Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Picked up Rock Band 1 for the 360 today for $55. Thanks folks!
Is this a joke?
I picked it up for $20 used at Gamespot.

Heck, I picked up Rock Band 2 new for $45 at Blockbuster.

oops, I just figured it out, do you mean the full band set?
That is a good deal.

Alright, I went to another Blockbuster. I grabbed Rachet and Clank: ToD for $20. Fallout 3 was at 40, RB2 was 30, but decided not to grab it. A couple of GTAIV and MGS4 (probably at 30). There was a bunch of good 360 games in Fable, Halo, etc.

Thanks CAG! :D

Returned to my BBV which I thought had copies of Uncharted (Westchester, CA). Turns out, they never had any copies, but no one bothered removing the "display copy" boxes from the shelf. I was able to sneak a peek at the list and Uncharted wasn't even mentioned, which would imply that they had no copies in stock.

But it wasn't a complete failure, as I picked up:

Heavenly Sword - $14.99

But I snagged the only copy they had.

yes the RB1 bundles are $54.99 right now
It has 4 and is powered (so less heat for the PS3). It is normally $19.99 but has hit the 75% clearance at Target now (which is max before it goes to salvage)..
Do the usb extender/additional ports that come with Guitar Hero games allow them to be used as additional usb ports for anything you connect?

Do any PS3 Guitar Hero instruments work on PS3 Rock Band 1 or Rock Band 1 instruments work on any Guitar Heroes? How are the quality of the Rock Band bundle instruments?

I went back to a couple BBV I went to yesterday and hit up a couple of other ones trying to get a few more 360 games I wanted. The two in Irvine, CA I went to didn't have much in terms of 360 games outside of GTA IV, but they had a pretty good collection of PS3 (MGS4, Rachet, Soul Calibur) and Wii (SMG). The same with the two I went to in Tustin, CA. Not much in terms of 360 games (although I did get a copy of Grid for $20), but had a good collection of PS3 Games (MGS4, COD4, Rachet, Bioshock). Also saw a few copies of Nights Journey of Dreams for the Wii for $10 which I believe haven't been mentioned yet.

rock band 1 game only for 360 is $9.99
is it worth getting MGS4 for 30 bucks?
Both MGS 2 and 3 got very cheap a few years after their release. I'd wait.

WTF Dood, when are we gonna turn the BBV thread into a private group? There's too many nOObs here now that the deals are hot again! LOL

Anyway, it's funny but all of us posted here a ton less in the last few months when everything went sour with BBV's trade-in's...I know I hardly ever had a reason to check up on it.

But DAMN am I happy to have a reason to go into BBV once again and spend some credit!

I'm not sure I follow you there. The USB dongles I got with GHIII and GH Aero bundles for PS3 do not have additional ports or anything - they simply take up a port. That is why I wanted the Rock Band hub originally, as I have the Eye and a charging cable hooked up all the time and thought it would be nice to also have the 2 GH guitars plugged in at the same time. Now I have all that + RB drums and a RB guitar. Oh crap, and the mic too...

As for the second question, I guess I could have answered that earlier as I have them to test but we just used the RB1 guitar instead. I think the GH ones work on it though - not 100% sure on that though. I think the RB1 instrument quality is OK. I have the RB2 drums for the 360 and of course the older one is noisier and wired, which is somewhat annoying. But the guitar, at least, is wireless so that's an advantage over the 360 RB1 guitar.

sgaldis - Yeah, a private group! That's the ticket! ;)
which PS3 games do i get?
I believe I already said: Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank. Those are some great 1st party games. Metal Gears Solid 4 is supposed to be great also....although, I have yet to get it.

The PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour usb dongle takes up 1 port but has two usb ports on it. So you believe GH instruments work on RB1. Will Rockband instruments work on GH, like the guitar, mic, and drums on World Tour, anyone know?

saw Prince Caspian for $10 for PS3, saw thatthey had about 10 of them behind their cases when I bought one of the games, is it that bad?

Impressive haul. Only ones I wouldn't like myself so much are ballers and wwe, but I know little about them. Only one I've played yet is Eternal Sonata, fun, I'm not that far into it. I like the story so far. Combat is pretty unique too.

Wow.... just wow. I've heard R&C described as many things... but never as kiddie Did you ever play Up Your Arsenal? If anything I would say mario looks more "kiddie" than R&C. Don't get me wrong, I like Mario Galaxy better... but yeah.... You did end up with a good haul :)

just only able to score R&C for 19.99 man! i really wanted uncharted or some other older titles, is there any chance scoring god of war 2 cheap thanks

i'm a fan of M rated material, old school kinda gamer, so not a huge fan of the ratchet and clank series. I never played it or gave it a chance, but its not my type of game. not much of a fan of mario, but i got a wii for christmas, and need to get a few games for it, not my kinda system, it collects dust. fan of 360, not so into ps3, plannin to sell the wii.

