Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Some of you people have insane amounts of games. I'm particularly jealous of Dallow - he hits 5 BBV and gets $500 worth of GS stuff. I've gone to about 8, and only 3 have had new shipments of any sort and those were both the minimum (30) PS2 games. Still, I was able to convert a few things from those stores into about $150 at GS. I got the best things from the store 1/2 mile from my house and then a bit more from the second one I went to. All my time after that was pretty much wasted. However, on the way out of town for a family trip tomorrow I plan on hitting up a store that supposedly has 91 PS2 games. I can't imagine seeing that many in one place. Hopefully my family doesn't disown me for stopping there - I haven't told them my plan yet ;).
Hit 5 BBs, and 4 were participating, though one of them only had 20 or so undesirable PS2 titles. Only one store had 360 titles, and this was the same store that had 360 games during the last POG sale. Didn't see any original 1.99 Xbox titles at any of the stores though.
Saw all the usuals- many God of War 2, Lego Star Wars, and Guitar Hero 3/80s etc, for GS fodder. One interesting thing I found was the Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence 2nd /bonus disc (and this same store didn't actually have the game disc itself), and there was another PS2 disc that didn't have the game's name on it, though closer inspection revealed it to be Shadow of the Colossus.
I know I'm exposing my newbness here, but GS will take games without the manual or artwork?? Will they give you the same trade-in value as if they had it?

I stopped at the Newport, KY location & they had 3 BINs that were well stocked-- 2 were full of PS2 games & the other was full of 360 games.
You know what gets me, is just like IO and others have said. They'll take in the games disc only or scratched to shit, charge a refurb fee and then not give the people buying them any sort of discount if they put them right on the shelf for sale.

I will say that I have seen a 'refurb' box of shit going out to their 'refurb center' almost every time i've gone into one of my local GS stores to trade stuff in recently. So, maybe they're not so full of shit after all?

I just thought they took the 'fees' and put the shitty condition stuff on the shelf without repairing them, though I KNOW that's what they USED to do.
i can see why best buy never got any of these deals...went to the blockbuster in kingston pa
Where is there a BBV in Kingston? I know there's one in Edwardsville(which produced a GTAIV SE for PS3 during the clearance) and one in West Pittston, as well as one in Wilkes-Barre and the one I completely forgot about the last time down going towards Nanticoke in the shopping center where they shut down the Kmart there a while back.

Now I at least know I have some competition in Luzerne County for some of these deals.....:bomb::bomb:

Oh, GS does send at least some of their games off to get refurbed. If you've ever bought any of their used games online what you get for the most part are refurbed games that were originally too crappy to put on the store shelves ;).

Too crappy to put on their store's shelves? Isn't that like 95% of them?

Their quality has managed to get better, I will give them that, but I'm sure some of their best customers(soccer moms with brats in tow)aren't exactly pleased by the sudden changes.

Went to 3 BBV's and 2 places had employees that had no idea what I was talking about, the third told me they hadn't recieved POG's for a very very long time already due to the bad economic situation BBV is in.

Does anyone have a picture of what these clear cases look like? Not a single store around me had a clear case for the games.

Picked a few game games at a Blockbuster in Warren, MI.

FEAR (X360): $6.99
Devil May Cry 2 (X360): $6.99
2 x COD4 (X360): $6.99
Slient Hill 4 (PS2) : $2.99
Rogue Galaxy (PS2): $2.99
Spartan Total Warrior (PS2): $2.99

The only thing I'm trading in are the two COD 4's. I already have one.

The clear cases are shaped just like normal cases. They have no artwork at all, and you can see the disc from the outside. The ones at my BBV are not completely clear, more of an opaque, so it is a little difficult to see what the title inside is.

Apparently that particular store didn't think this thing all the way through.

They're opaque in all of the stores. These came shipped and already packaged. The only thing missing was the barcode. There are several stores in the Oklahoma City metro with them. I picked up/saw everything that has been posted and then some. I got 1 extra COD 4 to trade. Does anyone know the GS trade-in for it?
Struck out in La Habra, CA. I know another CAG had good luck their last night, but I stopped in tonight hunting for COD4 and Halo 3. No luck on those, but I did grab a couple of older 360 games that I either haven't played yet (Bully, Mass Effect) or haven't played in a while (Fight Night Round 3).

Was tempted by a few others, but nothing really caught my eye. For anyone in the area, they had a copy of Oblivion, Smackdown 07 and 08, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2, Condemned 2, Army Of Two, Kane & Lynch, The Club, Need For Speed Pro Street, Test Drive Something or other, and a bunch of sports games. Still two copies of Bully if anyone's looking for that one.
So is this a confirm for 360 POG games in the OC, I think your store makes it 7 stores in the OC so far, but the first to have 360.

