Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Any more Folklore sightings in So Cal? :\

Edit: Oops...by So Cal I really meant around Los Angeles. Thanks for those who Pmed me though. :D
The closest I came was a Gamerush location saying they had a copy the day the sale started, but it was gone within 1 hour. :bomb:
Man, I totally got cocky. I traded in 2 copies of Rock Revolution, one PS3 and one 360, spread over two days, and the manager called me out on it. My account has been flagged apparently. Anyway, I was still able to get Cranium Kabuki for $10, and then flipped it at another BBV for $16. Tomorrow's my last day of BBV game hunting. I'm not going to risk any more trades of Rock Revolution.

And yes, the TIV for that is still $19 as of today.
I hope BBV goes bankrupt. Seriously.

Also, I just remembered that I saw those cool joker bobbleheads at BBV marked down to 7.99 from 14.99. Sry if it's already been meantioned.

Why? so another store with potential deals bites the dust?

Picked up:

Wario Land
Mario Sluggers
Samba
Professor Layton
Okami
Mario Strikers

Only one I couldn't fine was Boom Blox so I'll try a 3rd store next week.

Thanks for the heads up CAG.
hey Ryne did they have any PS3 games & if they did what were they?

I stopped by on my way home and these were what I saw for PS3 titles:

Fallout 3
Lego Indiana Jones

Midnight Club LA Remix
Tiger Woods 09
Rock Band 2
Guitar Hero World Tour
Ratchet & Clank TOD
Iron Man
007 Quantom of Solace

Just a few minutes ago a ran across a Bioshock PS3 and Assassins Creed 360 if anyone is interested in Southern Los Angeles area. Just PM me for specific store.

Yeah, I've been on a nice scavenger hunt for Boom Blox. 2 GameRush stores and 4 regular BBVs over the past 2 weeks have yielded nada.

Seems like, in my area at least, Prof Layton was decently accessible back near Charlotte, but seems like Wario Land is a fairly common one. Seen at least two copies at each store I've gone to.
Found

2 LoZ: PH $10
1 WarioWare Shake It $20
1 PS3 FarCry 2 $20
1 PS3 Assassin's Creed $10
1 Sonic Chronicles $15
1 Rachet & Clank FToD $20

Also bought a used Advance Wars Day of Ruin for $15

I also saw multiple PS3 GTAIV SE, PS3 Rachet & Clank, WarioWare Shake It, FarCry 2 (Both), PS3 BioShock, Lost Odyssey, CoD5 ($40), and Banjo-Kazooie marked at $15 (priced wrong?).

Was very surprised at all the titles still available. BBV is a treasure trove compared to the terrible sales Target, Walmart, and Best Buy have been offering lately.
Unless you don't really care, see if you can return Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. It's currently 9.99 @ TRU. Also there was a "Buy 1 DS game, get $5 of a second DS game" sale when I went yesterday.

Just so you all know, Sega Superstar Tennis, or w/e...Has a $5 TIV at Gamestop. It's not listed still, but it's one of the few Wii games that apply towards the +$25 GS flip.

Do not know if this has been posted, but my district manager JUST told me this.

The game sale will END THIS WEEKEND. Whats super crazy: All remaining games from this sale will be shipped to the distribution center...

I may not believe him on the ship to DC, but if anyone would know when the game sale is ending it would be him.

Well, I went to a BBV I had visited last Saturday and with the exception of the GH bundles I don't think they sold a single thing all week. They still had lots of stuff including Professor Layton, the Brain Age games (which I haven't seen at any other store) and one my son wanted - SpongeBob Atlantis SquarePantis for the DS. Of course they had lots of Wii, PS3, and 360 stuff too. I did the Singstar Abba trade and it was a good thing because after this store and one other I ended the day with a whopping $2.80 left in BBV credit - an all time low since I first started trading there in Jan 2005! I saw Boom Blox at the second store along with another wide assortment of stuff. If I was still swimming in credit I would have gotten Boom Blox but I'll just wait for the sequel and rent that (as I did with the first).

I don't know about the sale ending this weekend - that seems odd. After all, and I keep saying this over and over, this isn't a special sale that just started on the 9th or 10th of April. That was simply when the prices dropped further from the last clearance prices (and many other games started to go on clearance). It seems unlikely such a thing would "end". I could see the promotion of it ending this weekend though. It does seem like most stores were instructed to present them in a certain way (bins near the cash registers with xeroxed "as low as $9.99" signs"). That PROMO could be ending with the prices remaining. If these are going back to a distribition center that means they are stopping their new game sales entirely since most of their stock is on some level of clearance or another.

I was getting worried because they didn't seem to be promoting any new games - all the preorder stuff I saw was for stuff already out (ie, they hadn't updated the signage). That was, until tonight! At the second store I went to they had a stack of sheets near the entrance promoting preorders for The Beatles Rock Band, as well as several other games including X-Men Origins Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, Red Faction Guerilla, NCAA 10 and Madden 10. If they are promoting this many preorder opportunities it seems like business as usual (they will get a small selection of newer games in for sale as they have been doing for about a year now).

There is also this blurb at the bottom: "Trade & Save", so they are pushing the trade-in program as well.

i guess cags need to hustle this weekend if they haven't found what they've wanted yet. I hope its not ending. There's no way they gave this sale enough time if they actually want to move merchandise.

I've been searching for Professor Layton all week without any luck. Went to seven different Chicagoland stores and saw very few DS games at any of them.

Anyone living in the area happen to see it at a store I didn't get to? Or any other notable DS games?

does anyone know if they could find me a ps3 heavenly sword and folklore from the sale.

i can trade a new sealed uncharted with extra $$, or just simply paypal cash.

these are the only games i need yet from the sale, so i would really appreciate it :p

For those looking for Folklore, I saw it on clearance at Sears for 14.97. It is 5 bucks more but they had a whole bunch. Happy Hunting.

