Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Really seeming like feast or famine at the BB stores across the country, all 4 stores I checked had a TON of stuff one of the cool workers I got to know when there was alot of flipping happening told me to check in again next week he thinks there will be some more drops/pulls.

Sorry for the double post but i'm on my iphone.

I'll post my GS tivs in the appropriate thread but deBlob Wii did drop to $9 base tiv. Alot of other stuff dropped (older quotes in GS thread) but nothing that affects the games in the list in the OP.
How do you swap it? I'd love to get me a copy of Blazblue
As long as you got a receipt from when you did the trade 3 deal, you can probably go back to the same store and request a gift receipt(which only contains a barcode and the name of the item(s) purchased).

However, I would then take that gift receipt to a different GS and try to return it for store credit or something else in the store, since I'm not sure if the original store would be ok with returning something that you probably only paid tax on.

By the way, since I forgot to mention it earlier, if you have the EDGE card it gives you an additional 10% bump with this trade deal.

TIV's for GS for the games I traded(pre promo bump, with promo bump, EDGE 10% bump):

007 Quantum Of Solace(360):$7.50, $20.00, $.75
Folklore(PS3):$6.25, $19.99, $.62
Grand Theft Auto IV(PS3):$8.50, $20.00, $.85

I just bought Mercs 2 and Bully Scholarship edition today.. but I'm going to be doing a lot more flipping now.

Well I'm walking to bb tomorrow morning, how do you have to be to trade stuff into gamestop, older than 16 i pressume, unless you just need id, in which case a permit would work. Well, i need to see what bbv has before i can trade anything in.
None of the 3 BBVs that I went to had any signs up promoting the b1g1 sale.
Is this pretty standard? I went to one that had no signage, but nothing really blew me away. I might check another 1 or 2 places, but I'd like to know if no signage is par for the course.

I did not see this advertised anywhere in 2 stores and the employees knew nothing about it. There was not much to pick from either bunch of old crap and games without cover art.

hit the west jefferson BB up in fort wayne

Only grabbed

Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

both for ds for 10.00

None of the blockbusters around here have crap on the DS or psp at 14.99 or under most of its at 19.99 and higher

there is one more but its down in a bad part of town and they mostly have junk titles there and not worth wasting 7 bucks in gas

(southgate for those wondering in fort wayne)
How do you know that 2 of your stores weren't doing it? Was it because the CSR told you, or did you actually try to ring up some games and the register didn't recognize the B1G1 sale? I have a feeling it's the former rather than the latter. Not all employees are aware of this sale. However, the computer will ring up the sale regardless as long as you're not in a franchise store...
I'll try the register tonight then...

A few of my stores were over flowing with games (4 of the 8 stores I went to). I was pretty happy with my haul, but some of the employees made me want to bang my head on the wall.

First store I went to was pretty good about matching the games together, seemed to automatically do it... the store where I picked up 10 games... they didnt ring up properly and I had her redo the entire transaction seperately. I felt bad having her do that... but there's no way I was losing out on like $20+ of my credit because of sloppy check-outs. I sound like a jerk... but I was trying to be as cheap ass as possible today :)

So when you guys are checking out, pay attention to the transaction and dont expect the pairings to be correct.

Also - I saw FFXI for the 360 (the one with the expansions I believe, but only the expansions) - 6.99... dont remember seeing that on the list previously.
Same for viva pinata pocket paradise DS - 9.99 (may have been 14.99, but it was stickered 9.99)

Did well at the Columbia, PA BBV

Snagged
Bioshock PS3
Folklore PS3
The World Ends With You DS
Okami Wii

all for $26.xx.

Went back later and paired up Top Spin 3 with a game my sister was getting.

Got the shaft at two different stores. One store, I found a Bioshock (PS3) and MX vs. ATV (PS3) amongst a pile of games, both stickered $24.99. I asked an employee to check the price, who had a bit of an attitude, but oh well. Both rang up at $14.99. Anyway, neither employee could find the game discs in the cabinet. This also happened with Mario and Sonic at another store. Very weird.

Shellshock 2 was $24.99 (YMMV on the $14.99)

So, the haul was okay, I have one store to check tomorrow, and then I'll check near the end of the promo.

Got:

:360:
Quantum of Solace (x 2)*
Spiderman WOS*
Lego Batman

*Traded those three in for FNR4

The World Ends With You

Fracture

Of the three stores I went to today only one had signs for the sale. I only picked up virtual fighter 5 and mercs 2. The other stores had a decent selection, but no more than 1 game I wanted at each. One game I am really looking for is folklore, but no dice yet.
Went ot my local BBV and 007 QOS was marked at 19.99..WTF? And that was the only game I was remotely interested in
I'm supprised, the one store by me had about five copies in the sale.

went out on a PM trip... scored some good stuff

De Blob X 2
Samba de Amigo
Okami

360 Iron Man X 2
360 Eternal Sonata
360 Lost Odyssey X 2 (generic cases)
360 Devil May Cry 4
360 Condemned 2 Bloodshot

PS3 Folklore

I am in a tough boat because I kind of want to keep Okami, de blob, eternal sonata, and folklore (a pretty average flip at only 6 something to gamestop), however, I also want that store credit to sit nice since my backlog is HUGE.

