Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I ended up trading in the xblades and got $30 after signing up for MVP at Gamecrazy. I got the stamp card for disc buffing as well. Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many games we can bring per visit?

Some have reported unlimited buffing at the store you sign up at and the card is for the rest. I asked specifically about this at the store I signed up at Friday and the manager said the card is used at all locations so you are limited to the number on the card for free. If you are a good customer, you will likely not need the card at all at the store you frequent most. The manager at my favorite store is pretty cool and really wants to help the customer, especially the regular ones. I have not checked the policy for GameCrazy, so only have this manager's word to go by.

I see. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be bringing in a few games at a time.

Picked up Enchanted Arms 360 from the clearance; nothing new added since last week. Just for the hell of it I asked if the clearance games were guranteed, it was then that the employee mentioned that those games were brand new, with just the artwork\instructions\cases removed. Haven't yet seen any signs of wear on any of the clearance games, so is this true?

Also forgot to mention last week that Bourne Conspiracy (360) dropped to $15.

No, it's not. These games are refurbed. Refurbed by the best machine known to man. I'm more than positive these are the defective games that we are forced to send back to the distribution center every once in a while. If you look at the center ring in most of the games, you can still see some scratches.

They're refurbished, but they're guaranteed for I think 30 days. I bought a couple of PS2 games without looking at them; when I got home, I found that they were cracked. The store had no problem giving a full refund. As well I found a strange-looking copy of Halo 3 that I wasn't too sure about. The employee assured me that if it didn't work, I'd be able to return it. When it didn't work, I simply swapped it with another game I wanted.

Hmmm, the two games I've got so far (Enchanted Arms and, uh, Superman) were in perfect condition. Though I remember, looking through the plastic at one of the copies of Bully I saw, I noticed what looked like a good chunk of the inner ring label (where the holograms are visible) absent, but it was hard to be sure since I couldn't see the disc correctly. But if they are refurbed, what the hell were they doing with all their ex-defective refurbished games (that they've presumably would have been collecting since they've started selling used games) all this time???

Yeah, I don't know how they could think they are new. The PS2 games, at least, look nothing like new. A great deal of them have cracks in the center plastic (not enough to cause problems but still). They have clear resurfacing marks, and usually gunk in the spindle area from the resurfacing machine. Plus, like DarkRider said they are usually pretty scratched up in the center area which indicates just how bad they probably were before resurfacing. The 360 games tend to look much better and I could see mixing those up with new though.

Still, though, one of the GS clerks I dealt with made a note about what great shape my games were in and he wished others took such great care of them . I thought that was all a bit odd since I was trading in 6 disc-only games, but whatever.

So did anyone confirm this Tenchu Shadow Assassin quote we had? I picked one up to round out a B2G1 at GS so I'll find out tomorrow I guess.

D'oh!

Looks like Tenchu Shadow Assassin for Wii dropped to $15 today (if it really was $19 last week as quoted earlier). I could have easily traded it in Sunday but I saved it for today for some reason. Still not too bad since I spent $36 at GS getting 2 games I wanted and Tenchu as filler (to fill out the B2G1).

Also got a quote of $12 for PS3 Singstar Vol. 2 (game only).

Singstar Vol 1 bundle still getting $36 at certain BBV can be had a TRU 2 for $15 YMMV as some stores it comes up at 0 one store said "the manager doesn't want to take it because the Mics might not work" Lame.

Yeah, I got a coiple of those in my TRU run yesterday (along with Vol 2 which is why I asked about that). Volume 2 (game only) is a bit easier to deal with but doesn't get nearly as much. Does anyone know if the Vol. 2 bundle has a "not for resale" version of the game inside or is it just the same as the regular one?

The game itself (if it has a barcode anyway) will get you $12 at BBV. So if you can get 2 that's $15 -> $24: not the greatest, but we takes what we can gets nowadays.

It will be highly YMMV trading in the Vol. 1 bundle because they got memos recently telling them specifically not to accept games bundled with accessories. Of course, since it is still in the system (and still apparently $36) if you can get someone to take it then go for it. I traded 2 of those way back when Sears had them on clearance so I'm not going to try another now at BBV.

Just call the BBV in your area and ask them how much the TIV is for Singstar bundle Vol. 1 if they say $36, they will most likely do it for you, if it comes up 0, then your out of luck.

