Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

And just in case you all want to know how to get rid of a "store-level" ban, it's quite simple. The store level bans are basically warnings we put on your account and that's it. Stay inactive for 3 months and you will drop out of our system. Once you are out of our system, we have to bring you back by scanning your card. Once you are back in our system all of the warnings are cleared :). It's as if you never had a warning on your account.

Is it 3 months? See, someone else had told us it was 6 months and after not going for 3-4 months I decided to try trading and much to my surprise I was able to no problem. So I thought the DM must have cleared it up. But maybe it just cleared up on it's own.

gah. I'm not seeing any new GS -> BBV flips even with gamestops 30% off coupon :bomb:

my GS credit is running low and i was hoping to build up again to take advantage of amazon flips
I thought it was really cheap, but I wasn't 100% sure. I think I saw it at one local store when this sale first started, but I didn't get back to there to grab it and now it's disappeared. It was actually complete too, which is a shock since many of the games I've been seeing for the B1G1 are ending up like Gamestop quality, meaning disc only with no coverart or manuals.

I passed up a copy of Hulk for PS3 last night since it only had the 'display only' coverart and NO manual. If anyone has the game and could tell me if you REALLY can obliterate the city this time around, then I may pick it up at another BBV before the end of the sale.

Otherwise if it's just a port of Ultimate Destruction with a toned down color pallette, I'll pass.
yes you can once you hulk up your powers you can *hulk smash!* the game is fun. i picked my copy at BBV months back.:bomb:

Yay, scored a newly converted GTA IV 360 and Worms (wii).
Now I can get rid of the Hollywood video verison of GTA I keep forgetting to get rid of and keep one with a 'real' cover.
Saw a God of War 2 Greatest Hits, Madden 09 PSP, Lego Batman PSP. Nothing I 'need', but might 'have' to flip a Bioinic Comando or two.

Ok, assuming all of the values held from Hawaii's list, here is what would be decent to use the 360 coupon on(most of these are 1:1 or a bit less =P). Prices before coupon+ edge:

Spectral Force 17.99 gs - 12 bbv
Supreme Commander 17.99 gs - 12 bbv
MLB 2k9 18.99 gs - 15 bbv
(phone quote it's value held) Naruto Broken Bond 26.99 gs - 19 bbv
Monster Jam 12.99 gs - 8 bbv
Hail to the chimp 9.99 gs - 8 bbv
X-blades 26.99 gs - 19 bbv
and last but not least, Race Pro 19.99 gs - 19 bbv

Not bad for anyone looking to pick up some more stuff before the b1g1 ends.

For the tiered trade deal, the only 2X flips are GTA IV 360, House of the Dead 2/3, Okami, Bioshock PS3, Mario and Sonic, Crash of the Titans, Wall-E Wii, TWEWY DS, Hitman 360, Brain Age 2, and Fire Emblem DS?

Assuming all these held, the new 50% off used games deal at GS that starts the 13th has sports games for 40 cents after EDGE which would make a nice trade in fodder to get to 6 games.

i wouldn't wait since TIVs go down any day. Alot of people just got burned by Hulk and Ironman.

There are plenty of 99cent games at Gamestop right now. Just do a playstation2 search and sort by price. Your local gamestop will have plenty of these games.

all tivs held so I'm tempted to build up some credit to get the netbook that Bbv will begin to sell next week. Or I could just go the amazon route and probably get a better one.
Just a heads up looks like BBV will start selling the Archos 10 netbook next week for $299.00. It's only going to be in select stores so ymmv. Not sure if that's a good price or not(probably not) but I thought I would put it out there.
That netbook.

Did my last flip today.

Purchased Bionic Commando ( PS3 ) @ GS for $19.99 credit

Traded in @BB $25.00

Bought B1G1 and traded in at GS@ ( + 50% bonus )

DS Professor Layton - 7.50 -> $11.00 (16.50)
DS Fire Emblem - 7.50 -> 10.00 (15.00)
XB360 Condemned 2 - 3.50 (6.37)
Wii Igor - 3.50 -> 3.50 (5.25)
PS2 Naruto UN2 - 1.50 -> 1.75 (2.63)
PS2 Shrek the Third - 1.50 -> 1.75 (2.63)

Not too bad . $20 GS credit -> BB -> $48.38 GS credit

Stopped by two Blockbusters today looking for DS games. One store had virtually nothing. The other had stuff like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 (both versions), Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Iron Man, Transformers, Viva Pinata, Lock's Quest. I picked up Viva Pinata and Lock's Quest, both of which were complete with the original case and manual. They were $9.99 each, so I got both for $10.xx. Nice deal.