Reading a lot of you guys' hauls makes me jealous of your superior Blockbusters. I managed to get DMC4 and Assassin's Creed for 360 and HOTD2&3 for Wii, but nothing caught my eye for PS3. If I'd seen R&C I would have picked it up in a heartbeat. Really wanted Oblivion GOTY for either system, but the five (!) stores I went to didn't have it.

I feel the same way. I know ratchet is quality game but it just seems kiddy to me as well. I only find games like that approachable to me if I had played earlier ones when I was young, like Super Mario.

Well, it's definitely a well-made platform game, (Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal were both good as well).

If you havent tried it, No More Heroes for the Wii is an interesting Wii game to dust your system off for.

Still looking for Uncharted and Folklore though.
Schnapppz, HotD2&3 is $14.99? I didn't bother asking the worker to ring it up.. Better go get it tonight! Thanks.

Anyone guess the odds that Rock Revolution will drop in TIV this week? Since tuesdays are not necessarily the drop days any longer, I wouldnt want to have many Rock Revolutions in my possession.
Well, it's definitely a well-made platform game, (Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal were both good as well).

If you havent tried it, No More Heroes for the Wii is an interesting Wii game to dust your system off for.
I second No More Heroes. It's going to take me 3 years to beat though since I definitely can't play it with my kids around
Boy...when are they going to drop their used prices? I price checked a used copy of Uncharted and it was still 29.99!
Did you check with the employees? They might have new copy behind the counter :)
can anyone confirm that LBP is 15 bucks? someone told me they got it for 15 bucks.

Well, it's (R&C:ToD) definitely a well-made platform game, (Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal were both good as well).
Until I purchased a PS3 at the end of 2007, I had only owned Nintendo systems (owned all but Super Nintendo). I have been into most of the Platformers from Nintendo (Super Mario, Paper Mario, Zelda, Metroid, ...).

When I got my PS3, I got a free game with it and I chose R&C:ToD. I loved it. I played through it twice, as you get to keep all the upgrades the 2nd time around AND you get to upgrade beyond the max from the first time through. There are also hidden goodies, etc.

I recently purchased the R&C:QFB PSN followup game to ToD, and it was fun, but not nearly as good or as replayable as ToD.

Since the winter holidays, I have been purchasing all the PS2 Ratchet games (except Size Matters, as reviews for it were not very good), and hope to play them soon.

For $20, R&C:ToD is well worth it.
Wow.... just wow. I've heard R&C described as many things... but never as kiddie Did you ever play Up Your Arsenal? If anything I would say mario looks more "kiddie" than R&C. Don't get me wrong, I like Mario Galaxy better... but yeah.... You did end up with a good haul :)
As a devoted R&C fan, I'm surprised to see someone defend it by saying it's not kiddie. To me, that's like trying to say Pixar films aren't kiddie. Clearly, they are--they just carry a universal appeal as well. R&C is definitely meant to be accessible to kids, thus the small, furry mascot and a cute robot for a sidekick.

What makes it fun for us adult gamers is the wide range of badass weapons that rank among the most creative and satisfying (and sometimes laugh-out-loud) I've ever seen in video games.

I didn't see a Blockbuster trade thread so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place but if anyone can find the following I'd be more than willing to pay for them as well as gas, shipping, etc.

Uncharted
GRID (360)

I have GRID on PS3, but would prefer the 360 version.

Why prefer 360 version? Just curious, as I don't know of the differences.

Honestly, I'm a complete d-bag but I'm an achievement whore basically and play all multi-platform games on the 360.

I just did a search for him and couldn't find anything other than being directed to dozens of threads... so I checked the OP again and it says $49.99. What would be good search terms, I tried "LBP for $15", "LBP blockbuster", etc

I hope they don't drop the TIV of that. I've flipped a bunch of RRs from GS this past weekend to pay for my BBV hauls. Sadly though, in a span of 2 days, RR started disappearing from my local GSs...
I'm trying to find Folklore for 9.99.
Me too! If anyone can grab a copy I'd be happy to trade or pay you for it!

Okay then. As long as their both relatively equal I'll probably get the ps3 if I ever buy it. I'm a sucker for free online. Hope it stays free!
is SOCOM worth getting just for the headset? I know the headset is 50 bucks alone, but should I just get a cheaper 3rd party headset?
I think so. But that's going to be up to you of course. I like that the SOCOM headset has a little extra with PS3 like on screen battery monitor (like the controllers have).