I picked up:
Sid meiers civilization for ps3&360
Nba 2k8,Assasins Creed, and Uncharted all for ps3
Boom Blox and DeBlob for WII

I found all of these in Santa Clarita,CA

An employee at a BBV told my wife that they will only pre-order new games from now on. They will not stock new games for general sales.

Honestly, BBV has to make it seem like Business as Usual for promoting new games. They cannot give consumers the fear that they are going away, or it would happen that much faster. Now, if you pre-order a game that comes out in July/August, but they go under...I'm curious what happens to your money.

Good question, who knows lunches for the liquidation crews or to pay legal fees ha ha

Sale ending soon?

I guess its time to go get that Saints Row 2!

Thanks for sharing the finds with everyone here. I definitely appreciate anything I get from CAGers!

I for one will need confirmation from a few more people before believing the sale will end this weekend. Either way, I got everything I wanted from the stores in my area, but may head back for Boom Blox if its not gone yet.

I was just in BBV this morning and the lad told me that this is the last weekend. Corp wants them to send back games on Monday.

Whether or not that is true, I can't say but it is consistent with what some others are saying.

a couple posters in this thread actually work for BBV. They haven't said anything yet

Wanted

Open for trades for XBOX 360 and PS3 Games.

Damn, and I still haven't found the games I wanted. :(

If anyone has seen The World Ends With You and/or Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings in or around Orange County, CA, I'd greatly appreciate the tip.

Same here guys. On-the-ball Manager told me earlier today to get what I wanted because they had to ship the games out in "the next few days." I asked if tomorrow will be the last day. She told me probably, but it would only go to another day or two at the most after that.

Are they saying that only the new games are being sent back? Did anyone ask about the used games?

Maybe this is only happening in smaller markets. In socal 2 managers didn't mention anything. They told me it will last until games are sold.

Quick stop at a BB I was passing scored me a new copy of Saints Row 2 (PS3) mis-tagged for $19.99... Cashier looked confused but the manager came over and adjusted it no problems.. :D

I decided to check a smaller store where no one usually goes. Now I know why people head to the other one.
My find:
PS3
Dead Space- $46
Fallout 3- $50
note that these are the clearance stickers
The bins were full of Turok, Viking, and Condemned 2

I was hoping to go today to pick up one or two games for the Wii. Right now its raining hard in Houston, so I may have to wait till tomorrow. My girl likes platformers on the Wii, so I'm thinking of picking up Wario Land: Shake It! at least.

You should have had them scanned

Wow some rain keeps you from going out ha ha up here we drive through 10" of snow like its nothing ;)

I know that the trade in value for Rock Revolution(PS3) is still holding at a laughable $19. Traded in a couple of Phantasy Star Universe copies from KMart($3) for apparently the only used copy of Rock Revolution in my area. Nabbed Lego Batman(360) for $19.99 from Blockbuster with it. A little under $10 out of pocket for Lego Batman was decent. Missed it at Target a few months back.

I had an email from corporate about the sale ending sometime this week. No date was given. All new games are being sent back to distribution because they sold the stock to a liquidator.
Honestly, BBV has to make it seem like Business as Usual for promoting new games. They cannot give consumers the fear that they are going away, or it would happen that much faster. Well, add that to the long list of reasons why I would't preorder games there now. Let's see, there's the fact that they didn't get my last 3 or 4 preorders at all (or weeks late). Even when they do get things, they get them on Friday instead of Tues/Weds (and that won't cut it for Beatles Rock Band ;)). Oh yeah, then they nerfed their trade-in program giving no incentive to put up with the delays/failures to deliver because at least you got them cheap... Now, they may go under and you'll lose out on the deposit. Yeah, no thanks... But I wonder, what happens now if they aren't going to carry new games any more and you cancel a preorder? In the past that has meant they got the game in anyway (even if you cancelled months ahead of time).

Hmmm... Sold to a liquidator, eh? That seems incredibly stupid. They are going to pay a ton to ship all these games somewhere and get a fraction of their value. You'd think they'd be better off running with the clearance as is for another month or two and then dropping prices again. I don't get it, unless they got an awesome deal with the liquidator. Seems like another bonehead BBV move to me.

So, wow, do I make another push to find some stuff or just forget about it? It seems I picked the perfect time to get myself down to $2.80 in credit. I suppose they'll still have used games and possibly another B1G1 but it sucks they are bailing on the new game business. Still, is it all new games? They didn't have everything on clearance (eg, NSMB). So are they shipping those off too or just all the clearance stuff (which would leave them with a handful, literally, of new games.

Also, what are they going to do with returns? I suggest everyone buy several things they don't want and then return them after they ship everything off. Why? Just 'cause... (Seriously, though, I may be returning a few things like Bioshock that I'm not sure I need - was going to buy other new games with the return money but that may not be possible).

Checked out a few Blockbuster's in the San Antonio area today and most of the deals I saw are already listed in the OP. One of the BBV I went to had Ninja Gaiden for DS marked at $14.99. I also saw a used copy of Smackdown vs Raw 2009 for $14.99. I should have picked it up on principle since I just bought this a few weeks ago for twice that, but I didn't see the point (except for maybe trade-in credit). I'll probably do a full scour of the area tomorrow and report on some deals.

As for those that are finding games at a different price, I would definietly have them scanned or search a different BBV. I saw a copy of Super Mario Sluggers at one store for $34.99 and at another for $19.99. From what I've seen though, the ones on sale have little stickers on them that say, "NOW $XX.XX." Some deals seem to be on used games and other on new games.

With some difficulty, I was able to chase down a copy of Far Cry 2 and Dark Space for PS3 at Richardson, Texas BBVs today.