Maybe another odd find: Contra 4 for the DS. Tagged $9.99. Coupled it with IronMan 360 then flipped IM before the TIV dropped for $13.xx. Kept Contra 4.

One Blockbuster put out some new games today, two employees were scouring through the display, and bought 8 of them. I'm not sure what titles, though. There was a Big Brain: Wii Degree left over, but passed as there was nothing to go along with it.

Another Blockbuster had the same stuff that they had last Friday, so definitely YMMV on new titles.

The computer is a mini laptop, like 10.4'' screen. Archos. 160gig HD, 1gig ram, some kind of "atom" processor(never heard of this, only for laptops/minis I guess? I don't pay attention to mobile tech). Comes with a tv tuner(I guess, sounded like it), wireless card.

Infact: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-10?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

that first one seems preeeettty similar. You'd have to compare comp vs comp, but same price looks like roughly the same specs so...there you go.
Readthepost - it's just that many CAGs have found out only after returning later to trade something else in that they are banned. It happened to me that way. It is usually a store-level thing. In my case the DM called a few stores and told them to put in a ban. Eventually it all got cleared up. This was for trading copies of Beowulf in to about 4 stores. I did one PS3 and 1 360 copy at the same time at a couple of stores which raised their suspicion. All it takes is one clerk being a "junior detective" who takes a whim and runs with it. You may or may not be able to clear things up with the DM later. They usually assume you are trading in stolen items so if you offer up receipts that can clear you. But sometimes they just don't care and won't do anything about it.

A few CAGs have been hit with system-wide bans but that is much more rare. In all cases, I believe, you are only limited from trading - you can still buy, rent, use your leftover credit, etc.

Having said all that, more likely than not you are fine. I just wouldn't take the word of a clerk or two about it either way though. They NEVER call and let anyone know by the way, as nice as that would be (a call and an explanation would be appropriate but I've never heard of that). You'll only find out when you try to trade something and a note pops up for the clerk telling them not to let you trade.
luckily this didn't happen to me the only time I did something massive was the stranglehold flip

Fight night deal ends Sunday I still need to flip some more games!

wow i got to this deal much much much too late. my one blockbuster which usually has a bunch of good stuff was completely cleaned out - not a single game for 14.99 and under. the other local blockbuster didn't even have a B1G1 sale, or they ran out and got rid of the sign because they didn't have a single game either..

Traded in today at GS (base) (40%+EDGE)

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon NDS (10.00) 15
Samba De Amigo Wii (3.00) 4.5
Narnia: Prince Caspian PS3 (2.25) 3.37
Mario and Sonic: Olympic Games Wii (11.5) 17.25
Lego Indiana Jones Wii (5.50) 8.25
Condemned 2: Bloodshot X360 (4.25) 6.37
Frontlines: Fuel of War X360 (3.50) 5.25

Caspian was a bad buy. Lego and Samba weren't great either, but I came out ahead. :)

i noticed that some of you guys are posting gs tiv at 50%. how are you getting it? i thought the deal was to trade in 6 games and get a bonus 40%.

and i was lucky enough to find a 360 gta4. should include it in a fnr4 bundle or in 6 game trade? thanks.

The 50% bonus at GS includes both the 40% for trading 6 games, plus the 10% Edge card bonus.

If your combined trade-ins and used purchases at GS in a year total more than $150, which isn't hard to do, then the Edge card is well worth the money ($15 a year).

Well if you could get 3 other games that might not trade for so much, I'd say put gta iv in a 6+ game trade. It's value is what, like 14~ something base? That's pretty high. But if you can't get a different game to take it's place...I guess it matters if you want the game.

Guys I got banned like 2 years ago... I went in in say March and they had notes on my file but couldnt tell why they were there... the manager came over and i said i had lost my card but found my wifes copy recently... They had to let that account go and open me a new one. So it can be longer than 3 or 6 months.

Entirely depends how they put it on your account. Somethings will stay forever, some won't. Most things are store only, so to get you on other stores, they would need to call. Some holds transfer over, but I've never seen an account on hold from another store that actually described WHY it was on hold, other than just having a balance. That's over 3 years of BBV talking.

