Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Went ot my local BBV and 007 QOS was marked at 19.99..WTF? And that was the only game I was remotely interested in
Might want to price check. One of my local stores is horrible about updating the price. An extreme example is the copy of GTA IV that was marked $40.99 (handwritten on the price tag, no less). Quick price check revealed it to be $14.99. Same store had some copies of QoS listed for $14.99 and other copies for $19.99.
Before heading to BBV, I stopped by Gamestop and picked up a copy of Wheelman (PS3), Race Pro (360), Monster Jam (360) with my store credit. Traded those games and the copy of Crainum Kabooki (Wii) I had picked up a few days ago at BBV and got $68 credit on a gift card after spending about $80 in GS credit.

Went to quite a few BBV throughout Orange County, CA and picked up:

Folklore (PS3)
Bioshock (PS3) x2
Qos (360)
Burnout Paradise (360)
Orange Box (360)
GTA IV (360)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (360)

Only a few stores actually had a decent collection. Saw plenty of QoS overall and quite a bunch of GTA IV both for 360 and PS3 at one store after not seeing a single copy at any others. Was hoping to get Mass Effect and Eternal Sonata for 360 as well, but couldn't find them. Might head out to a few other stores tomorrow to see if they have those or pick up another game or two for the GS FN4 trade in deal.

Just a note, of all the stores I went to, only about half of them actually advertised the sale. Also, some of the stores hadn't updated their prices yet, so if you see a game listed here for a specific price, and its different in store, ask for a price check.
which stores/cities around OC did you check out and which still have a decent collection? thanks!

I get the feeling Gamestop might remove 007 QoS from their list of games tradeable for FNR4... there's a million of pristine copies floating around BBV.

Wow, my head is spinning from all of this information... I mean, I've taken part in most major flip deals, but there's so much going on! I still have a trade-in pending from Amazon's last deal. Now I'm not sure if I should just apply those games towards the new deal, or get a few more copies of FNR4. I could just build up my collection with cheap used games. It's harder now with GR/BBV cutting their trade in prices. Man, this is brutal!

If the chips continue to fall the way they have recently, its going to be a very lucrative couple of weeks coming up.

I couldn't for the life me understand how you guys were flipping Tenchu for Wii, then it dawned on me. Deal of the week at GS. Perfect.

Edit: PS3 Wheelman is being traded for $25. Is the 360 version also trading at the same amount?

i got williams pinball and sega superstars for roughly 11 bucks total

hopefully the sale will still be on when i get paid on friday

I've been trying to find one at my local BBV, none actually have them in stock. I actually wouldnt mind playing it, not really looking for the FN deal

Oh man, I did not realize the potential of those GS games back to GR... OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT! I have a copy of UFC 2009 I need to return. I can turn that one copy of UFC 2009 into about 3 copies of FNR4.... HOLY SHIT!!
The lady you talked to doesn't determine when the sale starts nor does anyone at any particular store. If your store is a regular, non-franchise store, then the computer is already programmed to do the B1G1. The person who rang up my games today had no idea about the sale, but it still rang up on the register.
Went to 5 stores today, only one had the sign up and one other had a sales associate still clearly setting up for the morning who mentioned it to me when he saw me browsing. Even had one clerk ask me how the hell I knew about it when she didn't. lol.

Also came across copies of Frontines and Army of 2 at the store near my work. Good haul today, sooooo many games in backlog now.

Good god!

Hey guys, a quick question.

I went to a Blockbuster quite a drive away to get couple games that I want. But upon returning home and checking the disc condition, the top (data) side of the disc had some scratch off. I tested the game, seems to work, but not too sure if just because that part of the data was not read when I tested it. So the question is, can I either exchange or return it to the nearby Blockbuster rather than going back to the store where I got it from?

Thanks.

Holy crap, what are you going to do with all this?

Oh, and apparently, I was unbanned from BBV so I quickly traded in a Singstar while I could. Got 2 GTA's, 2 Spidermans Web of shadows and 2 QoS for 2 copies of FN4 for $20. $10 for the Singstar and the $10 bucks I had to pay BBV.

Thanks.
With a receipt, you can swap out a defective used game at any blockbuster for another copy within 30 days of purchase.
Holy crap, what are you going to do with all this?
Some are for my son, some are for other family members, and some are for Gamestop.

