Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I picked up SSBB for Wii during my morning break, but I'm going to be heading out during my lunch break to see if I can find a couple of other games.
"gutted copy"?
This is BBV we're talking about here, right?
By gutted he must mean "used" since $14.99 is the used price. In this case, then, gutted is a good thing - in other words, if it looked like a new gutted game from GS then that was a good deal for a used game...

The GR I went to today had all the new games gutted also.

Picked up:
Mario Super Sluggers - 20
Wario Land - 20
Mario Strikers - 15
Mario Galaxy - 25

Just doubled my Wii collection and will probably go back for more.

lol..
Sad how it doubled your Wii collection by adding 3 marios and a wario lol.

Anyway.. Ive been watching this since it started and I think today I will take my trip.
There are 4 blockbusters within 2 miles of me in west palm beach florida. Not sure if anyone else here is from around me but Ill post back when I get back. There apparently arent to many other "gamers" near by since they all seem to be fully packed constantly of new games.
I soooo want that guitar hero 3 for $4.99. I would then own it on ps2, PC and 360 lol

Picked up Wario Land for 20 bucks.

DIRT IS 4.99. My store didn't have it but the manager said that if they did it would be 4.99

Super Smash-Wii-USED-29.99

Picked up a PS3 DMC4 CE but part of the wrap was messed up. I guess you can't complain too much for 15 bux. Saw a bunch of Uncharted though.
Did the value of rock revolution drop? Going to head out and check on my way to the gym, but thought I would double check first.
PS3 version is still good for $19 in trade credit.
Can anyone else confirm the used copy of The World Ends With You for 6.99? That's stellar, but I thought none of the used stuff dropped.
I'm pretty sure it was marked wrong. They had to override the sale. It was complete though.
Can anyone else confirm the used copy of The World Ends With You for 6.99? That's stellar, but I thought none of the used stuff dropped.
Saw two used copies today (seriously, I've seen so many used and new TWEWY, yet can't find a darn Advance Wars or FFXII Revenant Wings) and they were marked $19.99. Had one scanned to be sure, and either the price is indeed $19.99 used or the guy was lying to me.

Yeah, I went to pick up a Mercs 2 that had the DISPLAY ONLY case. And the guy tried to sell me that WITHOUT A MANUAL and the DISPLAY ONLY case. I would rather have USED for the smae price as Mercs 2 is $14.99 used also. Thus, I got nothing. I know some stores have complete copies, but not sure what I really want.

still, can anyone compile a list of games taking part in this NEW game price drop... I ravage these boards looking for everything, but its tough since the board moves so fast and I am so busy during the week with other stuff...and, the nearest blockbuster is so far from me that I can't just go and scour to see if these are true and what games are on the list.
No new USED drops...one emlployee said they wouldn't as this was just a temporary sale. She said it was going to be a pain removing all the clearance stickers.
So is the sale over today?

TWEWY was used at two local BBVs, $20 at both. No new copies at any of the three I checked in the Fullerton, CA area.

There was a copy of :wii: Boom Blox at the BBV by State College and La Palma for $19.99. I want it, but not at that price point.
So is the sale over today?
No, she didn't tell me when...she was just referencing when the sale IS over, it will suck for them.

Damn all the stores in my area are franchises, meaning no sale on PS3/X360 games. Was really looking forward to pick up Uncharted and some DS games.

I picked up Mario Strikers Charged for $15. I saw Excite Truck for $10, which sucks because my wife bought it for me used from Gamestop for $22 + tax. I also bought Boom Blox earlier last week for $28 only to find that it has now dropped to $20. I checked 4 BBVs today, and I couldn't find a copy of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. If anyone finds this game and doesn't mind shipping it to me, then please PM me. I can pay for the game + shipping via PayPal.

I haven't set foot in a Blockbuster in years, so please excuse me for asking these questions. Do most Blockbusters gut their new games? Also, how do you know which stores are franchises and which are corporate owned?

How did you get a discount? Are you employee or something.
I haven't set foot in a Blockbuster in years, so please excuse me for asking these questions. Do most Blockbusters gut their new games? Also, how do you know which stores are franchises and which are corporate owned?
Usually not on the gutting, at least from my experience. They put out a display copy (even says Display only on it) and they keep sealed copies behind the counter.

And the easiest way to know if a store is corporate or franchise is to look at a receipt. Usually says "Franchisee" at the top if it's a franchise store.
PS3 version is still good for $19 in trade credit.
Confirmed in Norco, CA Blockbusters too. Traded 1 this morning for $19.

I snagged Grid for PS3 for $20 new on the clearance sale rack. Some other good games for decent prices but my backlog is too long.
I've seen Uncharted at numerous stores....and Saints Row 2 at one store. I could pick those up, but not sure what others want. If someone REALLY did get Little Big Planet for $15, I would trade for that.
Where are you located? :D

Was Uncharted really only $20 as reported by some in the thread?

Uncharted (new) is indeed $20 + tax.

I can't seem to find these collector's editions everyone claims to find. Do they display them in the front with the rest of the games?

was able to pick up
PS3: Bioshock and 2x Ratchet and Clank
X360 Spiderman WOS and Star Wars Force unleashed.
2x Wario Land Shake It on the wii.

