Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I did a final run of BBV stores, this time through the Greenville, SC area, today after work. I found four more I was looking for, so I'm all done now.

This time I had one manager just flat out tell me as he was checking me out that the sale ends this weekend, and after that they're sending the new games back to someone and they will very, very rarely stock any brand new games in the future after this. I didn't ask any question, he just told me all of this.

Also, at just about every BBV store they now have signs up saying that this is the last weekend, and to buy not before they're gone forever.

I showed up late to the party for this clearance. I checked a few stores in the Phoenix area and didn't see too much to get excited about. If I had some built up credit @ BBV I might have been more excited about it, but I couldn't find more than 1 Rock Revolution at a GS to flip to BBV for the credit, so I took that and got a month of movies/games instead.

If I would have had $100 in BBV credit like the old days, I would have cleaned up on the deal as there were a lot of Wii games that could be used for the $25 bonus deal @ GS right now. If there was more than one profitable flip to BBV it would have made it worth the effort.

After going to BBV almost daily a couple of months ago I have been a total of 3 times in the past 3 months now. I completely expect them to lose out in this economy, because they don't have a particularly competitive product in terms of games or movies. Maybe I am just getting good deals everywhere else and I am jaded by the "average" BBV business model.

I was asking every manager and every assistant manager I could find on my treks to pretty much ALL of my local BBV stores over the past week or so and I heard nothing from any of them about when this sale was going to end and what they were going to do with the leftover stock.

Unless this edict to ship back stuff just came down today, I'd hold off on worrying about it ending. But just to be on the safe side, I would grab anything you've been holding off on grabbing in the next couple of days.

I guess that means I'm going back to the one local BBV to grab a second copy of MGS 4 to actually play, since my only copy is going out in a trade already.

I have one or two more BBV stores to make it to before the end of the day tomorrow and then I'm done(and just about broke lol).

I'm still looking for SW: Force Unleashed for PS3 and another copy of MGS4. Other than that though, I'm done.

Wish I would've tracked down a Rock Revolution at GS to flip, but went ahead & picked up Lego Batman & Mercs 2 (both 360). Mercs was for a friend, but Lego Bat looks fun and is actually a pretty good flip to GS.

Also, I heard the manager telling someone else that the sale was over on Mon, so I asked. And yes, another confirmation that they will be sending the games off. I am really hoping for a B1G1 soon cuz my stores have a ton of stuff I'd buy.

My store had a crapload of Guitar Hero Aerosmiths, MGS4, and that was about it.. No saints row.. etc.

The sign said LAST DAY! So take that for what its worth..

so is anyone in favor of selling of there uncharted to me some how, i keep hearing this is the last weekend for everything!!, i really want to get a hold of it thanks

I hope that was only for your specific store, since I know I still want 1-2 games from my local BBV stores, but most of them are closed now.
I had an email from corporate about the sale ending sometime this week. No date was given. All new games are being sent back to distribution because they sold the stock to a liquidator.
They're obviously shipping them to Best Buy.;)

I scoped out one of my regular stores. I picked up :ps3: GTA IV Special Edition for 29.99 that I would like to trade to a local Orange County CAG. Heading out tomorrow for BF:BC and Dead Space since Heavenly Sword is just not available in the area.

lol, nice call neitzche.

But the manager I talked to said select stores around the country were going to be getting these games and doing something special ... not sure what that means or if she knew what she was talking about, but that's what she said.

Not even at Sears? It's $20 there too. Check the BBV trade thread, as I think I've seen multiple copies of HS for trade on there.

Free game with every $9 game rental? I honestly don't get how the hell BBV stayed in business as long as they have with the formerly gouged prices for rentals, but the game rentals have always been up there. For $9, I could buy almost two Kmart clearance titles.

I hope my local BBV still has clearance games tommorrow. I wasn't going to spend any more, but now regret not picking up Super Mario Sluggers and De Blob, at least.

I hear you. That's why I ran out and picked up Sluggers last night. Couldn't stand to miss that price. My son has wanted it forever.

Definitely grab De Blob!

Guys...are USED games staying or going?

We can still get a 1:1 trade in to Gamestop with the Wii promotion. Plenty of used wii games at BBV will work with that.

Checked my last batch of BBV's for TWEWY and no luck. Oh well, maybe someone else will lower it to $15 eventually.

I saw :wii: 1x Boom Blox at the store on Chapman Ave. in Orange, CA about a mile east of the 55 if anyone cares.

You have to look at it from a non-CAG point of view. Most people think games are $60+tax and don't know about these deals like we do so to them $8.99+tax is a better deal than buying a $60 game. I would never do it, but you'll be surprised at how many people rent games. The majority of them being kids under 15 and people over the age of 28.

I was just there at the same location. Picked up the GTA IV SE for ps3, saw Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for ps3. I think I will return the GTA since I already have it. They had a bunch of display copies of games they do not have in stock... lazy bums.

