Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
The VV's are technically not giftcards so the CA protection law doesn't work for them.

My last 2 VV's got hit with the charge for inactivity and they were bought in SoCal
Damn. I didn't know that. One of the VV that I had was actually a gift that my former boss gave me a couple of years ago. I don't recall how much I had left on it after I used it at CC but I had no idea that they had taken out the fees.
Wasn't there rumored to be a 20% off sale coming soon?
I am doubtful about that, BBV usually has some sprt of promo involving B1G1 or 2/20 3/20 4/20 on their dvds, I cant see them going into another type of discount system

I think you're right, I just remember someone posting 20% in some thread.

This thread... An employee posted something about receiving some signs for 20% off of video games. The only sign I've seen at my store is get 10% off any used games when trading in games. No idea if it's in effect yet.

WTF!? A trade-in promo!? That would be much more shocking than a switch to 20% off used games. They haven't had an honest-to-goodness trade-in promo in a couple of years! That means they actually want to encourage trade-ins, just like in the old days. Wow... We'll see if it actually happens though. (And while it would be interesting if it does happen, it is sort of a weak promo - remember trade 3 get any used game for $5?).

yes at our store we received new signage for 20% off used games. i'm assuming this is going to be used sometime in the near future (though this is bbv so you never know). we didnt get in the 10% off sign like darkrider posted. stores are supposed to be rearranging the game section again beginning today. if you've been into a bbv you would've noticed a top 10 section for games, well in addition to that we are now breaking them down into sports, family and action games(talk about a pita). i havent checked next weeks map yet but i'll post if anything good is in it.

One BBV by me has all the games in stacks on the counter since they ran out of room. At least it's easier to see the titles on the spine than flipping through them standing up.

That is messed up, especially when they've killed their TIVs. They need to come up with decent promotions and keep them.

So is the activity of this thread a sign of a new negative reputation, or does Gamerush still offer better trade in values than Gamestop?

How much does Halo 3 go for nowadays?

saw this tagged 19.99 so maybe 7$

So, has Blockbuster corporate finally realized that people can just go to Gamestop if they wanna get a good pounding on game trades and raised their values back to something reasonable again.....or do they still SUCK for trading games anymore?

Last I checked our TIV's were still low. I work tonight, I'll look up a bunch of new releases and let you know if no one else has by that time =)

Thanks Vortextk. Although, I really don't have any 'new' releases right now, though I have a few games that might be worth more than a couple bucks(Little Big Planet being one of them).

Hell, my stuff is pretty much going to Amazon now. It's funny, though, because the current Amazon promo is very much like the last good Gamerush trade-in promo. At Amazon, if you trade $60 or more worth of games you get a $30 promo code to use on a game purchase. The last great GR promo was trade 2 games, get any preorder for $30 (on what were mostly $50 games back then). That was pretty sweet when you could pretty much get any upcoming game for $30 (paid for, of course, with the then high-valued trades). In fact, I still have unopened games from that deal (Ultimate Spiderman for GC, FF XII just to name a few).

Actually, the Amazon promo is better - sure, you need to send more stuff in and the trade-in values aren't nearly as good as BB/GR used to be of course, but it is $30 instead of $20, applies to any games, and can be stacked with gold box quick picks plus the ECA discount and whatever other discount/promo Amazon happens to be running.

Not to mention Amazon is actually going to GET those preorders with near certainty - it was always a crapshoot at Gamerush (though it used to be better than it is now). Gamerush never used to get Atlus titles for one thing (though of course you could preorder them no problem ).

Does anyone know if the Guitar Hero's for DS at blockbuster come with the fret or not. I saw some used ones on sale at a local blockbuster and I was just curious if it was the game only or not.

2: As for any deals, nothing I've seen hinted at, but honestly cag would be a better place to find out than most employees lol. I found out about the last b1g1 here first.

Same here. I've been looking at our communications updates and the map for each week and I haven't seen anything that's worth mentioning.

I wonder if BBV will get the PS3 (Slim)?! I have $70 credit.....I'm looking to possibly dump my 60GB BC system. I like it, but I have ZERO PS2 games, so does not benefit me. Plus, I think the fan is a bit louder on the 60GB. If anyone is interested, PM ;)

Can someone let me know if the 3 for $20 deal is back for used dvds $15 and under, and whether copies of The Unborn have arrived in the pre-viewed section yet?

I saw 2/20 for 15 and under at my local BBV yesterday.

no offense but you'll probably have better luck calling blockbuster

Some nice deals in here, but I have noticed that BBV has slowed down major. Hollywood Video seems to have more deals with BBV nowadays.

May just start a thread for Hollywood Video....

I'm wondering the same thing. I have $150 in credit I would like to use up and that would be the perfect way to do it.

Well, I see Blockbuster still hasn't gone back to being a favorable place to trade stuff in, so I guess I'll keep looking for the next flipping opportunity between GS and HWV or whatever.