All the PS3 games and one Wario are for trade. going to browes the trade area later and form my own trade thread as well.

Struck out on finding some of the DS games I wanted, but I did manage to find a GTA IV SE for Xbox 360.

If anyone is interested in just the sealed game, and have or can get some of the DS games, send me a PM. :)

First Blockbuster I went in had a ton of the games mentioned. Picked up the last Lost planet for 9.99 new.

Saw (remembered):
:360: Devil may Cry 4 - 14.99
Unreal Tournament 3 - 14.99
Lego Indiana - 19.99
Lego Batman - 19.99 (got for 29.99 black friday)
:wii: wario shake it - 19.99
Mario soccer - 19.99?

Again, there where alot of others including PS3 games on Tilgman St. Allentown, PA.

** Also picked up from a bin labled "9.99 games" and got Earth Defense Force (great 2 player drunken fun). There was a guy talking about getting games for 9.99 earlier in the thread and I saw alot of the games he mentioned in there. Not sure if this is YMMV. (Disc only)

Went to a bunch of BB around Orlando area looking for ridge racer 7 but had no luck.

Anyone have an extra or can grab and extra one? I'll pay a few dollars more for it plus the cost of the game and shipping. Let me know, thanks!

2 I didn't see mentioned in the new game sale. I doubt you guys will find these gems though.

Wii - Cooking Mama Cook Off - $9.99
DS - Kirby's Canvas Curse - $14.99
I haven't set foot in a Blockbuster in years, so please excuse me for asking these questions. Do most Blockbusters gut their new games? Also, how do you know which stores are franchises and which are corporate owned?
I have never seen nor heard of any Blockbuster gutting new games except one single case: there is a post a page or two back where someone said their Gamerush store did gut all the new games and I'll take his word for it. But that is unusual. Some others reported early on that the games were gutted or even in generic cases but those are just the display copies - when you bring them up they'll get a nice minty sealed one out of a drawer or from the back for you.
is MGS4 USED more expensive than the new copy right now?
That is going to be pretty much true of all of these games now. They have never dropped the used prices to match the clearance prices since they aren't regular MSRP drops. And with this latest price cut that means most of the used prices will be considerably higher than the new. What sucks about all of this if they follow previous behavior they have carefully dropped all the trade-in prirces on these games. That's well and good to prevent people from flipping the new copies back in for credit. However, it sucks in that they don't lower the used prices to match. For example, I checked on Rock band 1 for PS3 and it only gets $2.50 now! That of course is because they sell it new for just $9.99. However, used copies are $19.99 or $24.99 or something (not sure exactly). So the spread on trade-in to used sales price is worse than even at GS! ;)

I bought a PS3 Rock Band bundle the other day and was thinking of just snagging RB2 for $29.99. I figured I could trade the game back in (after transferring the songs) to lessen that a bit but at just $2.50 I'm not going to bother. Seriously, I thought it would get at least $6 or so. But also I need to keep in mind they nerfed just about all their trade-in prices in Feb independently of the clearance sale.

FWIW, I was able to return a game today no problem. I bought a Wario Land Shake It just out of amazement that it was so cheap. I had already bought a used copy for $45 or so from GS a while back (and haven't played it :bomb:). It just seemed like such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I figured it would make a good gift or if worse came to worse I could sell it later. But then I realized I was down to $26 in BBV credit and I might want to buy some other things I don't have yet so I just returned it. They put the money on my account and then reloaded my Value Card.

Last time I was in my local store was right after they tagged everything for the sale on Friday. It seemed like not a single thing had been sold between then and now. They are still loaded with Mario Super Sluggers, FF:CC Ring of Fates, and tons of other stuff I assumed would get snapped up by the BBV movie-renting civilians. I mean, I see these same people renting games for $7.99 or whatever yet they pass up brand new games they can buy and keep for $10 or $15, amazing...

Oh, and I'm not sure if this was reported yet but is seems Animal Crossing for the Wii is just $39.99 now - not bad given how slow that one will be to drop from $50 in general.
With that kind of TIV, you're definitely better off keeping RB1 so you can still have "Enter Sandman," "Paranoid," and "Run to the Hills," in case you ever get the urge to play them (and I do).

For my 8th trip (across 5 stores), I picked up:

:ps3: COD4: Modern Warfare (non-GOTY) $24.99

Calls to 2 additional stores still came up short of finding Uncharted or Folklore.
is MGS4 USED more expensive than the new copy right now?
Ok, now I'm convinced -

WiiShopChannels = Iheartgames

On a constructive note -
How about an official BBuster game trading thread?
Went to a bunch of BB around Orlando area looking for ridge racer 7 but had no luck.

Anyone have an extra or can grab and extra one? I'll pay a few dollars more for it plus the cost of the game and shipping. Let me know, thanks!
I found a used copy of it at a BBV. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks guys. I picked up SCIV Collectors Edition PS3 for $30. The gal was surprised the CEs dropped as well as they didn't tag them. Saw some Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, and MGS4. No GTAIV SEs though.