I don't see why it would come up 0 some places and $36 at others. It is $36 in the system. That doesn't mean they have to accept it for trade though. It will always be YMMV, even if you call and ask first. You could go in and have the manager come out and say "sorry, we were mistaken and can't accept that".

I don't know why either, but that's what some of them said, I did find two stores that accepted it for $36.
I believe that blockbusters now have the ability to see what you have traded in to other stores now.
Why do you believe this? If true this isn't the huge deal it would have been, say, a year ago simply because there aren't big flips any more. Everyone's trade history should be pretty clean now as they only keep 3 months worth of history at the store level and trade-in prices have been crappy for just about that long now ;).
I need to convert my GS credit to blockbuster (because both of my gamestops are out of psn cards :( ) Any suggestions?
Tenchu Shadow Assassin for the Wii is a $19.99 -> $15 flip (apparently it was $19 last week but I missed that).

I picked one up as part of a B2G1 so that was still worth it. The best you can do now is $15.99 -> $15 with Edge + the eternal 10% coupon. If we get a Wii coupon at GS soon then it would be better. But still, that's not too bad if you have excess GS credit and want those PSN cards. It seems like you should be able to find them at some GS though or they will get more in soon - probably easier than dealing with flipping.

Anyone know what BB stores do with their games once someone trades them in? Whenever I trade in games at BB I never see them on the used shelves. Are they transferred to other stores or something?

do they still put those big "FORMER RENTAL, PLEASE BE KIND, REWIND" stickers on the games? I remember they put those be kind rewind stamps even on video games. The last time I walked into one was about 5 years ago.

That's one of the main reasons I stopped renting games from them- anyway, no they don't now.

I see the ones I've traded out for sale. It usually takes them a few days to process it though. In general, though, the ones you trade stay at that store. They might transfer them out later as part of a larger stock overhaul.

 I've been actively trading at Gamerush and then regular Blockbusters for about 4 1/2 years now and have never seen one of those stickers - even on the older PS1/N64 game stock GR was getting rid of a few years back. They seem to be pretty good about not putting anything on the games any more. Hollywood Video, on the other hand, puts stickers on game discs still sometimes.

I don't see why it would come up 0 some places and $36 at others. It is $36 in the system. That doesn't mean they have to accept it for trade though. It will always be YMMV, even if you call and ask first. You could go in and have the manager come out and say "sorry, we were mistaken and can't accept that".

when they changed the TIV a few months ago they also greatly lowered the number of any particular game we can accept for trades. i.e. pre change the default number on every game available to trade was 999. post change, the number accepted for trade is 3, 4 or 5 available for the most part. looks like if any of a particular game was traded at any point that would lower the number available to trade. for example i traded in at least 5 elder scrolls and now our store can no longer accept that game, so that is what probably happened with the singstar at the stores that had no trade value. our favorite game cranium bukkake is one exception however we still have 997 available to trade at $16 since i traded in 2 of those.

I believe that blockbusters now have the ability to see what you have traded in to other stores now.

that is not true.

I need to convert my GS credit to blockbuster (because both of my gamestops are out of psn cards :( ) Any suggestions?

x360 godfather is trading for $10. there were several godfather prepacks at my store. if you can get the clerk to give you the cover art its a $6.99/$10.00 flip. its a ymmv for the clerk giving u the cover art. i have no problem doing it if someone asks since we have so much old cover art just sitting in a box.
Why do you believe this? If true this isn't the huge deal it would have been, say, a year ago simply because there aren't big flips any more. Everyone's trade history should be pretty clean now as they only keep 3 months worth of history at the store level and trade-in prices have been crappy for just about that long now ;).
I was trading in some Singstar V1 bundles and had gone to 2 stores already. Just to spread them around, and then the third store I went to, the girl told me that I had already been trading to other stores that day. They then told me that they couldn't take it because it had the mics, "accessories".

Nope. We still don't have that ability.

Sounds like you had a Junior Detective checking up on you and calling ahead to the other stores. Time to lay low!

Wow, thats lame. Looks like i'll try the ones on the north side. I swear she said that though.

Is there any way to find out if they can put comments on my account so that each store can see them when I go in? I used to work for BBV about 7 years ago, and I know comments can be added, but I have no idea if they are now from store to store.

wow cranium held it's value? I saw BBVs selling those at $9.99 each so i fugured the TIV must have gone down.
Has anyone seen Sacred 2 or UFC: Undisputed at BBV ?

