Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

A week into this and now we get to start bragging, I'll join in :D
Started with No blockbuster credit, a little at gamestop which was used to get the minor credit transfers. Went slow since I didn't want to invest too much cash. Still want a few cheap DS games for kids. We'll see what's left later.
To keep: Fight Night RD4, We Ski, Pinball
6 more games to trade, but waiting to see if there's anything left in the next couple days to add to it.($50)
$132 at Gamestop
$59.99 Gamestop once I return Fight Night.
$50 Amazon
$216 Fye
$20 Shoprite
$15 CVS
$10 NJ Lottery Scratch off

I live in south orange county (CA) and my local Blockbusters had jack squat. Practically nothing under 14.99 at the Lake forest BBV/GR, the Foothill Ranch had only PS2 shite, and my run to the Rancho Santa Margarita store ended with the revelation that store went belly up. Like no longer there. :( Fortunately, I have a buddy in San Marcos, and was making a trip to the Wild Animal Park yesterday. Escondido and San Marcos stores netted me QOS and Spider-Man WOS (360) and Bioshock and Kung fu Panda for PS3. Flipped everything but Kung fu Panda to GS for the Fight Night deal last night. Sweet deal!

Was able to get GTA4 for Xbox360 and another game for $13 (got an employee price b/c of 4th of July for some reason). Found out TIV for GTA4 is $14 at GS so I collected 5 other games and ended up getting $21 for GTA4( w/ 40% promo). $8 plus a free game, I definately am glad to have CAG. Are there better value flips in this deal that anyone has found?. The TIV for GTA4 ps3 is only $8 (before promos) at GS so Xbox360 is the one to flip. Thanks again CAG!

I've got about 53 games since this deal started some TIVs to Gamestop
Universe at War 360 4.50
Guitar Hero Aerosmith WII 3.50
Condemned 2 360 4.25

Bourne Conspiracy 360 7.25
Lego Indiana Jones Wii 5.50

Quantum of Salace 360 7.50
Fear Files 360 4.25
Think Fast Wii 5.00
MX vs ATV: Untamed Wii 6.00
Samba De Amigo Wii 3.25

keeping Condemned 2 Fear The Club De Blob and PS3 Bioshock. Also flipped a FNR4 Today. At one of the BBVs today the manager was like bet your gonna make a lot of money selling these online. Come in next week we should have more games for you.

Did any of you have problems today?

I went to a Blockbuster which I have bought this past week and went back for another two games but the computer was no longer taking the B1G1.

Because the manager said the sale was supposed to be going on, he said he'd honor it by removing $11 but then told his employees if anyone is going to do the B1G1, tell them that it's over.

I got Lego Batman (which was priced at $34.99) for $14.99 (360)
and got Tomb Raider Anniversary (360) for free (360, for $9.99)

And on top of the $11 off, it says "coupon" for $1.00 off. So, I only paid $14.05. I wonder if it's because of the July 4th sale, the B1G1 wouldn't work before noon (I went in at 11:30 am).
Is the store locator on blockbuster.com working for you guys?

I live close to one and just visited it, but the system says no stores around me.
It has been flaky for the past few days for me, as I've been looking up out of area stores and it works/doesn't work ever few hours it seems.
I just googled blockbuster and onye of the results was a map that showed all that were close to me
The only thing to watch out for is stores that have closed. Google still lists stores that have been closed for years by me. I've actually used Bing to find the stores too, it still had on that closed two months ago, but it least it didn't have the really old listings.

Traveled all around the San Antonio area today scouring for games to pick up. First few Blockbusters I went to were a complete bust. There were signs up for the sale (at least) but nothing of interest. One of the stores still had a few of the $9.99 no manual-no case games though. Weird. Another Blockbuster actually had someone standing outside under a tent with a display rack full of games (and some used DVDs). Strangely though, there were no games in the display rack that were $14.99 or under, so I don't see the purpose of making this poor guy stand out in the 100 degree weather promoting a promo that doesn't apply to the games. Oh well.

Finally scored GTA4 and Quantum of Solace at my third Blockbuster. Traded those puppies in along with Fable 2 for Fight Night Round 4. I was really hoping for a Bioshock for PS3 but the only Bioshock copies I saw were for 360 and were disc only. Oh, and I'm sure the computer system automatically updates the prices for used games, but I saw a copy of GTA4 used marked as $54.99. Something tells me that one wasn't moving very far.

Overall not the best haul but then again my choices of stores is considerably weak. Ironically the only location I actually found games I wanted was the store that didn't have any signs posted.

The sale has been active since Tuesday. Any CAGs who wanted anything to keep would have gone out then or Weds by the latest. It's definitely fair game to buy up everything for flipping at this point (especially if the sale is getting flaky and may be ending soon). One of the stores I got a ton of stuff at last night looked virtually untouched even though they had all the games outside (in the 94 degree heat) and clearly marked as on sale. As usual it is hit-or-miss. Some stores never had much to begin with, and others are well stocked to this day.

metallicoholic - that's not ironic, it makes sense. With one exception (the store I mentioned above) I've found the best stuff at stores where it wasn't marked. Or, even better, stores where it was marked but the games weren't marked correctly (Mario & Sonic marked $29.99, GTA IV marked $29.99, etc). Speaking of which, you should have snagged that "$54.99" GTA IV as it would have been just $14.99.