Note about BBV trade-in values - a clerk told me they change once a week, on Tuesdays. can someone verify? if this is the case - got a few more days of the $25 bionic commando/wheelman ps3

ah, thanx for the info. i'm new to this flipping business - about 1 week into it and am making about a 80% roi. total investment so far a lil bit into the 4 figures... yeah, i've been spending 10-12 hours a day on this, hitting target, bbv, gs, and more rarely bb, sam's, kmart, walmart, sears. gonna try out fye's trading in (so far been doing bbv and gs for value). anyone have tips about trading in @ FYE?

after seeing some of the posts i'm a lil concerned about being banned. i've traded in a lot at GS - 4 FNR4's + 00's worth of credit, bought the same games (bionic/wheelman/race pro/cranium/tenchu) a lot, all in 1 week. also, i've hit about 30 bbv's in the past week (traded in in about 5 of them). since i'm so spread out over a large geography... would i be safe? or does bbv have a master system for banning?

finally, a note about bbv value - it is convertable into gift cards (w/o taxes/fees) for many food places, like pizza hut, burger king, subway, chili's, olive garden, red lobster's, applebees, as well as some other random things (playstation network, x360 live points, prepaid cell phone $, movie ticket gift cards, etc.)

also you can convert into $25, $50 or $100 visa gift cards w/ an activation fee. the fee on the $100 is $5.95 (best deal of the 3). i may end up w/ a few of those after this weekend. lol... i always get asked "do you have enough on the card" when checking out trying to buy $40 worth of games... and when they swipe and find several hundred $ worth of credit, they're like oh... lol

Sorry, not being mean - there was a lot of drama over those cards last Fall and pages upon pages of discussion about them here. They were supposed to not work with credit purchases since they came back (after they were removed from the stores for a while due to abuse). But I think others have reported getting them here and there since then. But once the trade-in values dropped I don't think most people really consider them worth getting anyway.

That reminds me, though, I still have a balance on one or two of those. I guess I should use those up!

thanx for the heads up - i'll go look those threads up if i get some time. i was planning to spread out the credit between gift cards. i did pick up a subway GC today and it went through
And just in case you all want to know how to get rid of a "store-level" ban, it's quite simple. The store level bans are basically warnings we put on your account and that's it. Stay inactive for 3 months and you will drop out of our system. Once you are out of our system, we have to bring you back by scanning your card. Once you are back in our system all of the warnings are cleared :). It's as if you never had a warning on your account.
what do u mean inactive? by not trading in or simply not using your BB card at all? I was never banned but just curious

new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date

Don't have your BB card scanned at that store during that time.

Unfortunately no big rental conversion this week. Every store will be a little different based on inventory but nothing big for us to take advantage of the last few days of the sale. Did find a the last GTA IV in the district and a copy of mirrors edge so I might do the fight night thing 1 more time.

So much for price changes every 2 weeks. We just received a pretty big reprice report that will take effect MONDAY so you'll have 1 day to take advantage of the sale. Games dropping to the $14.99 price point in our store.

NDS-guitar hero on tour
PS3-NCAA football 09
X360-monster jam
WIi-Ben 10 alien force
Wii-guitar hero world tour

those are the only one dropping to $14.99 in our store but the reprice report has 30 titles on it so I'm sure there are other goodies out there. If your friendly with your store ask them to take a look at it that way we can know what to look out for since there won't be a lot of time to do this.

Added the GS TIV for those of us in the FLIPPING BUSINESS.
Doesn't the tiered promo end Sunday at GS, any one see what's next?

GHWT for Wii and DS for $14.99--->$34.50 at gamestop with 50% bonus, just need 4 fillers.

I dunno about the NCAA 09. The TIV is from late May and probably dropped quite a bit since then, especially with ncaa 10 coming out on Tues.

Even if it held at $7, it's pretty useless, unless you want to play it.

Here some stuff I traded in today.
:360: Lego Indiana Jones - $6
:ps3: Singstar ABBA - $8
:360: Race Pro - $19

Was able to get a copy of Endless Ocean along with Quantum of Solace.
The last day of the sale is the 13th as hawaiiboy has stated.
Can someone working for BBV confirm this is the nationwide ending? I checked around 2 BBV here in Hawaii and took down all signs, so I was just wondering if the computer will still do the sale. Locally they also said this B1G1 sale started Thur July 2nd and not June 30th like nationwide, but the computers still did the sale on june 30th when rung up.

I traded in Wheelman (X360) for $22 today, it looks like it might have dropped a few bucks because I think it was $25 recently. FYI.