QUESTION:

How do the PS3 and 360 versions of Eternal Sonata compare?
Went ot my local BBV and 007 QOS was marked at 19.99..WTF? And that was the only game I was remotely interested in
Have them scan the game, it'll ring up $14.99 if it's not a franchise store.
I'm supprised, the one store by me had about five copies in the sale.
Mind had about 10

Was it the PS3 version? I think only the 360 version is $14.99.

Yeah, Cranium Kabooki's sitting on the shelf at my local BBV...It's just screaming at me to buy it, with its little $10 price-tag. Odd that I could walk out the door, and right back in for $6.

yea, the PS3 007 Quantum SOlace is not 14.99

TO ABOVE POSTER...that is hilarious. How have they not changed the price yet? I traded in pretty much Cranium from Hartford to Simsbury.
As long as you got a receipt from when you did the trade 3 deal, you can probably go back to the same store and request a gift receipt(which only contains a barcode and the name of the item(s) purchased).
You can't. The POS at GS is a POS. Once they enter into another transaction they lose the ability to print out gift receipts.

Sup fellas, I have an East Houston area report:
75th St .. They do NOT have the sale

Main St in Pasadena ..They do NOT have the sale

I-10 Hywy Next to Zorro's Buffet .. They have the sale but very slim pickings .. mostly Frontlines

Beltway 8 North in Channelview area .. They have the sale .. lots of Condemned and Frontline .. none of the games comes with manual or original boxes

Seems Houston is a bust for this B1G1 free sale. =(

I'm thinkin about goin from hartford to simsbury tomarrow just to buy all those and trade them back in lol.

Did another tenchu/wheelboy/racepro credit swap. Found a few things. Gotta love stores that don't update prices or put up signage.
Fightnightrd4: check
$50 tiv in games for Amazon: check
Mario Sonic olympics for the kids: check
Might do a fightnight flip/return. Then some cheap ds games for Xmas. Need 2 of everything though. You think after 5 years of Barney these kids would learn to share.

I went to BB a few hours ago and brought up 6 games. I told them about the B1G1 and the cashier told me it started tomorrow. I mentioned that online (BB's website) has a starting date of today. Cashier told me he could try and see if it works. It worked but just to be clear, if the cashier doesn't hit total after ringing up each pair of games, then the lowest ones are free. For example, i brought up 2 $9.99 and 4 $14.99. The cashier hit total at the very end and the computer took off 2 $9.99 games and 1 $14.99 game. Also, add this to the profitable list:

Wii - Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 - $9.99 GS TIV - 8.25(month old quote though)

At first i thought it was a price mistake but turns out it wasn't.

jesse, go right ahead...unless I beat you to it, hah. Just kidding, but I doubt they will put them out that fast, the BBV employees aroundhere seem like bums...most at least.

I mean the games didnt even have the proper pricing on them today. So I scored nice, since only CAGers knew the proper pricing.

I went to three stores today...The first one had the sale with posted signage...the second one thought the sale started this weekend but called the district manager and verified that it started today...and the third one had the sale but no signage...

I got:

:360: Battlefield: Bad Company
:360: QOS
:360: Spiderman WOS
:360: Mass Effect
:wii: de blob
:wii: MySims Party

Hoping to find a third game tomorrow to go to the FNR4 dealio...

BBV #1, employees were knowledgable, guy even put them in order for me so that they would pair up correctly, excellent service.

BBV #2 had some prepackaged games, so I picked up two of those as well as 2 games for the B1G1. Bad mistake. He said it they wouldnt be part of the sale, but it still was. So after ringing them up, I had the two 14.99 to be paid while the two 2.99 for free. So after explaining to him how to pair, said he would "try it but doubt it works" And of course "WOW! THE GUY WAS RIGHT!" to his fellow employee. Well, at least I got some B1G1 prepacked games out of it, but it was another struggle.

Also, if you didnt want to read my rant, Pre-packed games are also part of the sale, picked up two 2.99 ps2 games.

First store was a bust, couldn't find two games worth getting to rub together.

Second store was much better, TWEWY, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Hulk, Dark Messiah, Bully Scholarship and BF Bad Company.

Third store was the mother load, but not for games, just picked up two copies of TWEWY, but I also got a Star Trek Phaser, Communicator, Spock Mego and Kirk Mego all for 9.99 each! Then I got Guides for half price: MGS4, Fallout 3, Pokemon Platinum, and GTA4.

I was looking for Spiderman WOS and Lego Batman. I'm out of local stores though...are they worth the hunt?

fuck, I kunai'd half my ass off today. I say only half because my main priority was finding the shit that I wanted and my 2nd priority was flipping. I left my home at 9:30am and finished at 10:30pm. I went to BBVs in seven cities. I went grocery shopping and sold some games to some friends also during that time tho. I might type a complete list later because I found some stuff that isn't in the OP. Hopefully I can recoup my money and make a profit if I can return all these Fight Night Round 4's.

