Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

My apologies in advance if this is a repeat, or in the wrong area. Short of calling every Blockbuster individually, I've been trying to figure out how to make sure stores are corporate stores, and therefore, have this B1G1 deal. Using the blockbuster.com store locator, it shows the five stores near me (in San Francisco) as all accepting the Total Access membership. My understanding is that all corporate stores accept Total Access, and some undisclosed number of franchise stores do as well. Is my reasoning correct, that all Total Access-stores are corporate? Or is there some other list I can see before schlepping my way to the various stores?
Thanks.
I had bad luck....My BBV had Mercs 2 for PS3 but it was $24.99. So was GH:A PS3. The clerk even checked the prices and still. fuck
Perhaps it was a franchise store?
How would one know if their store is franchise? Is there an indicator online?
I don't think there's any way to know unless you look at your receipt (it's supposed to say Franchise to something) or call your store directly and ask them if they are a franchise store.
BBV gave you $36 for Singstar?!
Where are you located?
Has anyone else had this luck?

I have gone to two different BBV's to trade in:
Singstar Vol. 1 Bundle
Singstar Vol. 2 Bundle

Both said they do not trade in bundles. Both would not trade Singstar Vol. 1 game only. And both said they'd give $12 for Singstar Vol. 2 game only.
These are BBV's in Michigan.

I want the $36!!!!
That is the way it is supposed to be (they don't accept games with accessories). But YMMV as many CAGs have done it recently. I didn't bother trying since it was the manager at my local store who told me of this new policy.

As for the whole franchise thing, it is hard to tell until you go. The only franchise store I've ever been too had a bizarre selection of games for sale and gave different trade-in values (though I was able to get credit on a normal Value card). And the receipt said it was a franchise store. This was all a couple of years ago though. Of course you could call and ask, but if you go in one way you can probably tell right away is to see if they have a sign up behind the counter naming the store manager and district manager. If there is a district manager listed, I'm pretty sure that means it is a corporate store.

that must have been a franchise. which one was it

I checked Blockbuster's online store locator to see what time they opened today, so I would know what time to go... it said they opened at 10 am. So I walked about a mile in ball-sweaty heat (I live in AZ) and arrived at Blockbuster... they were closed! In the front door it said they opened at Noon today! Horseturds!

So after, I went to a Mexican food restaurant close to my house and got a carne asada burrito and a soft drink for $4.49... they're having a special! ...and went home depressed. I didn't enjoy the burrito much, because I was bummed.... I just destroyed the burrito and shoved in my mouth.

I will be going back to Blockbuster in an hour... hopefully they have the crap I want, or I'll get pissed and start shaking babies!

Finally found a store that had the sale marked and ready to go. Had a few decent titles but I'm a budget and there were exactly 0 titles eligible for the FNR4 deal. I ended up getting Burnout Paradise and Soldier of Fortune: Payback on the 360 for $16.xx. Not a bad deal at all! :)

Be careful because if the store opens at noon, it could be a franchise store, meaning it won't have the sale going on. What part of AZ might I ask?

Cool...Picked up a few more games today and found a copy of Bioshock at a local BBV that I'll go pick up in a few hours...woohoo...

Here's what I got today...

Ah ok. I live in Glendale (literally next door neighbors eh? lol!) and the two Blockbusters around me are franchises. I was going to check the one at 83rd and Deer Valley to see if they have the games for the FNR4 trade in deal but I'm lazy haha. I think I'll check some other stores in Phoenix today and tell you what I find. Are you looking for anything in particular? If so, I'll keep an eye out for ya and if I find them, I'll stash them away and let you know. I always like helping out a fellow CAG! :applause:

I can say that these BBV are pretty much cleaned out...

West Hartford, CT, BBV past the West Hartford center
West Hartford, CT, BBV next to WestFarms mall
Bristol, CT, BBV in the Bristol Plaza next to Gamestop
Avon, CT, BBV just past Gamestop
Plainville, CT, BBV in downtown plainville

If anyone in CT is interested there are still games there, but nothing really to flip if you are looking to build up credit. If you are looking for games to add to your collection, than there may be something for you, but the pickings are pretty sparse.

I got the $36 at one in Jersey. BBVs are not supposed to accept Singstar 1 bundles anymore. When I traded my in, the clerk immediately bought it from BBV for $8 even though the store gave me $36 for it, lol. Oh well.

Im going to try to get Okami, Zack & Wiki, Bully and The Godfather. Im leaving to the store right now. I'll post what I get from Blockbuster, if anything.

You didnt happen to get a bioshock slip cover in that?

I keep a lot of manuals/cover art myself if im trading into stores with DBag employees. :)

Speaking of which, I have a spare TWEWY manual if anybody missed one in their personal copy :)

I bought Tenchu Shadow Assassins at GS with my credit there, then stopped at another BBV today and traded it in for $15. I picked up Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party (DS) and Cranium Kabooki (Wii), for $9.99+tax of that credit, both complete. I'm going to trade in Cranium on my way home at another BBV, hopefully for $16 and hopefully without getting banned. :) I traded in two copies elsewhere in the past but that was months ago.

Oh damn that sucks! Well, if it means anything, I haven't seen any of those titles at the 3 stores I went to. Hopefully your store has them!