This. I have a buddy who constantly rents games. And I'd tell him over and over to at least get Gamefly or the BBV game pass. Instead of 2 rentals, you have unlimited games for a month. OR if there's only 1 or 2 games you want, you can keep those the whole month. Renting games is something I wouldn't do for $5 a pop, and definately not for $9.

edit: Oh and that dude finally got GF and he loves it. I was like, 'too bad you wasted like 4 months worth of fees on rentals.'
Wow some rain keeps you from going out ha ha up here we drive through 10" of snow like its nothing ;)
haha....well for what its worth it was flooding in some places here. I guess I could have put my swim trunks and do my Mark Spitz imitation. I ended up going to the BBV but Wario Land: Shake It! was gone and the PS3 section looked to have been raped. Luckily I found a Shake It! at another BBV besides that, they had nothing.
Wow some rain keeps you from going out ha ha up here we drive through 10" of snow like its nothing ;)
lol, yes things are different down here. A couple of years ago there was some ice on the roads for a few days (hasn't been snow in over 20 yrs) and everything was closed. It was awesome. No one had school or work or anything. It was right after I got my 360 so I played Gears 1 online with friends like 8 hrs a day. lol. So see, not being able to deal with weather has advantages too. :p

Have you seen any Ghost Squad or Folklore at any of the locations in the OC? Every store I went to didn't have it out on display, so I doubt it. But I had to ask if they had Bioshock at one of the stores to get it. Would appreciate the heads up if you know what's up. Thanks in advance.

Well then, those people can keep going to Gamestop and getting butt raped on trade values and paying retail for everything. I'm just glad I did a search for 'cheap games' 4 years ago and it brought up CAG as one of the first search results.

Of course, without the idiots paying full MSRP for everything, most of the chains we currently use for clearances would've been belly up a long time ago probably. Someone has to keep the companies making their full profits, but it's NOT gonna be me.

knew I shouldn't have waited so long to make it to blockbuster....oh yeah, I was broke.

scored ratchet and clank (ps3) for $20...still another handful of titles I would like to get. Have to check the store locater (man I can't spell) see what's around me.
cupcakex1, nope havent seen either of those. If I see them tomorrow I can pick them up for you and we can meet up for exchange.
Coooo cooo... good looks mang. You looking for anything? Maybe I can help you out too.
We will see tomorrow if the sale really ended today.
 I hope it didn't, as I have one final round to all of my local BBV stores that I DIDN'T HIT YET(Honesdale and Mt. Pocono) to do. Plus, I may be headed out to NJ today and I'll raid some out of town ones. :D
Coooo cooo... good looks mang. You looking for anything? Maybe I can help you out too.
Pming is a wonderful tool.
Please give it a whirl...
Also, I heard the manager telling someone else that the sale was over on Mon, so I asked. And yes, another confirmation that they will be sending the games off.
Just for people who don't read the whole thread.

Give people a break this thread is huge and to be honest there has been no solid confirmation on an end date, some people are saying it was today others tomorrow and still some others saying until its gone.

I trust Blockbuster employee "Steve" as much as I trust the walmart greeter rejects that work for Radioshack.

So wait until tomorrow that should shed some light on all the hoopla

although it sounds perfectly logical for BBV to sell thier games for some quick cash, even that is REALLY stupid for blockbuster...it would be a better idea if they even relocated those games to stores that sell more games then giving up on games entirely. I mean, our district manager did not know where the games were going, and he talked to the dude who runs the southwest side of the U.S.

also...nine dollar rentals rent A LOT. I smack my head everytime, but its the truth.

Wasn't much to be found on the new side (though the Blockbusters here apparently have first started the sale), but did score a number of used 360 games on the cheap at one. Mercenaries 2 for $7, Far Cry 2 for $15, and Street Fighter IV for $30 (I had been teetering on buying the former at launch and ultimately decided I'd snag it once I saw it priced as above). They also had a couple other big, pretty recently released 360 titles used for half or less of MSRP (such as a pair of copies of Halo Wars for $30).

On the matter of shipping games elsewhere, while I have no indication whether it's true or not, I was told by one GR employee awhile ago that they'll sometimes send excess stock out here (Hawaii), since the competition's lighter (Only Gamestops and one or two local stores, no Hollywood Videos or other game specialty or used chains here)

Heh, an inquiring mind asked me how much I had spent at the Blockbuster sale since last saturday. I totalled it all up and it came out to $1,291.46.

So, anyone else spend a lot?

Hope you didn't hoard every single copy of Uncharted.
I haven't been able to fine one in my area.

I really wish that Blockbuster had an actual flyer that went with this sale and that it didn't mention 'clearance' anywhere on it. If they had, I would've tried the other kind of PMing you weren't suggesting: PRICE MATCHING.

That certainly would've made things a HELL of a lot easier, but then it would've taken all of the fun out of the 'hunting' part of deal hunting.

Of course he hoarded. ~ $1300 spent / avg. $25 game = 52 games purchased.

LOL I was referring to Private Messaging, my bad...
Another newbie that uses this as his private forum for requests...
