Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Picked up a new Spiderman and the rest were 'prepack' games. Very nice flip.

First is BBV purchase price followed by GS Base TIV.

:wii:
Sonic Riders $6.99 -> $8
Ninja Reflex $6.99 -> $4
Table Tennis $6.99 -> $7
Spiderman: Friend or Foe $10 -> $10
Did you get the $25 bonus? I thought $4 games didn't qualify. Is it $4 and up?

It appears that most of Brooklyn was taken of anything good. I remember a few of my local stores had the GTA SE which are now gone as well as the Fallout 3 CE. Both I was looking to pick up. oh well.

I traded Rock Revolution in on Sunday for $19, so I think it should have held but you might want to confirm. Kind of hoping to get a bunch of those from Best Buy next Sunday :)
Anyone traded in Rock Revolution this week?

is it still hold at $19?????
i need some BBV credit.
yesterday It still hold strong @19 for 360 version.

The blockbuster I went said that they will send back all the new games by the end of this week. Then they will only carry used games.

Thanks
Question, can i buy xbox live 3months or 12months card with value card credit????

So once BB ships back their inventory from the clearance, will they still get new releases to sell? Or are they shipping back all new games they have in stock and not just the clearance ones?

Stores that are telling u that games will be sent back this week are just assuming this and have nothing to base it on since we got a communication this morning that a return date is yet to be finalized.

Once we send back the games Looks like Bbv will only be selling new retail games that people pre-order. That doesn't make much sense since we all know how Bbv preorders go. But we got a list today that has a bunch of games that we can preorder.
So once BB ships back their inventory from the clearance, will they still get new releases to sell? Or are they shipping back all new games they have in stock and not just the clearance ones?
Some managers have said BBV will not carry any new games unless someone preorders them... this is a last ditch effort to clean out their stock.

Talk about a complete u-turn in BBV's direction. Weren't they trying to transform into a more retail-oriented store with more new products (electronics, games, etc.)?

Oh well, now that their trade-in values suck, guess it won't be that big of a loss.

I also traded Rock Rev :ps3: Sunday, got a real douche bag who tried to refuse taking it. I was pissed and started complaining, neeedless to say he did the trade.
Japakneez, by 'prepack' do you mean the disc only ones? Just want to make sure I follow you. Thanks.
yes. Look at the white sticker and it will say 'prepack'. 360/wii/ps3 prepacks are all $6.99 now. I also picked up God of War II prepack for $2.99. So it seems like gamecube/ps2/xbox prepack games will be $2.99 now
Did you get the $25 bonus? I thought $4 games didn't qualify. Is it $4 and up?
EDIT: I took a look at my receipt and it looks like they did a manual override to give me the extra $25. So im going to say that you should stay away from $4.00 TIV games. I actually thought ninja reflex was $5...there were other games i could have picked up! I got the 10% edge plus $25 bonus :hot:

There were better games i should have picked up. Some regularly priced $6.99 (used) flips to look for...

Geometry Wars $7
Tony Hawk Downhill Jam $6
Meet the Robinsons $5

Ugh, the news of $6.99 prepack games is really urging me to go for more flipping, but after getting crap from the manager, I feel like it's not worth it. I've already traded in a bunch of Rock Revolutions at multiple stores, and I don't feel like getting my account banned.
they don't ban you at BBV for buying. In fact, they would love for you to buy their old stock
Well, I don't want to use money from my pocket to buy. If I could trade in Rock Revolutions bought using Gamestop credit, why should I bust out my credit card? THen again, I guess that's my problem. Oh well.

I went to 4 different blockbusters this morning looking for Grid. Two of the stores had signs that said last 2 days of the game clearance. Hopefully they are just trying to drum up sales and this isn't the end of the sale.

The GC and Xbox prepack games were always $2.99. I picked up several back on that President's Day weekend timeframe that were $2.99. PS2 may have been $4.99 but I don't think I ever saw any of those.

Yes, the PS2 prepacks were $5.

I saw some that weekend, but nothing worth getting.

:whistle2:(

Hey guys, don't buy ninja reflex. I looked at my GS receipt and they did a manual override for my credit. Best thing to do is to stay away from $4.00 TIV games.

Anyway, got another nice round of 'prepack' flips today. Spent $30 BBV after tax and got $59 GS credit after bonus+edge. Here are 3 new $6.99 prepacks i found...

:wii:
Avatar Burning Earth $6.99 -> $6
Tony Hawk Proving Ground $6.99 -> $8
MX vs. ATV untamed $6.99 -> $10

Picked up Grid for $20. Saw Civ Rev for $20 and almost picked it up, except I already have it for PS3!!! Paid $30 for it, too from Amazon. D'oh!