FYI for those that live near the Blockbuster in Laurel, Maryland: They're pretty much out of Xbox 360 games. I saw 2 copies of Condemned 2, GH: Aerosmtih, Mercs 2, and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

I picked up:

2x GTA IV PS3
Folklore PS3
Bioshock PS3

All for $32.38

I traded in one GTA, Folklore and a game I already had for FNR4. Trying to decide between return FNR4 for store credit or keeping the game.

NOTE: One thing to know is that I asked the guy behind the counter if they would sell me rental copies of GTA and Folklore since they didn't have any in the bin, and he said that would be cool if they hadn't been rented in a while. Sure enough they hadn't so he went ahead and sold them to me. Even put them in PS3 game cases with the instruction books. So be sure to ask if you're striking out.

I just got back from Blockbuster... they are having the sale! But... it was crap... if you're getting Wii games. Nothing that I wanted was there, all they had was Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the Wii. I got the last copy of Nights for $6.99 and for my free game I got Guitar Hero: Aerosmith... pretty much had to because there wasn't much else. I also got some DVD's... The Dark Knight, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Wrestler. All 3 were $14.99 each, but because of the DVD sale... I got all 3 for $20 :). Im happy I got some movies, but I wish they had more games.

That's a new one. Heck I have a BBV not sell me a used copy that was in the binder to sell because they didn't have the display box out.

What are some pretty good flips out there? I know De Blob wii and 007 QOS (360)seem pretty good are there any other that stick out that I might be overlooking? I pretty much know the obvious ones but are there any others that folks are stumbling upon?

Blockbuster in scottsdale at chapparal had a ton of 360 wii and ps3
for ps3 they had wall-e fallout 3 GH:WT sega superstars tennis a bunch of DMC 4 to name a few
the employee didnt even know about the sale until I told him about the big buy 1 get 1 free sign outside with all the games
i got
9.99 Devil May Cry 4 Ps3
9.99 Monster Madness Ps3

For 10 bucks it was a sweet deal. Gonna see what else i can score
Cue the morality police.

Picked up QoS and GTA 4 for 360. Is the Bourne game worth 7.50?

Without a doubt it is worth that. I wouldn't have been upset paying $30 for it.
What's Blockbuster's return policy? Would I be able to return a PS3 controller without a receipt?
It should be, no receipt, hit the road. Unless you bought it recently, so a person might remember you or they could find it in the non member buying history(when someone just walks up with a couple of items for sale, but not to rent, this is what usually is used). If you bought it on your own account, as long as it was within a few months, you should be able to go back to that specific store and have them look it up as well.

But 99% of the time, if someone does not have a receipt, I can't do anything for them.

Well, I hit up 4 different blockbusters today in San Antonio. Basically, all the games listed in here were above the 14.99 price and anything below that sucked. I mean, NBA 2k7 for 14.99? What the hell. Also, no signs of the B1G1 sale, only saw B2G1.

Haven't bothered to read this whole thread, but can someone further explain the franchise/corporate thing? Is there a good chance I was just hitting up a bunch of franchise Blockbusters?

Could be they were franchise stores. Or it could just be that they didn't retag things and forgot to put up the B1G1 signage. I went to a few stores yesterday that didn't have the signage up, but for the most part things were correctly tagged (though I found a few $14.99 things still marked $19.99). There haven't been any huge price drops any time recently so chances are things will be correctly tagged even if they are slow. That indicates to me your stores were probably franchises. Like I said a few posts back (last page), look at the sign above checkout - if it says the name of a store manager and district manager then it is most likely a corporate store. If that isn't there, then maybe it is a franchise. Just ask though.

if you got it there it should be linked to your account even without the recpet

Total bust at all 3 of my GameRush stores. The only thing worth trading in that was available was 007. I don't think GameStop would take 3 copies of the same gaem ;)

I grabbed...

wall-e - 360 - 14.99
fight night round 3 - 360 - 14.99

the club - 260 - 9.99
fracture - 360 - 9.99

harry potter and the order - 360 - 9.99
table tennis - 360 - 6.99

All around a nice haul.

total bust in Long Beach and Huntington beach, eventually ran in to a guy with a plastic bin attached to a dolly, entering the last blockbuster, closing his trunk I spied 3 other bins full of games purchased earlier that day, I'd seen hoarding before but this a-hole took it to a new level. for christ's sake I just wanted to pick up a ninja gaiden..oh well. Good times

Went to several other BBs and picked up

#1
:360: Spiderman Web of Shadows X2
:360: DMC 4
:ps3: Lego Batman
:ds: TWEYY
:wii:Okami

#2
:360: SPiderman Web of Shadows
:360: QOS
:ds: Ninjatown
:wii: Okami

I think I'm done, did the flipping I needed to do. There's like 4 more stores I haven't hit yet, but well see. Surprisingly, all of the stores I went to had no Bioshock or plenty of QOS like some have stated.

Well, I went to the store closest to me and to my surprise they actually had some titles but not much. They also had all the games on a table together.

I picked up:
Spiderman: Web of Shadows Xbox 360 (The only copy they had) $14.99
TNA Impact! PS3 $14.99

TNA was the only thing decent I saw outside of Fracture PS3 but I will probably give TNA to my nephew after I play it for a little while. I will be able to hit up a few more stores tomorrow so I hope they have some stuff to trade towards the Fight Night 4 deal since I have Folklore already to go with Web of Shadows.
