to Target to look for PS3 copies. It should all work out nicely and will be a little nostalgic - haven't done a trade-in flip trip in quite a while :lol:.

Though I'm starting to think any additional credit at BBV (beyond the $150 or so I've been sitting on for a while) is a total waste - really hope they come through with a B1G1 sale at some point.

I hear you, io. Although, I'm actually not looking forward to the sale right now, lol. When I traded in RR today and put it on my value card, I was shocked to hear my updated balance of $70+. So I spent about half of that on a couple games to keep (Kameo ($6.99) & UT3) and a couple to trade in to GS (Beautiful Katamari is 10>10.50). If I buy GTA tomorrow like I'm planning, I'll be down to about $10 in BBV credit.

But on the other hand, RR is only $16.99 used at GS. So $13.60 after coupon would still work to move credit back from GS to BBV.

Are you sure it's only a week ago? The last time I check (couple months ago?), they don't take the bundle anymore.

Kind of sad that I've been out of it for so long that I didn't even consider a GS to BBV flip for this game.

If you can find the PS3 version, it's $14.99, so with Edge/Coupon it's a 12 -> 19 flip. A little over 1.5:1, but pretty good if you could find something like GTAIV if they have a B1G1 soon.

Edit: As I'm a huge nerd, did the math to figure out the ratios here.

360 version with Edge and 10% coupon: 13.6 -> 19 (1.4:1)
" " 20% coupon: 11.9 -> 19 (1.6:1)
PS3 version with Edge and 10% coupon: 12 -> 19 (1.58:1)
" " 20% coupon: 10.5 -> 19 (1.81:1)
B2G1 w/ 3 360 RR's: 30.9 -> 57 (1.84:1)
B2G1 w/ 3 PS3 RR's: 27 -> 57 (2.18:1)

That last one (PS3 in B2G1) almost gave me goosebumps, as it's better than most decent ratios were at BBV "back in the day." It's FF: RotSSurfer, but it'll do. Here's hoping for a PS3/360 coupon, or better yet, an upcoming B2G1.

Yeah, the GS->BBV angle didn't occur to me either.

Anyway, confirmed the $19 TIV for the 360 version. Man, I've been sitting on those for 2 or 3 weeks! Who knew?

I also got my trade-in quote to try the PM at Gamecrazy though I'm not sure they will go for that one as they probably sell it for $19.99 new.

I also confirmed Lego Indy is $19.99 new for both 360 and Wii. Folklore was marked $19.99 used (I know this came up the other day). One thing I will definitely snag if there's a B1G1 is Tomb Raider Anniversary for 360 which is now $14.99. They had a decent amount of $14.99 and under stuff, though much of it was from before, like Bioshock. It looks like they converted more rental copies of various things (also saw an Okami which I know wasn't there a few weeks ago).
Are you sure it's only a week ago? When I first asked a few days before the guy made it sound like they only took the bundle. Have an extra Singstar Rocks bundle. Wonder what the TIV is on that. . .

Maybe there are some more target clearance -> BBV that we can take advantage of here? Any good guesses as to what sort of game could have slipped past them?
Maybe there are some more target clearance -> BBV that we can take advantage of here? Any good guesses as to what sort of game could have slipped past them?
Who knows. It almost has to be a case like RR - where it had a rapid price drop from the original $59.99. But even then, it seemed BBV had been keeping on top of those (e.g., with Fracture which otherwise would have been a good candidate).

I found nothing at Target anyway - RR is still $9.98 and nothing has dropped in 3 weeks. I did trade in my 2 360 copies though - one to BBV as I said before and the other this evening to Gamecrazy. The guy did forget to add the 5% boost (which is company policy and is supposed to be on top of the PM) but I didn't push the matter. I was just glad a regular was working there and not one of the new guys who probably wouldn't even know what I was talking about.

Finally, I went to a BBV on Tuesday to pick up a MS point card. I hadn't been to a BBV since January. I had $8.39 left in credit, which was on a GC. The only employee in the store was the manager (just after noon). When I went to pay, he ran my GC without any problem but then I took out my 3 VV. They each had about $2.xx on them.

The 3 VV must have brought up a red flag because he told me that he doubted that they would go through since he had been having "problems" with the VV earlier. He ran them and they all went through. I ended up paying $5.11 for my 1600 points card.

Regarding RR PS3, those were long gone at $9.98 in my area. I'll keep an eye out just in case. Thanks for the heads up, saticoy.

So GS.com says that one of my local stores has both Bukakke & RR. I printed out the coupon & was getting ready go make a little flipping trip but then I (kind of) remembered something.

BBV only accepts trade-ins if the game has case & manual now, correct?

If the manager has read their communications updates from 2 weeks ago then yeah the game needs to be complete.

Wow, I have a 360 copy at home that I haven't played in a month, paid $5 for it at Target. I guess I know where that's going now. Have there been any notable used price drops at BBV lately, that could be candidates to flip back to GS? Otherwise, I guess I'll just be saving for an eventual B1G1... assuming those aren't gone for good, too.