Hit my regular 5 stores and only one had any 360 games(Toms River/Rt 37). Grabbed a Gears of War for me and a Halo 3 for Gamestop. There's another Gears there.
There's two other stores I usually make a road trip to but with the holiday traffic I'll have to wait until Tuesday at the earliest to attempt to go on the Garden State Parkway.
One store had a Vince Carter(NJ Nets) wall art in front of building with a tag that said "FREE". I left it there and as I drove past at 2am on my way home from work it was still there. Says a lot about both Blockbuster and the Nets that they can't give the thing away.
Was impressed with the selection of used games available at all stores. By the time the annual(?) B1G1 comes around there should be some great deals.

Both GameRush's in Kalamazoo Michigan had a pretty decent selection

I picked up
Godfather 360
GRAW2 360
Psychonauts xbox
GTA: SA xbox
red dead revolver xbox
SW battlefront 2 ps2
FFXII ps2
God of War II ps2

30 bucks for 8 games? Can't beat that

Saw several halo3, COD4, smackdown, kane and lynch, one mass effect, lots of sports games, NFSMW, vegas, saints row, fear...

My BBV had only one Xbox game and it wasn't even a POG. All of the POGs were mixed in with other used games that had cover art and manuals in their oxes.

Mine didn't have many - but I did pick up Dead or Alive 4 and Earth Defense Force for 6.99 each. Saw Condemned 2 and a few sports games - not really a great variety. Maybe they just haven't got a delivery yet...

Went to 2 stores yesterday and only one store had a handful of Wii games, but they were leftovers from prez days. This doesn't look good for my area, but i am hoping the next 2 stores will be better.
If anyone can get a COD4 for me I would gladly pay what gamespot would pay.
I have 1 extra that I might trade. I sent a pm.

I went to 4 GS's yesterday and had very minor success.

When I walked into the first store, I actually heard 1 of the eployees answering questions on the phone about this sale. And the same 3/4 stores had games this time and on Pres Day.

Only 1 store I went to had any 360 games and all I got was Bioshock to trade. Picked up a GoW II at 2 different stores. And my local store had a bunch of crap. I was first to look through them too. The manager knows me and got the box out as soon as I came in, but they weren't tagged and she actually called another store to see how to charge for them. But they only got 30 PS2 games, when she said another store got 90. I should call and ask which store that was...

I just picked up the following at mine:

Dreamfall (xb)
Halo 2 (xb)
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (ps2)

And the following for the kids:

Lego Indiana Jones (360)
Predator Concrete Jungle (ps2)
Iron Man (ps2)
Spyro A Hero's Tail (ps2)

REALLY wanted R6V2 but they didn't have any :( Anybody got an extra - I can send paypal
They're opaque in all of the stores.
I think the word we are looking for here is "translucent". Not quite transparent as you cant see clearly, but if it was opaque, you wouldnt be able to see anything.

On topic: The one store in my area (NoVa) that had the POGs last time didnt look like it had been re-stocked on Thursday. Neither did the larger store in the area. Perhaps I'll check again today as I do need to run out to get some batteries.

Went to 2 blockbusters (one in gardena at artesia/western and one in lawndale at redondo/hawthorne) but they didn't have any POG. All they had were movies 3 for $20.

You guys are so lucky! I looked around the couple of Portland, OR stores and all they had was a (decent) selection of preplayed games - but they had the artwork and were WAY overpriced. No prepacks around here that I can see.

Went to my local Blockbuster yesterday in Upstate NY. They had a display right by the checkout of a bunch of POGs, 2/3 PS2 and the rest 360. Picked up GTA IV to pad w/ two PS3 games for the +$10 @ GS. Lego Star Wars was really the only notable PS2 game of any GS value.

Went back today to see what was left and anything decent had been picked. Left a copy of GTA IV yesterday, that was gone and only one of many God of War II's was left. 360 games were going fast.

The woman working there yesterday was really nice and helpful. When I went to check out and she saw what I was buying she said she had a couple more stacks behind the counter and asked if I wanted to look over them too. Today they were still sitting behind the counter still, don't know what plans they have for those, there was plenty of room to put them out.

