Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I was just at the Monrovia, CA Blockbuster and they had tons of games there, many from the clearance list. For PS3, lots of Heavely Swords, Hot Shots Golf, Soul Calibur 4 (360 also), Mercs 2, Grid (360 also), Dead Space, Condemned 2... I didn't pay attention to the Wii selection, but I know they had a good sized glass cabinet full of Wii games, so I'm gonna say if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit to see what you can buy.

Went to several Blockbusters around the South Florida area and was able to find everything I was looking for except ...

Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Dynasty Warriors 6 (360)
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)

Anyone seen these in the area ?

so I can't really find a list of what is goin g on there...so, is this a USED or NEW game sale (or BOTH) at Blockbusters.. Can anyone direct me to what is on the sale and if it is taking place at standalone blockbuster retailers.
The staff (including managers) cannot adjust the used price. The new game prices are considered "sale" prices.
I've had blockbuster employees adjust prices on both used and new games if the price was marked wrong.
second haul...

Smash bros 9.99
wario land shake it 9.99

flipped to hastings for ~70 ish
These are not normal prices so let's not get everyone excited. This is either a franchise store or one that had a bunch of stuff mismarked.

only 10 bucks each? new or used? can u take a picture of the receipt?
Thats a highly YMMV, as in you have some damn good luck on that price. Receipts will not help at all at blockbuster because they DO NOT price match. Your join date of this month means you have not been around enough to know this, so as a warning, based on your last few posts, raising hell in the store is only going to make you look like an ass and you probably wont be able to shop there any more.

[small rant]
And to all those asking if this is on sale or that is on sale, the best way to find out is to go into the store and ask if they have any new games. Check the shelves, ask if there are any not on the shelves, ask them to scan the games to check prices. You can even start calling the stores around you, but that might tip the workers off and they will buy up all the games themselves since these new games are priced CHEAP. Even cheaper if you have store credit there...
[end rant]
sounds fishy to me? MGS 4 for 9.99? Damn you!
Could be the one's in the clear plastic cases ?
Are you a Manhattan, KS CAG?
No, I don't live in the Little Apple anymore. I currently live outside of Dallas, TX.

Another game to add to the list is Conflict: Denied Ops (360). It was marked at 14.99, but unless they start giving it out for free I'd recommend avoiding it.

any one in the san jose area i really want to get uncharted and ratchet and clank Future tools! thanks! im gonna hit another blockbuster i know in the area of downtown
Picked up Spider-Man Friend or Foe for $10. I have to say I think the reviews were a bit rough on this game. I got it for my kids but it actually has turned out to be an enjoyable game to play.
Word of warning on this one. Everyone here has probably read the reviews. It is definitely an enjoyable game and I have no regrets at the $10 price point as I got it for my 4 and 5 year old for Easter. They opened it this morning. I let them play a lot more than they should have today but they are already on the very last level. They have limited video game experience. I helped them on a couple of the bosses but even on those they would have beaten them after no more than 4 or 5 tries.

They literally haven't died a single time.

Fun game. Definitely worth the $10, but Im amazed at how easy they made this game.

Im glad I got it for them those as in all honesty they seem to be having the greatest day of their lives playing this thing.

hey again guys, sorry I dont have a camera. but yes as many have said it is a franchise, i wish you guys the best and i hope yall have the same luck! this was a rare find, they have TONS of new release ~40 dollar games there for 9.99

OH YEAH, forgot they are all previously viewed (MGS4 was used as well without the manual)

Got most of what I was looking for yesterday, but no signs of Children of Mana anywhere around here. (Did manage to pick up Club House Games for $9.99)

Just got GTA4 used for 16 bucks after tax. The box looks totally new and it came with all manuals that seem fresh and never touched. I didnt even get it in the pre-owned box. the lady went and got me another box which may explain why it looks new.

For those of you that bought Rock Band for PS3 for $54.99:

Many Target stores have the Rock Band USB hubs on clearance for $4.98 now. I picked up 3 the other day (since they can be used on computers too). I'm using one on the computer the wife/kids use. And now I was just going to set up the Rock Band set from BBV and realized the first set doesn't come with a hub (I think RB2 does) so I'm opening up another to use with the PS3.

GTA IV used for $14.99 has been in effect since December. Too bad you guys missed it when it was B1G1 on used games $14.99 and under ;). Many of them are mint because they are rental overstock and were never played.

