Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I checked two of my local BBV stores today and unlike the new game clearance I wasn't able to find shit.

The only decent flip out of the two stores was a lone copy of GH III for PS2.

I'll check one or two more, but I'm not hopeful for this sale producing the same flipping potential as others.

Anyone know how large a district is? There are several GRs around me and tons of BBs here in the Atlanta area. I found a knowledgeable manager and she said only 3 stores in her district got POGs and she directed me to two (1 I already knew about). Her store still had some old POGs like 360 WWE 2008. The first, which was a GR I never knew existed and it's really close as well, only had 360 games, the only one that I don't think has been mentioned is Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The second only had original xbox games. There were some really good ones most of which I had, but I picked up a couple that I didn't have. They still had some old POGs and I wanted to pick up WWE 2008, but it finally disappeared. Guess I shoulda gotten it at one of the other stores.

BTW, I saw several used PS2 games at all three stores which I think are newly converted rentals. There's no way they got PS2 Gauntlet Dark Legacy traded in at all three stores.
hit up 4 blockbusters and 1 had nothing while the other 3 had less than 30 ps2 games. my only intention was to find trade fodder for gs so im happy i was able to get anything this time around. my haul today:

kung fu panda

power rangers super legends

guitar hero 3

I'm assuming you mean for the PS2. Bully for 360 is apparently getting $9 TIV at Gamestop, according to the GS thread. Almost $13 after the deals are taken into account.

i am not a hoarder. i went to 3 stores and grabbed 1 at each, 2 at the last one. i left at least 2-3 copies at each store.

yes ps2. none of my stores got in any 360 games.

I'm in La Habra too, will let you know if I find it, I haven't seen any (new) games in clear plastic cases, just the left overs they had from last time, have you seen any new additions since last time ?

Have you ever even read this thread before? Get lost.

I still can't find any prepacks. Only one store had a few last time around. Not even worth the effort it seems.

Quite a few games at the Blockbuster on Bellaire and Chimney Rock. They had 2 carts of PS2 and 360 games. I didn't want anything since I have a PS3, but I saw Bully, Grid, Lego Star Wars, Guitar Hero III, and some other stuff. I couldn't look through it long because I was in a rush.

I was looking to trade in Metroid Prime 3 (hoping to get a decent value for it). I called up three stores. Two said they no longer accept that title and one quoted $4. Dang.

domi the only one I found that got POG was the one on florida and bears. Got two boxes PS2 one 360 and one Xbox. Worker told me they got two CoD4 but were picked up right away. They did have GTA 4 God of war 2 Timeshift and a couple other good ones. Lots of stuff to flip

Went to quite a few BBV yesterday in Orange County, CA, but only a few actually had POGs and they were mainly PS2 games. Picked up a few here and there to flip. A couple stores did have a couple of 360 games, but based on the sticker, they were from the previous POG sale. I did manage to pick up a used copy of Bad Company for 360 for $10 (worker had to manual override it) as well as a POG copy of Condemned 2 (will be returning my new copy that I got from Bestbuy from the $10 sale a few weeks ago).

BBV/Gamerush in Diamond Bar, CA (on Grand, Diamond Bar Blvd.) still had a few of the following left:

Assassins Creed
R6 Vegas
GRAW 2
Condemned 2
Dark Sector
Army of Two
1 God of War 2
Was hoping to find Rogue Galaxy. Didn't work out :(
I only found one copy of Rogue Galaxy out of the 5 BBVs I've visited.

The San Francisco BBV on Geary had nothing. The one at Lakeshore had very limited PS2 selection. I got Black and Call of Duty: Finest Hour, but nothing else. I should mention that neither one was a Gamerush.

You're kidding, right? You'd rather some disc only copy of a game rather than a complete NEW copy that doesn't look like it was skipped across the ground a bunch of times?

I didn't get a chance to check my local 2-3 BBV stores today, but hopefully they have a few decent flips left.

Had a horrible experience at a Hollywood today (dont really feel like going into details as ive already talked about it quite a bit). But after that horrible experience, I went to the BB by my house and found the following:

karma.jpg

The one on the right made me the happiest. Apparently my store got 4 of the World Tour's, I was lucky enough to snag the last one.
BTW, I saw several used PS2 games at all three stores which I think are newly converted rentals. There's no way they got PS2 Gauntlet Dark Legacy traded in at all three stores.
Well, 99% of the used games at most stores are converted rentals. There may be somewhat more trade-ins at a Gamerush store but as far as regular BBvs go that's the way it is.
I'll check one or two more, but I'm not hopeful for this sale producing the same flipping potential as others.
Remember this isn't a "sale" so much as some stuff that got sent to some stores ;).
I was looking to trade in Metroid Prime 3 (hoping to get a decent value for it). I called up three stores. Two said they no longer accept that title and one quoted $4. Dang.
Wow, that's insane considering that in my last trade at BBV I got $4.50 for Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai for PSP which in no way is worth as much (under any reckoning) as Metroid Prime 3.