Kinda sucks that they went from being WAYYYY better than GS to being WAYYYYY worse now.

Thats what happens when people totally rape a gift horse ** cough**
Just like the old saying..."Never rape a gift horse in the mouth."
Ok, I'm confused. What's the real saying. Wasn't it something about the gift horse that lays the golden egg??

Did stop at a BBV for the first time in awhile last night, place was dead. 2 of the BBV near me are in strip malls that have a lot of vacant stores. Doesn't look promising for those particular stores.
On the video game front: Hannah Montana Movie Game was $14.99! Woo freakiin' Hoo, now just need a B1G1 sale. They even have PS3 version(why'd they even make that game for PS3, IDK)

Can someone let me know if the 3 for $20 deal is back for used dvds $15 and under, and whether copies of The Unborn have arrived in the pre-viewed section yet?

yes 3 for $20 started again today and yes unborn should be available at every store. Stores are doing 5 for $20 on $9.99 titles or less on the weekend(fri-sun) on a rotating basis. In our district 4 stores did them last weekend another 4 stores will be doing it this weekend.

Oh cmon now. I only took like 7-10 copies of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam for both 360 and PS3 into a few(read: 6-7)of my local Blockbuster stores while they were getting between $33 and $35 a copy after buying them from Circuit City for like $10-12 or whatever they were on clearance.:D

So when are they going to lower the price of used bluray discs. I have a coupon for a free movie 15$ or under and the 16 price is driving me nuts.

That's why I said it sarcastically, since I know I'm a hypocrite for telling others not to 'hoard', but yet I only do it when it's going to make me a bunch over what I paid.:D

Otherwise, I'd leave the games there for someone who wants to play them.

So, if anything, I'm a selective hoarder.:D

Sure but you cant be a selective hoarder and that makes it alright.. Hoarding is Hoarding Mr. Man..... I think im going to start to be a hoarder as well seeing about 75% of the CAG now do it and find excuses to make it alright if they are doing it... Another Hoarder in my area will make it just that much harder to get anything lol.

This is true and what makes me REALLY laugh is how uninformed some of the employees at some of these stores I've been nabbing clearance games at are.

When I picked up the 120gb HDD for the 360 a couple nights ago from Kmart, the cashier was shocked as hell that it came up $15. Thing is, he works there and ALWAYS tells me that 'the price marked IS the price, we do all our updates and properly mark stuff'.

The expression on his face when it came up $15 was priceless though.

I don't really consider myself a hoarder, maybe because it's just such a negative term, but I am a hoarder. If there were 10 copies of a game that I could flip for pure profit, I would take all 10 games and look for 10 more at the next store. I'm into flipping for legal personal gain, so that means that everyone else is a competitor. If I don't grab those 10 games someone else will and that is money lost for me. Maybe I'm too competitive about flipping, but it's a hobby I greatly enjoy.

LOL I have been with CAG since 06' and usually when I go on a cheap game run for myself my brother will tag along and I usually will buy a single copy of games I want to play and my bro will clean out anything else laying around I tell him is on clearance and he puts it on FLeabay so basically I have been supporting hoarding if not directly done by me lol...

So I guess water under the bridge for all the bashing I have done on the subject over time... The only thing I will say that still irks me the most is the people here that get these deals and then want to turn profits on fellow CAG... Thats wrong and will always be... Hook your homies up :)

It's true that if you don't take them, someone else will, I found that out with the Hollywood Video sale, I was there the first day, and could have taken everything if I wanted to, well I go back the next day and everything that was any good was gone. next time I am going to get most of the good stuff, and sell it to CAG people for what I got it for, its not like I would make a million dollars selling it on ebay or CL anyway.

As for people that wipe out everything in a 50 mile radius for personal profit only, well that's just plain greedy, but it's a free country, and that's just my opinion, I have had many opportunities to do this, but I haven't

With my previous comment said, I don't sell games on Ebay or anything like that, and I don't take advantage of fellow gamers directly. Usually when I hoard I just sell them back to the companies, i.e. BBV, GS, Amazon, etc. Unless there is a good opening for cash, it usually results in credit at those locations. If I go to GS and see a copy of Cranium Bukkake I'll buy it and head to Blockbuster to sell it, then I see a Mario & Sonic at Blockbuster and take it to GS to sell it. That's primarily the type of flipping I've done.

One form of hoarding that drives me nuts, similar to the HWV sale recently, is when employees buy up everything before the store even opens. Some franchises have rules against that while others don't. I know if my flipping efforts lately I've heard countless stories of gaming store employees showing up and cleaning out a place before the general public even gets a shot. That's the type of thing that causes me to lose any sort of loyalty to a franchise, I'll just clean up on what I can and not go back to HWV for anything else unless it's a great deal.