I found Banjo and Kazooie Nuts and Bolts for $12.99 and didn't see it in the first post. Sorry if it was posted somewhere, my mind starting going numb reading through these pages.

How did you get 2 copies of Quantum of Solace, 2 copies of Web of Shadows, and 2 copies of GTA for only $20?

QOS is $14.99
Web odf Shadows is $14.99
GTA4 is $14.99

plus your 3 free copies

Thats $45. You said you got $10 for Singstar and paid $10 in cash.

Great. Thanks for the reply.

Although, does the store need to have the game in stock for sale and not for rent in order to do the exchange? Or just as long as they have the game on hand?

I traded in Singstar Vol 1 Bundle for $36 bucks to them right then and there. My total was $45+tax or something like that. I only paid $10+tax for the Singstar, and minus the trade in credit from the total, I paid BBV the extra $10. So in a way, I only really paid $20+tax for everything.

Used game is preferred, rental is up to the manager's discretion, atleast at my store, but mostly they would say yes. If neither are available, or they say no to the rental idea, they will offer you credit/an exchange, which if you want the game I guess you'd have to try elsewhere. Now that we can look up other stores stocks, that's not really a problem as long as someone close to you has it.
which stores/cities around OC did you check out and which still have a decent collection? thanks!
I went to the following ones:
-Santa Ana: Bristol & MacArthur, 17th & Tustin
-Fountain Valley: Brookhurst & Edinger
-Huntington Beach: Magnolia & Atlanta
-Costa Mesa: Harbor & Adams, 17th & Irvine
-Irvine: Alton & Jeffery, Alton & Culver
-Tustin: Jamboree & Irvine
-Garden Grove: Harbor & Garden Grove

The one on Harbor & Adams had a pretty good selection; can't remember what they had there exactly, but it was one of the only stores I saw GTA IV at and they had plenty of copies for both 360 and PS3. The ones on Magnolia & Atlanta (prices weren't updated, so I had to ask for a price check) and Harbor & Garden Grove also had reasonable collections. I think the ones on Brookhurst & Edinger and Bristol & MacArthur also had a decent collection, but I can't really remember too well.

I nabbed Okami with a free The World Ends With You and then a copy of Fire Emblem, with another copy of Fire Emblem for free.

My Shorewood location had a great selection all with good condition cases and manuals. I then went to Joliet to pick my gf up from work and I checked the BB there and of course like always it was complete garbage with nearly nothing there in the first place and the ones that were there had no manuals or the original cases.

Well, quite a long day... I went out on 3 separate trips and much to my own shock (as I just counted them up now) I went to 9 stores!

There are some definite commons and some not-so-commons. I think I saw Quantum of Solace for 360 at every single store, along with some of the crappier things like Ironman, etc... Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party (DS) was at almost every store. Yet I found TWEWY, My Sims Kingdom, GTA IV (for either system), and Bioshock for PS3 at only one store each. Also, I only saw Ninja Town at 2 stores. After finding Mirror's Edge at my local store I assumed it would be everywhere since they get much less rental stock. It was a bit of a surprise that that was the only place I saw it. And there was plenty of stuff I didn't see at all across 9 stores: Fire Emblem DS being the notable one.

At many of these stores I was the first/only person to go through the game stock. 2 or 3 didn't have any indication of the sale. It is kind of odd because at some places they scanned a bar code and at others I don't think they did - got the sale at all those places though.

But this leads me to the strange part that maybe some of the BBV employees here can help me with. One store was just starting a going out of business sale (this is definitely a corporate store too - they are just closing it I guess). They had all their games at 20% off. They insisted that they are not participating in the B1G1 sale because of this. Now, of course, that is just plain stupid because they are charging more to clearance stuff out than all the regular stores are charging. I was trying to get them to ring up a pair for me to see what happened but they insisted it wouldn't work and wouldn't do it for me. I probably should have just said I'd buy them anyway (and then say I forgot my cash or something if they didn't come up cheap). But damn, it would be nice to get 20% off and then B1G1 which I may have missed out on by not pushing it. But then again, maybe they disable the regular promos in these stores? Anyone know? Of course this store, despite being tiny, had some of the best stuff (TWEWY and Ninja Town for one). I ended up finding another Ninja Town at my very last stop of the day (store #9) but never did find another TWEWY.