After searching some crappy stores I did fine one that had a OK selection.

I got Frontline, Spiderwick Chronicles, Turok, and Okami (wii) for about $18. All games even had artwork and instructions and excellent shape.

They also had several Spiderman WOS and GTA 4 for those interested in flipping for Fight Night 4.

Is it just me, or would it make sense to hold onto any games less than $8 and wait for the next inevitable "Trade in 3, get +$10" at Gamestop?

If you can hold onto those games for a few weeks until that promotion comes around again you're guaranteed +$3.33 to each title.

Really, only $8+ titles are worth trading in right now because the 1.4x will net you at least $3 or above.

Can someone check my logic in that?

The TIV's may drop 3-5 bucks if you wait.

Thanks for the list IO, I was able to do another round of a couple of stores and make a nice profit on flips to GS & Amazon.

I've made it my new goal to flip into a HDTV via Amazon, so every little bit helps!

Mario & Sonic @ the Olympics is a great flip to Amazon right now with $18.50 (today only), $7.50 --> $18.50 = 2.47 ratio.

D'oh! I got rid of my two yesterday at GS. I guess I got $18 for them, so that's not bad but I wouldn't have prefererred $18.50 in Amazon monies to that. The other problem, though, was that one had a BBV rental cover (thus no UPC) and I don't think either had a manual - so they may have been untradable to Amazon anyway.

Picked up the following today for $23.98 -

PS3 Folklore $11.99
PS3 Cabelas Dangerous Hunts 2009 $11.99
DS Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon $11.99
DS Ninjatown $11.99

These were all marked at $14.99, but I guess they were having a friends and family sale today, so the computer automatically gave me another 20% off.

My haul from a single store:

:ps3:

GTA4

:360:

Iron Man
Incredible Hulk
GRAW 2

:ds:
TWEWY

:wii:
Mario Sonic Olympics
De Blob
Wall-E

I kept GTA4 and GRAW2 for myself, the rest went were traded to GS.

If only I could find a decent :br: to pair with Role Models :headache:

Well, I'm glad to see that as I was just htinking of running to a bunch of stores to see if I could get the B1G1 + 20%. But my family wouldn't like that too much ;).

Ah, that would be because it was a prepack POG game (one of the clear case disc-only refurb games they sent out several weeks ago). Those were $9.99 and then dropped to $6.99 - you were lucky to find a GTA IV still sitting there. All I've seen is stuff like Spiderman Friend or Foe, Crackdown, and some sports games (in the clear cases with the prepack POG bar codes that is).

So many misses today, ran into two copies of Spiderman WoS and a copy of Folklore at 3 seperate stores, but when it came time to buy they were actually OOS =( Finding that third game to make the FNR4 set is pretty hard, run into a bunch of QoS, a few GTA here and there but its not much use if I cant find that third game to complete the set =/

The chances are great depending on your area. Ive went to 3 stores so far. The first one I skipped on a lot of good stuff since I was only looking for games for the FNR4 deal. The second and third stores I walked out with 18 and 16 games respectively. The second store was putting out more games as I was checking out. I can still visit more stores in my area. I'll probably go back out next week.
Is the store locator on blockbuster.com working for you guys?

I live close to one and just visited it, but the system says no stores around me.
Yeah, the Blockbuster store located is busted. Just use Google and they should pop up there.

On a brighter note, I was able to find Disgaea 2 PS2 for 14.99. Most of the stores I've been to only have sports titles and such for the ps2, pretty rare to find a complete copy of Disgaea 2.

It dawned on me that they would be open so I have a them a call. Its going to be running tomorow and will be going on until "sometime next week". YYMV? Hope my local one goes on that long as well. w00t!

I was thinking of picking up 3 games and trying to get the FNR4, but I would just be reselling FN because I don't want it. So I figure it's not even worth it, I wish they did it for Bigs 2.

I picked up the last remaining bare bones copy of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows in the NE Ohio area. I'll have to piece together the instructions and cover art, but the savings was worth it.

Well, I hit the jackpot today at a Blockbuster that I would normally not go to. Actually, had the fiance with me so I was able to do this properly. I boughty all the games for $10 together and had her buy the $15 together. I loved how they had all the $14.99 games with the regular priced games and they had all the $10 or less games in a bin off to the side. I noticed that they had several QoS PS3 and Spiderman: Web of Shadows PS3 but they were priced $19.99 and $24.99.

So, I was able to get these:
Each of these were $5
Incredible Hulk Wii x2
Wall E Wii
Iron Man Xbox 360 x2
The World Ends with You DS (Bought this to trade but my fiance jacked me for it to play it)

Each of these were $7.50
Baja: Edge of Control Xbox 360
Bioshock Xbox 360
Grand Theft Auto IV Xbox 360 (Debating on if I should just trade this in with the tiered deal instead of trying to use it to get another copy of Fight Night Round 4)
Quantum of Solace Xbox 360
Bioshock Xbox 360
Baja: Edge of Control Xbox 360

I will be having some fun at Gamestop tomorrow. Actually, have another BB that I will hit up near my church tomorrow.
Does anyone know what they're selling Rock Band 2 for? I can't imagine 14.99.