So, I was able to hit this mythical "huge used game selling" store on my way out of town with the family yesterday (short trip - already home again ;)). It was a fairly non-descript BBV kind of out in the middle of nowhere. But maybe because of that there is nowhere else to buy used games and they sell a lot there. They had 2 bins that were mostly full of PREPACK games. That is more than I've seen at 6 or 7 other stores combined! It seemed they had some old 360 stuff since it was just a couple of titles. But clearly they got a new PS2 and Xbox shipment. There wasn't anything spectacular like GHWT or Quantum of Solace, but I picked up a few things including Pirates and Fatal Frame II for Xbox which I think are relatively rare so I couldn't pass them up for $1.99. The refurb jobs on these games are not nearly as good as on the 360 ones though. I actually had to turn a few down because of their condition.

By the way, clearly God of War II is the most common game in this set of Prepacks. I've seen it at every store that got new shipments with usually 2 or 3 copies out of 30 total at each store. This one that had 90 or so PS2 games had 4 or 5 of them!
Well, 99% of the used games at most stores are converted rentals. There may be somewhat more trade-ins at a Gamerush store but as far as regular BBvs go that's the way it is.
Well, yeah, I think some stores around here have never had anyone trade in a game from someone besides me. I was just saying that it looked like a lot of rentals had been very recently (last week or so) converted to used for sale games which included some harder to find older games. Just a heads up for someone looking to buy Pikmin or some equivalent that they may be able to find a copy for sale that until very recently was a rental and unavailable to purchase.

cincinnati ohio, bbv location in blue ash had a great selection of 360 games, some xbox as well, and limited ps3 games, possible few good games to trade in.

I went to 3 Blockbusters around my area in Michigan. Two were dedicated Blockbuster stores ie. no Gamerush. I found games at all locations, but also noticed at one store that they had a few 360 games in the regular used section that were in clear cases marked with stickers with prices such as $19.99 etc. When they scanned them, they rang up as $6.99.(so, if you find a game you want in those clear cases - the sticker should say "x360-Prepack POG w/o cover art", it wouldn't hurt to have them check the price as it should ring up as $6.99. Picked up Bully and the 360 Katamari game that way even though they had stickers for $14.99.

I was able to pick up Bioshock for 360 for 6.99 yesterday didnt see anything else of interest, but there were copies of Madden 08, MX vs ATV, and Crash Bandicoot for 360 also for 6.99 disc only

In San Antonio, the Blockbuster on Marbach and 410 has God of War 2, Kingdom Hearts, and other good PS2 games for $2-$3. The 360 games were $6.99 for games like Army of Two and NBA 2K8.

One thing ive noticed is that a lot of the stores didnt get their Presidents Day sales til a week after Presidents day (or at least, the barcodes are dated a week after Pres Day, who knows when they received them). Hopefully the same thing will happen with this deal and the stores that missed out on the initial run will be getting another shipment this or next week.

made it out yesterday, pretty upset. Wasn't able to go check my bbv due to my girlfriend coming up to visit, and in CT we ony have BBV (w/o gamestore) so I figured we didn't have any of these prepacks.

Turns out I was wrong, I was greeted at the entrance by a bin with only madden and frontline left (for the most part) for 6.99 So bristol bbv in ct had the deal going, and I completely missed out.

I remember thinking like this last time when some people confirmed late arrivals and it was a whole nother round of heartbreak for me. I still have some more stores to check but if they don't have them by now, I'm not gonna bother checking a second or third time.

First of all, Bezerker, what was your Hollywood horror story? I thought you meant you had posted about it elsewhere but I don't see it. You gotta tell us now, man!

Anyway, back to BBV. It is my recollection that any store that got anything last time got it the week before Presidents Day and while many stores were expecting shipments (and thus I checked for like 2 weeks afterwards) they never got them. It is possible some of the stores were lazy and didn't get stuff tagged and put out till afterwards but I think most of the shipments did get in before. I suspect it will be the same way this time. I am not expecting any more of these prepack games to show up until the next time they do such a thing (4th of July maybe?).
This was still 30$ at GameCrazy on Friday (With MVP)
No way, really? I traded one at BBV when I was travelling for work a few weeks back because I was desperate for credit. I've never seen anohter. Oh well... Since when does GC beat BBV prices - even the newer, nerfed BBV prices? I'll definitely remember to check there next time first, though my BBV credit went to good use so that's OK.

Before that, when I thought I had used up all my BBV credit I actually found one of those $5 bonus gift cards in a drawer. But now I can't find it - have no idea what I did with it. Kind of sad, since now that my Value card is back down to zero it was my last bit of credit.

Hmm, so that means that Hollywood Video should also give $30 for X-Blades. Interesting. I know this is sort of frowned upon, but does anyone have a TIV for Afro Samurai (PS3) at Gamecrazy?
Sorry for OT. Do you have to pay for MVP?
Yes, and in fact mine was up for renewal but I declined since I use it so infrequently. Most of my trades there were price matching BBV trades and you don't need MVP for that. Though my last trade was actually matching Gamestop (God of War II with the 30% promo).

I think it might be $15 the first time and $10 for renewal? Not really sure any more. You used to get a magazine sub with that (something good like Nintendo Power) but they dropped that now.

Gamecrazy's page says $10.

MVP Pays for Itself
At just $9.99 for an MVP membership, Jill covers the cost of the card in her very first visit. Plus she gets awesome discounts all year long.
I renewed mine for three reasons

1) It gets you unlimited disc polishing (which I use for my ebay sales, and all my sons friends 360 games)
2) They need to get so many renewals per day, and they are cool to me, so I give to my karma account.
3) And you need it for the discount on used games (IO, I'm surprised you didn't get it for this reason alone)