In any case, I got a lot of stuff to keep or give to people, a set to trade in to Amazon for the 50% off coupon, and some miscellaneous stuff that might end up going to GS.

My haul (all $14.99 unless noted);
:360:
Spiderman Web of Shadows (to GS for FNR4)
Ninja Gaiden II (keep or gift, dunno)
007 Quantum of Solace x 2 (one to GS for FNR4, one to Amazon)
Universe at War ($6.99) x 2 (one to keep, one for ??)

:ps3:
Bioshock (to keep - traded my never-played 360 copy to GS for the FNR4 deal)
Mirror's Edge (to keep)
GTA IV x 2 (not sure but I couldn't pass them up - only saw at one store)
Monster Madness ($9.99) (probably to keep)
DMC 4 ($9.99) (not sure - I got one for $14.99 at the previous B1G1, just got this to pair up purchases)

:wii:
We Ski (to keep)
My Sims Kingdom (definite keeper - my daughter wanted this!)
Lego Batman (to Amazon)
Worms A Space Oddity (hell yeah to keep - been waiting for this to drop for like a year)
de Blob x 2 (already beat it, so these are for Amazon - I rushed home to lock in the price and then it dropped $2 a few hours later ;))
Mario & Sonic Olympics x 2 (wanted one to keep but both are in kind of crappy condition, so probably to GS)
Okami x 2 ($9.99) (one to keep, one to Amazon)
Samba de Amigo ($6.99) (either as filler on a GS trade-on or as a gift to someone)

:ds:
Ninja Town (definite keeper that I was on the hunt for and found at the ninth and final store!)
Lego Indy (for my son)
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party ($9.99) (for my son)
Spiderman Web of Shadows ($9.99) (keep or use as trade filler at GS)
Viva Pinata (already have it, this one is for a gift)

... and I think that's about it. I passed up lots of other stuff, too, like Lock's Quest (excellent game that I already played - hard to pass up minty copies for just $5 though), Lego Batman for DS (no manual), Dragon Quest Swords (scratched up), My Sims Party (meh - didn't need it), and lots of other stuff I can't remember now ;). I'm sure there were some good flips in there but besides the FNR4-specific games and a few things that were good for the Amazon deal I wasn't really looking too much for that stuff as I only had a limited amount of credit (from a few Race Pros, NFSU, Wheelman, etc). I just grabbed a few things when trying to make pairs of same-priced games that I could use for a 6-game trade at GS (to get the full 40% bonus).

I picked up quite a bit of trade in fodder with this deal, although my best score for a keeper was the manager who couldn't find the Quantum of Solace DS cart, and said 'Hey, I got the ps3 version.. you want that for your freebie with the 9.99 TWEWY?'

am I the only one who picked up Ninja Gaiden Sigma (ps3) for 14.99 or must of been a misstag for the the 360 Ninja Gaiden 2?

Correct Price. I saw one, but left it since I had nothing to pair it with.

I saw that at one store as well but decided to pass it up. Since I later got Ninja Gaiden II I probably should have gotten Sigma, but I kind of bought a lot at that one store as it was.

Pretty slim pickins at the one BBV I went to. For whatever reason, the guys at this one ditch the cases and manuals so nearly all of their games were disc only. I managed to get Mercs 2(which was actually complete!) and a disc-only Bioshock for PS3. I was hoping I could've picked up 2 more games so I wouldn't have had to pair a $10 and $15 game like I did, but like I said there was not a very good selection at this one. Still can't complain though.

Later this weekend I will check out my "secret" BBV, I seem to be the only person that buys games there so I consider it my secret store. Hopefully I can secure a copy of GTAIV for my friend.

I found a QoS(360), SM:WoS(360), GTAIV(PS3) and a Folklore at the Poplar St. location in Greentree, PA and that pretty much cleaned out there $14.99 titles that were available.

Found the "videogame concept store", never went there before.
Damn, I didn't buy everything they had, but I could have made a ton of FNR4 combos from that store alone.

It was ridiculous how much game stock they had for a Blockbuster.