Fight Night Round 4 XBOX 360 (I actually want this game yay me)
$52.50 trade in credit from Amazon ( Got like $2.55 on my edge card to for some reason)
50% off next accessory or game (SFIV Tournament stick or G25 hopefully)

Hey this is my first flip job not bad for a rookie. Now i need 3 or 4 more games to take advantage of the extra 40% for trade in credit to go along with some i got from sears clearance.

Oh can we name amazon retailer of the year now?

Before heading to BBV, I stopped by Gamestop and picked up a copy of Wheelman (PS3), Race Pro (360), Monster Jam (360) with my store credit. Traded those games and the copy of Crainum Kabooki (Wii) I had picked up a few days ago at BBV and got $68 credit on a gift card after spending about $80 in GS credit.

Went to quite a few BBV throughout Orange County, CA and picked up:

Folklore (PS3)
Bioshock (PS3) x2
Qos (360)
Burnout Paradise (360)
Orange Box (360)
GTA IV (360)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (360)

Only a few stores actually had a decent collection. Saw plenty of QoS overall and quite a bunch of GTA IV both for 360 and PS3 at one store after not seeing a single copy at any others. Was hoping to get Mass Effect and Eternal Sonata for 360 as well, but couldn't find them. Might head out to a few other stores tomorrow to see if they have those or pick up another game or two for the GS FN4 trade in deal.

Just a note, of all the stores I went to, only about half of them actually advertised the sale. Also, some of the stores hadn't updated their prices yet, so if you see a game listed here for a specific price, and its different in store, ask for a price check.

The amazon half off deal seems too good to be true. I skimmed all the fine print and it seems legit, but I'm just having a hard time believing it. I guess i need to try it, or I'll definitely regret not participating. It would be sweet to get an ion drum set half off after trading in crap that was just $30 worth of BBV credit.

I found at my local BBV all the following, all were $9.99:

Lock's Quest (DS)
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (DS)
The World Ends With You (DS)
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party (DS)
Viva Pinata Pocket Paradise (DS)
Wii Sports (Wii)

The first three were complete and in great shape. The other two DS games were cart and case and Wii Sports was disc-only.

With tax it was $31.77. Nice!

This stupid kid didn't get banned? lol

Scored Folklore and QoS for $15... Kept Folklore for myself and traded in the QoS and a Banjo Kazooie I got from Target for $10 (along with a 3rd game from my own collection that I no longer wanted). Went to Gamestop and got myself a nice new copy of FN4 for 360 with a gift reciept just in case I don't decide to keep it... ;-) Good day...

Got off work today (about an hour and half ago) and went to the bb that was a block from my workplace. Looks like they were renovating the place. Stuff was eerywhere and I could not find the used games at all. Was about to give up and saw a bin in the middle of the store and sure enough, it was the used games. They were in seperate bins according to system. Of all the bins though, the ps3 section looked the most new since all the cases were intact and manuals. They had Fallout 3 for $29.99 whihc isnt a bad price, but whatever.

picked up:
$14.99
The Bourne Conspiracy - disc has a bunch of fingerprints and light scrathes, otherwise everything intact
007 QOS - everything intact, probably the cleanest disc of the bunch
Ninja Gaiden 2 - generic case, no manual, disc a little worse than Bourne game
GTA IV - missing manual, map, disc looks like its been in a 360 that has been rotated pi times
$9.99
The Club - generic case, no manual, worse than NG2
Okami - about the same as The Club

This sale is great, I found a couple more games I was looking for tonight:

$14.99:
Tomb Raider Underworld (Wii)
Worms: A Space Oddity (Wii)

$9.99:
Sega Rally Revo (PS3)
Okami (trade copy)

Only thing I'm still hoping to find is Devil May Cry 4 (PS3).

Looked at the condition at some of these games, the two games I got from one certain BBV are just horrible. Probaly just get a refund since it doesnt look like they had other games. The area its located in shouldnt be too bad, but the fact that its next to a grocery store might mean people from all over the city...

Shellshock 2 is listed in the OP as $14.99 - I tried to pick it up tonight and it rang up as $24.99. The CSR scanned the back barcode first - then I asked her to scan the front. She said both came up as $24.99 - not sure if she was telling the truth but I could not see the screen and I had no reason to call shenanigans on her.

Proceeded to buy GTAIV 360 and QoS 360 and Wall-e wii with Iron Man 360 when the other CSR rang them all up together and got the 2 9.99 games for free. Started to argue but was obviously getting nowhere so said - I'll just take the 14.99 ones then. She rang that up and then I said thanks - I think I will take the 2 9.99 ones after all. Made my point in the most elegant way ever managed to in any of these cases and did not have to endure the - "I'll do it for you this time but that is the way the computer is supposed to work" routine.

Anyone else purchased Shellshocked 2 yet in this deal??

Cheers

G