Didn't those games just come out? I would say you have a 0% chance of finding them as part of this sale considering everything has to be prepackaged.

Trying to keep an eye out for $14.99 games in hope of a B1G1 soon. Last year it was late June/early July.
Games of note:
DS
All $14.99
The World Ends With You
Lego Indy
Force Unleashed
Pokemon dungeon blue rescue team
Pokemon dungeon explorers of Darkness

Need to work on other systems, but those were what I saw last night.

Whether to trade to GS or keep, good idea to start taking note of what's available and where. Usually there are good trade in promo's come summer with them begging for pre orders of Madden.

Saw some funny goings on at a BB I haven't visited in a few weeks. All the regular used games were removed from the shelves and were instead thrown disorganized into one of those small double-sided shelving units you usually see movies placed in (the ones that always have the x for $20 deals displayed.) The regular shelves were filled with just rental games, and moved into an odd angle that just seemed to take up space.

They still had a bunch of clearance games though, nothing special except for a $2.99 PS2 Sims2 Pets that supposedly gets $5 at Gamestop. Ended up getting a disc-only 360 far Cry.
Saw a bunch of giant Nintendo toys at my store.
O RLY? I love Nintendo Branded stuff, I'm such a fanboy. TRU has some figures and stuff (which actually were released like, at least a year ago) and I had to hold myself back from buying them all up.

Even found a small plastic jar with some money in it in the aisle. Had to take it to the counter and resist the devil on my shoulder saying, "That's at LEAST one toy here!"

Updated the TIV list-- hasn't been posted, but the Buzz PS3 bundle cannot be traded in. Courtsey of another poster in... THE OTHER FLIP GROUP!!!

A shame about the 12 dollar TIV for game only Singstar volume 2. In the old days, we'd easily be in the 20 range on that. Oh well.

Who are you refering as to the other flip group may I ask?

Bought a set of Mario figures, they are series 2. Sucks that they had $4.99 price stickers over $2.99 ones. But a full set is hard to resist.

Also bought the 12" Mario DS holder. He's holding a paper DS Lite. I think I'll have him hold my Wii Remote instead. Passed on the 12" DK action figure. Both were $24.99.

They also had those big vinyl wall stickers that GS had a while back.

Paid cash, but I just sold a EA Sports Active and a Wii Sports that I purchased with GS credit, so I guess it works out. :D

Did all the series 2 figures originally have $2.99 stickers? If so, your store might have made a pricing error and corrected it. I'm just wondering if I can get lucky and find the series 2 figures still marked $2.99 at one of my stores. If not, $30 in BBV credit for the whole set isn't bad either.

Yeah they all did. I seem to recall reading something about the previous series being marked down to $2.99 (I never saw those in any of my stores). Maybe they thought these were the same figures. Oh well.

Here's a bad photo of the gang all unpackaged. The AAA batteries I had lasted for only one shot!

Hi all,

I used to be a low time flipper about a year ago (little less), but have stopped since I remember reading everything was basically dying. I decided to check back in here, but don't want to read 128 pages of stuff.

Basically, is flipping still 'dead' or is it somewhat back? Just curious.

Thanks!

In short, blockbuster dropped it's TIVs to 25 or less a while ago (maybe 2 months or so). That really hurt. They still do run promos like buy 2 get 1 free on the 14.99 and under, but those are only hugely beneficial if they coincide with a gamestop trade in promo. Recently BBV has gotten 2 shipments of disc only games that included some of the higher trade in value games for gamestop (such as halo 3, COD4). Because this happened during a good trade in promo it was pretty prosperous, but in general, trading to BBV has really died down. Hope that helps.

The best flip was when the first POG shipment coincided with a Weekly GS coupon for +50% trade bonus for Wii games, but that was 4 months ago.

It's pretty dead, but this week you could go to TRU and get 2 singstar VoL 1 for $15, and if you could find a BBV that would do it, you could get $72 for both of them.

ya hopefully something pops up again like that.

Was at GR earlier and noticed that Ninja Gaiden 2 has finally dropped to $15 used.

Also got $12 at Gamestop for a 360 Brothers in Arms:HH for some reason, so obviously this would be something to get if found among the disc-only games.