Sorry for the double post.
For what console? I've seen the PS3 version of the game only for $14.98 being clearanced at local Target stores. :360: version is more expensive and not yet on clearance.

Heh, I don't think anyone is actually keeping the game. :) It's been mentioned before but get FNR4 with a gift receipt and return it for a giftcard, then get what you want.

I'd trust the BBV site before google. Google usually shows the stores that have been closed forever. Just call to see if the store is open before making a long trip.

Well, I opted for Tomb Raider Anniversary and Dark Sector for b1g1, and I added Uncharted:Drakes fortune for an additional 19.99. For a total of about $30. Not bad when considering at one point those 3 games would have cost me $180 total.

I still have a GPS unit I borrowed from my brother and havent returned yet, so I've been using it to BBV hunt when I'm in a new area. So far though, I've run into about 4 closed stores, a bit annoying, even though these maps are the 2009 update -_-

damn... the blockbusters in my area suck. I was looking for GTA IV and/or Bioshock for PS3 but didn't find either at any blockbuster. I didn't even see 360 versions of those. I didn't even want to do the GS trade thing. I was going to keep those. All I saw was copies of crap after crap. Oh well.

I found these today:

PS2 God Hand (complete) $6.99
PS2 Wild Arms 4 (complete) $6.99

I also saw Valkyrie Profile 2, Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, and Capcom Classics Vol. 2 for $6.99 each, but I passed on them since they didn't have the booklets.

After gettin TWEWY and Locks Quest earlier in the week for $10 for my collection , i decided to take advantage of the FNR4 deal, i was hesitant because i dont want the game...but its just too good of a deal to pass up and i figured i could return it.

Figured i wouldn't find anything but managed to score-

X360 QOS
X360 Bioshock
$15.89

BTW, for you achievement/trophy whores..ive read getting platinum in FNR4 is next to impossible, not like Wipeout HD tough...but more like u gotta get lucky. Sorry to get off subject.
SpongeBob SquarePants featuring NickToons: Globs of Doom for Wii tagged 14.99 used at bbv, new drop?
Nah, we knew about that. I've seen it at several stores. If it isn't in the OP I'll add it though.

Edit - Yeah, it was already on there but just as "Spongebob Squarepants" - I just added the Globs of Doom part.

Well, those two were tough. I've gone to about 12 stores now. I've only seen PS3 Bioshock at 2. One one had a 360 version (happened to be at my local store left over from the previous B1G1). I didn't see a single 360 GTA IV and only had store had the PS3 version (though they had 3 of them).

I too havent been able to find any 360 GTAIV, however, I've ran into a few Ps3 copies, it seems like all stores in my area held onto those a bit longer while letting go of the 360 earlier

I know those would probably have been hard to get but I was hoping to find at least one. It probably doesn't help that I live in the Los Angeles area either ;).
what dose this mean?
It means that when I showed her what I was buying she didn't pay it any attention but when she went through the stack of games to look over the discs with me she saw that I was buying TWEWY and grabbed it. She immediately put it in her DS and started to play it after I paid for it. I wasn't expecting that but hey to give her a cheap game that she will actually play is well worth it to me.
I can see how this would be misleading.
Scored a mispriced copy of x360-grid for $6.99 bought it universe at war.
Dude...that's sweet. That's the main game I was going for, but the price tag said $29.99, so I didn't even bother checking. Does anyone know if this was a fluke, or is Grid cheaper and on the B1G1 list?

Yeah, I grabbed the following for a grand total of $24.36.

FEAR 2
Spider Man Web of Shadows
Mass Effect
Ninja Gaiden 2

FEAR 2 was definitely mispriced. They had 2 more of them for $29.99.

Went back this morning and grabbed Army of Two and Lego Batman for $10.81.

The final haul after scouring five different stores along Long Island. In one place the guy working there had no idea there was a sale despite the sign, but he was cool about it. He said they hardly get any video game sales even one week into it, and he was right there were like 100+ games still in bins. All of these games are going into my library:

:360: Guitar Hero 3 $10
:360: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith $10
:ps3: Madden 08 $10
:ps3: MLB 08 $10
:ps3: Oblivion $15
:360: Lost Odyssey $15
:360: GTA 4 $15
:ps3: Lego Indiana Jones $15
:ps3: Enchanted Arms $15
:ps3: Folklore $15
:360: Ninja Gaiden 2 $15
:360: Devil May Cry 4 $15
:360: F.E.A.R. Files $10
:ps3: Mercenaries 2 $10
:ps3: Bioshock $15
:ps3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune $20 (got bioshock for free with it)
:ps3: F.E.A.R. $10
:ps3: The Club $10

Thanks to the CAG who posted this deal!