Oh yah, this is just a regular BBV, no Gamerush attached.
Went to 2 blockbusters (one in gardena at artesia/western and one in lawndale at redondo/hawthorne) but they didn't have any POG. All they had were movies 3 for $20.
Thanks for saving me the short trip. I'll check other BBVs in the area tomorrow. Hopefully, I get lucky and am able to get back into flipping. I've been lucky in the past but this time I seem to be late to the party. I didn't have muck luck finding POG during the President's sale.

went to 3 BB and only 1 had this sale going.
all they had was 3 ps2 games avail.
they had a sign that said xbox elite for 199.99, was going to pick it up but they said the price was for the arcade. blah.

the 3rd one actually had a closing liquidation sale.
But I checked the prices and they wanted 50 bucks for COD4 and 45 for Orange box. USED and prob. scratched like nobodies business.
no wonder they are closing.
Veggielasagna - where in upstate NY? I've checked 2 around here and am yet to find anyone doing this sale.
Queensbury, NY

Quite a bit left there this morning, but the good stuff was mostly gone.

Blockbuster has a habit of honoring whatever prices are being "displayed"; I would have pushed them...

Went to 2 Gamerush's on Staten Island. The Halo 3 and Ace Combat 6 disappeared from the one I visited earlier in the week (probably should have hid AC6 somewhere...) Curiously, they did ad a few games into the clearance bin that did include cover art (Enchanted Arms, Earth Defense Force and some sports games), I'm just assuming they were part of the sale by their presence in the bin though, and the fact that they were using the same cases as the rest... none of the games in that section had any stickers on them "Prepk whatever" or otherwise. They did have a Mass Effect and more than a few Assasin's Creeds and Condmened 2s... Also had some Need For Speed: Prostreets, which are apparently getting $7 from Gamestop (see a GS thread.)

The other store had some Bullys, an Overlord, a NFS Carbon (also apparently getting $7 from GS), among others. I should note the the clearence sections in both stores consisted exclusively of 360 games, so no PS2 or PS3.

I did take advantafe of the 3 for $20 DVD sale at the second store, buying Death Race, The complete first season of Stargate: Atlantis, and the complete third season of Wonder Women!

Anyone know if you'd have any trouble getting into Stargate: Atlantis if you never really followed SG1?

The BBV's in NOVA are craptastic when it comes to this deal. I even got a little attitude from one of the salespeople when I asked if they had gotten in games. She said "yeah we get in games, and we sell them. We put them out and people buy them, that's what happens," or something to that effect. Shame on me for having interest in buying things at her store. I think she was the store manager, too. Not to be a dick, but when BBV goes under, I'll take solace that one person is losing a job.

Stopped by a three Blockbusters while out on other errands (wasn't going to dedicate a trip for this since I wasn't hopeful at all) and I turned up with nothing. I wonder if I should've asked but if I did, I most likely would've been met with a blank stare and I wouldn't want to try and explain to the employee how to search the other stores. Hopefully there will be something at other stores in Sacramento (strange that such a big city received none of these shipments)

Went to 4 various BBV, and only one had recieved games, and all they had were sub par ps2 titles. Dont think I'll be able to find anything this round

Harbor and Baker? in Socal had an okay selection

Star Wars Battlefront 2:Xbox
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2:Xbox
Spartan Total Warrior:Xbox
Manhunt 2:pS2

Xbox-$1.99
PS2-$2.99

No, you should be fine. It's a completely seperate galaxy with different bad guys. They introduce people from SG1 later on in the series (Woolsey, Carter, etc) but you should be fine.

I wish my store had those in there for 3 for 20... i love the show so much, even if it isn't with the cool box it normally comes in.
So is this a confirm for 360 POG games in the OC, I think your store makes it 7 stores in the OC so far, but the first to have 360.
Confirmed indeed. There's another Gamerush location I wanna check, but I doubt I'll have time - Anaheim Hills/Orange off the 91 at Santa Ana Canyon. I've had awesome luck there before (Ikaruga!), but I don't know if they've got anything worth mentioning now.

If any of you awesome CAG's stop in and check it out, I'm just searching for COD4. Grab an extra, and I'll gladly pay you for it.

hit up 4 blockbusters and 1 had nothing while the other 3 had less than 30 ps2 games. my only intention was to find trade fodder for gs so im happy i was able to get anything this time around. my haul today:

bully
lego star wars ii: original trilogy
kung fu panda
2x spider-man fof
power rangers super legends
need for speed pro street
guitar hero 3
madden 2008
marvel ultimate alliance
4x god of war 2

avoid, bully, madden and mua if you want a 2x flip. today's run was $42.46->$94.85 + movie ticket. im happy with any flip during this drought. i have 2 more stores to hit up and $46.74 on my value card. hopefully i find some better trade fodder.

Forgot to mention that I found Rainbow Six Vegas 2 360 at a few places.
And Call of Duty: World at War Final Fronts for PS2.

3 bucks and TIV of 16.50. I was so happy.