Wow, one of you guys hit up my local BBV. I'm pretty sure I'm all alone where I am aside from the occassional post about someone passing through my town for work. Between lunch and 6:00 last night, someone grabbed the Mirror's Edge PS3, Mercs 2 PS3, Okami, and a few others. Everything is fair game, but I still felt violated. lol

My Blockbuster on Route 40 near Catonsville, MD had pretty slim pickings. Also most of the prices on the used games were much higher then the prices quoted here.
The only ones I saw for the 14.99 under deal were 360 GTA4, 360 Mecs 2 and Wii Bully with no case. Most of the other games mentioned in this thread were still 19.99 to 29.99.

I picked up Timeshift and Turok @ $9.99 each so with the B1G1 free only paid $10 for both. This was in Bronx, NY. Good deal, also Timeshift is very underrated game.
Went to 6 BBVs, 3 Targets, and 1 GS.

Bought:

Bioshock - ps3
Folklore - ps3
GTA - ps3
and traded these in for FNR4

For every1 thinking of doing the FNR4 deal, I can give you an optimistic rundown of what I saw so far. Out of 6 stores, 4 had multiple copies of GTA (2 to 5 copies), 5 had 1 copy each of bioshock - ps3, 3 stores had 1 copy each of folklore, all 6 stores had 007, and I didn't see any copies of MX vs ATV.

I also bought
Mario + sonic
Samba de amigo
Army of 2
We Ski
Quantum of Solace
Mercenaries 2
Frontlines

Then I went to GS and bought Tenchu Shadow assassins and Race Pro to flip cause I'm nearly out of credit.
I really feel terrible about having ruined the sale for you and everyone else. And by "everyone" I mean CAGs who wanted to keep the sale a secret from other CAGs. Well, actually, just the CAGs who wanted to keep the sale a secret from other CAGs who couldn't find more then 10 games to buy. If only I hadn't let the hoarders know about it a week in advance. Why haven't I been banned?

Hey - you started it. :)

I hit about 6-8 BBV's yesterday in the greater Phoenix area and got a few games, but had to hunt to find a total of 12 games to buy between those locations.

Every store seemed to have a plethora of 007: QoS (360), you could walk out with 4-8 copies at nearly every store.

Every store that I tried to get Spiderman WOS (360) they couldn't find the game and then they said it was put on the floor by mistake. This seriously happened at 4+ stores.

One "smart" store decided to put all of the games in a bin sitting in direct sunlight of our 110 degree weather outside. They obviously care about their customers, no doubt selling heat/sun damaged materials.

I'm going to swing by a few more stores today to see what I can get, but it's been a decent haul.

What did you think about it? I was there yesterday afternoon. I really was impressed with their stock too.

This has probably already been pointed out, but it at the BBVs near me, it looks like leftover new games from the previous clearance sale were converted to used games and now are part of this sale. Maybe it's only a couple stores, but I've seen plenty of Pokemon Mystery Dungeons and other familiar titles. I hadn't been in a BBV since that sale ended. Kinda wish I didn't blow all my credit back then.

Other than the fact that it had a ton of games, and game stations, it wasn't much different than a regular BBV.
I just like that visiting that 1 store felt like going to 3-4 regular stores to get stuff. :)

It's about 10-12 mins away, but the Colony traffic is a PAIN.

Also, don't buy all my stuff.

BBV gave you $36 for Singstar?!
Where are you located?
Has anyone else had this luck?

I have gone to two different BBV's to trade in:
Singstar Vol. 1 Bundle
Singstar Vol. 2 Bundle

Both said they do not trade in bundles. Both would not trade Singstar Vol. 1 game only. And both said they'd give $12 for Singstar Vol. 2 game only.
These are BBV's in Michigan.

I want the $36!!!!

They'll take either game in game only form, although there may be issue with no barcode being on the game box since it was in a bundle and some employees don't know how to ring it up if there's no barcode. Apparently, a recent change is that the system tells them how many of a game they can take in and your store may have had enough Singstar vol 1 so they wouldn't take any more.

Well, it was really one of the last BBVs on my places to stop so I only picked up a few things from there. I didn't think that colony traffic was bad, but after travelling 635W and 75N out of Dallas... nothing seems bad anymore :/