There were 2 or 3 copies of Grid at the Vernon Hills BBV...

Picked up the last of the POG games in my area for wii, and made an easy 60$ :) flipping to GS, 3 sets of 4, netting 20$ per set. Nice!!

Can anyone get me Fallout 3 collectors edition for 360?Im willing to pay 60 plus shipping.NEW that is.Also looking for Devil May Cry 4 collectors,Halo3,and GTAIV.Must be NEW though

All Xbox and Gamecube pre-packs are down to $1.99, PS2 are $2.99 as reported. Lips for 360 is $39.99 on the clearance. Saw this at a Gamerush store. Also, trade-in value for a PSP is $50.

Is LIPS any good and is it the bundle?

Nvm best buy has it for 50 which makes it not a great deal I can wait. Still want those collectors though!

I saw Guitar Hero World Tour (game + guitar) for PS3 for $30. I passed because I am not into the music games at all but it looked like a great deal. They also had the same deal for the Aerosmith version.
Saratoga Springs NY store - 1 left of each that I saw

Castlevania: PoS

360
Lost Planet: Colonies

There might have been more.

I'm assuming that is a mistag as the GH:Aero and GH III bundles are part of the clearance but not GHWT bundle (or if it is, it's $80 or so). Or it could be mistagged from the game-only GHWT which is $30, I think (or maybe $25).

Edit: from the list in the OP:
Guitar Hero 3 w/guitar $29.99
Guitar Hero Aerosmith w/guitar $29.99
Guitar Hero Aerosmith $14.99
Guitar Hero World Tour $29.99
Guitar Hero World Tour w/guitar $79.99

So, yeah, all sorts of opportunity to mistag there - either from the older bundles or the non-bundle GHWT. I'd try to buy it for that price if I were you. The way these things go for me they'd simply say, sorry, it's really $79.99...

I thought the drum set from GHWT had a problem that needed a PC to fix it with a download? What's the pros and cons of GHWT vs Rock Band?

Well, none of the bundles we are talking about have drums in them anyway (though I think the band bundles are $149.99 which is a slight discount - I paid the full $189.99 at GS for my GHWT).

I have a launch day 360 GHWT bundle set and never had a problem with the drums so I'm not sure what you are referring to. The drums in GHWT are nicer than the RB2 ones, even (and way better than the RB1 drums). But I haven't played either all that much - they are more for my son. And even he doesn't play that much now that he has a real drum set ;).

It had a clearance sticker on it like the other new games on clearance. I really don't want it despite it being a great deal - hopefully another local CAG will scoop it up.

Right, but my point is that it is most likely a mistag unless those just dropped again this weekend. They were being reported as on clearance for $79.99 before. I just don't want half the newbies (and 1/4 of the CAG vets ;)) running out and trying to get it for that cheap only to come back here and complain that it must be YMMV as it didn't ring up that way at their store. Now, if it really has dropped to that price, that's big news and I'd get one myself!

Picked up Tony Hawk: Proving ground (PS3) $5 and Draw to Life (DS) $10. I saw 2 copies GRID... tempting to pick up for $20-ish :( Also, saw the sign clearance games end this weekend !!!!
I thought the drum set from GHWT had a problem that needed a PC to fix it with a download? What's the pros and cons of GHWT vs Rock Band?
The problem you're referring to was a sensitivity issue. My blue drum was somewhat plagued by this, because I had to come damn close to breaking it to get it to register.

It's not really a big deal as you can easily get RedOctane to send you a USB-MIDI cable to connect your drums to your PC, and there's a drum tuning kit you can use to change the sensitivity levels. And actually, because of that, I might give the GH drums an advantage. I guess because I've played the drums for a few years, I like the GH drums too because they come a bit closer to mimicry of a real drum set without having to spend the extra cash on cymbal packs.

Picked up a few clearance Xbox 360 games with the last of my credit, including a couple I don't see on the master list:

Army of Two $14.99
Devil May Cry 4 CE $14.99
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men $14.99
Prey $4.99
Quake 4 $4.99
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed $24.99

I bought
iconps2_r2.gif
SingStar Country bundle from Sears for $4.97. In the parking lot, I unwrapped everything. Then I went back into the mall and traded the game in at GameStop for $9.25 and the mics for $3.50. And I bought
iconps3.gif
Rock Revolution for $12.99 used. Next, I traded Rock Revolution in at Blockbuster for $19.00 and bought
iconwii.gif
Boom Blox for $19.99.

Whew! It's a lot of work being a CAG, but it's fun!

My wife and I played the Boom Blox for a while last night. It's a lot of fun. She beat me pretty bad. I would almost knock over a big section for points, and then it would be her turn and she would steal them all from me!