I found all the following $5 each brand new:

wii:
medal of honor heroes 2

ps3:
orange box
timeshift

psp:
daxter
dead head fred
death jr
grand theft auto liberty city stories
mx vs atv untamed
sims 2 pets

ds:
naruto ninja council 3

Most of the Wii game prices were the at my BB. I pick up...

Uncharted $20
Drawn for Life DS $ 10
Professor Layton $10
Assassin Creed.PS3 $10

how does blocbuster differiantiate between its new and used games. when to three an got a couple good games but one had some of the better ones i wanted. they looked new to me but they put previously used stickers on them with a higher price then this sale. when i lifted this sticker i saw a clearance sticker that hadnt been updated but no used on it.

Thanks OP. I got GTA4 collectors for 29.99 and drum roll please!!! A autographed copy of dmc4 collectors edition for 14.99. Yes thats correct, autographed. Both are for 360

Pretty horrible selection at my local, non-GR blockbuster. I only picked up Tony Hawk Proving Ground for $5. The only other worthwhile game was Skate, and I decided to wait for it to get cheaper.

Just picked up two titles at my local one. Add these to the list.

:ds: Contra 4 $9.99
:ps2: Soul Nomad & the World Eaters $14.99

how does blocbuster differiantiate between its new and used games at the register . when to three an got a couple good games but one had some of the better ones i wanted. they looked new to me but they put previously used stickers on them with a higher price then this sale. when i lifted this sticker i saw a clearance sticker that hadnt been updated but no used on it.

^Used games say pre owned, I believe in orange. And alot of them will be more expensive than the new ones now because it's only the new ones that have been discounted this time around. At least around here, the new stickers are red.

used games should have a sticker with a barcode either on the front or the back over the UPC. It is a longer type sticker, and they are supposed to scan that instead of the usual UPC barcode.
how many USB spots does the hub add?
It has 4 and is powered (so less heat for the PS3). It is normally $19.99 but has hit the 75% clearance at Target now (which is max before it goes to salvage).
how does blocbuster differiantiate between its new and used games. when to three an got a couple good games but one had some of the better ones i wanted. they looked new to me but they put previously used stickers on them with a higher price then this sale. when i lifted this sticker i saw a clearance sticker that hadnt been updated but no used on it.

yea but when the ring them. dont they scan the same barcode.
No, if they scan the UPC it will come up as new. They have little white strip barcodes that they put on used games. Sometimes these are on the cases on the floor and sometimes just on the cases where they store the games in the drawers/under the counter. So I could see them easily getting display cases for used and new mixed up at a lot of stores.

Um - taking it off won't work because if they are selling you a new copy it will be a new sealed copy. If they don't have one they won't give you the used one for the new game prices no matter whether there's a used bar code there or not. Also keepin mind the computer shows them store inventory so if they see 0 for the new they won't sell it. Now, possibly, if it says they have one but they can't find it maybe they'd do that - I dunno though.

At my blockbuster, they keep the new games in those huge clear plastic cases similar to what Best Buy does. The wrap was still on and the pink clearance sticker was on the front outside of the wrap. The sticker barcode was on the back of the wrap. Preowned games looked pretty old and had a preowned sticker on the case.
Thanks OP. I got GTA4 collectors for 29.99 and drum roll please!!! A autographed copy of dmc4 collectors edition for 14.99. Yes thats correct, autographed. Both are for 360
I remember hearing that they randomly distributed autographed copies of that game. Consider yourself lucky if that's your kind of thing. Only 100 were made.

Today's Pickups:

PS3
---------------------------------------------------
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - $24.99
Fallout 3: Collector's Edition - $39.99
GRID - $19.99
Uncharted - $19.99

I'll go back later or tomorrow to get Super Smash Brothers Brawl for $24.99
Should I bother getting any of the CoD or just wait till Modern Warfare 2?
Yes, both are decent single player and online is still active I believe. I may be heading out again today for some more to see what else is available.

EDIT: I went again....I give up. Nothing I really want....I don't want to lose my credit though if they go bankrupt...I hope they hold on for a few more months. Probably lots of stuiff others would like though.

PICS please :)
It's not on the list so I'll mention it.

Xbox 360 Mirrors Edge- $24.99
I remember someone mention it was like $8.99 & at my BB, they had a list of all the clearance items on sale & they did not list Mirrors Edge on there, so maybe all this YMMV thing?