Thanks DarkRider! I made sure to check and both games I was looking for did actually have manuals so I was fine.

And DJP, there are some decent things right now with GS's trade-in promo (that is going on thru Sun) but your best bet is still probably any leftover clear case $10 games. I saw a Wii Table Tennis today that I'll be going back for tomorrow. That's a $10>$13.50. I found a few 1:1s and that's mostly what I'm using. I remember seeing a copy of Quake Wars Enemy Territories today but can't recall if it was $10 or $15. It has a $10 base at GS so hopefully it was $10.

Gertle - funny, my store also still has a disc-only Table Tennis along with one other Wii pre-pack game. That $13.50 is after what deal now? I've lost track of the GS deals since I haven't traded there in a while. Is that the trade 6 get a 40% bonus one? If so, I'd need to scrounge up other stuff so it probably isn't worth it.

haha, stupid BBV. I traded my 2 360 RR's, and remembered I had made a preorder for Alien's Vs Monsters a while back as a favor to the CS guy. So I figured what the hell, I'll pick it up with the credit I just earned. And what a friggin surprise, they had no copies and were not getting any in, even though that game had been picked off of their own preorder list.

Honestly how can they survive, I heard netflix shipped there 2 Billionth dvd this week.

I just got back from de local GameRush, and it seems that de price for de Blob (Used) has dropped to $14.99.

Yeah, that's still the one going on. Wii Table Tennis has a TIV of $9 @ GS.

I'm going to check a couple more BBVs tomorrow because I really want a GTA IV to trade in. lol, I guess that DLC really did make it popular again. I am planning on holding onto like 5-6 games in hopes of a extra $10 for 3 deal at GS, but right now I'm planning on trading in 6 and getting back just a few bucks more than I paid (although it did add some to the gamerscore, lol) but GTA would be a nice little win.

Also, :( cuz the Eternal Sonata I saw a while back was gone.

OK, just got done transferring a good chunk of my remaining credit:

(BBV price - GS base -> after bonus)

Madden 08 (GC) - $6.99 - $8.50 -> $12.75
Mario Power Tennis (GC) 9.99 - 9.50 -> 14.25
Geometry Wars (Wii) 6.99 - 6.00 -> 9.00
GTA IV (360) - 14.99 - 14.00 -> 21.00
SSBB (Wii) - 29.99 - 25.00 -> 37.50

I moved $68.95 --> $94.50

For the 360: both Spider-man:Web of Shadows and 007:Quantum of Solace dropped to $25 USED, following Gamestop's whopping $18 price drop on these 2 to $26.99. So even if there was a coupon, you wouldn't make anything on a GS->BBV\GR transfer of these...

:lol: Clever...

I already owned GTA IV for PS3. But since I got the DLC for a good price, I strolled on by the busy Blockbuster in town. Surely enough they had a few copies of GTA4 360 for sale. The counter guy was cool, first I asked for a green case and the manual/map. He searched a few rentals for them, no dice. So he said gander the copies on the rental shelf for them. No problem! Nice to have a full copy for $15. Typically its a deal breaker for me not to have a complete game, but in this case I was about to make an exception.

I havn't been in the thread in a long time but I have a question. I have $17 in credit and I'm looking for some games to transfer over to GS for at least equal if not greater value. Any games that can be suggested?

Noted New PS3 (manager's special) Lego Batman $19.99 this eve.

Oh and yesterday I received the Wii won from last fall's promo, thanks to members here for the shipping info.
Mine was delayed due to a snowstorm last week.

One even transfer from GS back to BBV with this weeks Used Deal.
Spectrobes $3.99 (w/ EDGE) -> $4.50, assuming you can find complete copies.

So has anyone checked the trade in price of "In the Movies", BBV are notoriious for not staying on top of price drops, and the game can be had for 13$ if you trade the camera back to GS.

Traded in Rock Revolutiuons (1 Ps3, 1 xbox) at the Burke VA blockbuster today, no problems. She loaded it right on a blockbuster gift card, it being $39.xx. Not bad for $10 spent at Target. Anyway, can I buy gift cards for other places with the blockbuster gift card I have, or is that not allowed now (along with trying to buy them with credit)?

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with this credit. I already have 1 gta4 to trade in, only time to make 1 trip, and am betting we see another b1g1 around memorial day or maybe even after easter.

Is GTA IV still going for $14 TIV at GS? I just saw a preplayed for $10 at BBV. I also saw preplayed Okami for $14? Anyone know TIV on that?
Has anyone here pre-ordered the DSi from Blockbuster?
I called several BBv in my area(Sunnyvale, CA) and none of them has any in and also are not doing any pre-order.

Rock Revolution for both systems held at $19. I asked about You're in the Movies but there was no buyback price listed, most likely because it was only sold as a bundle with the camera.

Yes, Ninja, and PSN cards too. That is pretty much the last use for my credit there if they still allow purchases of them (we seem to have conflcting info on that).

Good to hear RR is holding at $19. Too bad they are still $10 at my Target!
